Wow, I really took a long while updating this. Sorry that life's been busy peeps.
Ksch! Boom!
Robin jumped out of the way as a star bolt blew up another hot dog stand. He had singe marks all along his uniform, and his titanium cape was missing.
"This is bad. This is really bad." He muttered to himself.
"Fight back you filthy piece of worthart!" Starfire yelled angrily behind him.
Ksch!
A green starbolt exploded in front of him.
"I don't even know what a worthart is!" He yelled back.
"Aughhhhhhh!" Ksch! Ksch! Ksch! Ksch!
Robin ran down a different part of the mall to avoid the line of star bolts. Then he came to an abrupt halt.
It was a dead end.
He turned around, and Starfire was standing in the way. She was smirking. "You have nowhere to run now you troq." She said darkly.
That was a word he knew. Robin looked around himself. "Star, what are you doing, why are you calling me that-" He tried to say to his girlfriend.
"Don't you dare call me by that name! Only my friends are allowed to call me that! And you aren't one of my friends!" Starfire yelled. Her hands blazed a bright green.
Robin looked surprised, and he raised his hands up in surrender. "Star- fire. We can talk this out-"
Starfire put her hands together, and a large green starbolt formed. "Will you go the down cowering, or fight like the bug you are," Starfire said lowly.
Robin frowned. "Well, I guess since you aren't leaving me with much of a choice." He said as he put a hand in his belt. He pulled a disc out.
He threw it to the ground.
Phoosh!
A bright flash of light lit the area, and Starfire covered her eyes.
After a moment, the view cleared. Robin was nowhere in sight.
Starfire turned around. Robin ran around the corner. Picking his titanium cape up off the ground as he did so.
"Arghhhhh!" Starfire growled like a wild animal.
Ksch! Ksch! Ksch! Ksch! Ksch!
She launched star bolts off in all directions as she flew after Robin.
The view showed a green eagle. It slowly opened an eye, and then went very wide-eyed.
The ground was coming up fast. It was a street full of unmoving cars.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
The eagle started to quickly flap its large wings. Trying quickly to slow its descent.
It managed to stop just a few inches above the hood of a car. It morphed back into Beast Boy, who fell the last couple inches onto it.
"Dude, I thought I was a goner there!" He looked around, rubbing his sore head. "What's going on? Where's everyone else? And who's attacking me-"
"There you are." A dry, slightly angered voice said behind him.
The car underneath Beast Boy was encased in black. Beast Boy looked down in surprise. "What- wahhhh!" Beast Boy screamed in terror as the car was launched through the air with him still on it.
He looked up and saw another car covered in black coming towards him. "AHHHHHHHHHHH!" He let out a high-pitched scream, before morphing into a falcon. He quickly flew off the car to the side.
Boom!
The two cars slammed together. Beast Boy turned back into himself in the middle of the street.
Raven appeared in the air above him. "Rae, what are you doing?!" Beast Boy yelled angrily as he looked up, only for his face to pale.
Raven still had one pair of eyes. They were covered with dark, ethereal energy. She also looked very, very pissed off.
"It's Raven, not Rae," Raven said, as three more cars covered in black floated up in the view behind her. "And what I'm doing is sending you to hell."
... Beast Boy turned around and winked at the camera. "If there's anything I learned from this job, it's that you need to run when someone's eyes start to glow."
He morphed into a cheetah and took off down the street faster than an accelerating tesla. An anime fire track was left in his wake burning on the street.
Raven silently took off after him. With her ammo following along behind her in the air.
"He won't get far," Raven promised.
Ksch! Boom!
A blue sonic cannon split through the center of a truck. Cyborg approached and quickly pulled the two pieces apart. There was no one behind the wreckage.
Cyborg dropped the two pieces back to the ground. He was surrounded by different cars, trucks, and semis. "Where are you?!" Cyborg angrily yelled as he looked around himself.
The view changed to his vision. Showing his various scanners looking at all the wreckage around him. A blue ring moved from place to place in his vision, trying to establish a lock on his target.
Twang!
He looked behind himself at the sound. And the blue ring turned red as it finally got a target lock on Adam.
Pow!
A blunted arrow slammed into Cyborg's face, launching him back into the truck he'd just torn apart.
Adam jumped off the truck he had been hiding behind. "Man, snap out of it! It's me, Ada-" Adam tried to say.
Ksch!
A shield quickly appeared on Adam's arm. And it deflected the blue sonic cannon blast up into the air. It hit one of the cables up above, severing it. Adam lowered the shield.
