Surprise, Surprise, and a Happy New Year.

Never did I thought I would be writing on this fanfic so soon, considering I am working on other stories.

It may had something to do with binging on Love Live Superstars Season 2 that premiered last year.

Strangely enough, I never watched Love Live Nijigasaki and wondering if I should.

Right now, I am trying my organize my thoughts and post more chapters of my stories this year.

On another important matter, I also want to wish a Belated Happy Birthday to Kurosawa Dia, Koizumi Hanayo, and Nakasu Kasami.

Now, let's enjoy the first chapter of the year.

I do not own Love Live.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

Kanan stretches her arms into the air.

It was a sunny morning in the summer. Even though it was near the end of the season, it was still hot during the day, but it doesn't deter her at all.

Another great day, the dark blue-haired girl said as she felt a gentle breeze brushing her face.

She was standing on the balcony on the second level of her home, giving her a great view of the ocean.

As she scans around the area, she notices something strange.

Hm?

From a far distance, Kanan can see dark storm clouds concentrating in a particular area of the ocean.

Normally, storms in the ocean are not uncommon, but seeing this one made Kanan uneasy for some reason.

What is this feeling? Kanan said, showing a worried expression although she didn't understand it.

[Later that Afternoon]

I don't get why we couldn't just do our work outdoors, Mari said, laying her head on a table.

At the school, the third years were inside in the Student Council office.

It's to make sure that we get our work done. Knowing you, you would try to slack off, Dia with a disapproved look while going through papers.

Although there were no classes during summer break, there is still work to be done as the student council president and director. Kanan was not part of the student council, but came to support her friends.

Mou, I still think we need a change in scenery, Mari said in a pout as she turn her head to the person sitting at the wooden chair. Don't you agree, Kanan?

Kanan was nearby and staring outside the window, but for some reason, she didn't answer back.

Hm? Kanan-san? Dia said.

When the youngest of the three didn't respond, the blonde gets up and came within a few inches from the blue-haired girl.

Kannnnnan! Mari said.

Wah! Kanan said who nearly fall out her chair from hearing her name loudly. That surprised me. What's the matter all of a sudden?

All of a sudden… Dia said with disbelief. That's what we want to know.

What do you mean? Kanan said.

Just before, we were talking to you, but it felt that you weren't listening, Dia said. It looks like you are distracted by something

R-Really? Kanan said.

Kanan. We have known you since we were little kids, Mari said, who look somehow offended. You always zone out when something gets your attention.

Not only that, you had a worried look on your face, Dia said, who was concerned as she walks to them. If something is bothering you, you should tell us.

Yes! Mari said. There's nothing that cannot be done with the three of us.

It's nothing serious, Kanan said, trying wave off their concerns. It's just…

But what? Both Dia and Mari said leaning in, determined to get to the mystery.

Around the same time, in a forest close to the school, a lone Hyou was standing in a clearing, her eyes closed, and holding a few kunai. She was wearing a white shirt with purple stripes and yellow shorts.

On some of the nearby trees, there was a sheet of paper stuck to each of them with a circular target drawn on.

After taking a breath, the red-haired girl jumps into the air, reaching near the height of the trees.

In midair, the Hyou threw the kunai at the targets with accurate precision despite the lack of vision.

Every kunai hit the center of each target as Riko lands on her feet.

That was amazing, Riko-chan! Chika said, clapping her hands.

Chika and You were getting a lesson in weapons while the first years and [Kizuna] were sitting, watching them with interest. Since the first incident, they were debating whether to have weapons when fighting enemies.

Even if you say that, this much is usual, Riko said.

Unlike Riko, who lived in the Country of Mori and was taught how to fight in school, it is not the case for the children born in the Country of Mizu.

Actually, I wanted to try something today since you two are able to use aura, Riko said.

What is it? You said.

Is it something exciting? Chika said with anticipation as she wags her tail.

It's nothing extreme, Riko said, who turn her attention to the [Kizuna] of Uchiura. Would you two come over here?

Curious, Kaga and Kyono did and was asked to hold out their hand (or flipper).

