-tamagoyaki: egg rolls. In Japan, there are sweet or salty types.
-miso and shio ramen: are obviously types of ramen. Miso ramen is made using the bean paste, miso, while shio is made using salt or soy sauce as a base.
-senbei: Japanese rice crackers
Sweet and Salty
Iruka didn't like sweets.
All of his snacks were of the salty sort, and it suited him just fine that Naruto liked ramen. He didn't even like sweet tamagoyaki.
However, when Anko began teaching kunoichi classes every Thursday at the Academy, she made a point of bringing him some, and they'd sit outside and eat dango with juice.
"How are the kids?" he'd ask.
"Great – you'd never guess how vicious girls are if you see them mixed in with the boys, but they're conniving little shits," Anko would say pleasantly as she ate her third stick. "Want some more?"
Iruka would thank her and decline the offer. His excuse changed every week, becoming increasingly elaborate.
He was watching his figure.
Sweets made him sleepy, and he had to be wide awake for any misbehavior.
He had a theory that children could smell sugar on his breath and get hyper from it.
Anko would shrug and take the last stick.
"Suit yourself."
He regarded her with some surprise, watching as she stripped each rice ball off the skewer with seasoned expertise, chew with delight, and swallow ravenously.
The next week, he brought dango for Anko and salty senbei for himself.
"Oh, you're a salty boy," Anko said, before grinning greedily. "More for me, then."
Iruka stared at her, mid senbei-bite, and the cracker broke off in his hand.
"Wha-at?" Anko asked, her cheeks full.
"Sorry, it's nothing," he said hurriedly, grinning behind his hand.
A couple of years ago, Naruto had arrived early at Ichiraku and ordered two miso ramens for them. When Iruka arrived and admitted that he'd been craving shio ramen all day, Naruto had grinned and hugged both miso ramens close to himself.
"I can still eat this," Iruka argued, but Naruto pulled them out of his reach.
"Too late!" he said, snickering, as the master began on a shio ramen for Iruka. "Hey, you're paying, right, sensei?"
"As per usual," Iruka had sighed, smiling as he watched Naruto stuff himself.
He didn't realize that he had a similar expression on his face as he watched Anko eat dango.
Whaaat?
Anko and Iruka? you may be thinking, but hear me out:
Anko is described as being like Naruto, who Iruka already adores. Also, she likes sweet and he is sweet; he likes salty and she is salty! They both end up working in the Academy, and Iruka seems to like feeding people, and Anko apparently ends up gaining some weight as she gets older... Need I say more?
Anyway, thanks for reading :)
