Simon's POV
I went upstairs to see how it was going between Tori and Liz. I knocked gently on the door.
"Tori," I said, so she could hear who was knocking.
She shuffled across the room and came and unlocked the door. Tori ushered me in quickly before shutting and locking the door behind me.
Instinctively I looked around for Liz before remembering that I couldn't see her.
"Hi Liz," I said to no place in particular.
A piece of paper on Tori's bed moved. I thought it was from Tori sitting back down until the pencil was lifted from the bed and wrote 'hi' on the paper.
I laughed kind of nervous, "Sorry, I'm just not used to communicating with ghosts. This is weird to me."
'Its nice to be able to talk to people again,' was written on the paper.
I nodded, "I bet its gets lonely not being able to communicate."
Tori cleared her throat, "Not to interrupt but what did you come here for?"
"I came to see if you two talked about it yet," I said.
Tori nodded, "We did and Liz says she will try to help as best as she can."
The word 'grimoire' was circled on the paper. Which is what a witch's spell book is called.
"Liz is going to try to find a witch's grimoire that has the information/spell that you need?"
Tori nodded, "She can't really ask them and she can't sit around waiting for someone to mention it. So snooping through grimoires might be our best bet." Tori tapped her chin. "Speaking of which, I should start keeping my own grimoire of all the magic I'm learning."
I rolled my eyes, "Whats the point in that if you wanted out? Just a few weeks or so ago you were determined to leave this life behind."
Tori shrugged, "Life is too boring without this stuff."
She looked down at whatever Liz wrote to her.
"I would miss you too."
"Not that I can see Liz or anything but you two seem to be thinking this will be easier than it sounds. I think you're wrong. Liz might have to go through hundreds of witch books. Maybe thousands. Who knows if a spell like this is even out there? You're kind of acting like Liz will be back with the answer tomorrow, when it could be months. Do either of you even know where she should start looking?"
The look on Tori's face showed that I was right, they were hoping that this would be a cake walk. And I just rained all over their parade.
Chloe's POV
I could not go back inside afterwards. I cried. Because of the death of the animal and because of how I felt. My mind felt heavy with guilt. But my body felt exhilarated. I felt stronger and more in control. Which scared me and made me feel even more guilty. I climbed up onto the roof of Tess' house and sat there for I don't know how long. Staring blankly out at nothing like when I saw the replaying scene at the bus stop when Derek was still trying to change. Except the replaying scene this time was the death of the animal and the way it made me feel good inside. I disgusted myself. I wanted to throw up but forced myself not to, knowing that if I did; I would have to find another animal to replenish what I vomited.
It felt like a horrific blink of an eye before I saw the sun peaking over the horizon. I knew that the boys would freak out as soon as they noticed I was gone. I quickly got down and put on a brave face. But before I made it back inside I ran into Matt with his morning coffee and newspaper.
"So you did it, huh?" He said, looking out at the yard.
"Did what?" I tried to ask innocently.
Matt took a sip and looked at me.
"Gave in."
"How'd you know?" I looked down at my feet, wet from the dewy grass.
"You don't become the worlds best vampire killer by letting things slip," Matt said. "I was awake when you slipped out back. I saw the whole thing."
My heart sank.
"Don't tell anyone."
Matt shook his head and sipped his coffee again, "Its not my place to tell. But you should get washed up before anyone else sees you."
I looked down to see what he meant. My hands and chin were covered in dried blood.
"Oh." I said.
"Yeah, that also gave you away. Now run along to the shower before anyone else wakes up. And I want to have a serious talk with you later."
"Yes sir," I said sadly. I turned and went to the door. Before stepping inside, I asked a question. "If you really are Batman and that Arizona nest is gone, why are you still here?"
"Because of you," Matt answered.
I looked at him confused.
"You're a tribrid not even a hybrid. No other being in the world is three species. I can't walk away from that. Plus," he added. "I really care about you Chloe. I want to see this through with you. I need to know that you're alright before I go."
And with that I walked inside and to the shower quickly.
