Chapter Thirty-five: Dementor on board and VK's coming to Hogwarts
When everyone came back from Greece, not only did Harry and Vanessa got their letter from Hogwarts but so did the VK's. Since he is going on his third year, Harry got his letter to visit Hogsmeade. Adam and Bell weren't sure at first after what they found out about Sirius Black escape but Vanessa was able to get them to sign it. For Vanessa, she got a surprise when she got the pin and letter that she was made Prefect. Knowing that this was a big deal, her parents got her a Siberian eagle owl as a gift. Vanessa named him Orion.
By the last week of the month the royal family had taken everyone to get their money from Gringotts and got their school supplies. In Diagon Alley Hunter had a little run with Lucius Mafloy who had mistaken him for Lucas. The teen just brushed him off and walked away but Lucius kept his eye on him until he was gone. On the day before the last day of the week Harry got a letter from his friends. In Ron's letter he told him about his trip in Egypt, how Percy was made Head Boy, that Ron's rat, Scabbers, got ill from their trip and that they'll meet them at Kings' Cross station . With Hermiones' letter, it was for once short. Her parents had let her stay with the Weasleys at the Leaky Cauldron. And she had gotten a cat, named Crookshanks, from the Magical Creature Shop. Ron hates the cat only because it tried to attack Scabbers.
On the last day Hades was walking back and forth in the living room of the VK's castle in annoyances. Hunter, Jay and Carlos were the only ones that were ready with trunks ready. The only ones they were waiting for were Mal, Eve, Uma and Ceila.
"Girls, if you don't come down soon I'm gonna burn down this place!" He yelled "Let's go! Let's go! Let's go!"
After a few minutes the four girls came down with their things ready.
"About time. What took you so long?" Hunter asked
"Most of it was Eve's fault." Uma said "She tried to pack up her whole closet."
"And her sewing supply." Ceila said
"Hey, where's Maggie and the others?" Mal asked
"Malcom called, Merlin is dropping her off with him." Jay said "The other kids are being dropped off by their parents.
"Alright let's go, come on." Hades said
He hurried them towards the fireplace and had them go through the floo powder network. But before they left everyone said goodbye to their friends and loved ones. Dizzy and Doug came and hugged Eve goodbye. Jane came to say goodbye to Carlos. Lonnie and Gil said goodbye to Jay. Harry and the rest of the crew said goodbye to Uma while Ceilas' father came to say goodbye to her. Mal was gonna see Ben in London soon so she and Hunter were the first step in the fireplace. After all the goodbyes everyone went in one by one. They all met up at the Leaky Cauldron and were able to get to King's Cross station by the Knight Bus. Once they got to the station they met up with Vanessa's family and the Weasleys'.
"What took you guys so long?" Ben asked Mal.
"Don't ask." Mal muttered
"Mr. and Mrs. Weasley, these are the VK's we told you about." Vanessa introduced "Mal, Hunter, Jay, Eve, Carlos, Uma, and Ceila. Guys these are the Weasley family. Author and Molly."
"Nice to meet you all. Always a pleasure to meet new witches and wizards." Author smiled and shook their hands.
"Lovely to meet you all." Molly smiled
"The big head one is Percy."
"I can't believe they appointed you as Prefect." He glared
"Shove it, Pin-Head. And the twin pranksters Fred and George."
"Good-day, mate." They said
"And this boy here is a friend of Harry's, Ron and their little sister Ginny."
The two just nodded at the group.
"And this here is another friend of Harry's, Hermione Granger."
"It's nice to meet you all." Hermione said
With everyone introduced to each other they all went through the barrier and got to the platform. There they saw some of the other VK's that were accepted to Hogwarts. She saw Chernabog's son, Axel and Morgana's (sister of Ursula) son, Marius, who was also a friend of Hunter and Malocm. Sadly, as much as Vanessa wanted to join her friends and boyfriend she had to join the rest of the Prefects and Head Boy and Girl. Inside she saw that Rain, Dawn and Artism were made Perfect for their houses. Sadly, but not surprised, Lucas was Slytherin's boy Prefect. It was a bit boring but when the meeting was over everyone was about to leave till the train suddenly stopped.
"Why did we stop?" Dawn asked "We couldn't be there now, could we."