The Hyou reach out and grab Kaga and Kyono's hand and flipper with each of her hands.

Soon after, Kaga and Kyono felt a slight tinging on their bodies before Riko lets go of them.

What was that about? Kaga said.

Tofu? Kyono said, tilting its head.

After turning her back to them, Riko briefly walk to where a giant rock was and went behind it, to the confusion of everyone else.

Riko: Kaga, can you hear me?

Ah?! Kaga said as its body jolted.

What's wrong, Kaga? Chika said.

Just now, I can hear Riko's voice in my head, Kaga said.

Wait, Really?! Chika said.

In my country, this is a technique called [Line]. It's used by those who can use aura to communicate with other people through their minds. You-chan and Chika-chan can do that with you and Kyono because of the bond between [Host] and [Kizuna]. With this, we can communicate with each other even if we are not close, Riko said as she returns.

Kaga: I see. That would be very helpful.

Kyono: Tofu!

No fair! I want to make a meaningful connection with Riko-chan! Chika said.

The way you said that sounds rather suspicious though, Riko said with a blank look.

Everyone!

Hearing someone calling them, the girls saw the third years coming to them.

Ah? It's one-chan and the others, Ruby said, happy to see her sister.

Are you done with your school work, zura? Hanamaru said.

We did, but we need to talk, Dia said with a serious expression.

The third-years told the other girls about Kanan's worry.

A storm? Chika said.

I know it's silly, but I can't seem to get it out of my mind all day, Kanan said.

I don't know about that. Your hunches when it comes to the ocean are pretty spot on, You said.

Really? Riko said.

It is. There are times when she can even predict if it's going to rain just by looking at the sky, Dia said.

For sure! Mari said.

What is this storm you keep talking about? Kaga said.

Why, it's the wrath of the gods, Yoshiko said.

Ignoring the drama, Riko tries to explain the concept of storm as well as lighting and thunder to the [Kizuna].

Somehow, the way you describe it reminds me of someone, Kaga said.

Could it be one of friends? Chika said.

Maybe, but if that's true… Kaga said.

Anyway, we should take a look into it just to be sure, Riko said.

Deciding on their next move, the group head to the beach, except for Kanan who went to her house to make preparations.

Unexpectedly, another person was coming with them.

Itsuki-san? Riko said.

On their way to the beach, they ran into Itsuki and let him know about what they were doing.

I believe I should be of use, the Shika said.

That would actually be helpful for us. Thank you, Riko said with a small smile.

Since they are going in the middle of the ocean, it was important to take precautions.

For those living in the Country of Mori, fighting in underwater settings was rare and come with different challenges compared to fighting on land.

As everyone reached the shore, they can see the storm clouds from afar that Kanan mentioned.

After some discussion, they decided that Chika, Riko, You, Kanan, and Itsuki would go investigate the strange phenomenon.

Riko has fighting experience while both Chika and You have their [Kizuna] partners. As for Kanan, she is familiar with the ocean and the only one with the ability to breath underwater. As a manipulator type, Itsuki was an expert in healing and creating barriers. The rest would stayed behind for their safety.

Ah. There she is. Kanan-chan! Chika said, waving her hand.

They saw a decent sized white boat coming to them.

When the boat stopped, Kanan got off the boat and meet up with the rest.

Hey, everyone. Was I late? Kanan said.

Nope, you are just in time, You said.

So this is your family's boat, Kanan-san? Riko said.

Yep. We used this boat whenever we go diving, Kanan said. There is also some equipment that may come in handy while out in the ocean.

Upon a closer look, the Hyou could see Kanan wearing what looked like a blue and black wetsuit that showed the feminine, but muscular figure of the older girl.

Are you curious? Kanan said, noticing where Riko was staring at. This is what we wear for diving. Maybe when this is over, you should come visit our shop.

T-That's fine, Riko stuttered.

The second years, the two [Kizuna], and Itsuki boarded the boat, embark from the shore, and make their way to the storm.

