Prologue

"Hi there!"

A small girl with long black hair set in a high ponytail looked up from her book to meet the eyes of a young boy with bright golden hair and eyes the shade of a bright blue that almost seemed to glow, looking directly into her coal colored eyes with a smile on his face.

"Um… hello," she replied shyly, confused as to why he was talking to her of all people.

"My name's Naruto Uzumaki, what's yours?" He asked with curiosity and politeness in voice, using the lesson on manners he was taught recently by his parents.

"Suki… my name is Suki Uchiha." She said, before continuing."It's nice to meet you Naruto."

"It's nice to meet you too Suki! Is it alright if I sit with you?" He asked, looking down at the spot next to her underneath the tree.

Seeing nothing wrong with the request she replied to his question, "I don't see why not, company is always nice." Gaining some confidence the more she talked to him.

"Awesome thanks!" He said, sitting right next to her, leaning his back on the trunk of the tree with their shoulders almost touching.

They sat in silence for a little while with Suki reading her book and Naruto watching the courtyard as their classmates played before he asked her a question.

"What book are you reading?"

"Moby-Dick by Herman Melville." She replied without looking up from her reading.

"*snort* hehehehehe, you said dick."

She rolled her eyes at his words, "Don't be such an immature dummy, it's just a word, it's not that funny."

"We're little kids, we're supposed to be immature Suki." He said back cheekily with a grin.

"Ugh that doesn't mean we have to if we're smart enough to know better," She retorted, looking up from her book to make eye contact with him. "I can tell you're the same as me, you just have more fun hiding your intelligence."

"Oho! So you've figured me out already?" He said with excitement in his voice while putting his hands behind his head.

"Of course I have, from one genius to another you shouldn't hide how smart you are. Revel in how you stand above your peers, for you are better than them." She said with clear arrogance in her voice.

"Hmmm. But how would we make friends and keep them if we act superior to them and we place ourselves higher as if they are insignificant to us when we are all still human?" He asked rhetorically, knowing Suki wouldn't be able to answer with complete confidence.

"I… I don't know, maybe by placing ourselves with people on our level, like we are doing now with each other." She replied with hesitation.

"Heh, we'll have to chip away at your arrogance some more," He mused before placing an arm around her shoulder. "But we have years to do that and we'll get to it eventually."

"Don't be so confident loser," she scoffed, "and the Uchiha are not arrogant; we are simply proud of our natural born intelligence, and why have you placed an arm around me? We just met."

"I'm very into physical touch, you'll get used to it, besides you're my new best friend now."

"Hmph whatever, just be quiet while I read." She said blushing a light shade of pink on her pale skin before leaning into his shoulder and reopening her book.

"Che, whatever you say princess."

It was so quiet that day, during the funeral no one spoke except the priest but hardly anyone paid attention to him. The flapping of an insect's wing could break the silence that was present.

Naruto and Suki, now at the age of 14, were standing next to each other with Suki's family standing to her right and Naruto's father to his left, the two were holding hands for support.

It wasn't raining that day while the funeral was proceeding, it was actually sunny despite the somber mood. As if the world was mocking them with the death of Kushina Uzumaki. A wonderful mother and a beloved wife.

She was diagnosed with cancer last year and tried her damned hardest to beat it but she had failed. She made sure to stay strong for her husband and son, to not look weak until the very end. She died happy with a smile on her face knowing she was able to say goodbye to them one last time before her death.

After the priest had finished his speech people had started leaving to allow the closest family to have their time with her.

Suki hadn't left Naruto's side. She couldn't, she was sad about Kushina as well. She was basically a second mother to her, but she had to be there for her best friend who had looked up to the sky at this point with his eyes closed.

She looked towards him, at his face to show her support when she noticed a single tear going down his face.

"Naruto…" She whispered.

"Heh it's a terrible day for rain, the weather forecast didn't say a thing about it today, the lying pricks." He said with a light frown on his face. That was the only tear shedded during the funeral.

Suki simply wrapped her arms around him, bringing him into a hug before saying, "Yeah… they need to do better."

Naruto returned the embrace, leaning his head into the crook of her neck.

They sat in silence, in each other's arms until Kushina's casket had been buried and it was time for them to go, with the Uchiha family following Minato and Naruto to their home so they wouldn't be so alone in their house without the matriarch of the family.

