Chapter Twenty-Two: Slytherin friend, Quidditch and a Duel, oh my.
After a few days had passed and it was time for hogwarts first Quidditch game: Slytherin vs Gryffindor. Everyone in Gryffindor were nervous as Slytherin the Nimbus 2001 brooms, curitusy of the Malfoy brothers father for getting Draco on the team. Thanks to those brooms Gryffindor wouldn't do that well. Everyone was on edge and Oliver was becoming his worse self again by pushing everyone harder. Vanessa was able to get some free time away from the quidditch obsessed maniac, but only to get her potion homework done. She was in the study hall with some other kids that were also trying to finish their work and Professor Snape was watching over.
"Vanessa. Vanessa."
Whispering to her side was Dawn Nightshade, a fourth year Slytherin. She had long black shaggy hair, hazel brown eyes, an american pureblood witch and was a bit of a rule breaker at times. The young girl was the only Slytherin that didn't act like a Slytherin. She even helped the twins get in Slytherins commander room at times for a prank.
"What?" Vanessa asked
Then her eyes widened when she saw her cauldron turning blue, and the bubbles were getting bigger and bigger.
"What did you do?" Vanessa asked
"I wanted to try something different and...this happened." Dawn said
The two girls ducked under the table when the bubbles got bigger and it exploded blue goo when Snape turned around. It got all over the professor and almost everyone in the room.
"50 points taken from Gryffindor and Slytherin." Snape glared as he whipped the goo off his face. "And two weeks of detention, Ms. Potter and Ms. Nightshade."
"Yes professor." Vaness and Dawn said
When he turned away the two girls let out a little snickers but stopped when he looked back. He walked away again and they silently laughed. Yes, they were in trouble but they had to admit that was funny. It was enough to ease Vanessa's mind a little.
"Thanks a lot Nightshade." Gwynn Parkison sneered "Merlin, I can't believe she is in our house."
Gwynn was the older sister of Pansy Parkison and was a pureblood Slytherin too that looked down at everyone.
"Then again, look who she associates with." Gwynn scoffs "Potter, of all people."
She and her copycat friends scoff before they start mumbling badly about Dawn. Vanessa heard and with a wave her wand she some of the goo splatter on them. They all screeched in disgust and horror. The classroom all laughed at their misfortune while Dawn looked at Vanessa in gratitude.
"Sorry about detention, Vanessa." Dawn said as she scrubbed the floors. "I tried telling Snape that it was my fault but he wouldn't listen."
Their first detention was to clean the classroom the muggle way and it was a lot harder by hand.
"It's alright, Dawn. I was surprised myself that Snape actually took points from his own house." She said, as she was scrubbing too.
"Do some of the Gryffindors' think I did it on purpose?" Dawn asked
Vanessa could only nod. They only blamed her because the quidditch game was in two weeks but Vanessa didn't. Dawn looked around to make sure that Snape or Flich was around.
"Looks like the guards are gone. How about we wrap this up quickly?" Dawn smiled and took out her wand. "You wouldn't happen to know any cleaning spells or charms?"
"I know of one spell." Vanessa smirked
She could think of the charm that Merlin had shown her and Malcome. The witch princess stood next to the slytherin girl and showed her the charm. The girl was a bit baffled but knew Vanessa was one of the wisest witches she knew.
"Ready?" Vanessa asked
"Ready." Dawn nodded
The girls waved their wands the right way and said the enchantment.

Rubity, scrubity, sweepity
Flu'
Within seconds the cleaning supplies started moving by themselves and started cleaning the mess.
"Wow, where did you learn that from?" Dawn asked
"Malcomes' great grand uncle taught us when we made a mess in the kitchen of his castle." Vanessa replied
Barking was heard and the two saw Dude coming in the room.
"Hey, Dude. What are you doing out here?" Vanessa smiled and picked him up. "Chasing and bugging Mrs. Norris again."
Dude barked again in agreement, making the girls laugh.
"Such a cute Crup." Dawn smiled and scratched his ear. "I always love dogs. My mom used to tell me that I get it from my dad."
