Asami's P.O.V
The move went smoothly. Surprisingly.
Never in a million years did I think that I'd regain touch with Korra, let alone become her roommate. So far, it's been a nice change; I hope it stays that way.
I woke up this morning to the smell of toast and coffee, two of my favourite scents. I walked into the kitchen to find Korra preparing breakfast for the two of us.
"Good morning, sleepyhead," she said to me as I walked towards her.
"Morning," I responded, yawning. "What's for breakfast?"
"Toast, eggs, and coffee."
"Right on!"
The breakfast was enjoyable. We chatted about how our lives have changed since we separated in the summer of eighth grade; Korra is a soccer player and I a model.
"If I work hard enough, I might be able to qualify for the Olympics. All I'd have to do is train crazy hard." Korra told me. She had a smile on her face, which means that she plans on doing the work.
"Just don't tire yourself out. You already train every day. We don't need you to pass out from exhaustion every night." I told her as I took a bite of my eggs.
She smiled, "I know. The Olympics are around the corner, and I need to be ready. It's been my dream for as long as I can remember."
"Kind of like me walking Victoria's Secret runway."
"Exactly like that."
The rest of our chat consisted of making fun of celebrities, gossip that we had missed out on, and how our parents are. From the sounds of it, Senna and Tonraq are doing quite well. And Naga is still around.
Naga is Korra's Great Pyrenees that she got for her twelfth birthday. I remember her expression as if it were yesterday.
"Korra, we have a surprise for you." I heard Senna say from the neighbouring room. "Asami, make sure her eyes are closed."
I did just that. I placed my hands over Korra's eyes so that she wouldn't be able to peak.
"Okay, three, two, one, open."
"No way," was all I heard before she started crying from pure joy. "You're joking."
"One hundred percent serious," Tonraq told his daughter. "Happy birthday, Sweetheart."
"I love you guys."
It took Korra a couple of days to come up with a name. Eventually, she chose the name Naga. No name fits that dog better. Since Korra and I are now nineteen, that would mean that Naga is seven. That would make sense as to how she's still alive.
Once we finished breakfast, I got ready to head out with some of my model friends that I'd met at shoots months earlier who just happened to live in Los Angeles. Knowing Korra, she'll be heading to the gym any moment if she hasn't already gone.
I decided I'd wear ripped jeans, a tan cropped sweater, and my tan checkered vans.
When I walked into the living room, I saw Korra sitting on the couch, scrolling through her phone. From the looks of it, she didn't look too happy.
"What's up?" I asked her in a concerned tone.
"People on Twitter are just dumb. They love to assume people's sexuality even without meeting them in person."
"My fans or yours?"
"Both," she responded.
I know how to fix this. I took out my phone and opened Instagram. "Good morning, everyone. So I see there's a rumour going around that I'm and Miss Korra Andrews aren't dating. All I can say to that is that the rumour is false. We're just friends; I'm bi, she's straight. I'd appreciate it if you were to drop this. Have a nice day." Post.
And just like that, the problem could get fixed.
"You didn't have to do that," Korra said.
"I know. I just felt as if I needed to fix it even though it didn't need fixing."
She nodded.
I walked to the kitchen so that I'd be able to grab my purse. I put a couple of granola bars so that if I became hungry, I had something in my bag I'd be able to munch.
"I'll be back in a couple of hours," I yelled as I was walking out of the door.
I told my friends Opal Beifong and Kuvira Mercia that I'd meet them at a park that wasn't too far from my apartment complex.
I met them at a shoot about six months ago at a shoot in New York. A couple of weeks later, I got a message from Opal telling me that she and Kuvira had started dating. I couldn't have been happier for the two. They hit it off quickly, resulting in them getting together.
Once nearing the park, I spotted a tall, dark-haired woman, who I couldn't help but assume was Kuvira. I was right. As soon as they spotted me, I couldn't help but sprint towards them. It's been so long since I've seen them; it's the only appropriate approach to the situation.
"It's so good to see you," I said to both of them as I hugged each of them.
"It's been so long," I heard Opal say as I was hugging Kuvira.
"We talk every day, Opal. It's not like we lost touch." I poked her in the side to push her buttons.
I'm excited for the day to come.
Kuvira, Opal, and I went for sushi as the activity we decided on doing. We found a restaurant where the sushi belt passes by you, and you choose which item you'd like. None of us had been to a restaurant like that, so we decided on trying it out.
Once seated, Kuvira asked, "What's the deal with that Korra girl?"
"We're just friends. Recently connected after years of being separated. That's all."
"I see," Opal said as she placed a roll of sushi in her mouth. She gave me a look as if she were indicating that Korra and I could be something more.
"I swear," I told the both of them, hoping that would end that topic. Kuvira put her arms up, indicating that she surrendered to what I had said. I rolled my eyes.
