Arizona stared at Lucia's kind eyes. "I didn't do it just because of the money. A lot of it was because I didn't want my mother hurt. She's a good person who was just dealt a raw hand...the hand being my father. I just didn't want her hurt, and I wanted a new start for her," Arizona admitted.

"You don't have to explain anything to me or anyone else about your decision. We do strange things for those we love. When I was younger, if someone would have threatened my kids that way, I would be on my back in a second. I mean, legs up, ready to hand him a cigarette afterward...wrong or not."

Arizona burst into laughter at Lucia's overly honest and funny admission. She laughed so hard that she fell on the ground and pulled Lucia with her. The two of them lay among the lush green grass and hay, until their laughter were no more than light giggles. Arizona had to grab her side to ease the pain in her stomach from laughing so hard. Then they both collectively exhaled.

"I needed that," Arizona whispered.

Later that night, Arizona dialed Callie as she lay in bed. Mark had given her a new phone with a new number so she could talk with Callie whenever she wanted. Arizona twisted a curl around her finger until Callie answered her cell phone.

"Hey baby," Callie said groggily into her ear.

"Hey you. Did I wake you up?" Arizona asked. It was only eleven, and Callie usually never went to sleep early.

"No. I just dozed off, but I wasn't in the bed. I'm at my desk," Callie told her.

Of course she was. Where else would she be? Callie couldn't possibly be like most human beings and sleep in a comfortable bed.

"You sound sleepy, let me let you go, and I'll talk to you tomorrow."

"No. I'm awake and I want to hear your voice," Callie said.

Arizona giggled. "I'm not used to this...more romantic side of you."

"Neither am I," Callie admitted.

"I like it though."

"Do you? What else do you like?" Callie asked in her low, seductive voice that drove Arizona crazy.

"Nope, not going there. I'm in your mom's house, Calliope," she whispered on the phone. "I'm not about to talk dirty to you."

She heard Callie chuckle, then sigh.

"You okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. Just a little stressed. I might go for a run later on. Did my mom show you around?"

"Yes she did...and I learned a lot about you." She laughed when she heard Callie groan. "Don't worry, it was all good. Your mom wouldn't dare say anything bad about HER Callie," Arizona mocked. "She really is an amazing woman though. Don't know what the hell happened to you."

"Watch it," Callie teased.

"I met Arizona today."

"Ah, Arizona. She's a looker, isn't she?"

"Yes. She's so beautiful Calliope. You are full of surprises though."

"I wish you were full of me," Callie growled.

"Callie! Stop it!" Arizona yelled, then lowered her voice, while she peered around the room. "Your mom could be listening."

"If my mom is in your room right now while you're trying to sleep, then I have bigger problems than I thought I did," Callie joked.

"Eww, you are so gross. Okay, I'm hanging up. Good night. I love you."

"Good night, baby. And I promise to have everything settled soon. I love you," Callie said. Arizona clicked off the phone and stared up at the ceiling. Settled? Was that code for 'someone had to die' for things to be back to normal? She couldn't lie to herself, she would be glad when this whole thing was over and behind them—but at what cost? She hoped it turned out to be nothing more than some gang members trying to scare someone they had seen enter the restaurant. Yes, that was what she was hoping for. She squeezed her pillow, wishing it were Callie, and closed her eyes.

Callie pulled into the gym parking lot, reading the clock in her car. It was 2:00 a.m., and though her gym was open 24x7, the parking space was mostly deserted, barring two other cars. This was far from her usual workout time, as she tried to work out in the mornings or if it's late night, she just used to go for long runs.

The private gym was mostly empty when Callie made her way towards the treadmill. She was in her workout gear and there was some heavy bass pumping through her AirPods, which is why she didn't hear a certain redhead approaching her from behind.

Callie was feeling a rush of emotions. The late night runs weren't helping her to curb her anxiety anymore, so she had decided to do some heavy workouts tonight instead. As she increased the speed on her treadmill, she heard the familiar voice of her ex-girlfriend.

"Too stressed out?"

Callie immediately brought the treadmill to a halt, and looked at the redhead, who was dressed in a white sports bra and matching shorts, "What are you doing here Penny?", she asked as she moved towards her gym bag to take out her towel to dab herself dry. So much for working out.

"This is a public place. I'm here to work out", Penny said as she pulled out her skipping ropes, and started jumping on it, all the while eyeing Callie devilishly.