As the boat got closer to the storm, they could see how big it was. The girls couldn't help but look with unease, but also confusion.

Kanan-chan said that she saw the storm this morning, but it doesn't look like it moved from this area since then. That is very weird, You said, giving a stern expression.

You think so, You-chan? Riko said.

Papa taught me a thing or two about the elements out at sea, You said, both hands on her hips and puffing her chest out.

A shark! Chika said, pointing at the water.

Sure enough, they can see a dark blue fin sticking out of the water that is coming their way.

No…. that's Gaba, Kaga said in the low voice.

Gaba? You said.

When the mysterious being came up from the water, it had the appearance of a shark with dark blue scales on its upper body and a grey underbelly that include its mouth. Its body was nearly half the size of their boat.

A shark [Kizuna]… Riko said.

Its red eyes and tough appearance gives it an ominous presence.

This will be a problem, Kaga said with a bitter look.

Why is that? Itsuki said.

Gaba is very territorial. As in Gaba will attack anyone who trespass in the waters, which include humans, Kaga said.

Well, that's rude, the ocean belongs to everyone, Kanan said while furrowing her brows.

Excuse me. Are the one that made these storms? Riko said.

Leave, the shark [Kizuna] said with low voice and its mouth open, showing its rows of sharp, triangular teeth.

Hey, now. That's no way of talking to us especially when we haven't seen each other for so long, Kaga said, sitting on the rail of the boat.

Tofu! Kyono said.

You will have to forgive Gaba. That idiot is not the friendliest bunch, even though we are friends, Kaga said.

My mentor did say that not all [Kizuna] would be friendly, Riko said. This is going to tricky.

While trying to think of a plan, a deep bellow was felt from underwater, shaking the boat and startling everyone.

What was that?! You said.

Not again, Gaba said, narrowing its eyes.

What's the matter, Gaba? Kaga said, just as the shark [Kizuna] quickly dives back in the water. Hey!

Everyone, look at the water! Itsuki said with a serious expression.

They were so focused on the storm and Gaba appearing that they didn't realized the area around them until now.

To their horror, there were numerous dead, blacken remains of different plants and animals floating underwater.

So cruel, You said. What could have cause this?

Over there! Kaga said pointed at a certain direction.

Suspended deep underwater, they could see a creature with the appearance of a pufferfish with white scales and sharp needles perturbing all over its body. There seems to be a giant eye in the center of the creature and a thick purple haze enveloping it.

That looks disgusting, Kaga said. Could that thing be responsible for what we saw?

Most likely. And from what I could tell from here, they may have died from poison, Itsuki said, with a pained expression.

You mean, if we don't stop it now, it could kill every living thing in the ocean it touches? Riko said.

It can't be, Chika said, looking pale.

This is terrible, Kanan said with a rare angry expression, to the astonishment of the second years. We cannot let that happen.

The creature may have noticed them as a few of its spikes discharged from its body and coming their way.

Watch out! Riko yelled.

Suddenly, a barrier made of green-colored aura appeared, forming around the boat and surrounding water.

Though the spikes hit the barrier, they were not able to penetrate it and shattered in pieces.

Looks like I made it in time, Itsuki said, both his hands grasped together.

Itsuki-san! Riko said.

I will keep the boat safe, but we need to do something about that thing and the toxic cloud, Itsuki said.

Wait, what is Gaba doing?! You said.

At the same they were making sense of the situation, Gaba was directly engaging against the pufferfish in a battle of exchanging volleys, with the [Kizuna] shooting lightening-like harpoons from its mouth at the enemy.

Gaba itself was surrounded by a yellow static-like aura that seem to act as a barrier against the poison.

Looks like Gaba is fighting against that thing, Kaga said. We should help out.

Still, why is he fighting so hard like this? Riko said.

What do you mean, Riko-chan? Chika said.

Right now, Gaba is at a disadvantage, but it does not look like it is stopping him at all, Riko said.

Of course it wouldn't. It's because this enemy is messing with the ocean, Kaga said. Out of all of us, Gaba loves the ocean the most.

