Ch 11: Visit to Martha's
Morning came and the sky was surprisingly clear. Radley woke up and looked over at Kalin. The blue-haired man was still snoozing away.
Radley chuckled softly and settled down to doze again. Ten minutes later, Kalin opened his eyes and stretched.
"Oh, it's morning already..."
Radley chuckled. "It creeps up fast."
"I know. But did you sleep well?"
"I did," Radley smiled. "And you?"
"Yes, I did," Kalin nodded.
"Good," Radley smiled.
"Perhaps we should get up now," Kalin said as he got up and went to brush his teeth.
"Yeah." Radley headed for the kitchen.
Kalin went to the office to get the paperwork for the taser, as well as the device itself. Radley would have breakfast ready when he got back. When Kalin was ready, he slowly walked down to the kitchen.
"Is everything set?" Radley smiled.
"We need to get the cat food first."
"Right! Okay, we'll do that after breakfast," Radley said.
"What time should we go to the City?"
"Were we going in or did they all stay over since it was late?" Radley mused.
"I have no idea honestly," shrugged Kalin. "Let's call Yusei." He dialed Yusei's phone number.
Yusei answered. "Hey, Kalin!"
"Hey Yusei. Did you and the others go back to the City last night?"
"We stayed in town since it was late," Yusei said.
"Oh, you're in town? Did you go to the inn?"
"Yeah, we did. It's nice here," Yusei said.
"I know. I've come to appreciate it after Lawton was defeated."
"I'm glad we all have," Yusei said.
"How's Bruno doing?"
"He's great."
Monkey meowed in the background.
"Hmm? Is that Monkey? Speaking of which, we got treats for him."
"Yeah, it is. He'll be ecstatic!" Yusei chuckled.
"And I also have the taser prepared for Bruno. I hope he doesn't mind the Western-theme of it."
"That will fascinate him," Yusei said.
"Radley and I are ready to come over whenever you're ready."
"Great! We're ready too," Yusei said. "Maybe come after breakfast?" He assumed they were having it.
"Sure. Radley and I are actually eating breakfast right now. What about you and Bruno?"
"We are too," Yusei said.
"Alright. Well, see you three shortly."
Radley is peacefully eating and listening.
"Anything you want to say before we end the call?"
"Hi," Radley greeted. "Looking forward to seeing you guys!"
"Same here," Yusei said.
"Me three," said Kalin. "I think I'm done with breakfast now."
Radley ate a little more before finishing.
"You're finished too, Radley?"
"Yeah. The Bunch is coming," Radley noted, hearing the motorcycles.
"Right. Let's get going." Kalin got up and put on his trenchcoat.
Radley went out with him as they arrived. "Hi, guys."
"Hey!" Scotch grinned.
"Sleep well last night, guys?"
"Yeah!" they chorused.
"Are we ready to go to the inn and see Yusei?"
"Let's go!" Scotch said.
Kalin, Radley, and the Bunch all head towards the inn.
The twins were eating in the dining room. They hurried over to say hi when the others arrived.
"Hey everyone. Enjoying your stay?" asked Kalin.
"Yeah! The food's so great!" Leo exclaimed.
"Yes, Radley got talent," smiled Kalin as he placed the box containing the taser and the bag of cat treats on the table.
Radley smiled, pleased.
The others came over. "Hey, guys," Yusei smiled.
"Hey Yusei, everyone," smiled Kalin. "Oh, Bruno, I got your taser and treats for Monkey."
"Great! Thanks!" Bruno exclaimed. Monkey meowed in approval
"Alright, please read the document thoroughly."
"Right!" Bruno started looking it over.
"How are doing today, Monkey?" Kalin asked the cat.
Monkey meowed and purred.
"You sound happy, Monkey. I wonder how the treats taste?" smiled Kalin as he petted the cat.
Monkey purred as he ate.
"Looks like they're yummy!" Bruno said.
"You're welcome, Monkey. You may come by our pet store anytime for more."
Monkey finished and rubbed Kalin.
"Aww, how cute," Radley smiled.
"How adorable! Monkey loves you!" winked Akiza.
"He says 'Thank You!'" Bruno said.
"Glad you enjoyed the treats, Monkey," smiled Kalin. "Say, Bruno, are you done going over the paperwork?"