Callie stared at Penny, who was putting on a show of bouncing her assets, deliberately on Callie's face. Callie sighed, she neither had the patience, nor the time for Penny's childish game. She stuffed her hoodie in the gym bag, zipped it up & made her way towards the exit. Maybe it's not too late for a long run anyways.

She had just made it to the door when she felt Penny's hand circling her waist from behind & a naked chest pressing onto her back. She immediately whirled around, pushing Penny off, but the redhead lurched on her again, trying to kiss her in a desperate attempt.

"Come on Callie. Let's enjoy for old times sake"

"WHAT THE HELL Penny….Let GO…just Let GO." Callie pushed Penny harshly, who fell on the ground with a loud thud.

"THIS IS ASSAULT BLAKE", Callie sneered as she looked at Penny's naked form on the ground. She still can't believe it that Penny would act so low. God. What did she even ever saw in this woman?

"What? You can't get it up now?" Penny smirked as she stood up and made her way towards her gym bag like nothing happened, "Your girlfriend is not here…I just thought you could use some sex as some stress buster. We used to do it all the time, Callie".

Callie just shook her head in disbelief and turned to leave again—"How do you know Arizona is not in town?"

"I have my sources"

"Penny—" Callie took a deep breath to tame the anger in her voice, "If you have anything to do with the attack on Arizona's restaurant, I swear to god, I'll make your life a living hell"

Penny pulled a t-shirt a over head and wrestled with her yoga pants for a bit and then made her way to Callie again, "I'm not the only one who's pissed off at you Callie….," she said, stepping closer to Callie, invading her personal space, "So easy of you to think it was me."

And with that Penny left the gym, leaving a more confused Callie at her wake.

1 Week Later

Poor Mark. He got the raw end of this hideout deal. He was stuck in a house with two women who did nothing more than talk about Callie and girlie things. Most of the time they would forget he was even there. It wasn't until Arizona asked him why he was forced to stay here with them and was not with his family that he got a chance to explain his presence.

"My wife and kids are fine. I talk to them several times a day. The reason I'm here is because there aren't many people that know where Callie's mom lives. Something similar to the shooting you experienced happened to her a few years ago, so Callie moved her here."

"You don't regret having to live here," Arizona asked Lucia.

"No, not at all. I love living here. I always hated the city. Too crowded and too much noise. My husband loved it though. He wouldn't have wanted to live anywhere else. But it was never my scene," Lucia said, pulling her wavy, raven hair into a bun.

Arizona contemplated Lucia's response. She herself couldn't imagine herself living in hiding or not going to work…following her dreams, but she understands why Lucia might prefer a ranch life. The woman must have had enough.

Arizona's phone began to vibrate. She glanced down at it and didn't recognize the number. She was surprised for a moment because no one has this new number of her. But she decided to answer anyway, hoping that it was Callie calling from another phone. "Excuse me," she said, getting up from the table.

"Hello?" she asked, walking through the sliding glass doors of the kitchen and out into the back yard.

"Arizona? Hello, it's Derek Shepherd," she heard him say.

"Derek! Hi, how are you?"

She heard him chuckle a little, no doubt because of the surprise and enthusiasm in her voice. "I'm fine, Arizona. I actually want to know how you are. I just got back from Spain. I'm so sorry, Arizona. You had to deal with all this, alone" he said.

"Oh, yeah. I'm okay now. It was just—shocking, I guess."

"I can only imagine. I hate you had to go through that, and I'm so glad that you weren't hurt, the restaurant will take few more days to reopen. We have some issues at the insurance company end," he said.

"Thank you for managing everything Derek, I'll be there as soon as possible," Arizona said. Then she waited, but Derek didn't say anything.

"Is everything okay?" she asked him.

"Well, I was wondering if you could answer some questions for me and then perhaps do me a huge favor. I hate to even ask this of you, but-"

"Of course! Anything, Derek. After everything you've done for me, of course you can ask me."

"Thank you, Arizona. This will mean so much to me. I guess, firstly, I know this will be difficult for you, but is there any reason you would think my sister is involved in the attack on you?"

Oh, Arizona didn't want to be in the middle of this.

But she owed Derek big time, and she would never want to go back on her word with him. She wasn't totally convinced it was Amelia's doing, but she wasn't totally unconvinced either.

"Um...I mean, Amelia and Callie don't have the best relationship—well neither do Amelia and I for that matter. I—I never had a reason to suspect her of trying to do something like that. I mean, well, I hate to talk about your sister like this, Derek."

"I know, but Amelia is no angel. I understand, but I'm just trying to figure out what's going on. Please continue, I won't be offended," Derek said.

