Chapter Nineteen: Believed in, the date and the Guilt
The next day was just a normal day until Lupin was passing by Evie's chemistry class and heard the teacher framing her of cheating. The teacher held up Evie's magic mirror as he took it from her purse without her knowing.
"Thank you, Chad. It's gratifying to see someone still respects the honor code." Mr. Deley said before looking at Evie. "It will be my recommendation that you are expelled."
"I'm sorry what seems to be the problem here?" Lupin asked
"I don't know about the magical world and how you teach but here in Auradon we take cheating very seriously." Mr. Deley said "Miss Evie has been using this magic mirror to cheat on her test and I bet on all her other classes."
"Did you catch her or have any proof that she used it for cheating?" Lupin asked
"Mr. Charming has informed me on this that she used this for her homework." Mr. Deley said
"So you have a word of a student...not actual proof. Besides, Miss Evie is one of my best students in potions. And from what Miss Potter has informed me Chemistry and Potion are almost the same, and therefore Evie wouldn't have the need to cheat." Lupin said "Also, if you had this already how do you know she was looking for this to cheat. Right, Evie."
Evie nodded.
"He's right, maybe she needed another pencil." Doug replied
"If you want any further proof then let her take the test, while I hold on to this." Lupin suggested "But if she passes, her mirror is to be returned and you'll drop the matter."
Mr. Deley sighed seeing that he had a point and agreed, much to Chad's disappointment. When she was done she quickly headed to Professor Lupin's office to show him her grade.
"Professor Lupin?" She called
"Oh hello Evie, how did you do?" Lupin asked
She smiled as she held up her test that had a B+.
"B+ is a good thing right?" Lupin asked
"Yes." She smiled
"See, I knew you could do it." Lupin said and went to retrieve her magic mirror.
"You know, for the first time it's like I'm more than just a pretty face. You and Doug help me see that." She said "Thank you for believing me."
"I know how it feels to be mistreated for being different, Miss Evie. If it wasn't for the friends that I had back at Hogwarts I might not be the man I am today." He said and handed her the mirror. "Don't let these people brand you because of who your parents are. Show them that you are more than that."
Unable to control herself Evie went and hugged Lupin. These past few days he has been one of the few that have treated her and the other VK's like normal people, not villains. That and he had become like a father figure that she never had. Lupin smiled and patted her on the back.
"Now I believe that someone else is eager to hear about your grade, Miss Evie." He smiled "I'll see you Wednesday."
The young witch nodded and after saying her goodbyes she went off to find Doug. When she did find him Mal had to whisk her away as Ben had asked her on a date.
With Hunter he was trying to ask Vanessa out properly. He asked some of her friends to find out what she liked and what she would like to do. Jordan, Genie's daughter and Pandora told him of a beautiful lagoon that would be a perfect spot for their date, along with a picnic. So with everything ready he walked up to her door and knocked on it.
"Oh, hi Hunter, what's up?" She smiled
"There's something I want to show you." He asked
"What is it?" She asked
"It's a surprise. Come on." He smiled
He took her hand into his and took her outside where his broom was.
"We're flying?" She asked
"We have to. It's a bit far where we're going." He said
"You only had three flying lessons?" She teased
He rolled his eyes with a smirk and held out his hand.
"Do you trust me?" He asked
She smiled with a little blush as she took his hand.
"Yes." She said
He helped her mount on his broom before taking off in the sky. They passed a few towns before they reached the lagoon where the picnic basket was set. This really shocked Vanessa as she wasn't expecting this.
"Is this a date, Hunter?" She asked
"I hope you don't mind." He smiled "Jordan and Pandora helped me with this. Is this okay?"
She nodded with a smile and helped him set up the picnic blanket. She had only dated once and that was with a wizard from Drumstrang. He was a year older than him as she was eleven. They dated a few weeks during the summer time before they peacefully broke up.
So far the date was going well. The food was great and they told each other about themselves. Even though she was enjoying herself she was feeling a bit guilty when Artism came into her mind.
"Who's Artism?" He asked
"Huh?" She said
"You muttered a guy's name Artism? Who's he?" He asked
"He's...he's one of my best friends." She smiled "He's the kindest person ever and shares the same passion as I do about Magical Creatures."
From how she described him with a smile and adoration in her eyes Hunter was starting to feel a little jealous.
"Um...do you...like him?" He asked
"Well of course, he's my best friend." She smiled
"No, I mean...Do you like him...more than...a friend?" He asked
He wanted...no...he needed to know if this guy was competition for Vanessa. The question made Vanessa think and she wasn't sure. A part of her did actually like him more than just a friend but wasn't sure how he felt.
"I...I don't know." She whispered
"Well...I hope you will give me a chance." He smiled "And maybe...would you like to go to the Coronation with me?"