"Yeah! Everything makes sense to me!" Bruno said.
"Good," nodded Kalin as he took the papers. "Alright, here's your gift. Take care of it." He handed Bruno the box holding the taser.
"Thanks! I sure will!" Bruno promised.
"I still don't understand why you need that," said Jack.
"Maybe I won't! But I still think it's cool," Bruno said.
"I have my own as well. I don't use it much, but it's there for emergency," said Kalin.
"It's good to be prepared," Radley agreed.
"Yeah, that's right," nodded Crow.
"What else are we doing today?" asked Leo.
"Anything you like," Radley said grandly.
"How about we go to the City and visit Martha?" suggested Luna.
"Yeah!" Leo cheered.
"What do say, Yusei?" asked Luna.
"Let's do it," Yusei smiled.
"Yeah! Let's go!" cheered Leo.
"I'm calling Jordan to see if West and Nico can join us," said Kalin as he dialed a number.
Jordan answered. "Hello?"
"Hey Jordan. It's me, Kalin. I'm going to the City today and I was wondering if you, Nico, and West would like to join us?"
"Yes, that sounds nice," Jordan smiled as West and Nico looked at each other excitedly.
"Alright, see you at Yusei's house," replied Kalin. He hung up and got ready to leave.
Everyone else prepared to go too.
The ride to the City was pleasant, with no traffic or strange encounters hindering them. Radley was glad of that. They soon arrived at Yusei's. Jordan pulled up before long
"Hey guys!" waved West as he dashed out of the car.
"Hi!" Radley smiled.
"Hi, Kalin," Nico smiled.
"Hi Nico. Glad your family could join us," said Kalin.
"Me too!" Nico said.
"Same here!" nodded West. "What are going to do today?"
"The plan is to visit Martha, so maybe the kids will want to play?" Yusei said.
"I would love to meet her!" nodded Nico.
"Let's go over," Yusei smiled.
They all got in their vehicles and drove over to Martha's place.
There were kids were playing in the yard in front of Martha's home When they saw Yusei and Team 5Ds, they stopped and hurried over. "Hiiii!" they all yelled.
"Hi there!" waved back Nico and West.
"Do you want to play with us?!" they asked.
"Yeah!" Leo said.
Martha came out, smiling. "Hello!" She went over to them.
"I'd love to!" smiled Luna.
"Hey Martha! What's up?" asked Crow.
The kids all started to play.
"Oh, just a regular day," Martha smiled. "How have all of you been? You don't come around nearly often enough."
"We've been fine," said Jack. "Just really busy trying to solve a mystery.
"Really? What kind of mystery?" Martha asked.
"It involves magic gems that can open portals to the Spirit World," replied Crow.
"That sounds concerning," Martha frowned.
"We arrested some people, but we've been waiting for a follow-up report," said Crow.
"Hopefully it will wrap up soon for you," Martha said.
"Yeah same here," nodded Crow. "In the meantime, how ya've been doing, Martha?"
"Very well," Martha smiled. "The kids are happy and there's always so much to do."
"That's cool, Martha!" grinned Crow. "The whole team wanted to come over!"
"It's about time they all came!" Martha said. "Hello, everyone! I'm very glad to finally meet all of you!"
"Hello, Martha. It's been a while!" smiled Akiza.
"I brought some visitors from Satisfaction Town," added Kalin.
They all said 'Hello'.
"I've heard so much about all of you!" Martha said.
"Wow, really, you did?" asked West in surprise. "Kalin and Radley really helped the town grow!"
"Crow and Yusei talk about all of you," Martha chuckled.
"They do?" asked Nico.
"Would you like to visit Satisfaction Town some time?" asked Kalin.
"Of course!" Martha said. "And we'd love to!"
The kids cheered.
"It's really prosperous now!" said Nico.
"I know! You've all worked so hard," Martha said.
"Radley is the best mayor, and Kalin is the best sheriff!" grinned West.
Radley smiled, pleased.
"Well, come and tell me more!" Martha said.
"You should eat at Radley's Diner! Everyone here loves it!" smiled West.
"I'll be sure to do that!" Martha said.
"Is there chocolate?!" one of the kids exclaimed.
"Yes, there is," nodded Nico.