..What did you say? Kanan said, turning her head.

I don't really know myself, but Gaba always had this fascination for the ocean and those live in it for as long as I can remember. That's why that fool cannot forgive anyone that harms the ocean and does whatever it takes to protect it, Kaga said. But, at this rate…

He is the same, Kanan said in a small voice.

Suddenly, Kanan runs to the edge of the boat and leaps into the water.

Tch! Itsuki clicked his tongue, who forms a barrier on the blue haired girl just before she could hit the water.

Kanan-san?! Riko said.

Kanan-chan! You said.

What is she doing?! Chika said.

While the girls are frantic on the surface, Kanan swims quickly to where Gaba is, who was starting to look tired.

Gaba! Kanan said.

Even though the water makes it hard to project her voice, Gaba looks at Kanan as if it understood although confused.

I want to protect the ocean, too, so let me help you, Kanan said with a determined expression.

As their eyes locked with each other, they didn't move despite the dire situation that is going on.

Without warning, Gaba swims up towards Kanan while opening mouth wide.

Eh? Kanan let a word, her body paralyzed from looking inside the [Kizuna]'s mouth.

The moment Gaba completely engulf the girl in one gulp, a blue-green light was emitted from its body.

What's happening?! Chika said.

No sooner Kanan went into the water, the people on the boat saw a blue-green light shoot up into the sky, clearing it of the storm from before. Not only that, it drove away the surrounding toxin in the water around them and temporally halted the creature's attacks.

When the light was gone, they saw an underwater figure in full-bodied dark-blue armor, wearing a black helmet that covered the entire head. One hand was holding a long spear with a sharp blade at the end.

Even though the figure's face was hidden by the helmet and blurred by the water, they realized who it was by the shape of the figure and the dark blue hair sticking out of the back of the helmet.

Is that….? Riko said.

No way! Chika said.

Kanan-chan was able to perform [Fusion] with Gaba?! You said.

Somehow, my body feels light, Kanan thought as her body, which was protected by a yellow aura, was drifting in the water. She could feel something warm flowing through her body, but couldn't tell what.

Gaba: This is…. Watch out!

The sharp voice snaps Kanan out of her stupor as she narrowly avoids getting hit by a spike.

Now's your chance! Itsuki said.

Kanan: Let's end this, Gaba.

Gaba: Ah.

Her grip on the spear tightens as Kanan swims towards the pufferfish, who retaliates by launching a barrage of spikes at her.

While gracefully dodging the spikes, Kanan head straight to the creature.

As soon as Kanan was in a hands length of the creature, she thrusts the spear into the center of its eye.

Arrrrrrghhhhhhhhhhhh

The creature let out a painful screech as Kanan drove the weapon deeper into it.

It's over! Kanan and Gaba said.

From her body, an electric-like aura ran though the spear and directly into the creature.

The creature's screams became even more intense as its body couldn't take the energy influx and begin to swell up.

Sensing the change, Kanan retracted the spear and swims away from it as quickly as she could.

Seconds later, the creature's body explode underwater, obliterating everything within its range. Luckily, both Kanan and the boat was far enough to avoid harm although the blast shook them extensively.

After seeing that the enemy was destroyed, Kanan swam back to where the others were, propelled dramatically out of the water, and landed on the dock of the boat.

While the others were still in shock, Kanan took off her helmet, showing a confident smile.

Kanan-chan! Chika said with excitement as Gaba and Kanan undo the [Fusion]. You were absolutely badass.

The way you fought that thing was so cool, You said.

Even I was a little surprised when Gaba opened its mouth. I thought he was trying to eat me, Kanan said. I'm just glad that we were able to stop that monster. Isn't that right, Gaba?

Gaba, who was floating next to the boat, stared at the group without saying anything before diving back into the water.

Hey! What was that about? Chika said.

Don't worry about it. That's just Gaba's way of being respectful, Kaga said. At least we don't have to worry that fellow for now.

With relief, there were no major injuries from the battle although Itsuki told them to watch for any delayed effects of the toxin.