"Tell me about you guys. The ups and downs of the relationship."
"A downside to the relationship is that one of a had to drop modelling. The agency said that "they could only handle one lesbian," so Kuvira dropped it. I told her that I would, but she kept insisting since she got into the industry "by accident."
"Are you serious? That's horrible. You loved it too, Kuvira."
"It's alright. All I need is to watch Opal succeed. Her smile is what I live to see at the end of the day." Kuvira responded. Could they get any cuter? I don't think so.
The lunch was quick. Before we knew it, we were heading our separate ways. It's always sad when you leave your friends, but I'm sure I'll be seeing them again soon.
Once I returned home, I saw Korra in the same position as I left her. "Hey," I said as I walked towards her.
"Hey," she replied. "How was the outing?"
"It was great. I'm glad that I got to spend time with Opal and Kuvira due to how busy our schedules are."
"Understandable. I'm glad you had fun."
I sat down on the couch, not knowing what to do. Soon enough, I got back up and decided to take a nap. A girl needs her naps, even if they could end up being three hours long.
My nap did that.
The nap I intended to be short took two and a half hours. Not that I'm complaining.
For the third time today, I walked into the living room, but this time I don't find Korra anywhere. Maybe she's out for a run?
Once I finished searching the apartment for the missing person, I decided that now was the time to make something to eat. I planned on making enough so that if Korra arrives, she'd be able to eat as well.
I made enough baked spaghetti so that tomorrow we'd have enough to eat for lunch. Will we get bored of the same flavours? One hundred percent. Will we put up with it? Yes.
About an hour after I finished making the meal, Korra came into the kitchen with a look that I could describe as unhappy.
"Are you alright?" I asked Korra, making sure that she was okay.
"I just had a bad day. There's nothing to worry about," she replied.
"I'm here if you need to talk. Whenever you need."
She grabbed a granola bar and went straight to her room. I know exactly how it feels when you have a bad day. I have them all the time.
Two weeks later.
Korra has been quite busy the past couple of weeks. So busy that I've rarely seen her.
She's been training even harder due to the season coming around the corner. I'm sure that it's causing her a lot of stress, but I can't do anything due to her not speaking to me.
Bolin came over yesterday after he finished work to check in on me since we hadn't spoken in a couple of days. That man is so sweet. If Opal and Kuvira weren't together, I'm sure that Opal and Bolin would get along quite well.
He's outgoing and courageous, whereas Opal is quiet and shy. I would introduce the two, but I don't want to risk Kuvira breaking up with Opal or verse-visa.
I also went on a couple of dates with a girl named Amber, who I like. She's kind. She's smart. She also has a great butt; It could either be genetics, or she works out a lot. But sadly, she didn't see us going anywhere, so she called off our relationship, which caused me to hide in my room for a couple of days. I'm okay now, but what bothered me was that Korra didn't even check on me.
Other than that, my week was pretty good.
I had a couple of photoshoots that I was invited to by a few of my model friends. They were an absolute blast. I had a ton of fun with the girls, and I can't wait to hang out with them again.
I walked into the kitchen, where I find Korra sitting on the island.
"Hey," I say as I walk further into the kitchen.
"Hey," she replied.
"Why have you been avoiding me?" I asked, trying not to sound like a bitch.
"I'm not."
"It feels like you are. I haven't spoken to you in almost two weeks. You've been so busy with training that I've felt lonely. My friends haven't been there for me when a girl I liked decided to end it.".
"You got broken up with?" Now she cares?
"Yeah, Amber broke up with me last week because she didn't think our relationship wasn't going anywhere."
"I'm sorry, Asami." Korra was looking down at her hands in disappointment. "If I had known, I would've been there for you. And you're right. I have been training way
too hard. The season starts in two months, and my coach has been pushing me harder than she ever has. I'll take the weekend off. Maybe we could go to Disneyland?"
"I'd love that, Korra. Thank you," I replied to her rant.
Due I how late it was, I decided that I was going to go to bed. I have never been a fan of falling asleep, but the dreams that come after are what I love.
Tonight I had a dream about my mom. It's been almost a decade and a half since she passed away, so it felt amazing being able to talk to her, even if it was only in a dream.
We went out for lunch, and she went on about how proud she was of me. About how she wished I hadn't gone through so much at such a young age.
I woke up at four a.m. crying.
The Next Morning
Although I don't remember the dream I had last night, I knew it was emotional due to the tear stains on my cheeks.
I got out of bed and made my way to the kitchen for breakfast. I saw Korra preparing breakfast, which smelled amazing. From the smell, I guessed that she was making omelets.
Korra turned and said, "I was going to surprise you with breakfast in bed."
"I'm sorry for ruining your plan, but it smells delicious in here. What are you making?"
"Omelets." I was right.