"And a karaoke bar as well," smiled Kalin.
"What's karaoke?" one kid asked.
"It's where you stand on a stage and sing to a song," said Kalin. "Um, Radley and the Bunch are better at explaining it than me, to be honest."
"It's instrumental music!" Scotch said.
"That sounds fun," a girl said.
"The food is great too!" grinned Leo.
"What kind of food?" a girl asked. "Martha makes yummy food too!"
"They make Spanish and Mexican food, like pasta!" explained Leo.
"I thought pasta was Italian?" West said.
"Oh, right..." sighed Leo. "I got confused."
"All the food is good!" Luna said.
"You are all welcome to come and try," smiled Kalin.
"We will," Martha smiled.
The kids cheered.
"The kids are cheerful as ever," chuckled Jack.
"Hey, Bruno, have you ever met Martha before?" asked Luna.
"Yusei brought me to meet her!" Bruno said cheerfully.
"What does she think of you?" asked Nico.
"We get along great!" Bruno said.
"How about Monkey?" asked Luna.
"Him too!" Bruno said. "He's a big hit with the kids!"
"Did you bring your cat today?" asked a girl.
"I sure did!" Bruno brought out Monkey, who meowed.
"Cat!" cheered the kids as they went over to pet Monkey.
"Wow, he sure loves attention," stated Kalin.
Monkey purred and rubbed them all.
"He sure does!" Bruno said.
The kids all smiled at Monkey's friendliness. Team 5ds were all amused and touched by the scene. Scotch snapped pictures. The kids and the team all posed together. Monkey happily climbed on people to pose too. The kids giggle at how playful the cat was.
"I wonder how Bruno trained Monkey so well?" Kalin asked Yusei.
"He was very friendly when we took him in," Yusei said. "Bruno didn't do much."
"Hmm, that's interesting. So, how did he become his pet?"
"Bruno saved his life and later went back looking for him," Yusei said. "Monkey came right out and wanted to be with him."
"Wow! He was a real hero even back then?" gushed West.
"He sure was," Yusei said. "He got amnesia the first time because he was protecting Monkey and was hurt."
"Amnesia never a good thing," frowned Kalin. "And the incident where those thieves tried to steal your tech was what it took to bring his memories back."
"The second time," Bruno agreed.
"What inspired you to become a superhero?" asked West.
"Well ... I guess originally it was my programming," Bruno said. "But as I became more human, it was Yusei."
"Yusei is an inspiration to everyone!" smiled Luna.
"Yes, it was thanks to him that I put aside my past," smiled Kalin. "And that powers of darkness can be used for good."
Yusei smiled. "I'm glad I could make a difference. But you guys still had to make the choices yourselves."
"That's true. At first, I didn't want to be a Psychic Duelist after what I did. But now, I see it as a gift "
"So do I," Akiza said.
"That's great," Yusei said.
"And my ability to travel to the Spirit World," smiled Luna.
"What's that?" a girl asked.
"It's a mysterious place where Duel Monsters live," said Luna.
"That sounds scary," the girl said.
"Yes, but there are actually some monsters who are nice!" smiled Luna.
"That would be fun!" the girl said.
"Fun?" asked Jack in confusion.
"If any bad ones come here, we want you kids to go inside right away," said Luna.
"Nice monsters would be fun! Not mean ones," the kid said.
"There shouldn't be any real monsters here, should there?" Martha frowned.
"Some people were caught using magical gems that could open portals," said Crow. "Those portals summoned bad monsters."
"And where are the gems now?" Martha frowned.
"With us," said Kalin bluntly.
"Then there shouldn't be any more danger," Martha said.
"We're still waiting for the results from the suspects," said Crow.
"I see," Martha said.
The kids were all playing still.
"How long do we have to continue waiting?" asked Leo.
"He thought it could take months. Let's hope not," Radley said.
"Same here," sighed Kalin.
"It'll probably be sooner!" Bruno said cheerfully.
"Let's hope so! Then we can really celebrate the New Year!" smiled Leo.
"That would be fun," Luna smiled.
"What should we do in the meantime?" asked Leo.
"Plan for New Year's!" Scotch said.
"Ok!" exclaimed Leo. "My New Year resolution is to get better at tricks on my Duel Board!"