"Who was he?" Vanessa asked
"I really don't know. I never met him. But he was an English man." Dawn said "His family was all in Slytherin and...and that's the only reason I chose the house. I just wanted some connection to him. The truth is I've always wanted to be in Gryffindor." Then she sat down. "Maybe I would have friends there."
Vanessa sat down next to her and nudged her shoulder with hers.
"Well, we can be friends if you want." Vanessa said and stuck out her hand. "Hi, I'm Vanessa Elenor Potter."
Dawn shook her head with a chuckle and shook the princess's hand.
"Dawn Andromeda Nightshade." Dawn replied
While the cleaning supplies continued on cleaning the girls started talking about things that they liked and disliked. When the supplies were almost done the girls even planned on a prank on Gwynn and her clone squad for tomorrow.

Two weeks have passed and the Quidditch game has begun. Vanessa, Angelina and Katie were doing the best they can but the score was still 30 for Gryffindor and 90 for Slytherin. Vanessa was able to catch the quaffle and went to score. Fred saw a bludger shooting towards her and he hit it away from her. She and Katie were able to toss the quaffle back and forth before they could score. The princess witch nearly stopped when she saw the bludger going after Harry this time.
At the benches is where Vanessa's family and the VK's were watching the game. They all noticed the same bludger going after both Harry and Vanessa.
"Someone has tampered with the bludger." Ben said before putting down his binoculars.
Mal took out her mother's spell book, thinking she could stop it. Before she could Hunter stopped her.
"Don't. Even with wandless magic, it can be too risky." He whispered "As good as you are there's a change you might hit one of them."
Harry did his best to fly away from the bludger and when he finally got away he spotted the Snitch. It was right next to Draco and the Malfoy boy didn't even notice. So when the rogue bludger came back Harry took off after it. Draco quickly followed after him when he noticed the Snitch too. They both dive under the beams and they raced for the Snitch. To Draco's surprise Harry's Nimbus 2000 was still faster than his 2001. They raced a lap under the quidditch pitch with the bludger still after them and it was getting closer and closer each moment. It even made a surprise turn around that distracted Draco and got him knocked off his broom. Luca stopped for a moment to make sure his brother was okay before shaking his head. He knew his brother got too cocky and now he's paying for it.
Harry was back on the Snitch trail and nearly caught it but the rogue bludger came and ended up breaking his arm. That didn't stop him though. With great balance he used his other hand and was able to catch the Snitch before falling to the ground. Adam, Bell, Ben and others quickly walked out of the bleachers to see if he's okay.
"Harry Potter has caught the Snitch. Gryffindor wins!" Jordan announced
Everyone cheered but it stopped when the bludger came back and tried to hit him again and again. Luckily for him Hermione quickly used her wand to explode the bludger.
"Thank you." Harry said
"Oh Harry dear, are you alright?" Bell asked in worriness.
"No. I think my arm is broken." He said
Lockhart quickly came by and kneel in front of Harry.
"Not to worry, Harry. I will fix that arm of your straightaway." He said
"No. Not you." Harry whispered in fear.
"I agree we should take him to the Hospital wing." Bell said
"Don't worry, Madam, the boy doesn't know what he's saying." Lockhart said before taking Harry's broken arm. "Now. This won't hurt a bit."
Ben and Adam looked at each other, a bit worried. Lockart took out his wand and pointed it at the broken arm.
"Brackium Emendo!" He incarnated
When it was done all of Harry's bones from his arm were gone. Bell nearly fainted at the sight.
"Yes, well, that can sometimes happen...um...but the point is...uh...you can no longer feel any pain, and very clearly, the bones are not broken." Lockhart said
"Broken?! He has no bones at all." Adam glared
Lockhart quickly backed away when Adam looked like he was gonna attack him but luckily Ben and Hagrid stopped him. Vanessa, who was still up in the air with the teams, watching the scene. The princess couldn't help but sigh in annoyance at what the buffoon teacher did.
"And that's our teacher." Luca sighed in annoyance.
Vanessa, who was close to him, nodded in agreement.