"Are you kidding me!? What the fetch is wrong with you!? That could have killed me!" Adam yelled.
Boom!
A small missile hit the ground in front of Adam, blowing him back off his feet over a line of cars.
The view showed Cyborg, who lowered his arm. The missile socket in his neck closed.
"Yo, what's wrong with me?! Why don't you ask that about yourself man!?" Cyborg yelled angrily.
He charged towards Adam as he got up off the ground again.
"Yahhhh!"
The scene showed the front of the large mall.
Thmmm.
Robin ran out the front sliding doors out into the parking lot. He ran as far as he dared, before taking cover behind a newish-looking Malibu. He was breathing heavily, and his uniform looked to have been put through a barbeque.
At least he had his cape back.
He looked from behind the side of the car.
BOOM!
The sliding doors blew off their hinges, and Starfire came floating out. She looked just about as mad as before.
"Where are you, show yourself, coward!?" She yelled angrily.
Robin hid back behind the car, trying to quiet his pounding heartbeat. Starfire was shown in the background flying out towards a different part of the parking lot.
Robin quickly opened the side of the Malibu and hid in the backseat. He pulled out a small remote device from his belt and clicked the button on it. "I really hope it's close by." He said to himself. "Hell, I hope it's here... wherever we're at."
He tucked the device away and pulled out his T-Comm. It still showed a staticy screen on it. Robin opened it up and looked at the wiring in the back.
"C'mon, why won't you work?" Robin grumbled to himself as he tried to tinker with it.
After a few seconds, he closed it angrily and put it back in his pocket. "This just can't get any worse." He said.
Thump!
Starfire slammed on the hood of the Malibu. Robin looked up from the backseat in surprise as Starfire smirked down at him. "Found you!" She yelled.
She picked up the car off the ground. And Robin almost fell from the backseat into the windshield.
"What's that word Adam likes to use in these kinds of situations… oh yeah, fetch," Robin said.
"And this time-" Starfire was saying.
Phoom! Phoom! BOOM!
Two bright blasts hit Starfire from the side, sending her flying out of sight out into the parking lot.
Thud!
The Malibu slammed back onto the ground.
Pooooo…
The airbags came out in the front part of the car.
Robin quickly opened his door and stumbled out of the Malibu.
Kcchhh!
His R-Cycle parked itself right in front of him. The lasers in the sides went back into the bike. Robin quickly got on it, not putting his helmet on.
"Good bike, very good bike," Robin muttered to himself. He looked behind himself, seeing Starfire was nowhere in sight. "Very, very good bike."
Krrrrr!
He burned rubber and tore off out of the parking lot out of sight.
After a few seconds, Starfire floated back into view above the Malibu. She looked around but saw no sight of her target. All she saw was the tire treads burned into the ground.
"RARGHHHHHHHH!" She screeched. She unleashed her eyebeams.
BOOM!
The white Malibu was left in a bunch of fiery pieces before she took to the sky.
The scene showed a green falcon flying through the air.
It veered to the right.
Boom!
A car slammed into the ground where it had been flying.
It veered to the left.
Boom!
Another car slammed into the ground where it had been.
The falcon turned into a cheetah again and ducked low along the ground. It passed under a dark black barrier.
The cheetah continued to run, and it looked behind itself.
The view showed Raven still calmly following along. Her eyes glowing brightly with energy.
The cheetah faced forward again.
Slam!
The view kept on moving for a couple of seconds, then it screeched to a halt. It backtracked and showed a green cheetah comically faceplanted against another ethereal black wall of energy.
The cheetah morphed back into Beast Boy, who groaned to himself as he held his head. Raven ominously floated in the air above him.
"Now, it's time to make you pay," Raven said lowly, as she lifted her hands up.
The cars all along the sides of the road were covered in black and lifted up into the air all around. Beast Boy looked around himself with wide-eyedfear.
"Rae- Raven! Please stop this! I don't even know what I did this time!" Beast Boy yelled up at her. "Was it the salt in your tea yesterday? If so, I'm really, really sorry about that prank-"
Raven looked coldly down at Beast Boy. Beast Boy felt chills from her stare. "This is payback for what you did to him," Raven said lowly.
"What are you talking about-"
She brought her arms down. And the cars all around were sent flying to Beast Boy's position.
Kckckckckckck!
A sound like the mashing together of many pop bottles went through the air. All the cars compacted themselves on the spot of road. Within a few seconds, a big pile of scrap was in Beast Boy's place.