"I'm going to eat donuts every day!" Scotch said.
"Aren't you going to get fat?" joked Crow. "Cause I'm trying to get the fastest time in the police training."
"Nah, I burn off calories!" Scotch said.
Radley smiled at Crow. "Oh? Good luck!"
"Err, whatever you say, Scotch," chuckled Crow.
"My goal is to regain my title as the King!" said Jack.
"That's your goal every year, isn't it?" Radley said.
"What's wrong with that?" asked Jack. "What's your wish anyway?"
"Hmm. Just to keep building up the town, I suppose," Radley mused.
"And I'll help you, Radley," nodded Kalin.
Radley smiled. "Then everything will be fine."
"What's your New Year's resolution, Yusei?" asked Kalin.
"Hmm. To keep following my dreams," Yusei said.
"Same here," nodded Akiza. "I want to continue helping people."
"That's always a good goal," Yusei said.
"What about you, Luna?" asked Akiza.
"I want to understand the Spirit World better," Luna said.
"That's a great goal. I wonder if it could help me learn healing magic?" pondered Akiza.
"It might!" Luna said.
"That's an interesting idea," said Kalin.
"There's probably healing Duel Monsters who could help!" Luna said.
"Speaking of which, perhaps they could help us learn who our true culprit is," said Kalin.
"I really think we found them all," Radley said. "Hopefully."
"Same here," nodded Crow.
"What's your resolution, Bruno?" asked West. "Mine is to help Radley and Kalin!"
"I'm going to protect the City and my friends," Bruno said.
"Awesome!" cheered West.
"My brother and I are going to continue rooting for you guys," smiled Nico.
"We're grateful for your support," Yusei smiled.
"I want to be like you and Kalin someday!" exclaimed West.
"Really? That's very nice," Radley smiled.
"Thanks West. That means a lot," smiled Kalin.
West beamed.
"Well, we're all about to have lunch," Martha said. "Join us!"
"Thanks Martha! You're the best mom ever!" grinned Crow.
Martha smiled. "And don't you forget it!"
She led everyone inside.
"It smells delicious in here," Radley said in approval.
"Wow, did you make this yourself?" gasped West.
"All the children helped," Martha said.
"Yeah, Martha always put us to work," Crow said.
"Thank you very much for inviting us here, Martha," smiled Akiza.
"We're always glad to have friends over," Martha smiled.
"What did you do for Christmas?" Jack asked Martha.
"We had a very nice Christmas helping others in the Satellite," Martha said. "Then we opened presents and had Christmas dinner."
"That sounds nice," said Akiza.
"Team 5Ds came over to Satisfaction Town and helped us decorate the diner. Then we made cards," explained Nico.
"That sounds fun too," a girl said.
"Do you kids want to make cards?" asked Crow.
"Yeah!" they exclaimed.
"Where's all the supplies kept?" asked Kalin.
"In a closet," Martha said. "We can get them out after lunch."
"Maybe you and the kids could visit Satisfaction Town sometime!" said West.
"That would be exciting for the children," Martha said. "Yes, we'll have to do that!"
"Thank you very much for the support, Martha," smiled Kalin.
"What is there to do there?" one girl asked hopefully.
"Singing and dancing!" said Nico.
"And we have animals!" West said.
"I love animals!" the girl said.
"We can show you the farms too!" said Nico.
"That would be great!" she beamed.
"When are we going?" asked a boy.
"Maybe in a day or two?" Martha said.
"I hope we can some info from the police during that period," said Kalin.
"Hopefully," Radley said.
Everyone soon finished Martha's meal.
"That was great!" Radley smiled.
"Yeah! It totally was!" grinned Carly.
Yusei's phone rang. "Hello?" He listened, relieved. "That's great! Thanks for letting us know."
He hung up. "The Brazilian government wants the gems. They're to be shipped back by tonight."
"Yes!" Scotch said.
"I wonder if we should be there at the airport in case anything goes wrong," Bruno said.
"That sounds like a good idea," said Akiza. "Since they are magical, anything can happen."
"I'm getting my equipment ready," said Crow as he got up to check on his Duel Runner."
"Be careful, all of you," Martha said in concern.
"Thanks Martha, we will!" nodded Jack.