Arizona was about to speak again when Mark walked outside. He gave her a strange look. "Who are you talking to, Robbins?" he asked.

"Derek Shepherd," she mouthed.

Mark narrowed his eyes on her. "You need to hang up. Now.", he whispered

"Mark, I-,"

"Now, Arizona. This is serious. Let Callie and I handle this. Better yet, hand me the phone, I'll talk to him," Mark suggested, reaching for her cell phone.

Arizona moved it out of his reach and covered the mouthpiece. "No! Mark, when I had no one, Derek was there for me. I'm not about to turn my back on him now. If Callie wants to be mad at me, I'll deal with it, but I'm going to talk to Derek about this."

"Fine, but I have to tell Callie that you were talking to him," Mark said. He turned his back and grumbled something else as he walked back inside.

Arizona sighed. She knew Mark was just doing what he thought was best for her. She should be grateful, but Derek meant a lot to her too. She placed the phone back to her ear.

"Derek? I'm sorry about that."

"No, I'm sorry. I guess I'm causing problems for you," he exhaled.

"It's fine. I can handle it. Um, to finish what we were talking about, I never got any vibe from Amelia that she would ever hurt me, but she did do and say things to get under my skin. And Callie's."

"Like what?"

"Well, the very first night I met her, she had come to Callie's for something, and ended up betting Callie in a pool game. The stakes—well, the stakes being me and Amelia's car," Arizona admitted, still feeling shame from that night.

Arizona could no longer hear Derek breathing. "Derek?"

"I'm here, Arizona. Please continue."

"Okay. Well, Amelia lost the game and seemed really pissed. And, well, then she invited me to this party, and I thought she was finally being nice to me, but it turned out she did it to get under Callie's skin. Amelia had lied to me and said Callie wouldn't be there, but the whole time she knew that Callie would. And—well, she did say that she was glad to know that using me got to Callie so bad. And then that was the last I heard or saw of Amelia," Arizona finished.

After a few minutes of silence, Derek finally spoke. "I'm sorry my sister has been such a troublemaker for you. I just don't understand how she thinks sometimes."

Arizona chewed on her bottom lip. She felt so bad for Derek. He didn't deserve to be going through this.

"Arizona?" he asked.

"Yes?"

"Do you think my sister is capable of something like that?"

Arizona did not want to answer that. Because in all honesty, she wasn't sure, and that might offend Derek.

"Derek, I—I'm not sure, to be totally honest with you."

"But Callie thinks she is," Derek stated.

"Yes."

Derek sighed again. "Arizona, I really hate to ask you to do this, but if I could cash in on a favor, I'd greatly appreciate it. You see, I know my sister isn't perfect. Far from it, and as the years have passed, we've grown apart. A lot. But she's still my sister. She's the only thing I have left besides my kid. And if Meredith were alive, she would want me to protect Amelia in any way I can. I love Amelia, even if she's caused me so many problems. It's just my small family now. I asked Amelia if she caused this, and she looked me in the eyes and said no. And that's all I can ask of her. So, I guess the favor I'm asking of you is—could you talk to Callie for me? I would myself, but she isn't talking to me over the phone and going over there isn't the smartest thing to do in my position at the moment. So, if you could just tell her that I know she's angry, and has every right to be. I would be too, were I was in her place. But if my sister is a target, I can't let that happen and I will defend Amelia by any means necessary. Do you understand what I mean, Arizona?" Derek asked.

Arizona's mouth was dry and she couldn't breathe. Was it really coming down to this? Her palms began to sweat. "Derek, I—I..."

"I would never consider hurting you, Arizona. You have nothing to worry about. But I can't let Callie go after my sister. I just can't. I'm hoping that it won't come to that, which is why I'd like you to speak to Callie for me. Would you?"

"Ye-es," Arizona croaked out. She quickly cleared her throat. "Yes, I'll talk to her."

"Thank you. And I've kept you away for a long time, so I'll let you go. Thanks Arizona, and goodnight," Derek said.

"You're welcome, and goodnight," Arizona whispered, and then clicked off her phone. She took a huge breath of the cold night air before she walked back into the house.

"What did he want?" Mark asked, leaning against the counter.

"He said he asked Amelia if she had anything to do with the shooting the other night. Amelia told him no. And he wants me to let Callie know that and that he will defend his sister if Callie goes after her….how does he got this number?," Arizona asked.

