It was a couple of hours before Sid returned, letting them know that her blood tests looked clear and that she could go home. Sat in the passenger seat of Brax's Ute a while later, Mckenna rested her head against the cool glass of the window and fought against the sudden exhaustion that she felt.
"You can sleep for a bit when we get home if you want," Brax stated as he glanced over at her.
"Sleep sounds good," Mckenna replied.
They soon arrived back at the house and Mckenna climbed out, waiting for Brax before heading inside.
"Take my bed," her brother told her as she hung up her jacket, earning a nod from Mckenna and watching as she disappeared.
She wasn't sure how long she'd been asleep, but it was dark outside by the time she woke up and found that the house was empty. Not wanting to be on her own, McKenna left the house and made her way over to Angelo's.
"Hey lifesaver," Kyle greeted with a grin as he hugged her, "I thought you were resting?"
"I was..." Mckenna began, following Kyle to the bar and taking a seat on one of the stools.
Not wanting to admit the truth, she shifted anxiously and felt relief wash through her as a large group of customers entered the restaurant. Brax soon emerged from his office and offered her a smile, pushing a bottle of cola in her direction.
"How're you feeling?" Brax inquired as he placed drinks on a tray for Kyle to collect.
"Better... my head isn't hurting as much."
It was late when they finally arrived home and Mckenna went straight to sleep, knowing that she had her first supervised lifeguard shift the following day. She woke up the next morning feeling nervous and made everyone breakfast, before heading over to the Surf Club.
"Nice to see that you are reliable," John commented as she walked through the doors, motioning to a younger guy with his head and continuing, "This is Romeo, he is going to be the one that you will be working with over the next couple of weeks..."
With a nod, Mckenna gave Romeo a small wave and accepted the uniform that John was holding out to her.
"Thanks," Mckenna said, going to get changed and returning to where Romeo was waiting.
"You ready to go?" Romeo asked, earning a nod from Mckenna and leading her down to the beach, "As well beach patrol, we're also in charge of making sure that surfboards are all returned and that they are in good condition for whoever uses them next. A majority of Summer Bay residents have their own boards, so we mainly deal with tourists and it can get pretty heated at times."
"Sounds like heaven," Mckenna replied, glancing up as she heard her name and spotting Xavier walking towards them, "Hey, how are you?"
"I'm good," Xavier replied, "I just wanted to thank you for what you did, you don't know me and you still risked your own life to save mine."
"There's really no thanks needed, I'm just glad that I was there and that I was able to help."
Xavier soon walked away and Mckenna stared after him for a few seconds, before returning her attention to Romeo. She had been sitting with Romeo at their post for nearly two hours, when she spotted Brax with Ricky and waved.