"Dad!" A 16 year old Naruto bursted into a hospital room with Suki right behind him following.

Minato looked up from his legs underneath the sheets of his bed before looking up to greet his son, "Hey son, I'm glad you were able to get here so fast."

The son rushed to his father's side before sitting down on a chair next to the bed and grabbed his hand.

"Dad what happened? Are you okay? The only news I got was from what the school told me and they only said you were in the hospital." Naruto said with urgency while he looked over the body of his father to figure out what might have happened to him.

"I'm alright for the most part son, just a little banged up from the car wreck but… the doctor already told me the worst of my injuries." Minato replied in a somber tone.

"What? What did the doctor tell you Dad?" Naruto asked.

Minato gave a long sigh before replying, "…The doctor said that my L4 vertebrae is damaged and I can't walk. I might be able to in the future if I put in the work but for now I'll have to use a wheelchair to get around."

That statement had shocked Naruto and Suki who had been standing quietly behind Naruto.

"Shit… What about your job? I can't push you to work when I have to get to school." Naruto stated his worry about his Dad's new handicap.

"I already talked to my bosses about the situation and they're fine with letting me work from home. I just have to be there for the video meetings online. No surprise they're letting me work from home I'm the only one who knows what the fuck their doing in that damn office." He said before muttering the last part.

Naruto gave a sigh of relief before sitting back and contemplating their money situation, especially since they've been struggling a bit now that they're a single income household.

While he did that Suki finally spoke up to ask Minato a question, "How are you feeling Mr. Namikaze?"

I'm okay Suki. Mentally at least, can't say much about the old walkers though." He said with a hint of mirth, trying to make light of the situation. "And what have I said about calling me that? You're basically family at this point, you can call me Dad at this point you know?"

"Especially since you're my future Daughter-in-law." He teased.

Both Suki and Naruto started to blush up a storm at the teasing from the now crippled Father.

"We are not dating!" They shouted in sync,

"Sure you aren't. You both definitely did not just say the same sentence word for word like you haven't been dating since you met."

Naruto buried his face in his hands to hide his blush while Suki turned her head away from the two of them in embarrassment.

"I can't wait to be a grandfather, hurry up and get busy already, kids. You never make any noise when you two are hanging out upstairs."

After that statement Naruto had enough and bemoaned out his pain, "Father please stop before I let the hospital keep you indefinitely."

Minato chuckled softly, "Alright alright, I'm done. The doctors have to do one last check up and set up future physical therapy sessions to see about walking again, then you can take me home."

"Thank God it's over, I'm going to get food from the vending machine. Do either of you two want anything?" Suki asked before she left.

"A honey bun please Suki." "Some barbecue chips if you wouldn't mind sweetheart." Naruto and Minato said respectively.

She nodded and left to get the requested snacks, leaving the Father and Son alone.

"…So Dad be honest, how bad are things for us right now?" Naruto asked, wanting to know what would change in their life.

"Not much, my boy. As much as I hate to say it, you might have to find a job to help out with the medical bills" Minato said, upset that he might be taking time away from Naruto's highschool experience.

"That's no problem for me Dad, I'll do whatever I have to if those expenses need to be paid. I just want to make sure you aren't under a mountain of debt." Naruto said, expressing his willingness to do any kind of work to help out his old man.

"Thank you Son. You have no idea how much this means to me."

"Of course Dad, we're all we got left of our little family."

"Stop it. You'll make your old man cry if you keep that up." Minato said softly to the young man he's raised all these years. "I'm proud of you Naruto, and I know for certain you're Mom would feel the exact same way."

The young man's eyes started getting misty at the mention of his beloved mother before blinking away his tears. "Thanks Dad, I'm sure she's smiling down on us even now." Naruto said, choking up a bit.

After their moment they stayed silent for a little while when Suki finally made it back and gave them their respective snacks.

"Thanks Suki." "Thank you little missy." They both said with smiles.

Suki gave a small smile and nodded to the both of them before saying, "No problem at all."

Suddenly the door opened showing a doctor with a clipboard who began to speak. "Alright Mr. Namikaze, we'll begin our final check up and then your Son and his girlfriend can take you home."

Both Naruto and Suki let out a groan at the statement while Minato began to laugh outrageously.

"See kids? Even the doctor knows how obvious it is." Minato said after he finished laughing.

