His smaller hand patted the top of her head and she knelt to hug him. They didn't dare separate for a few moments. Both felt it wasn't real.
"It has been many years since we have seen each other's. Maybe twelve years all together now. It's been to long Sarah, too long."
Letting go of each other slowly she sat down in front of him on the floor and motioned for him to do the same.
"I have no explanation or excuse. I am sorry I didn't believe enough to call you all back."
"I think you have a wonderful excuse. You moved on and started a family. How noble. We all are proud of you."
"You all?"
"Oh, yes us all. Ludo, Sir Didymus and his trusty steed, even Jareth."
"How does he feel about me not calling?"
"You never called for him though?"
"I know I just mean how does he feel about me moving on and never calling for you all?"
Hoggle scratched his head he was having a hard time processing her question.
"He wasn't mad if that's what ya mean?"
"I think so. I think that is what I meant." Sarah smiled at him and wrapped her arms around him again. "I am so happy you are here. It has been a rough year and I am glad a kind soul is here."
"Where is your little one? I don't want to scare her."
"Hoggle my friend you wouldn't scare anyone!"
"You know what I mean."
They both chuckled of course they both knew what he meant. It isn't every day you see a goblin.
"Alright as right as you are I think my sweet Sally would adore you right away. She is staying with my parents in their new condo."
"So the old party house is no more?"
"No more." Their soft laughter took over the room as they were reminded of the times of the crazy goblin parties at the old house.
Sarah gathered her blanket and tossed it to the side and got her coffee mug, "Come on Hoggle this way to the kitchen lets catch up." Hoggle gladly followed.
Her Kitchen was Galley kitchen that poured into a small kitchen nook. It sat her small family just perfectly. Sometimes the painful reminder that her husband didn't sit in his seat anymore plagued her mind all morning. She would even be mad at herself if she didn't grieve him in the moment. There were times where she could go all morning not thinking about him being gone. Then she would be mad at herself for doing that. It was a vicious cycle that she didn't like being a part of at least no more.
She motioned for Hoggle to sit at the table, and he had no problem getting comfortable by the window.
"It is a lovely place to cook your food. This window is wonderful it looks out to all those green plants." Her backyard was covered in Bottlebrush Buckeye. Most of the flowers had gone away but the beautiful green leaves were still hanging around.
"When we first got the place, it had barely anything in that back yard. I really didn't like it at all. My husband bought the first Buckeye, and I couldn't get enough." Sarah drifted in her memories when the bush had finally grown as tall as her. They knew they wanted the whole yard to be filled with the plant. "Thinking about it, it really looks like a labyrinth out there."
Sarah grabbed another mug and proceeded to make Hoggle some coffee. What to talk about was a major issue. There truly was a lot to catch up on. Maybe she should start with her husband. How they met? Sally? His death? She really had no idea where to start.
"I guess it is a good idea you did call and believe in me to be here." Or Hoggle could start the whole thing. Sarah smiled to herself.
"Why?"
"It has to do with the Labyrinth and Jareth." He no more finished his sentence when he saw the concern on Sarah's face. "Oh no my friend nothing horrible. Nothing to worry too much about."
"Too much?"
"I also reckon you know what it is like to be lonely?"
His question hit every part of her. Words these days did seem to have all the power.
"Yes, yes I do know a thing or two about loneliness."
They both sipped on their coffees. Sarah had joined him at the table and with their silence they both looked out the window. A soft rain had started. The rain drops falling on the window made the outside look like another land.
Their thoughts were interrupted with her doorbell ringing.