Vanessa was becoming tense when she sensed something dangerous nearby. The temperature in the train started to get colder and colder, to the point that they could see their breaths. Vanessa remembered this feeling and knew what was coming.
"There's something out there." Artism said as he looked out the icy window.
Fearing for everyone on the train Vanessa hurried forward where she knew where the Dementor was.
"Vanessa."
"What are you doing?"
"Get back here, Potter."
She ignored them all. She knew that she had to stop this being before it could harm anyone on the train. The witch princess halted when she spotted the creature feasting on someone. Vanessa quickly pulled out her wand and thought of a happy memory.
"Expecto Patronum!" She shouted
The silver dragon sprang forth and let out a roar before flying towards the cloaked being. The light was so large and bright that it pulled away from its meal and stepped out of the compartment.
"I won't allow you to harm a student. Sirius Black is not on the train. Now get out!" She snarled
The silver dragon let out a pulse and roared again, which increased its light. Knowing it could not win, the Dementor floated away. Once she knew it was completely gone put her wand away and rushed towards the compartment. To her horror it was her cousin Harry that it was feasting on and he was out cold.
"Oh, Merlin. Harry!"
Kneeling next to him she noticed that it was Remus Lupin. She forgot that he was hired for the Defence Against the Dark Arts position.
"You did well, Miss Potter." Lupin said "I thank you for doing your duty as Perfect and protecting the younger students."
"Is he going to be okay?" She asked
"He should be up in a bit, give him a moment." He said
It took a few minutes but Harry finally woke up, confused and dazed.
"What happened?" He asked "What was that-that thing? Who screamed?"
"No one screamed, Harry." Vanessa said
Harry looked around the compartment and saw Ginny and Neville, who were also there, looked very pale.
"But I heard screaming…"
A loud snap made them all jump. Looking they saw that Professor Lupin was breaking an enormous slab of chocolate into pieces.
"Here." He said
Harry took the chocolate but didn't eat it.
"What was that thing?" He asked Lupin.
"A dementor." Lupin said while giving chocolate to everyone else. "One of the dementors of Azkaban. Young Miss. Vanessa came and was able to cast it away."
The young teens just stared at him as he crumpled up the empty chocolate wrapper and put it in his pocket.
"Eat. It'll help. And Vanessa you can go back to your compartment now. Harry will be fine once he eats the chocolate." Lupin said "I need to speak to the driver, excuse me."
He strolled past Harry and Vanessa and disappeared into the corridor.
"Are you sure you're okay Harry?" Vanessa asked
"I don't get it...What happened?" Harry asked
"Well...that thing...the dementor...stood there and looked (I mean, I think it did, I couldn't see its face)...and you...you…" Hermione said
"I thought you were having a fit or something." Ron said, looking scared. "You went sort of rigid and fell out of your seat and started twitching…"
"It was feasting on his lifeforce." Vanessa said
Everyone looked at her with wide eyes.
"Read up about them. They feed on our lifeforce. That's how they control the prisoners in Azkaban." She explained "They don't care who it is innocent or not. Young or old. They'll feed on you. They truly are curl beings. I'm gonna go to my compartment now. Will you be okay?"
Harry nodded, so she stood up to leave.
"Eat the chocolate you guys. Professor Lupin knows what he is talking about." She said before leaving.

It wasn't long til the train stopped at the station. Everyone quickly scrambled to get outside. Hagrid had come to gather the first years and the VK's (that are known as transfers). After wishing the VK's good luck across the lake Vanessa followed the rest of the school to the stagecoaches. She smiled in amusement when she saw Harry, Ron and Hermione looking at Dude weirdly. The curb was playing around with the Thestrals but the creature was invisible to the nake eye.
"What's wrong with you Curb, Vanessa?" Ron asked
"He's just playing with the Thestrals." Vanessa said "Come on, Dude. This way."
Dude barked and followed his master.
"Thestrals?" Ron said in a terrifying squeaky tone.
"Yes, they are the ones that pull carriages." She said as she got one with her friends. "They're not pulled by magic if that's what you think."
She, Rain and Dawn giggled at Ron's terrifying face while Harry and Hermione were confused.