"Whatever Dad."

During the past year now a 17 year old Naruto had been working to help pay the bills in his house. He still spent time with Suki who he was currently on his way to meet with and finally tell her… tell her he had feelings for her and prayed to every god and deity out there that she would accept them.

Once arriving at the agreed meeting place he saw her wearing blue jeans that ended above her ankles, a white long sleeve shirt with a black jacket over it and white shoes. All in all she looked absolutely beautiful to him despite her ever present scowl but when she noticed him it turned into a small smile.

Walking up to her spoke, "Hey Suki, I hope I didn't keep you waiting long."

Naruto gave a fake pout at her nickname for him, "Geez you're so mean for still calling me that especially after all these years we've been together, don't you love me?" He said, teasing her at the end.

Suki's ears and cheeks became a dark red before she punched him in the shoulder and started sputtering, "S-shut the hell up! And don't say it like that! We've been best friends for years ever since that day you sat beside me." She finished with a huff, crossing her arms and looking to the side.

"Pfft alright I get it I won't make those kinds of jokes anymore, you happy?"

She looked back at him and uncrossed her arm before replying, "Very. Now come on, let's enjoy Golden Week while we still can." Grabbing his hand she started to drag him away to their destination.

"Che, whatever you say princess."

The two had spent the whole day together. They are sweets and cakes, went shopping at the behest of Suki, and played games at the arcade until the sun started to set, causing them to end up at Naruto's house where they laid on a blanket in the backyard looking at the stars in silence.

After the minutes of pure quiet Naruto finally spoke, ready to tell Suki the truth.

"… Hey Suki." He had said it so quietly she almost missed it.

"Yeah Naruto?" She replied to the calling of her name right next to her.

He let out a sigh of nervousness before turning onto his side to look at her and began his confession, "I have something I want to tell you… Something that I've been wanting to say to you for years."

She looked at him before also moving to lay on her side to face him completely.

"What do you want to tell me?" She said with a look of curiosity on her face.

"Suki… I love you." He had finally said it after so many years, he had finally told the love of his life how he felt.

She gained a soft smile on her face at his world before gently placing a hand on his cheek and stroking it with her thumb.

"I love you too Naruto, you're my best friend."

He shook his head softly at her words, never breaking eye contact and began to speak, "I don't love you as a friend Suki, I love you as a woman. I don't just love you, I'm in love with you."

The young Uchiha was quite shocked at the confession but eventually regained her composure and she whispered his name. "Naruto…" before she leaned in to kiss him fully on the mouth which he returned completely and placed a hand on her hip while she placed her right hand on his chest before they reluctantly broke apart with a trail of saliva between which was wiped away while they panted from their heated kiss.

Eventually they regained their breath when Naruto began to talk, "I don't want to be just friends with you Suki, I want to be your boyfriend, I want us to be together in every conceivable way in mind, body, and spirit. I want you and I want you to be my equal in life."

The two were now dressed and in the kitchen after Naruto had thrown his messy sheets into the washer. Suki was currently at the stove voluntarily making an American breakfast that she loved, which was pancakes, eggs and sausage.

After the food was plated and placed on the table Minato rolled into the dining room, smelling the food that had gotten him out of bed before wheeling over to an open space at the table where a plate of food was.

"Morning you two! Did you have fun last night?" He asked, hiding a grin at the information he was about to reveal to the young couple.

Naruto swallowed the bite of food he had in his mouth before replying, "Uh yeah we sure did Dad, why do you ask?"

"Oh no reason but I thought I should let the two of you know to keep it down a bit next time," He said with a Cheshire grin, causing Suki who was about to take a bite of pancakes to freeze and Naruto who's eye widened at the fact his father heard him having sex last night.

"Took you long enough son, I was starting to think I'd never have little Suki as my daughter in law." Making Naruto and Suki plant their faces in their hands with a tomato red blush.

Looking up, Naruto apologized to his father, "God Dad I'm so sorry you had to hear that. This is so fucking embarrassing."

Laughing at his son Minato replied, "it's quite alright my boy just make sure to be more quiet next time and wear one of these." When he said he tossed Naruto a box which he caught and looked at it.

Only to see it was a box of condoms which made Suki's blush go nuclear right after she looked up while Naruto just decided to pocket the box and decided to voice a concern.

"Dad… first of all thank you, second of all how do you know my size?"

