Finally smithing
-Day 4 on the mystery island-
Aoi was excited. When she had woken up in the morning, her muscles weren't as sore as the day before. But that wasn't why she was so happy.
What really made her so eager, was the pile of usable copper in her cave.
She was finally ready to smith something.
The first thing she would build was a simple copper knife. Making something out of copper was easier than working with other metals because copper could be formed while being cold.
This told a lot about how durable the product would be, but Aoi couldn't be picky.
She sat down with a piece of metal in hand and started hitting it with a round stone.
Every hit only bend the copper a tiny bit and she had to be gentle to avoid breaking it, so it took Aoi a lot of time to get a vague knife like shape.
But even though the process took this long, Aoi was delighted to to be able to make something.
Using another rock like a whetstone, Aoi did her best to sharpen it.
The end product could only barely pass as a knife. The form was botched up and the copper was bend in weird places.
Nonetheless this was her first creation so nobody could fault her in feeling pride for the copper knife.
Making it had been a lot of fun for Aoi. It only made her more eager to produce the best sword in the world.
She had to start small though. While her knife certainly was exciting to make, Aoi didn't think for a second that the could fend of a tiger or even stronger animals with it.
Which meant that she would make a real sword.
She wouldn't make one out of copper. Instead, Aoi would use bronze because of its higher durability.
To make bronze, she would need to mix copper and tin. Aoi already had a bit of tin in her cave from her diving trips.
Luckily she didn't need much of it. Bronze is made out of way more copper than tin. Which meant she could make enough bronze for her sword with the materials she already had.
The most popular way in her old world to work with bronze was casting.
The method was done by using a clay mold, which had an empty spot in the form of a sword in the middle.
She would then make her sword by pouring molten bronze into that cast.
The first thing Aoi needed was a model for her sword. Aoi decided to make a simple straight sword with two edges. She simply carved one out of wood.
To make the cast, Aoi took her newly made knife and cut some wood to use as a framework. She used some nails she found to connect them.
When Aoi made two identical boxes she filled them up with clay. She then put her wooden sword between the boxes and pressed them together.
With everything done she was basically ready to cast the sword.
Aoi put the copper and tin into a bowl like stone. She then put the bowl in her heater to smelt the metals.
When everything was hot enough, Aoi had a bowl of molten bronze.
She then carefully poured the bronze into her mold.
After Aoi finished, she noticed that the sun had already gone down a bit.
She was already exhausted, so she ended her day and went to sleep.
-Day 5 on the mystery Island-
Aoi woke up fully refreshed. The first thing she did was go to her cast and open it.
Inside was the finished bronze sword. It still wasn't really finished though. She first had to fix the swords form by breaking off a few pieces.
After that was done, the sword already looked a lot better. The last thing that needed to be done was to sharpen it.
Aoi knew how long it took to sharpen a sword, but she would have to put a lot of work in to make the best sword. It took her the rest of the day. At least her sword was sharp now.
And with her sword complete Aoi felt a lot saver. Even if the tiger attacked her again she was confident she could defeat it.
Not only that, she also had made her first sword. Aoi was incredibly happy to have taken her fist big step.
With such thoughts Aoi went to bed.
-Day 6 on the mystery Island-
Aoi started her day feeling energized. She had made her first sword so she could now spend a bit of time experimenting and resting.
She had a lot of things she wanted to make.
The first thing Aoi did, was to make some bowls out of the rest of the copper. The bowls would help her with her daily life. They also were a necessity for the process of making a steel sword.
After finishing the last of her bowls, Aoi did another trip to the coast.
She already had most things she needed, but Aoi had come to like diving down and finding all kinds of treasures.
As Aoi was diving underwater, she suddenly felt a presence in the shipwreck next to her. To investigate the feeling, Aoi swam into the wreck.
She continued to swim in the direction of the presence until coming to a stop right before the object that had caught her attention.
A rusty hammer. It looked ordinary, but Aoi wasn't able to see through the rust, so she couldn't tell what it was made out of.
Either way, it was leagues better than the stone Aoi had used to make her knife.
Aoi of course took the hammer to the surface with her.
After going back to her cave, Aoi rested.
She had accomplished her goals for the day so the next thing she would focus on was her next step in making the best sword.
Aoi already made a sword out of bronze so the next step would be iron.
If she had iron, she could also start to practice forming hot metal. Iron swords were also a lot better than her bronze one.
Naturally Aoi wanted to make an iron sword as fast as possible.
She first had to sleep though. It was already dark outside.

Im sorry that the chapter took me this long. I hope had fun reading at least.
If you have anything you don't like please tell me. Especially if I get any facts wrong.
I will try to get the next chapter in three days this time, but don't put your hopes in me.
Until next time.