Since there was nothing else they can do there, the group along with Gaba decide to head back to Uchiura.

A shark, zura! Hanamaru said.

When the boat disembark, the other girls were surprised by the appearance of Gaba next to the boat.

S-Scary, Ruby said, her voice and body slightly trembling.

The returning group gave a recap of what took place and how Kanan became the [Host] of Gaba. As proof, Kanan showed a yellow marking on her right hand.

Even though they couldn't see it clearly, there was a light-green marking in the vague shape of a dolphin located on the center of Gaba's stomach, much to its chagrin.

This is a outrage! Yohane demands a cool familiar too, Yoshiko said with aggravation.

So Kanan-san was able to tame it, Dia said.

I expected nothing less from Kanan! Mari said with pride. A true edge lord!

[Two Days Later]

Looks like I am part of the team now, Kanan said.

After stabilizing Kanan's aura flow, Riko went through the basis of aura that she did with Chika and You.

From the water test, they determined that Kanan's main aura type was manipulator.

Surprisingly or not surprisingly, Kanan was able to grasp the flow of aura and use it on her first try by levitating water in the air using both hands.

I have been around water most of my life, so this is a no-brainer for me, Kanan said with confidence.

As expected of the number one ocean baka, Chika said.

It's great that Kanan-chan can join us, You said.

After going through some practice, the group decide to take a break.

Chika, You, Riko, and Kanan are sitting in a circle, with Kaga and Kyono relaxing on the side. Gaba was not interested in things happening on land, so the [Kizuna] stayed in the ocean.

So how is Gaba doing? Kaga said.

Well, Gaba and I were able to come to an understanding after talking a few times, Kanan said with an endearing smile. He doesn't seem so bad once you get to know him.

According to the older girl, the two have exchanged information, so Gaba is aware about humans and the events before its awakening. Also, she was able to convince Gaba to not attack humans.

You were able to get that stubborn idiot to listen. You are amazing, you know that? Kaga said with an incredulous look. There are only a few that Gaba respect even among us.

Kanan-chan is awesome! Chika said proudly.

Still, I wonder if Gaba told you about 'that', The frog [Kizuna] said as it went over to Kanan and whisper something in her ear. Hmm hmm hmm.

Wow! Really? Kanan said, looking surprised.

It's true, but good luck getting Gaba to do 'that' for you, Kaga said.

Well, he kinda did it already, Kanan said sheepishly.

I wasn't sure if this is a good time to bring it up, but how's it going with….? Riko said, who was hesitate to ask.

With that, the atmosphere around them became solemn. It was regarding the aftermath of their battle against the pufferfish creature.

Even though the creature was destroyed, the large amount of toxin that was produced was still lingering in the water. From what Kanan could tell, the vastness of the ocean has not diluted the effects of the toxin.

Even Itsuki, who was asked by the girls, was not able to come up an antidote for the toxin due to its unknown nature.

Luckily, Gaba was keeping an eye on it by containing it in an electric field and a barrier created from the engraved papers that Riko had to prevent the toxin from spreading to other places in the ocean.

I know Gaba is doing his best, but it's hard on his body, Kanan said with a sad smile. I wish there was a way I could help.

Actually, before coming today, I asked someone who may be able to help out with this problem, Riko said, raising her hand. They said they are coming tomorrow.

Eh? Really? Chika said.

Who is that? You said.

It's the deer [Kizuna], Nara. Nara is one of the best healers in Mori, Riko said. With its help, we should be able to remove the toxin from the ocean.

Is that true? Kanan said with anticipation, leaning forward.

It's hard to say what will happened, but at least we can try, Riko said.

[The Next Day]

Words couldn't describe what the girls and [Kizuna] of Uchiura are seeing.

When they heard that a [Kizuna] from Mori was visiting, they thought they had seen it all but it seems they have not.

In front of them was a large, majestic deer-like being with dark-green fur and white markings.

The deer had ivory antlers shaped like crescent moons.

It's so big! Chika said with a loud voice.

So gorgeous! Mari said.