The carriage was normal but it was until they got to the gate. Vanessa noticed a few Dementors floating above the school. Mr. Weasley had told them that the Ministry was sending Dementors to guard the school. It is believed that Sirius Black was heading Hogwarts. Professor Dumbledore wasn't happy about it but was only allowed to guard only outside the school. Vanessa was glad that Dumbledore would never allow them inside the school. They all entered the school doors and headed into the Great Hall. She sat down with Malcom, Fred, George and Jordan but noticed that Harry and Hermione weren't around.
"Ron, where are Harry and Hermione?" She asked
"Professor McGonagall said she needed to talk to them in her office." He said
Vanessa wasn't too worried as she knew nothing could harm them inside the school. But she did remember her fathers words about being wary of those you trust and how Baba Yaga can transform into anything and anyone. When the doors opened again the first years and the VK's students came walking in. Since Professor McGonagall was talking to Harry and Hermione, Professor Flitwick took her place with the sorting hat. They started with the first years first. Celia was among them as she was 11 years old and was sorted into Gryffindor. When they were done the little man called up the first VK.
"Carlos De Vil."
Carlos gulped a little before sitting down on the chair and placed the hat on his head.
"Hufflepuff!"
The Hufflepuff table cheered as he got up and headed over, sitting next to Artism.
"Eve Queen."
Eve squeezed Mal's hand for goodluck before sitting down and putting the hat on.
"Ravenclaw!"
Eve smiled and sat down next to Rain and her sister Luna.
"Jay."
Jay showed no fear as he sat down on the chair and placed the sorting hat on.
"Gryffindor!"
Vanessa and the other Gryffindor cheered as he came over to their table.
"Mal."
Mal looked over at her brother before going up and sat down on the chair. Professor Flitwick placed the sorting hat and waited.
"Slytherin!"
Vanessa could see the uncertain look on Mal's face but was able to compose herself and walked over to Slytherins table, sitting with Dawn.
"Hunter."
Vanessa knew it was in his blood that he would be in Slytherin but knew he could choose a didn't house if he wanted. Hunter looked over at her before looking at Mal. He wanted to be in the same house as Vanessa but knew he had to look after his sister. From what he has heard about the Slytherin house, most of them were prejudiced. If they knew Mal was part dark fairy they would make her school life here hell. He made his choice and placed the sorting hat on his head.
"Well, well, it has been a long time since another heir came here. But I have to admit you are a bit puzzled. You are blooded to Slytherin and have the mind to achieve greatness. But you also have a sharp and clever mind that Ravenclaw holds dear. Then there is your loyalty and braveness that no one bound. You could be Gryffindor. Hmmm...very difficult. But I see you have already made up your mind. Very well. SLYTHERIN!"
Hunter took off the hat and went to sit at the Slytherins' table but looked over at Vanessa. The witch princess nodded, telling him that she understood.
"Hey do you think Hunter would get us in the Slytherin's common room to...let out some of our supplies?" George asked
Vanessa and Malcom chuckled before watching the rest of the sorting. It wasn' long till the sorting was over. Uma was sorted into Gryffindor while Axel, Marius and Maggie were all sorted into Slytherin. When Professor Flitwick was placing the chair and hat away Harry and Hermione finally arrived.
"What was all that about?" Ron asked
Harry started to explain but stopped when the headmaster stood up to speak.
"Welcome, new and old!" Dumbledore said "Welcome to another year at Hogwarts! I have a few things to say to you all, and as one of them is very serious, I think it best to get it out of the way before you become befuddled by our excellent feast." Dumbledore cleared his throat and continued. "As you all will be aware after their search of the Hogwarts Express, our school is presently playing host to some of the Dementors of Azkaban, who are here on Ministry of Magic business. They are stationed at every entrance to the grounds, and while they are with us, I must make it plain that nobody is to leave school without permission. Dementors are not to be fooled by tricks or disguises... or even Invisibility Cloaks."
Harry looked over at Vanessa. The two knew very well that he was talking to them about that.
"It is not in the nature of a Dementor to understand pleading or excuses. I therefore warn each and every one of you to give them no reason to harm you. I look to the Prefects, and our new Head Boy and Girl, to make sure that no students runs afoul of the dementors." Dumbledore paused for a moment before continuing. "On a happier note, I am pleased to welcome two new teachers to our ranks this year. First, Professor Lupin, who has kindly consented to fill the post of Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher."
Only Vanessa, the VK's and those who had been in the compartment on the train with Luin clapped hard.