Minato just gave a bit of a flat stare before replying, "Don't worry about that, just make sure you give me grandkids when you're ready."

The younger blond man just gave a sigh and said, "Whatever, let's just eat." And used his fork to place his food into his mouth and chewed.

The three ate in silence, Suki was silent because she was still embarrassed due to the information revealed to her earlier, Naruto was quiet with slight annoyance towards his father, said man was enjoying it with a slight smirk on his face while he ate.

After the trio were done eating, Naruto checked the time on his phone before frowning and standing up.

"Hey Dad I gotta go, I promised a friend to help him out with something. Suki you can stay here if you want, I'll be back in like 3 hours."

Having said that, Naruto gave his girlfriend small kiss on the lips before hugging his Dad and putting his plate and utensils in the sink and moving down the hall to get dressed for his day.

Suki and Minato watched him go to his room before looking at each other, the older blonde decided to ask the young lady about this, "Suki do you know anything about what he's doing?"

Shaking her head she replied with, "No, he hasn't told me a thing about it."

"Mm weird."

Suki nodded in agreement, "Very weird, I'll make sure to ask him about it when he gets back."

Once she said that footsteps were heard coming down the hall and the two looked to see Naruto wearing a navy blue suit with a black tie and brown dress shoes with his hair pulled back and tied to keep it out of his face and tidy looking.

Confused as to why her boyfriend was wearing a suit, she just had to ask, "Um Naruto, why are you wearing a suit to help out your friend?"

Looking down at his clothing he answered her question with a quick reply, "Oh this? He needs me in more formal attire for some fancy party that needs an usher or security guard. That kinda thing," looking at his watch and seeing the time again he rushed over to the two at the table and once more gave his girlfriend a kiss and his father a hug. "Gotta go I'll be back later, love you both bye."

With that he was out the door and on his way to his destination.

"Mm still weird."

"Very."

Naruto was currently outside a large traditional Japanese home with a older man wearing a black suit and tie who was smoking a cigarette, taking one more puff he threw it on the ground and stomped on it before looking over at the blond kid who had been doing errands for the family for over a year now.

The truth behind the work Naruto had been doing for the past year was that he was delivering packages for one of the biggest yakuza families in his city, and he was about to be initiated into said family by the boss.

Taking a calming breath to stop the slight shake in his hand and wiping the sweat off of himself, he replied to his soon to be older brother, "Yeah I'm ready, just didn't expect to go from errand boy to a member so soon Jun."

Giving a light chuckle at that, the now named Jun patted him on the back as reassurance before guiding him inside, "You should be proud of that fact little brother, you're an up and comer and you got what it takes to be someone big in this life."

Eventually they reached a closed sliding door, giving him one pat Jun wished him luck before leaving Naruto by himself in front of the door.

Taking a deep breath and preparing himself, Naruto knocked on the door and asked out loud to the person on the other side for permission to come in, "May I come in, Madam Fukitsuna?"

"Yes you may." Was the short reply given to him before he opened the door and gave a deep bow to the lady at the short table who was sitting seiza position.

She was an older woman in her 40s with her hair done up in a traditional way while wearing a red kimono, a defining feature on face was the eyepatch over her right eye; she had lost it in a battle between another family which had earned her the nickname Hawk eye Fukitsuna. A name that had stuck over the years due her single eye being as sharp as s hawks.

Rising from his bow he noticed another member of the family off to the side holding a tray that held a bottle of sake and two cups before he greeted his leader, "Good afternoon Madam Fukitsuna, might I join you on this lovely day?"

She looked at him with her one good eye with a stern visage before nodding her consent.

Seeing the nod he moved forward and sat across from her also in seiza position when she motioned the member to the side to come forward with the tray.

The third member placed down the tray and put one cup in front of the boss and the second in front of the new recruit before opening the bottle of alcohol.

He poured a large serving into the lady's cup up until it hit the brim before pouring a smaller serving into the young man's cup and backed away.

The two both reached for their cups and picked them up before taking a small sip, they looked at each other and then exchanged cups and took another sip.

They placed down the cups, signifying the end of the ceremony with Madam Fukitsuna speaking after a few moments of silence, "Welcome to the family my son." She said with a slight smile on her aged face.

Naruto bowed his head down in respect before replying, "Thank you for this opportunity of greatness… Mother."
