Chapter 1
"Kill the Spare!"
"Harry quickly jolted awake, panting and covered in sweat. He has been having the same dream since the night it happened, the night that Voldemort and Wormtail killed Cedric. Harry swore that if he closed his eyes, he could still see the bright green light that ended up being the death of Cedric. They held a service for Cedric on the second last day of term, Harry remembered looking around the hall at all the faces with sullen looks. Then there was Cho, she had been crying nonstop and was even worse at the service, He couldn't blame her but he kept his distance anyway, hoping to not screw up as he did at the graveyard, the screw-up that caused Cedric's death.
He shook his head to try and clear his thoughts and looked over to his table. There was a stack of letters that had been delivered by Hedwig from his friends but they remained unopened. He didn't want to read them right now anyway, he knew that Hermione would be trying to get him to open up and try to get him to write to her with his feelings but he didn't want to. Ron on the other hand would dance around the subject, instead of saying what he felt.
With a sigh, Harry got out of bed and looked out the window. It was still dark out and he wondered if he could sneak down to the kitchen for something to eat without the Dursleys noticing. He hadn't eaten a lot since he arrived back at Privet Drive a week ago. He didn't usually have the appetite and it didn't help that all the Dursleys fed him was stale bread and some water. Still, at least it was something. He knew that Mrs. Weasley was going to make a fuss about how skinny he looked when he sees them later in the summer at the Burrow. This brought a small smile to his face, the Weasleys were always so welcoming to him, he loved spending time at their house and he couldn't wait to see them again.
Deciding against sneaking down for some food, he walked over to Hedwig's cage and noticed she wasn't there. Harry looked at her cage in confusion, wondering where his loyal companion had gone off to. He was brought out of his thoughts at a gentle tapping on the window, he turned and saw Hedwig standing on his window ledge, staring at him with a letter hanging from her beak. He walked over and opened the window, allowing him to retrieve the letter from her beak. He scratched her head a little before giving her a bowl of water. He looked at the neat scrawl on the letter expecting it to be either Ron or Hermione but the handwriting was different. Being far too curious for his own good, he opened the envelope and started to read.
"Dear Harry, I know you are probably shocked that I am writing to you but I wanted to see how you are doing. I know it was a tough year for you and I am sorry that you had to go through that. When are you going to get a normal year at Hogwarts?"
Harry stopped reading, he laughed slightly at that last part and continued.
"I know we hardly talk when we are at school or when you are at the Burrow but that doesn't matter to me... well it does matter but the point is, I want to you to know that no matter what you are not alone in this Harry. I know the Daily Prophet is slandering you and Professor Dumbledore for saying Tom has returned, Ignore them they are wrong. I believe you, Ron believes you, my whole family believes you. I know there are dark days ahead but know that I will try and help you in any way I can if you will let me. I know you are not one for talking about how you feel but sometimes it just depends on who you talk to. If you find the right person, then talking gets easier and goes a long way in helping. My Mum and Dad are trying to get Professor Dumbledore to allow you to come to the Burrow early this year, hopefully in time for your birthday. Please be safe Harry, be strong, and don't give up."
Love
Ginny
Harry stared at the letter, he reread it a couple of times, he couldn't believe that Ginny was the one that wrote to him, gone was the girl who got her elbows stuck in a butter dish and someone who used to run away blushing at the sight of him. She has been replaced by a very insightful young woman, one who knew how to get into Harry's head without annoying him.
Making his decision he pulled out some parchment and started writing. After he was done, he placed the letter in Hedwig's beak and told her who it was for. He watched as his loyal companion flew out into the night sky, heading for Devon.
Ginny slowly awoke to the smell of a delicious breakfast coming from downstairs. She groaned as she heard her mum knocking on her door.
"Ginny, you have a letter, it's from Harry." came the voice of her mother
Ginny quickly sat up and got out of bed, she walked to the door and opened it to see her Mum standing there.
"Where is the letter?" Ginny asked her mother.
"It's on the kitchen table, breakfast is ready, you should go down and get some before Ron wakes up, you know how much he eats." Mrs. Weasley rolled her eyes at the last part and walked up another flight of stairs to wake Ron up.
Ginny walked down to the kitchen and saw the letter on the table, she sat down and started reading it.
"Dear Ginny,
Thank you for your letter, it came as a surprise really. I wanted to say thank you for what you said, I think you are right in questioning when I will have a normal year at Hogwarts. Ron and Hermione have sent me letters but I haven't opened them yet, I am dreading it if I am being honest. I just know Hermione is going to give me a lecture about keeping my emotions bottled up and stuff. Anyway, talking about things is still hard for me but I think you also have a good point, I promise that when I am ready I will try and talk to someone about the mess in my life. I really can't wait to come to the Burrow either, I hope your Mum and Dad can get me out earlier. I have barely seen the Dursleys since I have been home, they tend to avoid me at all costs. I hope this year you and I can hang out more, I could always use more friends that's for sure. I hope I will see you at the Burrow by my Birthday if not I will see you at the normal time. Thanks again for the letter Gin."
Harry
Ginny stared at the letter with a smile and a slight blush creeping up her cheeks, she was brought from her thoughts when Ron entered the kitchen.
"What are you all happy about at this time in the morning?" Ron grumbled still half asleep
"Oh nothing," Said a with a bigger smile. She hoped she and Harry would be good friends this year.