She smiled and nodded yes before the two continued their picnic.

After the weekend had passed and it was near the end of the second week. In their Redeem Goodness 101 class the VK's got a surprise from Fairy Godmother.
"Children, excuse me. Um...As you know this Sunday is Family Day here at Auradon Prep." Fairy Godmother smiled "And because your parents can't be here due to distance, we've arranged for a special treat."
She walked up towards the flat-screen computer and after turning it on their parents appeared on screen. The VK's were all excited except for Hunter as he didn't see Hades around. Though that would be a big surprise if Maleficent did let him. He and Mal had to hold back a laugh when their mother couldn't figure how to work the computer. It wasn't until she pressed the right button on the remote.
"Oh. Evie, it's mommy." Evil Queen smiled "Look how beautiful. You know what they say, the poison apple doesn't fall far from the tree."
"Don't you mean weeds." Maleficent muttered
"Who's the old bat?" Curella asked, pointing at Fairy Godmother
"This is Fairy Godmother." Mal said
This made Maleficent start bashing Fairy Godmother about her magic with Cinderella. That was until Mal and Hunter stop it and gesture the headmistress to the side so they could talk to them.
"Hi mom." Mal said with a smile.
"Mal! Hunter!" Maleficent said with a fake smile. "I have missed you two."
"You children are never far from our thoughts." Jafar said
"How long must Mommy wait to see you?" Maleficent asked with a fake pout.
"Well, there's a big Coronation coming up." Hunter replied "I think probably sometime after that."
"When?" Maleficent asked
"Friday, 10:00 am." Mal said
"You sure I can't see you before that?" Maleficent asked "I don't know what I'll do if I don't get my hands on that magic...You, you little nuggets that I love so much."
Hunter had to stop himself from rolling his eyes. You can see where Mal gets her impatiens from.
"Yes, I completely understand, Mother." Mal said
Then Curella noticed Dude in Carlos' arms and commented that his fur would make wonderful earmuffs. This comment got Carlos to finally stand up to his mother. Jafar laughed at this and the two villains bash each other to the point that Jay had to turn the computer off.
"I'm so sorry." Fairy Godmother said, feeling guilty that it didn't turn out well.
"It's okay. Thanks for the special treat." Hunter smiled
"Of course." Fairy Godmother nodded
They grabbed the backpacks and headed out for Brunch. They knew that if they don't hurry up with the plan or they'll have to face their parents' wrath. That night they walked over with the plan that Hunter cooked up. Everyone was given a job and knew what they had to do when the day came. They understood but neither of them wanted to steal the wand and betray Ben and Vanessa. Hunter and Mal were taking it harder than the others as they were involved with them. Mal was even trying to figure out how to break the love spell so Ben wouldn't still be in love with her when the barrier is broken. With Hunter, he wasn't sure what to do. He didn't place a love spell on her like Mal did for Ben. She wasn't in love with him but there is something between them. Unlike with the girls on the Isle he actually cared for her and didn't want to hurt her.

Sunday came and it was Family day. Ben and a few other Auradon students sang 'Be Our Guest' to greet the parents. Vanessa counted her blessing that she didn't have to perform the song with them. She just enjoyed watching them with the VK's. While she had to take a picture with her family Hunter and Mal had to pull Jay and Carlos away from the chocolate fountain that they found.
"Oh, by the way, I have a new girlfriend." Ben smiled
Adam and Bell were actually excited to hear that.
"Well, I never wanted to say anything, but I always thought that Audrey was a little self-absorbed with the fake smile and kind of a kiss-up." Bell said
"I was the only one that was brave enough to call her out on it." Vanessa said
"Do we know your new girlfriend?" Adam asked
"Oh, yes you do." Vanessa smirked "And I started dating someone as well."
"What?/Really?" Adam and Bell both said in surprise.
Well Bell was happy to hear it while Adam didn't look happy about it.
"Is it Aramis dear?" Bell whispered
"Well...no…" Vanessa said
"They're actually here right now. Mal. Hunter." Ben smiled
This got Bell and Adam to both frown in shock. Hunter and Mal hurried over to Ben and Vanessa to greet their parents.
"This is Mal." Ben smiled "From the island. My Girlfriend."
"And this is Hunter." Vanessa smiled "Her brother and we started just dating."
"Hi." Bell and Adam said with tension.
"Hi." Hunter and Mal said with nervousness.
Boy, you could cut the tension here with a knife. Ben had invited them and the rest of the VK's to Lunch but Adam suggested a game of croquet first before lunch. Everything was going well so far besides the glare Adam kept shooting at Hunter for being too close to Vanessa. Then things went south when Audrey told her grandmother, Queen Leah, that Mal and Hunter are Maleficent's children.
