Two weeks passed and, despite everything being good, Mckenna still felt lost. She was on her way to Angelos, when a poster on the door of the surf club caught her attention and she went to take a closer look. Interested in the job advertised, Mckenna made her way inside and approached the counter.

"Hi," McKenna greeted, smiling as the man behind it turned to face her, "Are you the person to speak to regarding the lifeguard job?"

"You're interested in the lifeguard job?" the man said, sounding a little surprised, "Do you have any experience?"

"I've gone surfing camp and lifeguard camp most years," Mckenna told him honestly, "I did have my first aid certification, but I'll need to re-do it..."

"We can help you out with that, when would you be able to start?"

"As soon as you need me to, will there be training?"

"Great, we like you to undergo at least six weeks of training with one of our full-time lifeguards, and then you will be on probation for a further four weeks," the man explained, "Can I take your name?"

"Mckenna Braxton."

Just the mention of being a Braxton caused the man to do a double-take, before he continued writing and handed over the application form.

"Okay, so my name is John Palmer, just fill out the application and, since we've had no other interest, I'll see you Monday morning."

Sat at a table near the door, Mckenna filled out the forms and gave them back to John before walking over to Angelos. She'd been helping out at the restaurant as much as possible, not really wanting to be at home with her mom and the lifeguard position would give her something else to focus on.

It was late by the time she finished helping out, but she wasn't ready to go home and went to sit on the beach for a while. She didn't know how long she'd been there, but a shadow falling over her soon snapped her back to reality and she looked up to find Brax watching her concerned.

"Thought you were going home?"

"I was..." Mckenna mumbled as Brax took a seat beside her.

"I know that living with mom isn't easy..."

"That's putting it lightly."

"What's going on in that head of yours, Ace?"

"Being home isn't exactly how I imagined it would be, mom sold most of my stuff and I don't know where my place is anymore," Mckenna admitted, not wanting to hide how she felt anymore, "They told me that it wouldn't be easy, but I thought that I'd be okay because, unlike a majority of the others in there, I actually had a home to come back to... I had a life and I'm just not okay."

"I know how hard it can be to reintegrate into society after spending time inside, but you are going to be okay and I'll make sure of that," Brax promised, wrapping his arm around her shoulders and kissing her head, "It may not seem like it now, but we've got your back and your place will always be here with us. Come on, it's late and I have a sofa that is calling your name."
