Asami P.O.V
I never thought that I'd see her face again. But know that her face is on the screen of my t.v, I don't know what to think. I'm sure finding her on social media will be easy, but I don't want her to think that I'm some creepy stalker.
As I watch her interview, I notice that her smile is the same as when we were children; bright and full of curiosity. She answers her questions with a mystery to let the audience wonder who the other teammates are. In all honesty, I wonder who is on the team.
I open my phone and press the Instagram icon. If I'm able to find Korra on any platform, it would most likely be Instagram. I search 'Korra Andrews,' and to my surprise, she's the first person you're able to click on after searching for her name. Her username is also 'the_avatar,' which makes sense since it's her nickname.
I scroll through her feed to see how often she posts. From the looks of it, she posts every three to four days. That's pretty reasonable.
I watch through the rest of her interview, since it is live, before following her on her Instagram. It's when she'll most likely be looking at her phone. If I'm lucky, I might even get her to follow me back.
I read her bio:
'Korra 'The Avatar' Andrews
Rookie Soccer Player
Thank you so much for the support!'
Korra has always been super grateful for anything that comes her way' or at least she was when we were younger. I press the follow button on her page before closing out of the app. I don't need to stress about whether she'll follow me back or not. Sure, I miss her, but that doesn't mean she remembers me. I hope she does, but sometimes friends forget about past relationships that they've had.
I turn on Netflix, deciding to watch Riverdale. It's not my favourite show, but I'm bored out of my mind so it won't hurt me. I watched two episodes of the show before checking my phone. That's when I saw it.
'the_avatar has followed you.'
I also saw that there was a message in my direct messages. I clicked it and saw that it was from Korra. Never in a million years would I have thought that she'd reach out to me.
Korra said, "It's good to see you following your dreams. You talked about becoming a model every day growing up." She remembered. I had no clue as to what to say to her. I've never been one to talk to old friends, mostly because I'm too scared. So I decided to say, "I'm glad to see you doing the same."
I'm still not over how calm I was while messaging her. When messaging people, I'm usually a nervous wreck. Today it just felt as if I was writing to someone who I talked to every day. It was nice.
After messaging her, I decided to go to bed since it was late. I have a shoot tomorrow, and I don't plan on being exhausted while I'm there.
When I wake up, I immediately reach for my phone. I know that it's a bad habit to get into, but I've been doing it for years, so it's alright. I check where I'm supposed to be for the shoot. It looks like a cute little park not too far from my apartment. I also have to unpack today. I've only been here a couple of days and have only unpacked two boxes.
After finally getting out of my bed, I put on my favourite white pants, a pink corset top and my pink checkered vans. I also grab a pair of white-rimmed sunglasses. I leave my hair down because I don't feel like playing with it since they'll most likely do it when I get to the set.
After getting dressed, I grab a granola bar from the cupboards before heading out.
"Hey," I hear as I'm locking my door. It's Bolin.
"Hey, Bolin!"
"How was your first night in the apartment?" he asked me. I'm glad he did because I can see us becoming close friends.
"It's been alright, but it's going to be super expensive to live here. Do you by any chance know anyone who is looking for a roommate?"
"I do. My brother's ex-girlfriend has been looking for one. She also just moved here and is looking for a place near the group."
"The group?" I asked Bolin, not knowing what he was saying.
"Oh. The group is just me, Mako, who's my brother, Opal, and Kuvira. She wanted to be near people she's familiar with but rented an apartment in a different part of the city because you got the last apartment in this building."
"I'd be more than happy to share my apartment with her. It's not every day an opportunity like this comes to you."
"Exactly; She'll be thrilled to hear this news. What time are you back?" He asked.
"Well, it's ten-thirty now, and a shoot usually takes around two to three hours. Maybe two or three. It all depends if I get more groceries or if they keep me longer."
"Understandable. Here's my number so that you can text when your shoot is over. Well, I shouldn't keep you any longer. You'll be late. See you later, Asami."
"See you later, Bolin. Thanks for the number!"
After saying goodbye to Bolin, I head to the elevator so that I'd be able to catch a taxi to the park where my shoot was going to be. After exiting the building, it only took a couple of minutes before I could hail a cab. The ride was quick, only about fifteen minutes to the location I provided to the driver.
As I arrived, I noticed that no one was at the park. No workers. No management. No one. I found it weird. So I decided to phone the modelling agency that I signed was to.
"Hey! I'm phoning to see why no one is at the location that I booked today. The photoshoot was supposed to be in a half-hour, but no one has shown up."