Korra and I ate at the island while we chatted about what we're going to do today. Korra already went to the gym, so she'll be here for a couple of hours before she needs to go to the track to practice her running.
Today, I didn't have any plans, so I asked Korra if I could join her at the track. Before I was a model, I was on the track team at my high school. I was ranked number 1 in my state, but due to my mental health and eating disorder, I decided to break from the stress of running.
"Of course you can come. Do you want to run with me? My coach will be there, so don't be surprised if she complements you; or me."
I laugh at what she said, "of course I'll run with you. I need the exercise and beating you is all I need to motivate myself."
After breakfast, I got ready to go, putting on my favourite gym shorts and a loose-fitting top. I also put on a pair of socks that I know won't rub too much while running.
I head out towards the living room, where I see Korra putting on a pair of running shoes. Since Korra had put her clothes and belongings away, she can find everything a lot easier.
I head to the front of the apartment, near the front door, to find a pair of runners. Once finding a pair of shoes that I find comfortable, I head to the living room to put them on.
"Almost ready?" Korra asked.
"Almost," I replied. "I just need to put my shoes on."
Once I had them on, Korra let me know that we were walking to the track due to how close we lived.
As we were walking, I noticed a small tattoo on Korra's ankle. From the looks of it, it looked like crossed arrows. "What's that tattoo on your ankle?"
"The arrows are the Cherokee symbol of friendship. I got it to remember my time in Atlanta since I don't see myself going back any time soon."
"That's amazing." She smiled as we kept walking.
"Do you have any tattoos?" Korra asked.
"No. Due to how strict the rules are at my agency, I'm not able to unless I retire from modelling."
"I see."
We walked the rest of the way in comfortable silence.
Once we arrived, I noticed a woman sitting in the middle of the field. From the looks of it, she must've been meditating. As we walked closer to the woman, she looked up and smiled at the two of us.
"Welcome, to my humble home-away-from-home," the woman, who I assume is Korra's coach, said to the two of us.
"Hey, Kya," Korra said to her coach. "I brought a friend along to challenge me."
"More the merrier. Can you run?" Kya asked Asami.
"Was ranked number one in Georgia my senior year of high school."
"That's impressive, my friend. How often do you train?"
"I haven't in a long time. I've been thinking about it more now, but it all depends on my mental health. Plus, I'm a model, so it also depends on that."
"You could be a sports model," Kya mentioned, "many of the girls that I have trained in the past are now sports models. Including Korra."
I smiled at Kya, "what sports are you coaching? Depending on whether I want to go ahead with training again."
"Track and soccer. Mornings are for track, and the afternoon is for soccer."
After our conversation about training again, we went to the starting line and started stretching. From how much my legs hurt by the stretching, I knew that this would be tough. I know I'm fit, but not fit enough.
At first, we started slow, only jogging around the track. Then Kya moved us to one hundred-meter sprint.
"Okay, Asami, I know you're only here for fun, but I want to see what you can do. I want you two to get to the starting line. When I say, you both will sprint as fast and hard as you can."
"Understood," I told Kya. I'm excited to get started.
"On your mark..."
"Get set..."
"Go!"
And without a second to waste, I was up and already ahead of Korra. Before I knew it, I was already across the finish line.
"Ten point nine-nine seconds, Asami. That's incredible. If you kept training, I'm sure I'd get you to the number one spot."
At this point, I was blushing. "I'll have to think about it."
Once Korra finished her training, we walked back to the apartment.
Once back at the apartment, I head straight to the shower. If I know anything, it's that I stink after a workout. I showered quickly since Korra also had to shower.
"Korra, it's all yours," I yelled as I walked out of the bathroom.
"Thanks," I heard her yell back.
I decided to put on pyjamas since I had nowhere to go today. I rarely have these days, so when they happen, I make the most out of them.
Once in my comfy clothing, I head into the living room so that I'd be able to watch my favourite show, Supernatural.
Korra joined me in the living room once she got out of the shower, "What ate we watching?"
"Supernatural. It's one of my favourite shows."
"Ahhh, I see."
Before I know it, it's already ten o'clock.
Hours ago, Korra fell asleep on my shoulder; I didn't mind. I got up, making sure to support her head so that I wouldn't wake her. I lifted her, surprised due to how light she was. You'd expect someone with the amount of muscle that Korra has to be heavy.
I placed her in her bed, making sure to cover her with her blanket. I didn't want her to wake up in the middle of the night due to her feeling cold.
I kissed her forehead, "goodnight, Korra."
I heard a mumble.
Since I have a photoshoot tomorrow, I know that I have to head to bed soon. It's never fun when you go to work tired.
I head to my room, jump into my bed, and try to get comfortable. It takes me a while, but I do eventually fall asleep.
I wonder what dreams I'll have tonight.