"Look at Snape." Malcom whispered in Vanessa's ear. "Is it me or does he seem more pissed off than ever?"
She looked over at the Potions master and saw that he was staring daggers at Lupin. Everyone knew that Professor Snape wanted the Defense Against the Dark Arts job but he has never shown that much loath towards the person that got the job.
"As to our second new appointment. Well, I am sorry to tell you that Professor Kettleburn, our Care of Magical Creature teacher, retired at the end of last year in order to enjoy more time with his remaining limbs. However, I am delighted to say that his place will be filled by none other than Rubeus Hagrid, who has agreed to take on this teaching job in addition to his gamekeeping duties."
Vanessa and the whole Gryffindor table were applauding the hardest for the man.
"We should've known!" Ron roared, as he pounded the table. "Who else would have assigned us a biting book?"
Vanessa, Malcolm, Harry, Ron and Hermione were the last to stop clapping and Dumbledore started speaking again.
"Well, I think that's everything of importance." He said "Let the feast begin!"
With his last word golden plates and goblets appeared before them, filled suddenly with food and drink. Everyone quickly dug in.
After the delicious feast Vanessa and the other fifth year Prefects had got up and ushered the first year students to the commodore room. But before she left she informed Jay and Uma that the password was Fortuna Major. When she was done showing the first years Vanessa went down to the common room and hung out with Uma, Jay, Fred, George and Jordan.
In the Slytherin commodore room, Hunter was shown to his room that he was sharing with Axel, Maruis and two other fifth year students named Clyde Humperkin and Todd Boytt. They seemed okay but knew better than just to assume. When he came down he talked to Mal and she told him that she was bunked with Dawn and Maggie and two other girls. They stopped talking as they noticed that the place was quiet. Hunter looked over his shoulder and saw that some of the Slytherin were watching them. Then he saw Lucas looking at him with a glare and confused look.
"So that's your twin." Mal whispered
"Unfortunate. But I doubt he knows that." Hunter muttered before saying. "You need something, Mafloy or are you trying to start something."
"I don't remember telling you my last name." Lucas glared
"No, but I've been told by my girlfriend. You might know her, her name is Vanessa Potter." Hunter said
Some of the guys either cough or let out a dry chuckle while some of the girls let out a low giggle. Draco wanted to chuckle too but knew better not to get on his brother's bad side. Though he had to admit it was strange looking at the two as they kind of look alike, minus the hair color.
"Listen, new boy, Vanessa is mine. So you better back off." Lucas glared
"Funny. Vanessa never told me that. Only thing she told me about you was that you're an arrogant git that can't take no for an answer." Hunter said
"It's obvious why she is dating you. It's only because we look alike." Lucas said
"Really?" Hunter asked
He walked up towards him a little and looked him up and down before shaking his head with a shrug.
"I don't see it. Well maybe the eyes but yours are a bit close together." Hunter said
That earned a few chuckles while Lucas was turning red.
"Your nose is a bit long. And your ears are lopsided." Hunter smirked "You want to know what really separated us?"
"Let me guess, I have class and you don't." Lucas smirked
Draco, Crabb, Goyle and some of Lucas' friends laughed at this.
"Well, I am a gentleman with the ladies but I don't mind beating the crap out of you if I have to." Hunter said, stepping a few inches closer. "Now you listen to me, Blondie. I don't scare that easily. I don't need magic or a bunch of goons to fight my battles. Cross me or any of my friends, you and your little gang have me to deal with."
Lucas looked like was about to make the first move but stopped when the portrait opened.
"What's going on here?" Professor Snape asked, as he walked in. "Now Mr. Malfoy and Mr. Hades you two wouldn't happen to be starting anything...would you."
"No, Professor." The two said at the same time.
"Good. Now what are you all doing? It is past curfew. Off to bed, the lot of you." Snape said
Everyone hurried upstairs to their assigned bedrooms minus Hunter and Lucas. The two just glared at one another.
"That means you two as well." Snape said "Unless you both want detention on your first day."
Hunter was the first to leave and Lucas followed after. Snape watched the two and shook his head. He didn't believe Lucius' letter about Constants' eldest twin son being alive until he saw Hunter himself. The boy had the Black family feature and some of the dark lord's as well. This is gonna be one interesting year.