Kukuku. You can tell its presence as a 'guardian of the forest', Yoshiko said.

Somehow, all the [Kizuna] of Mori have a certain air to them, Kaga said, crossing its arms with a dejected expression.

Tofu? Kyono said, who didn't understand its friend's words.

While the other girls kept their respectable distance, Riko easily greets the newcomer.

It has been awhile, Nara-san, Riko said to walk closer to the [Kizuna].

I haven't see you since you were still in Mori under Taishu's care, Nara said, lowering its head to meet the Hyou's eyes. I was informed about the situation. Were you able to get what I asked?

Hai, Riko said as she presents in her hand a medium-size glass vial with a sample of the toxin they collected.

Nara's eyes were glowing green as the vial was levitated into the air.

So, what are you doing with it? Riko asked.

I need to get an idea of the toxin's composition, Nara said. From there, I should be able to find a way to neutralize it by the time we reach the source.

You can do with just a tiny bit of toxin, zura? Hanamaru said, its eyes wide. That's so cool, zura.

After introducing everyone, the group and the [Kizuna] head to the beach closest to them, where the boat was waiting.

Will you be able to come with us? Riko said, referring to how Nara will cross the ocean to the contaminated zone.

That won't be a problem, Nara said.

The deer [Kizuna] calmly walk into the ocean, but instead of sinking into the water due to its weight, the [Kizuna] seemingly stands on the water's surface.

He's walking on water! Chika said.

How is he doing that? Dia said.

Actually, if you use aura, it can be done with practice, Riko said.

To demonstrate, Riko gently step on the top of the water without getting wet, which ripple with each step.

You have got to teach how to do that! Chika said, who looked jealous.

Departing from the shore, Nara trotted steadily on the ocean, the girls and [Kizuna] following along using Kanan's boat.

After some time, they eventually arrived at the contamination site, keeping their distance.

This is a lot bigger and more pressing than I thought, Nara said, looking down at the site. Despite showing a stoic expression, the deer [Kizuna] was disturbed by the sight before seeing something in the water. Hm?

The girls and [Kizuna] saw Gaba emerging from the water and swimming towards the boat.

You must be Gaba, I presume. I heard about your efforts, keeping this hazard from spreading. You did good work for holding up for this long, Nara said with sincerity.

Gaba didn't answer, but immerse half of its body into the water.

Will you be able to do something, Nara-san? Riko said.

I will do my best, Nara said with a determined expression. Now, everyone get back.

While the boat and Gaba move away from the deer [Kizuna], Nara's antlers start to glow an intense green light.

Within seconds, a mass of water ascend from the ocean surface.

The girls could see the toxin being funneled to the center of the mass.

After the flow of water stopped, a giant sphere was floating above them, the toxin concentrated in its center.

The girls and other [Kizuna] watch at the spectacle with awe.

Nara approaches the sphere, stopping just short of the wall.

When the tips of its anthers made contact with sphere, a shining green light enter the sphere.

Bit by bit, the toxin that the light touches was vaporized until it completely disappeared, leaving only clear water.

As the light from the antlers fade, the sphere begin to descend before plunging into the ocean.

When the mass of water hits the ocean surface, it generated a big wave and rocked the boat.

Wahhhh! Everyone shouted as they held on to the boat until it stabilized.

Is it gone? Ruby asked.

I believe so, Nara said.

Having accomplished their mission, everyone returned home.

Thank you so much for helping us, Kanan said, who was hugging one of Nara's leg affectionately.

Um, Kanan-san? Riko said, seeing the unexpected gesture.

This is her way of showing her appreciation, Dia said, who look just as dejected.

Not that I mind it, Mari said with a catish smile. It's one of things that I like about Kanan.

I see, Riko said, deciding to let it go.

I'm glad that I was able to help, Nara said, looking satisfied. I would like to ask you all to check on that place every once in awhile.

What do you mean? Kanan said, after releasing the deer [Kizuna] from the hug.

Purifying something of that scale means an enormous amount of aura was used. As a side effect, it may have a lasting effect to the surrounding area although I don't know if it's a good or bad thing, Nara said.