...
The view showed darkness…
The scrap all around lifted up off the ground. A wave of black energy appeared underneath. Then Raven's face appeared out of the darkness and looked around.
The view showed from her perspective a hole in the center of the road. The sewers could be seen underneath. Bits of green hair led off into the darkness.
"Figures, only scum like Adonis would run away in the sewers," Raven muttered to herself.
Phoomp!
The pile dropped back onto the road, and Raven floated away off the ground.
Bam!
Adam fell back onto the ground. He had several scratches and gashes along his uniform. The shield on his arm disappeared as he got back up.
Cyborg charged again in the view, bringing his fist back for another punch. Adam's steel gauntlets appeared on his hands.
Pow!
Adam punched Cyborg's arm, making his punch miss.
KaPow!
Adam then punched up into Cyborg's breastplate. Despite the man's heavier weight, he was launched back through the air. Adam's gauntlets disappeared off his hands, and sweat fell from his forehead. He looked extremely tired.
"Cyborg?! Why are you fighting me like I'm your enemy!?" Adam yelled at him.
"Are you retarded?!" Cyborg yelled angrily as he got up.
...
Adam froze stock still.
"Are you retarded?! Are you retarded!?" The phrase started to repeat over and over again around him. Yet the words weren't coming from Cyborg. Who started to angrily charge towards him in slow motion.
The view around him darkened further.
"What… what's happening..." Adam said to himself.
Adam looked to his right. A normal, blonde-haired girl walked by in a normal civilian outfit. Then a black-haired tall guy in jeans and a t-shirt.
Adam was surrounded by a horde of normal people moving all around in a school hallway.
"Where am I?" Adam asked.
No one answered. He ran up to someone in the crowd. "Hey, what's-" He started to say.
Someone bumped into Adam's shoulder. "Watch where you're going, retard." The person said as he continued on.
Adam stumbled back. He bumped into another person. "Watch it retard." The person said.
Adam looked around himself in shock. "I didn't mean-" Everyone was seeming to be looking at him now as they passed.
"Leave us alone, retard."
"Go somewhere else, retard."
"We don't want you here, retard."
Adam started to gasp. As if he was short on air. "No… why… why is this-"
Ksch!
Real-life came startling back, as a sonic cannon blast hit Adam in the gut. He fell onto his hands and knees and gasped in pain. He looked up.
KAPOW!
The view showed Adam fly back over a truck, through the air, and over the edge of the bridge. His body limp.
Cyborg ran up to the edge of the bridge. He looked down. The view showed the water of the bay down below. And Adam's body falling towards it.
"Why... why..." Adam's eyes slowly closed.
KerSplash!
Adam's unconscious body fell into the water. Disappearing from view.
Cyborg nodded to himself. "Yo, now that that baddy is down, I need to find the others and figure out what the hell happened to all of us," Cyborg said.
He ran down the bridge toward where his T-Car was parked. Then he got in it and drove away.
The scene faded to darkness...
...
Cough! Cough! Blech! "Ughhhh…"
The view showed Adam coughing up water, and rolling onto his side. He was lying on cement. He started to groan in pain.
"What… what happened-" A gloved hand covered his mouth.
The view expanded, showing a serious Beast Boy. "Don't worry dude, I found you floating in the bay. We're safe here for the moment." Beast Boy said.
Adam opened his eyes, and then looked up at him. "What… what happened to us..." He asked in confusion.
"That's something I'd like to know too."
The view expanded, showing Robin walking with his R-Cycle down the tunnel they were in. Adam and Beast Boy's faces twisted in surprise.
"You don't feel like attacking me, correct?" Robin asked them.
"No, why would we even do that?" Beast Boy asked. Adam remained silent.
"... Come on, we need to find somewhere where we can safely regroup," Robin said as he walked past them. His R-Cycle was off.
"You mean, you're not like, going to randomly attack us?" Beast Boy asked.
Robin paused. Then looked at the two of them. "If you were both attacked by our teammates too, then we need somewhere safe to talk."
Adam and Beast Boy looked at each other. Adam still looked weak. "Isn't this as good a place as any?" Beast Boy asked.
"Didn't I just find you guys walking around down here?" Robin replied. He continued on.
The two looked at each other, and then shrugged their shoulders. Beast Boy helped Adam up and then helped him along down the dark tunnel behind their leader.
The scene changed, showing sewer mesh.
Kch! Krkrkrkr!
