Maya went through her luggage practically pulling out every item she owned She was wearing her white jacket fidgeting in her newly bought shirt and pants. Kaz gave her a stack of kruge to buy clothes from the store, her hand made clothes although stylish would of stood out. Jesper had dark brown skin gray eyes stood tall at six foot five and despite all the rich food he ate he was fairly skinny. "I threw it overboard." Jesper said. "You did what?" She left her clothes where they were as she stood up angrily. It took a while to calm her down after her nightmare and now she was desperate to keep herself awake. "Wylan and I talked it over before you… well you know. We decided that I'll hold you at night so that doesn't happen again."

"How does Wylan feel about that?" Maya asked. "He was against it at first but he's okay with it." Jesper answered. "That's very noble of you but we can just tie my foot to one of the pole's." She countered. "Wylan and I already talked to Kaz and told him what we agreed to." Jesper calmly explained.

"I haven't agreed it." Maya stooped over the put her clothes back in her luggage. "If you don't than Kaz will drop you back in Ketterdam." Jesper explained. "No one else can do what I can there's no way he would…" Jesper interrupted her. "Yes he would and I had to talk him out of it.

We won't chance you slipping out of the rope or waking everyone by tripping on the floor. Kaz has already stopped the boat awaiting your decision." Maya stopped what she was doing, looking at Jesper with a pleading look. "We're all just looking out for your wellbeing." Maya contemplated this as she stuffed the rest of her clothes back into the luggage.

"You're sure Wylan is okay with it?" Maya asked. She considered both Jesper and Wylan good friends and although Jesper flirted with her a bit, she didn't want to come between them. "Yes, all we're doing is sleeping." Jesper pointed out. "Alright." Maya gave in seeing that she couldn't argue the point.

Where the shadow fold once was there was a baron wasteland, Kaz directed his sailors to the unsea where they were let off. As they departed from the boat, pain reverberated all through Maya's body worse than the pain of having her ribs shattered by Kaz's cane; she fell to ground as images went through her mind. "My name is Aleksander Morozova, but I have had hundred names and I have committed a thousand crimes. I am not sorry. I do not repent! All I did, I did for Ravka!" Maya screamed feeling her heart pierced by thorn, feeling as the tree engulf her.

"Maya." Jesper said concerned shaking her trying to wake her as she cried out in pain. Maya woke with a start feeling one arm around her waist and another one shaking her shoulders. Inej was by her side as well as Wylan. "Are you okay?" Wylan asked. The boat was dark, and Maya found her eyes adjusting as she sat up. "I felt pain terrible pain." She said hugging herself. "You've just declared yourself to be Aleksander Morozova." Kaz said he walked over without the aid of his cane.

"It was premonition I think of the past." Maya held her heart which was beating fast. She quickly explained what happened in her dream. "Has this kind of dream ever happened before?" Inej asked curiously. "Yeah, when I dream of someone's past, I feel what they feel." She said. "How do you stand it?" Jesper asked concerned. "I don't know any other way." She replied. She looked up at Kaz. "I want to understand who this person was, maybe it has to do with why we're on the job and why Sturmhond is paying us to look for a heart." Kaz thought this over. "I'll think about this in the morning, everyone get some sleep." He said going back to his own bed.

Inej and Wylan went back to their own beddings assuring her that it was fine. Jesper wrapped his arms around her waist once she laid down next to him. "Have you dreamed of my past?" Jesper asked. "A few times." "Like what?" Jesper persisted. "You already know your own history. You don't need me to lay it out for you." "I want to know what you know." Jesper continued. "Go to sleep Jesper." Maya said. "Fine." Jesper said.

The next morning Kaz announced they were going to have a full discussion concerning Maya. Kaz prided himself on his ability to not react to a situation that would let others know what he was feeling. He spent his lifetime carefully cultivating an image to outside world that made them think he was a shark. He liked that image, that image suited him well like the business attire he wore to mock those who thought so highly of himself. This new revelation made him think of Maya as some kind of intruder who was in his home going through his belongings never realizing how powerful her dreams were of the past, thinking that she only saw the future vividly.

It was bad enough that she had a look into the past he hid from everyone even Inej. Kaz had Maya lay out the dream in full detail. The monks that surrounding her, the new Queen of Ravka and Nikolai who was said to become king again after marrying Zoya. The announcement that the darkling had made before being pierced in the heart by the Thornwood tree to his heart which was painful before being lifted up his inhuman screams that filled her ears before being woken up. Maya felt the full force of her dream once again in the re-telling it was one thing to privately speak to Kaz about her prophecy to save her life, but it was the first time she had an audience.

Maya did what she could to fit in the gang that Kaz led. Whenever she saw the stadwatch get involved she made herself scarce. Made herself known within the group that she could be trusted and was chosen for jobs that ended up paying well because she could pick and choose which jobs she wanted when they realized she was a good ally to have in a tight spot. She killed stole and beat up her enemies with such force that her name got around. She had friends within The Crow's and better yet allies. She didn't stick her head out and warn those she knew were going to die, get locked up or share her abilities with anyone. For a million Kruge she thought she could fight against her base instincts but seeing the way everyone looked at her reminded her of the freak she was.

"We have to go find that tree and figure out why we were given this mission." Maya concluded. She stood her full height, never fidgeted, or developed any other bad habits that might of let on how she felt. Her eyes met Kaz's cold stare they were a dark brown and his fingers were tightened around the gold edge of the crow's head of his walking stick.

"No." Kaz spoke. Maya gave him the gaze that made many look away. She found that having unusual eyes of green and blue made many uncomfortable and couldn't stand to look for too long, but Kaz met her eyes and found herself looking away from his dark eyes that were almost black. "What do you mean no? How can we not? It'd be an advantage maybe get some answers." Inej stood beside Jesper, and she took a deep breath and shook her head in warning to Maya.

"It does not matter why we are on the mission it is only going to slow us down." Kaz responded. "You can't be serious." She looked at Wylan and Jesper looking for support. "Having answers to why we are on the mission can only lead us in the right direction. I saw it in my vision that we were going that way, and they never steered my wrong before. It's how I survived the barrel." Maya felt the heat that came from Kaz's sudden anger.

He walked up to her, letting his cane drop as he grabbed her white coat around the collar and lifted her off the ground. His leg pulsed mercilessly but he ignored it as he put his face up to hers. "I've had enough of your back talk You survived the barrel because I helped you don't you forget that." He growled. Get me?" Maya nodded fear in her eyes, he let her down gently and she found her footing, he had half a mind to throw her completely overboard and be done with wondering if she had a mind to use her powers to get rid of him first. Wordlessly she picked his cane up for him before he could bend over to get it. He nodded as thanks.

"I'll let you know what I decide in regard to the mission, but I don't need your input however I might need to talk to you about how your visions work so that they might help in the future." Kaz walked away taking his anger with leaving Maya shiver as winter air once again surrounded her the heat from Kaz's anger leaving with him.