"Queen Leah, it's okay. Maleficent is still on the island." Ben said "This is her daughter, Mal and her son, Hunter. Don't you remember my proclamation to give the new generation a chance?"
"A chance to what, Ben?" Leah asked in disbelief "Destroy us? Come on, you remember, don't you? The poison apples. And the spells. Spells. My daughter was raised by fairies because of your mothers' curse. So, her first words, her first steps, I missed it all!"
"You can't blame her children for what their mother did." Vanessa glared
"Oh come off it, Vanessa." Chad glared "You don't know them. They were raised by their parents. What do you think Villains teach their kids? Huh? Kindness? Play fair?" He looked at Mal. "You stole another girl's boyfriend." He looked at Jay. "You enjoy hurting people." Then he looked at Evie. "And you, you're nothing but a gold digger and a cheater."
"Don't you dare call her that or say anything else about them. You think you're better than them just because your parents are royalty. Well, guess what, you're just as bad as the villains on the Isle." Vanessa glared as she pushed him. "You are just vain as Gaston and play with women's affections to your advantage. I happen to have proof that you used all the girls you dated to do your own homework, just like how you used Evie."
Her anger was so high right now that dark clouds started to form in the sky and the wind started to pick up.
"Vanessa." Evie whispered
"Listen here, you…" Chad said
He stopped when he saw his hand got blotted. Then his whole body started blotting up so much that he was being lifted in the air. Audrey tried to pull him down but it was no use and he floated in the air. The spoiled princess glared at the witch princess and stomped towards her.
"How dare you!" Audrey glared
"Oh don't start with me Audrey, you're just as bad as him, if not worse." Vanessa hissed
Her started eyes glowed red as thunder was heard and it frightened everyone.
"Vanessa, that's enough." Adam said
She looked at him with disbelief as she started to hear his mind. He was actually blaming her and Ben for bringing the VK's here and knew this would happen.
"You're on their side." Vanessa whispered with tears in her eyes. "You actual blame us for this when it's them that started this."
"Vanessa..." Adam said
He tried to reach for her but she stepped back. She gave him a hateful glare that made his heartache before running away. Hunter followed after her to make sure that she was okay. Bell looked at her husband with disappointment before following them. Mal, Evie, Jay and Carlos wanted to follow too but knew she needed Hunter. Though they couldn't help but feel guilty as she was standing up for them when they were going to betray her and Auradon.
Vanessa stopped by a large oak tree as she was trying to calm herself down. Her vampire side was in so much rage that she wanted to get out. Though, she had to admit that reading her father's thoughts was a new ability, even with the medallion on.
"Hey."
She turned around and saw Hunter standing next to her. He wasn't sure what to do as he never had to cheer anyone up, not even Mal but he felt that he needed to for her.
"I'm sorry that you had to see me like this." She said
"Well this is the first I ever seen you cry, I just wish I knew what to do to make you feel better." He smiled
"A hug would be nice." She smiled
She didn't need to tell him twice. Hunter quickly wrapped his arms around her and embraced her.
"Why can't they all just see? Why can't they just give you all a chance?" She whispered
Hunter's heart kept aching from guilt by her words. He didn't want to lose her or her trust.
"They don't have enough kindness in their hearts as you do, Vanessa." He said
Far away Bell saw the scene and couldn't help but smile. Even though she prefers Aramis over Hunter, the VK boy seems to make her daughter happy.

When night appeared Vanessa was getting ready for bed. After the party Lupin told her that the ministry had fixed Chad and obliviated his and everyone else's memories of what she did. At first she thought she was in trouble but it turns out a lot of witches and wizards do it by accident so she wasn't. Right now, she just wanted to get to bed and forget the day but before she could someone knocked on the door and it turned out to be her father.
"Vanessa, I think we need to talk." He said before shutting the door.
She glared at him with her arms crossed and sat on her bed.
"Fine. But if it's to apologize to Chad and Audrey there's no way that's happening." She said "I'm still mad at you for what you thought."
"I...I am truly sorry for thinking that, Vanessa. But I told you and Ben that this wasn't going to be easy." Adam said
"You could have stood up with us, but you ended up agreeing with that heartless bi…" Vanessa glared
"Lauganage, young lady." Adam scowled
"Well she is." She huffed
"Trust me, you're not the only one that thinks that of her. And you are right. It was wrong of me to side with them, when it could've been me on that Island if your mother didn't give me a second chance." He said "Please forgive me for what I said."
His words made her soften and she quickly hugged him.
"I love you, you know that. You'll always be my little princess." He whispered
"I love you too dad." She smiled
He smiled and tightened his hug around her.
"Um about Hunter...you're not really dating him...are you?" He asked
"Dad." She chuckled