Ben, Wood and the rest of the team took him to the infirmary to see Madam Pomfrey while the Slytherins' did the same for Draco.
Boy, was she mad when she heard about what happened.
"Out of my way. Out of my way. You should have been brought straight to me." She said as she helped some kind of potion. "I can mend bones in a heartbeat, but growing them back…"
"You will be able to, won't you?" Vanessa asked
"Oh I'll be able to, certainly. But it'll be painful." Madam Pomfrey said as she poured the potion in a glass. "You're in for a rough night, Potter. Regrowing bones is a nasty business."
When she gave him the glass he took a sip before spitting it out.
"What do you expect? Pumpkin juice?" Madam Pomfrey scowled
Once Harry was able to keep the potion down Madam Pomfrey had ordered him to change as he was gonna spend the night there. After saying her good-byes to her family and friends Vanessa sat down to keep Harry company with Dude. Well more like making sure Professor Lockhart doesn't bother her cousin anymore. Right now they were in the middle of wizard chess. Vanessa was reading another page of their Grandmothers', Victoria, diary while waiting for Harry to make his move. Dude was laying down right next to Harry's side.
"What are you reading, Vanessa?" He asked
"Dude found this last month before I had to go to Auradon. This happens to be our grandmothers' diary when she transferred to Hogwarts." Vanessa smiled
"Really? Who was she? What was she like?" He asked
"Well, her name was Victoria Tepes. She lived in the countryside of Translyania, Romiana. First girl Chaser on her team. One of the best students in all the classes. And get this she was in Slytherin." She said
"You're kidding right." He said in shock.
She smiled as she showed him the picture of their grandmother. His eyes widened when he saw the Slytherin crest of Victoria's uniform. Not only for this but was a little shocked on how much Vanessa looked like her.
"Wow." He whispered
"I know right. It kind of makes sense now why both you and I were almost sorted in Slytherin." She smiled and returned back to her page. "She wasn't afraid of breaking tradition as she made friends with other housemates; even with Gryffindor. Actually she wasn't afraid at all, and was very kind to all beings and creatures."
"That sounds like you." Harry said "You did befriend that Slytherin girl Nightshade."
She shook her head and pinched his ear.
"Ow." Harry groaned
"Be nice. Believe it or not Dawn is a nice person." Vanessa said "And has very good ideas for pranks."
Harry didn't know what to believe as he had never met a nice Slytherin before. But seeing how his grandmother was a Slytherin maybe it is possible.

On Saturday night there was another attack. It was a first year Gryffindor Colin Creevey. Harry was the only one that knew about since he was awake when the professors brought the boy in the infirmary. No one else knew until Monday when the rumors spread. Now most students were in fear and all the first years were walking in groups.
When December came by there was a board hanging up in the Great Hall. The school was starting a Dueling Club. Almost everyone joined believing that it could come in handy. The only down part was that it was being taught by Gilderoy Lockhart.
"You gotta be kidding me." Vanessa sighed in annoyance.
"Is it too late to quit." Dawn asked
"I'm afraid so." Rain sighed
Lockhart walked onto the stage and waved an arm for silence.
"Gather round, gather around! Can everyone see me? Can you all hear me? Excellent!" He smiled "Now, Professor Dumbledore has granted me permission to start this little dueling club, to train you all in case you ever need to defend yourselves as I myself have done on countless occasions...for full details, see my published works."
He took off his cape and tossed in the crowd. The three girls couldn't believe how the female students were fighting over his cape.
"Now, let me introduce my assistant, Professor Snape." Lockhart smiled. "He tells me he knows a tiny little bit about dueling himself and has sportingly agreed to help me with a short demonstration before we begin. Now, I don't want any of you youngsters to worry...you'll still have your Potions master when I'm through with him, never fear!"
"Ten Sickles say that Snape knocks him off his arse in one hit." Malcome whispered to Artemis.
Artemis just laughed, not taking the bet. Even he knew that Lockhart was the weakest Professor ever.
The two professors turned to face each other and bowed a little. Then they raised their wands like swords in front of them before turning around and took a few steps away. They turned towards each other again and did a stance.