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. Today has been busy for the whole team, and we're unable to be everywhere at once. I hope that you understand."
"I understand, but I'm still confused."
"That's alright. I'll speak with the manager to see if he could reschedule your appointment."
"Thank you so much. Have a nice day."
"You as well," and with that, the lady on the other line hung up.
She never called back.
I ordered an Uber so that I'd be able to get home without breaking a sweat. My apartment is a fifteen-minute drive away, which could mean it would take hours to walk there.
Once spotting my Uber, I got in and told the driver my address. I texted Bolin, letting him know that I'd be home in about ten minutes.
Sure thing, Asami. Korra is already here, so you'll be able to meet her the moment you get back. -Bolin
Korra? Could he be talking about Korra Andrews?
The rest of the ride to my apartment went by quickly. There wasn't much traffic since everyone is either at home, school, or work. The craziest thing about living in a big city is always the amount of traffic.
I opened my apartment door, and before I could even take a step inside, I hear Bolin walking towards me. I swear, it's like he's stalking his door to see if I've arrived home. That could be the case, or he could've heard me unlock my door. That would probably be the reason.
"Hey, Bolin. Let me shower and get dressed. I'll head to your apartment after." I said before he got too close, "I was warm outside today, and I started sweating from just standing in one spot."
"Alrighty. Knock before entering so I know that you've come over."
"Okie Dokie. See you in a bit." I waved to Bolin before walking into my apartment. He such a nice guy, but the number of times I see him in a day has gotten annoying, and I've only known him for two days.
I quickly shower so that I'm able to get to his place at a decent time. I need to know if it's Korra, my Korra. But there are lots of other Korra's in the world. It would be great if it were her; We'd be able to become friends again. It would be a dream come true.
I decided to put on my favourite pair of skinny jeans, a fun oversized t-shirt, and a pair of black-and-white checkered Vans. I decided to put my hair in a ponytail; the outfit didn't look complete without my hair up. It looked more professional. That's not exactly what I wanted, but I like how it looks, so I'll keep it this way.
I head to Bolin's apartment, knocking twice before he opens the door. "Hey, Asami. Glad you finally showed up." He had the biggest smile on his face, which in my opinion, is the most contagious smile I've ever seen. I couldn't help but smile right back at him.
His apartment is beautiful. His apartment has lots of different colours. Red, blue, yellow. If you were to name a colour, he'd have it somewhere in his apartment. But if I were to live here every day, I'm sure I'd have a headache.
"Korra," Bolin called into the abyss of his apartment.
"Coming," she replied. That's when I saw her. The same Korra that I had messaged the night before. Standing right in front of me. "Asami?"
"Hey," I replied, "long time, no see." I smiled at her to show her that I wasn't in anyways nervous. Of course, I was, but I didn't want to show her that. "How have you been?"
"I've been busy with soccer and school. How's that modelling career of yours?"
"Chaotic. I had a shoot today that got cancelled-"
"Wait, wait, wait," Bolin interrupted, "you two know each other?"
"We were best friends until seventh grade when I moved a could cities over. We lost touch until last night." Korra replied.
"I saw her on her interview last night and thought that that was the perfect moment to try and get her attention," I said.
"I see," was all Bolin could say.
We sat in Bolin's living room for an hour before going to my place. I did promise Bolin that I'd show Korra around, didn't I? We both need a roommate, and she's close to her friends. And we'll get to know each other better. It's a win-win situation.
"Your apartment is beautiful, Asami," Korra said. I turned and smiled at her before saying, "thank you."
I showed her the room that she'd be staying in if she were to move it. It's a little bit smaller than my room but big enough to fit all of her belongings. "You know what, Asami?"
"What?" I asked.
"I'll take you up on your offer. I know this is our first time seeing each other in over five years, but I think this is the opportunity to become friends again."
"I agree with that statement. When did your lease start?"
"A couple of days ago, but I think they'd understand if I were to say that the apartment was too expensive and that I'd be broke by the end of the month if I were to stay. How much is the rent here?"
"It's eighteen-hundred dollars, which is cheap for a beautiful two-bedroom apartment."
"That is cheap," Korra said, "it's a good thing that I haven't unpacked yet."
After showing Korra around the apartment, I decided to make her and Bolin dinner. Before my mother passed away, she taught me Asian dishes that she learned from her parents. I decided to make their dumplings. My mom gave me the family-secret recipe, so I'm hoping that they enjoy the food.