Don't worry. We'll keep an eye on it, Riko said.

By the end of the day, Nara returned to the Country of Mori.

Over the next few days, there was an astonishing change in the area, true to Nara's word.

The aura residue from before nourished the plankton and plant life, allowing them to flourish. Witnesses say that there were mass gatherings of fish and other life forms in the area. It eventually became a mecca for the marine life near the Country of Mizu.

[?]

In a shadowy unknown place, water was dripping from the jagged rocks perturbing from the ceiling.

Drip… Drip….

As the water droplets fell to the rocky ground, some of the drops landed on a long, slender body that was twisting around, finding its way around in darkness.

As it lifts its head, a pair of red eyes was glowing in the void.

[Omake: On One Particular Night]

What a day.

Gaba was passively floating on the ocean surface. It was tired for a number of reasons. From Gaba heard, a lot of things had happened ever since waking up in a familiar, yet unfamiliar world.

Looking up at the sky, the stars that Gaba had glaze upon in the past has since changed their position.

That was proof enough for Gaba that they were asleep for a long time.

Perhaps the biggest change was the existence of humans. For the most part, Gaba was avoiding the places where there were humans and patrolling areas near Uchiura.

Such a strange human.

Not able to explain it, the [Kizuna] felt a strange connection with the human named Kanan.

Hm?

The shark [Kizuna] notices a presence looking at it from a distance.

Despite how dark it was, Gaba was able to sense someone standing on the shore.

In general, all living beings carry an electric pulse in their bodies that differ in strength and pace.

As the [Kizuna] of 'Thunder', Gaba was able to see those clearly.

Out of either curiosity or suspicion, Gaba decided to investigate.

As Gaba swim closer to the shore, the [Kizuna] could see what looked like an old man with short, white hair, wearing a white shirt and blue shorts.

Despite his wrinkly skin, the man had a lanky, but firm build. With one of his hand, he was carrying a plate that held several white, round-shaped objects stack on each other.

I have never seen someone like you here before, the old man said with a smile.

Before Gaba could answer back…

Grandpa!

The two turn their heads and saw Kanan running to them.

Oh, Kanan, the old man said, his smile not faltering. Is something wrong?

I told you not to get too close to him, Kanan said, who looked a little annoyed.

Kanan told her grandpa about Gaba, not mentioning that Gaba was actually a [Kizuna], and telling him to leave the [Kizuna] alone.

This one seems to be wandering around here and it looked a little hungry, so I wanted to give it some fishballs, the old man said. Didn't think he would actually come to me.

You didn't have to do that. Actually, those fishballs look a little weird, Kanan said with a disbelief expression.

Their whimsical bickering went on with Gaba watching silently until the old man decided to return to the house, leaving the two and the food by themselves.

Sorry about my grandpa. He can be strange, but he was just being friendly, Kanan said, who was embarrassed.

.He's not the only one, Gaba mumbled.

Hm? Did you say something? Kanan said. Anyway, what should we do with the fishballs? I will understand if you don't want to eat it. Though Grandpa is a great cook.

….I will eat it, Gaba said.

Eh? Really? Then.. Kanan said as she threw a few of them into Gaba's mouth.

Nom nom nom

How is it? Kanan said, eager for the answer.

I don't know what it's supposed to taste like, but it doesn't taste bad, Gaba said after finishing the rest.

Well, I will let grandpa know, Kanan said with a satisfied smile. So what are you doing out at night?

Just doing my patrol, Gaba said as it tilted its head up. Also, I was looking at the stars.

The stars? Kanan said, who didn't expected that answer before also looking up. Ma, I like watching the stars, too. Tonight is pretty clear that you can see everything.

It is, Gaba said.

They remain silent until the older girl returned to her home.

If you are wondering how the electrical energy mentioned in the story would work underwater, aura transmitted into elementals would mimic its properties, but it is still different from the actual elements.

Fun Fact: The inspiration I got for Gaba's form was from the pokemon, Sharpedo.

Stay tuned for the next update.