"As you see, we are holding our wands in the accepted combative position." Lockhart announced. "On the count of three, we will cast our first spells. Neither of us will be aiming to kill, of course."
"Something tells me that Snape might." Dawn whispers to Vanessa.
Vanessa couldn't help but nod in agreement. Everyone knew that every professor wanted to take Lockhart down.
"One...two...three…"
"Expelliarmus!" Snape incarnated
A dazzling flash of scarlet light hit Lockhart and nearly knocked him off the stage. Most of the male students laughed while the female (minus Vanessa, Rain and Dawn) looked worried for him. Lockhart was getting unsteadily to his feet.
"Yes, an excellent idea to show them that, Professor Snape, but if you don't mind me saying so, it was very obvious what you were about to do." Lockhart said "If I had wanted to stop you it would have been only too easy...however, I felt it would be instructive to them see…"
When he saw the murderous look in Snapes he decided to place everyone in pairs. Vanessa tried to pair with her friends but they were already paired up with each other. She tried to find someone else but no one would pair up with her. Everyone knew Vanessa was the best and didn't want to face her.
"Ms. Potter you will be paired off with Lucas Malfoy." Snape said
Lucas smirked as he strutted over towards her.
"Don't expect me to go easy on you, love." Lucas winked
"Back at ya." Vanessa said
"Face your partners! Bow! Wands at the ready!" Lockhart called "When I count to three, cast your charms to Disarm your opponents...only to disarm them...we don't want any accident here. One...two...three…"
"Expelliarmus!" Lucas yelled
Vanessa easily dodged it.
"Ebublio!" Vanessa casted
Lucas used a spell to deflect it.
"Is that the best you can do?" He smirked and sent a ball of fire at her.
The two continued on casting spells and dodging them. Not once were they able to hit each other. She hit him with the Aguamenti spell and it hit him in the face. Vanessa couldn't help but laugh and this angered Lucas. So he created a large amount of fire that took the form of a serpent and sent it towards her. Acting quickly Vanessa created a large amount of water that took the form of a dragon and directed it towards Lucas. The two forms collided with each other. Luca lifted up his wand to increase the amount of fire while Vanessa did the same. The two elements fought for dominance and that's when Vanessa's hair started turning white. Her powers were increasing and her water dragon was getting bigger and destroyed the fiery snake and knocked down Lucas.
"Expelliarmus." She whispered and it knocked out his wand out of his hand.
"Yeah! Take that Slytherin!" Fred and George cheered
Everyone (minus Slytherin) cheered for Vanessa's victory. Turns out that everyone stopped and watched the two duel. Even Snape looked impressed. Lucas got up with a scowl as he couldn't believe that he lost like that. He would have started another duel but one look from Snape made him back off. Seeing that the two were already advanced he the two help the others out. The next duel that everyone was watching was Harry and Dracos' as Snape paired them up too. Before Lockhart could get to two Draco quickly cast a spell first and hit Harry. The Gryffindor boy stumbled up and pointed his wand straight at Malfoy.
"Rictusempra!" Harry shouted
The spell hit Draco with a flip and landed in front of his brother. Lucas rolled his eyes and pulled him up before pushing him back towards his dueling area.
"I said to disarm only." Lockhart mentioned.
"Serpensortia!" Malfoy yelled
A long snake shot out of it, fell heavily onto the floor between them, and raised itself, ready to strike. There were screams as the crowd backed away.
"Don't move, Potter." Snape said "I'll get rid of it for you."
Before he could do anything Lockhart stepped in to do it himself. He said a spell and all it did was shoot the snake ten feet into the air but it fell back down. The snake hissed in anger and was about to take it's anger out on the first person it saw, which was a second year Hufflepuff Justin Finch-Fletchley. Vanessa was about to do something until Harry stepped up and started speaking to the snake, in Parselmouth. This shocked everyone, including Vanessa herself. She didn't know he could do that. Harry talked to snake for a few minutes until Snape had enough and destroyed the snake.
"What do you think you're playing at?" Justin asked in anger.
Harry noticed the look everyone gave and saw that it wasn't in awe but with distrust and confused.