"Derek & Callie have all the numbers of each other" Mark added as he pondered on the conversation

Arizona sat down at the table rubbing her cell phone in her hands. "I guess I should call Callie now."

Arizona spent the rest of the night trying to convince Callie to meet with Derek Shepherd. After a few idle threats and then sweet talking, Callie agreed to at least speak with Derek. Arizona felt as if some steps in the right direction were being taken.

"Callie, our contact finally came up for air, but he said he didn't know who did the shooting. But he can guarantee that it wasn't gang related," Carina reported, as she removed her coat and sat down in front of Callie's desk.

Callie leaned back in her chair. "No shit, so now we're still at square one. Detective Avery wouldn't have been investigating this case if it was just gang related. He's too big for that."

Alex entered. "Mr. Shepherd is waiting downstairs for you, Callie. Want me to bring him up?"

"Thanks Karev. And no, I'll meet him down there."

When Callie reached the bottom step, she quickly shook hands with Derek. There used to be a time when they used to hug each other but now times have changed. Charles, Derek's right hand man was standing in the distance. Alex stood opposite of him staring him down. Charles cleared his throat but Alex didn't flinch.

"Would you like him to come in with us?" Callie asked Derek, glancing over at Charles.

"No, that won't be necessary. I trust you," Derek said, as he followed Callie into her billiard room. Callie closed the door and offered Derek a drink.

"Thank you," Derek said, taking a glass of Scotch. Callie didn't drink, but she leaned against the pool table waiting for Derek to make the first move.

Derek took a small gulp. "So, Callie. First, I want to offer my sincerest, heartfelt apologies for what happened to Arizona."

"You have nothing to apologize for, if you guys had nothing to do with it," Callie dead-panned.

Derek exhaled. "I see. Well, down to business then. I asked Amelia if she was in charge of the hit on Arizona and she said no. That's all I can do is ask her. And since she told me no, I have to believe her."

Callie continued to stare at Derek.

"Callie, I don't want it to come to this, but if you target my sister...I'm going to come back after you."

Callie slowly nodded her head. "Derek, you do what you feel you have to do…..And I'll do what I feel I have to."

"Mr. Torres…..Your father wouldn't want this, Callie."

"My father's dead."

"We used to be friends, Callie…"

"Not anymore though"

Derek shook his head again and swallowed the last of the Scotch in his glass, then placed it on a table with a bang. Callie has always been hot headed, there's no reasoning with her. "Well that's that. Thank you for meeting with me," he said to Callie.

"My pleasure," Callie replied.

Derek turned and walked out of the billiard room. A few seconds later, Carina walked in. "Everything okay, Callie?"

"Find me Amelia Shepherd," Callie said, as she walked around Carina and out of the room.

It had been a full week since Arizona had seen Callie. Although she adored Lucia, she was ready to go back to the city. Back to Callie, her work and her life. And honestly, she was going a bit stir crazy waiting around the house. Mark, for the most part, sat around watching TV and babysitting her, while Lucia would work on her garden.

The day before Arizona had followed an old stable hand around, while Mark tended to the horses, but today seemed to be passing by even more slowly. Callie hadn't called and she hated the fact that she had none of her books to read. She really needed to get out of the house for a while.

Arizona had just finished loading the dishes into the dishwasher when Mark announced that he was heading upstairs to take a quick shower. She noticed his keys sitting on the kitchen counter. She bit her bottom lip then looked outside at the garden. Lucia seemed preoccupied with her plants. She turned to glance down the hallway, and she didn't hear Mark, so she assumed he was already in the bathroom upstairs. She walked over to the counter and quickly picked up his keys. One little visit into town couldn't hurt, right? She'd only be gone just a few minutes, and plus, she wanted to surprise Lucia by cooking tonight. So she was totally justified in picking up some groceries for dinner.

'No harm,' Arizona thought, as she twirled the key ring around her finger and hurriedly exited the house. She knew this would piss Mark off, since he said she wasn't allowed to go anywhere without him, but he'd learn to get over it.

Plus, according to Mark, this town was so small, it's not like anything would happen to her. She finally pulled into a small parking lot and hopped out. She walked down the main street, looking at the old fashioned stores and antique shops. It looked like time had just stood still for this town. She envied some of the people walking by in comfortable clothes, while she kept pulling down this incredibly short, off the shoulder, light yellow dress Cristina had packed. But at least her feet weren't hurting, since she chose to wear her trusty Converse. She was sure Cristina would have fainted seeing her shoe choice with this dress, and for some reason that brought a small smile to her face.

