Simon's POV
When I finally came back inside, Chloe was as pale as a ghost.
"I don't know if you should do this," I said to them. "Maybe we take her to a hospital and have them give her blood bags instead of the werewolf gene."
"She could die," Derek said.
"She is right now," I pointed out, rather harshly. "Do you want to hear what Dad just told me?"
Derek raised an eyebrow.
"Dad said its near impossible to get rid of all the vampire venom even if you do this. So werewolf or not, she'll forever have a taste for blood."
"So?" Matt asked. "She won't be a vampire, what does it matter if she takes her meat a little more raw than before?"
I felt like I was talking to walls, they were so concerned with her not turning into a vampire, that they were turning her into a werewolf-vampire.
"Chloe can handle it," Derek replied.
She slumped down in her chair a little.
"Chloe?!" Derek's attention was back on her not me.
"You're killing her," I shouted.
They both ignored me.
"Are you ready Derek?" Matt asked.
Derek's eyes were full of regret but he nodded.
The sound of blood falling into the bucket slowed down to a trickle.
"Almost there," Matt said.
The blood stopped and started dripping occasionally. Matt shouted at Derek to hurry. Derek bit into her neck, the closest he could get to her heart. Matt undid the chains. Chloe wasn't responsive. Derek bit her neck again.
"Its not working," he started to panic.
"Give it time," Matt said. "Just keep going."
They pulled Chloe down from the chair and onto the floor. She looked as dead and dead could be. My heart sank.
"Come on," Derek cried.
He bit again and shook her, hand on her chest for any sign of life. A breath, a heart beat, anything.
Very few times in my life have I seen Derek cry. But this was one of them.
"Come on Chloe. Come back to me. You can't leave me. You just can't."
The wounds on her arms started to fade.
"Derek," I pointed them out.
Derek's cries of pain turned to cries of relief. He kissed her, something he hadn't been able to do in a long time.
"Chloe," he whispered. "Wake up."
The wounds on her arm and the bites on her neck had turned to scars.
"She's not going to wake up just like that," Matt said. "She lost nearly all her blood."
Derek carefully picked her up off of the ground.
"We should go back into the house."
Matt wanted to keep a close eye on her but he knew Derek was never going to let her out of his sight. He nodded agreeing that we should head back inside and said he was going to stay behind and clean up the mess.
As we walked back, Derek held her so close I thought he was going to break her bones.
"Careful," I said to him.
Derek didn't respond and it was too dark to see whatever expression he gave me.
Nate was still outside burning everything, it looked like everyone else besides Tess had gone to bed. Tess' room was one of the few places not destroyed. Derek laid Chloe down in her bed and sat beside her. I sat down at the foot of the bed and Tess sat in her desk chair. None of us were going to sleep tonight.
Or so I thought, I jumped as I woke up, half leaning against the wall. Tess and Derek were out cold too from pure emotional exhaustion. I had no idea what time it was or how long we had been out.
I looked over at Chloe, the color had returned to her skin. It seemed like she was going to be fine. My hand brushed her ankle as I readjusted myself on the bed.
"no," came from Chloe's mouth, barely barely audible.
"Chloe?" I kept my voice down.
"Don't touch...heart beat..." she said.
Her eyes were still closed though, I don't think she was consciously talking. It seemed more of a talking in your sleep type of response.