A boot hit the sewer mesh out, and it landed on the ground below. Robin came out first. The view showed a secluded grove of trees in the middle of a forest just outside of Jump City by the mountains. A large bank of fog was a mere hundred yards away.
Beast Boy and Adam followed after, and Adam looked at the area in surprise. "How does a fetching sewer line lead out into the middle of a forest?" He asked.
The other two didn't answer. They were simply looking out towards Jump City in the distance. Robin put the kickstand for his R-Cycle down next to him.
"So, who attacked you guys?" Robin asked.
Beast Boy sighed as he sat down on the ground. "Raven." He said.
Adam sat down next to him. A blank look on his face. "Cyborg."
Robin sat down next to his bike. "Starfire." He said.
The three of them looked glumly at the ground…
"This doesn't make any sense," Robin said to himself.
Beast Boy frowned. "Yeah, it was like… Rae didn't even recognize who I was at all." He said.
Robin nodded. "Same. I just couldn't get through to Starfire. It was like me talking was pissing her off." He said.
"... well, Cyborg treated me like I had insulted his baby," Adam said glumly, with his head in between his knees.
It was silent for a moment.
"Maybe it has to be something with this place… something that's affecting them more than it's affecting us." Beast Boy said, looking like he was thinking it over.
"But, what makes us different from them?" Adam asked. "Aren't all of us unique in some way?"
The three looked around themselves. At the dark, dreary atmosphere.
"How about you two sleep on it for now. I'll take first watch." Robin said.
The other two didn't question their leader. Adam simply laid on his side on the ground, while Beast Boy turned into a large green lion. He circled around for a second, before lying down on the grass and closing his eyes. Within moments, both of them were asleep.
Robin faced Jump City while sitting against his R-Cycle. He pulled out a bird-a-rang from his belt and picked up a small, thick piece of wood nearby. He started to whittle at it…
…
…
"Hey…
…
"... ard!...
…
"Hey, Retard! Wake up!"
Adam woke with a start. The scene showed the secluded grove surrounding him. A large green lion slept next to him.
"Wh-What?" Adam said in confusion.
"Is something wrong?"
Robin was still sitting next to his R-Cycle. The thick small stick he'd been holding before was now a figurine of what looked to be a man with a bat symbol on his chest. He was still whittling at parts of it.
Adam shook his head. "No, not really..."
Robin shrugged, eventually setting the finished figurine on the ground next to him. "I wouldn't blame you if there was. Today's been rough on all of us." Robin said, before looking up at him.
There were dried tear tracks running down from under his mask.
Adam blinked. He looked down at the ground. "Did... did fighting your girlfriend hurt?"
"In more ways than one," Robin admitted.
...
"It's just, bad memories again is all. Same as last time." Adam admitted, holding his bruised arm close.
Robin nodded. "Is it worse than last time?" Robin asked.
"Nothing I can't handle," Adam lied.
Robin frowned. "When you want to talk more about it, know that I'm willing to listen," Robin walked over to the sleeping lion with the figurine.
Adam watched as Robin gently put the wood figure next to the lion's face. He rubbed the lion's mane, and the lion purred in its sleep. Robin went back next to his bike.
"He's wanted a figurine of Batman for the longest time. I figured it was the least I could do for him since the girl he likes a lot is trying to kill us." Robin explained as he sat down again.
Adam looked at the lion, then back to Robin. A smile crept onto his face. "You know Robin, you surprise me sometimes."
"Why is that?" Robin asked.
"You almost seem to be cold, but then, you show times when you're like a mother hen to your team," Adam said. "It's surprising really how big a softie you are underneath that leader exterior of yours."
Robin smirked. "Well don't be surprised for long, because you're taking over the watch now since you're awake." He said.
Adam groaned. "Are you kidding me? You literally survive day to day on no sleep unlike the rest of us." Adam joked.
Robin chuckled and laid down next to the bike. "Even a leader has to rest sometimes... Starfire taught me the importance of that." He sounded sad at the end.
Adam moved and sat on Robin's log. He rolled his eyes to himself as a sword appeared in his lap. "Whatever you say, glorious leader." He said to himself while chuckling.
"Hey."
Adam looked back at Robin.
"Your past means nothing. You make your own future." Robin said seriously before he rolled over.
Soon he was asleep.
Adam stared off towards the distant buildings of Jump City. "The memory itself doesn't bother me…"
"I just wish I could know why that word set me off..."
The scene faded to black.