Arizona finally made her way back to the grocery store. She quickly grabbed a few items, and walked back to Mark's car. Arizona mumbled a curse to herself as she adjusted the bags and stuck the keys into the car lock. Just then her phone chimed in, repeatedly. Arizona adjusted the grocery bags in one hand and pulled out her phone. Maybe it was some important text from Callie.

The grocery bags slipped from Arizona's hand and the sidewalk got littered with peaches that had rolled out from the bag. The colour drained from Arizona's face as her hands began to shake at the numerous pictures that have filled her message box.

Pictures of Callie & Penny.

A barely dressed Callie & a naked Penny.

In an intimate embrace.

Arizona felt like she couldn't breathe. The time stamp on the pictures were of just a week ago. There were a number of pictures, in different positions.

Penny hugging Callie from behind.

Penny holding Callie's face & kissing her.

Callie holding Penny's hands.

Arizona was so engrossed in the pictures in front of her that she didn't notice a large black van pulling close to her.

"Miss, do you have the time?" a voice said from the van behind her. Not bothering to turn around, Arizona kept swiping furiously on her phone, when a large hand covered her mouth and yanked her backwards into the van.

Arizona let out a muffled scream, while her arms and legs flailed. She heard the door slam shut right as a damp cloth was placed over her nose and mouth. Soon she became dizzy and everything faded to black.

Mark's hair was still wet when he came downstairs. He looked around and everything seemed so quiet. Too quiet. He walked into the kitchen and opened the sliding glass doors leading out to the back yard. Lucia was still sitting on the ground, tending to her garden. He scanned the yard quickly, but he didn't see Arizona.

"Lucia, where's Arizona?" he asked.

She looked up and wiped her forehead. "She was in the house a few minutes ago. She may have gone up to her room."

Mark nodded and walked upstairs. "Arizona?" he said, as he knocked on her door. After a few moments of silence, he opened the door, but she wasn't in there either. Mark scratched his head as he walked back downstairs and into the kitchen. He was about to check the stables, thinking she could be looking at the horses when he noticed his keys were missing.

"Fuck!" Mark shouted, as he ran to the door. His car was gone. He pulled out his cell phone and dialed her number. It rang and then went to voicemail. "Shit," he groaned, as he dialed her number again and again, each time getting a few rings and then her voicemail.

Mark walked back outside. "Lucia, do you mind if I take your car. Arizona left, and I want to make sure she's alright."

"Yes, you can use my car. The keys are in the first cabinet on the right. I'm sure she is fine. She's been in the house for a week straight. She probably just needed some air," Lucia said, dusting the dirt from her pants.

"Air or not, I still will have to answer Callie, and she is going to be pissed if she finds out I let her out of my sight," Mark complained.

Lucia laughed and patted him on the back, as she walked past him and into the house.

Mark drove into the quiet, small center of the town. Truthfully, the town was only made up of a few old shops, a post office, one grocery store and two small restaurants. It didn't even have its own police station or fire department. They had to share those luxuries with a bigger city a few miles away. So it wouldn't be too hard to find her.

Finally, after just a few minutes of driving around, he spotted his car. He pulled up beside it and hopped out. He looked around to see if she was anywhere near, but when he walked over to the driver's side of the car, he froze and his heart skipped a beat. This was not happening, no, no, NO! His keys were stuck in the lock, while her cell phone and a small bag of groceries were scattered and crushed on the ground.

This was not fucking happening.

"Oh, fuck, fuck, fuck!" Mark whispered to himself. He pulled out his cell phone and took a deep breath. He dialed Callie's number and waited for him to answer.

"Yeah," Callie answered.

"Callie...oh, shit. I swear to God, I came looking for her as soon as I found out she had left" Mark rushed out, "Callie, I think—I think someone took Arizona."

"What did you just say?" he heard Callie ask in a low voice.

"She's gone," Mark huffed out.

Mark squeezed his eyes shut only imagining what Callie must be thinking of him. He had one simple task to do. One simple fucking task. 'Don't let her out of your sight,' Callie had told him before they left for Lucia's. He couldn't hear anything coming from his cell phone. No breathing, no noise, nothing. Was Callie still there?

"Callie?" Mark whispered.

Arizona finally opened her eyes. Her head was swimming and she felt sick to her stomach. She was lying on a cot in the middle of some dingy room. She tried to raise up, but her hands were duct taped behind her, and her feet were bound too. She started to panic. Were it not for the duct tape across her mouth, she would have thrown up. Everything started blurring, as she lost consciousness again.
