I tried to make this kind of seem like JJ was in "captivity" with a foster family but it really just ended up being quite fluffy sooooo my bad...

JJ sat awkwardly in one of the blue plastic chairs lining the police station's main room. His leg bounced as anxiety coursed through him, his father had just been arrested and some women from DCS was forced to take JJ to the station, where he's been residing. He knows whats about to happen, he's likely gonna be sent to the mainland and into foster care until his dad was released, probably a couple months at best. He was caught drug dealing with some of his friends, of course.

"JJ?" The same women from before asks him, regaining his attention. She had light orange hair, almost brown in cortina lighting, white hairs growing through the roots. But she seemed to genuinely care about him, unlike how her job made it seem.

"There's this family on the mainland just outside of Charleston, Jason and Maggie McClaud. They're willing to take you in for the time being." JJ scoffed, he knows it's only because they're getting paid to do so. But he nods nonetheless. Being dragged to the police car, no belongings of his with him except for the clothes on his back and his wallet in his pocket. He sighs once again, his friends had already said their goodbyes and wished him luck, telling him that they'll see each other soon. These were going to be the longest months of his life, full of torture that JJ was not looking forward to.

...

Hi silently greets his new "parents", avoiding eye contact as they usher him in. Within 10 minutes of the DCS women leaving, he's seated at the kitchen counter with a large meal in front of him. JJ gapes at it, he doesn't remmerb the last time he's even had a full home-cooked meal like this provided for him. There was some nice smelling steak with a side of steamy whipped mashed potatoes. With his fork he dug in, ignoring the comments about how thin he was.

JJ finished soon enough and there wasn't a crumb left, he leaned back and sighed happily, stomach full for the first time in what felt like forever. This was one part of his captivity that he'll enjoy. Maggie laughs lightly at his reaction to the food, although there is something sad hidden behind her eyes. "Was it good?"

"Very. Thanks so much Mrs. McClaud." He says back, still trying to be respectful in hopes that he won't get on their bad side.

"Of course dear, Maggie is good though. Mrs. McClaud was my mother." He eyes wrinkly as she smiles. JJ smiles back. "Thanks Maggie."

...

The next day, JJ planned on just strolling around Charleston and getting used to the town all day. But what he didn't take into account was that he'd have a curfew for 8:00 and he had to be home for every meal time throughout the day, or else he wouldn't be allowed to leave the house. 8? That was torture. JJ had never lived by a curfew, just doing what he wanted until early in the morning and then sleeping through the mid-day. What the hell he breathed out as he started his walk back to the house, it was 8:17 when he got home.

JJ knew he shouldn't be scared of the family currently fostering him, but he couldn't help but feel slight wariness towards Jason, especially with him being the father figure in the household. JJ would never let Jason come to close to him without take a step of his own away. There had been multiple instances where JJ had flinched back instinctively from Jason, more often then he did with Maggie.

Thankfully, they seemed to understand. Eyes softening when they would both look at each other and then back away. Coming from the home environment he did, JJ found it quite relaxing with how much they seemingly cared for him, but he didn't allow himself to get too comfortable.

Within a month since his arrival, him and the McClauds had a rhythm, they even had a weekly game with movie night on Fridays after JJ would finish his homework from school. Yeah, that was another downside. JJ actually had to go to school and actually had to do his work, but honestly, he didn't mind it. The McClauds had set up a comfortbale environment for him and as much as he hated to admit it, he like it quite a bit.

As they three started gaining trust with each other over another 2 months, they started loosening his restrictions.

"Jason you wanna come surfing with me?" JJ shouts from outside, bounding up the front steps and poking his head around the screen door. The board he was gifted for his birthday earlier that month was already racked onto Jason's navy blue truck, knowing the answer would likely be yes. Jason laughed from the kitchen "Yeah Jay, one sec!" JJ nods with a bright smile, running to the passenger seat in the truck.

Jason stood up from the chair he was seated at and grabbed his keys from the dish sitting on the kitchen counter. "Honey you wanna come?" He says to his wife, who had been relaxing and reading a book across the hallway in the living room. She looks up and smiles lovingly, "You bet." She stands up and walks towards him, placing her book into a bag by her side. They kiss for a moment before walking out the door, Jason locking it up behind them.

"Maggie's coming too!" JJ whoops, surprising all of them when he pulls her into a hug, "Now it's a proper beach trip." He beams proudly. They all laugh in response.

At the beach, which was only a couple miles down the road, Jason and JJ surf the crests with ease while Maggie relaxes on a towel once again reading her book. She smiles at his husband and "son" relishing the warmth filling her chest as JJ throws his head back with a laugh once Jason falls off his board and a wave crashes over him.

They're there for hours until sunset, until Maggie buys them dinner and calls them back. Around then, the beach is nearly empty, so they set up a picnic with the towels they brought. The scent of burgers and fries filling the air. The "family" sits there for another hour enjoying each others company, the sun sets and it's almost pitch dark. They talk about the memories made over the last 5 months, how JJ had done surprisingly well on all of his class's finals during the last week of school. It was mid July now, so the warmth of the summer air was thick and humid, but JJ enjoyed every moment of it. Relishing it.

...

It was late August, school was starting up again in a week and the McClauds had just received a visit from DCS, the first time since JJ had been dropped off. "Luke Maybank was released from prison, and he's willing and eligible to take JJ back in." Once she looks away from JJ, he gulps, emotions taking over him. He's scared to go back to his dad, excited to see his friends again but nervous of how they'd react for the first time seeing him in a half of a year, by deeply saddened for having to leave the McClauds, they've been better parents than Luke could ever be.

He looks at them and as much as he'd hate to admit it, tears fill his eyes. Immediately, he goes for a hug, looping his arms around Jason's torso. Maggies follows and they end with a group hug, JJ's blond hair falling against Jason's shoulders. "Thank you guys so so much." His voice breaks and they hug tighter. "It's been out greatest pleasure Maggies says, tears welling in her own eyes as well." The DCS women backs away in order to give them privacy.

Once they pull away, JJ is ordered to gather the belongings he'd gained before being escorted to the beige car awaiting him. He brings with him the large board and shoves clothes into a black backpack that he throws onto his back. With one last final handshake with Jason and a teary eyed glance at Maggie, he's driven away. "Keep in touch Jay! We'll miss you very much!" Maggie says. "Love you son." were Jason's last words to JJ in what would be a long time.

Years later, JJ would go back and visit the small, dirty white, two story house that he used to call home. He'd hesitantly knock on the door but the second it opened, Maggie was revealed and the tears began. She recognized him immediately despite having lost weight once again, hit another growth spurt, slightly grown a beard, and more scars covered his body. Jason came up from behind her and beamed at the kid who he once called son.

"Welcome home." Were the only words heard while the three cried in eachother's arms while standing on the small porch.

Awww currently crying

Happy Valentine's Day guys!33
