A/N: Set before S03E01.
Martha has spent weeks working on the Johnny Foster appeal. A date has finally been set for the appeal hearing, coincidentally on the same date as Clive's silk party.
"I can't believe you're missing the biggest night of my life for this appeal." Clive is sulking at his desk.
"I'll only miss the beginning," says Martha. "I'll come straight from the verdict, promise."
"Even if it doesn't go your way?"
"It will go my way. It has to. He's innocent."
"If you say so," says Clive.
"It was a fit-up. The police decided straight away, it had to be the husband who killed her."
"But the forensic evidence…"
"All tampered with. You're just thinking like a prosecutor."
"I am a prosecutor," he points out. "But I did do defence for years. Doing your best for your client is one thing, but you actually believe him?"
Martha glares at him. "Yes, I do. And if you had spent time with him instead of reading what the papers say, you would too. He's vulnerable."
"Alright, save it for the judges." He adds, "You'll definitely come to the party though?" He doesn't want to celebrate finally getting silk without Martha there.
"Wouldn't miss it."