It took me about an hour before I finished making the dish. I could tell that both Bolin and Korra were starving by the looks I saw on their faces. Korra finished her food before I even sat at the table.
"These are delicious, Asami," she complimented.
"Thank you, Korra. That means a lot."
She smiles at me before getting up and serving herself seconds. It's a good thing that I made enough for everyone to have seconds or thirds if they're hungry enough. It always makes me happy when my friends enjoy my food. It makes you feel accomplished.
"What in these?" Bolin asked.
"That's a secret that I tell no one. Not even my father."
"Really?" Korra asked, "I thought your dad made dishes like this all the time."
"Sure, he does. Just not as good as me."
"We have a cocky one here," I heard Bolin say.
"I'm not cocky, Bolin," I say, "I'm just assertive."
"She's got you there, Bo," Korra told the boy, laughing as she about to go in for another bite of dumpling.
I couldn't help but giggle at the conversation that we're having. It feels nice whenever you surround yourself with a group of people you feel comfortable around.
Throughout the night, both Korra and I had posted our Instagram stories about how much fun we're having.
"Hey, Korra. I have an idea."
"What's that?"
"Well, I have an extra room in the apartment that I have no clue what I'm going to use it for; What if we were to make a YouTube channel, and the first video we post is reading messages regarding us hanging out."
"Do you have a camera with you?"
"Always. I'm a model, so I need a good quality camera to take pictures of myself." Korra giggled at that.
"We could just film in it the living room for now."
"Great!"
I pulled out my camera and tripod, got it ready and pressed record.
"Hey guys, it's Asami Sato. Today I have Korra Andrews, also known as The Avatar, here with me reading out messages regarding the night we have had tonight." I said to the camera.
"As some of you know, I joined the LA Novas earlier this month and will not be answering any questions about it. I know you're curious, but as of right now, I know as much as you do."
So far, so smooth.
"Korra, log into your Instagram and press the tenth message from the top in your requests."
"The tenth? You mean I have to count?"
"Yes, Silly. You have to count to ten."
As Korra was counting to the tenth message, I got up to grab us some water. We might be here a while, so we should stay hydrated.
"I got it," I heard Korra yell from the other room.
"I'll be right there. Make sure to screen record to screenshot the message so that the viewers of this video know what it says."
I sat down before she started reading the message out loud. "Hey, Korra. Who's that girl you're with?" She said, "well, the girl I'm with is a friend of mine who I lost touch with and finally found again. Now it's your turn, Asami."
I went to the tenth message in my direct messages. "Please go on a date with me," the message read. "Hey, so I'm not on the market right now, and from the looks of it, you're a part of the male gender which I do not prefer. Unless you're someone special, then we can talk."
Korra looked at me as if she was in shock. It would make sense since I had no clue I liked women until grade ten. How would she have found out?
The night went on like this. Reading each other messages until we felt that there was enough content. After filming, we decided that we wanted ice cream; the best ice cream shop, in my opinion, that I've visited on my many trips to LA is only two blocks away. The walk was calming. Since both of us aren't super famous, we were only stopped by fans once or twice. Don't get me wrong, I love my fans, but sometimes I need some alone time.
I can already see "Asami Sato and Korra Andrews: New Lesbian Lovers?" and to that, I'd announce no, just friends. Just friends who met for the first time in years today. The press already knows that I prefer women; From the articles about Korra, they have no clue what her sexuality is, which is fine. That's why I don't label myself.
Once we arrived at my apartment after we went for ice cream, Korra sadly had to go home. We had so much fun; I even invited her to stay the night, which she declined.
I don't have many friends, and I'm grateful that I'm surrounding myself with people that I not only like, but know that I'll get along with for as long as I live here. It's not every day that you find someone you vibe with so well. That person to me is Korra. It felt great seeing her again. Not only because we haven't seen each other in years, but because it felt as if we never stopped being friends.
After Korra left, I decided that I'd start editing the footage that we recorded tonight. An hour and a half of footage to clean through. That'll take a long time to finish. I worked on the editing for about an hour before deciding to head to bed. Not only am I exhausted, but I'll fall asleep comfortably; In a bed that I know is mine.
My father used to redecorate my room every six months, which was cool at first; All I wanted was a room that could stay the same, especially as a teenager. I love my father, but the use of the money for my room could've gone somewhere else. Now I'm able to decorate my room any way I want.
Speaking of money, I need to get a part-time job so that I'm able to afford this apartment.
I'll find something tomorrow.
