Hey guys
Hope you all liked the last chapter
Since I had no complaints for the last chapter, I'm hoping you all don't have any more problems with the story.
Previously:
Riley helps Maya decide on a surprise gift for Auggie.
Zay had informed Mr. and Mrs. Matthews that he would be taking their interview, so Topanga had cleaned their living room.
Cory had made sure that he was done with all his work, so that they could easily do the interview without disrupting their schedule too much.
Cory asks, "What time did Zay say he was coming?"
Topanga replies, "He didn't specify the time. He said he'll be here in the evening because he had something to do before. He wants to finish off our interview here because he's supposed to interview Pappy Joe and our lovely kids again after we reach Texas. Zay wants to be done with most of the video by the time the wedding is done, so that he can add the wedding clips and show it to all of us when Lucas and Riley come back from their honeymoon."
Cory groans, "My little girl will get deflowered by that cowboy on her honeymoon"
Topanga replies, "Cory enough. You and I both know that Lucas is the best man we could ever find for our daughter. Riley isn't a little girl anymore and she chose well for herself. You know that Lucas will always respect her and do his best to keep her happy. They haven't even gone past making out because they both want to wait until they are married just like we did. And for your information, this was decided by Lucas because he respects us as Riley's parents. He knows that you don't want your daughter to engage in sexual activities until she's married. Riley told me that once she wanted to cross the line, but Lucas stopped her by making her realise that she might come to regret it later."
Cory sighs and says, "Even when I want to hate him, I can't. Lucas really is the best life partner for our daughter. I'll try to control myself and stop saying mean things to Lucas unnecessarily."
Topanga replies, "Lucas understands where you are coming from and so he doesn't mind anything you say. Riley said that she's worried Lucas might act like you or worse in the future because he's a lot more protective of his loved ones than you are."
Cory says, "But he also knows what it's like to be on the other side, so I think that there's a chance that he might cut his future daughter's boyfriend some slack."
Just then they hear a buzz, so Cory continues, "I'm guessing that's Zay"
Topanga nods and goes to buzz the boy up before bringing out some snacks and drinks for them because she knew that they might take a while to complete the interview.
Zay enters the apartment and says, "Hey Mr. and Mrs. Matthews. How are you doing?"
Cory replies, "Can't complain. Now tell me what do you want to do?"
Zay starts setting up his camera and says, "Well, I was thinking that I'll ask you guys some questions about Lucas and Riley, as in their relationship from your point of view. Sounds good?"
Topanga replies, "I guess so. Now let's all have a seat and get started."
Zay gets ready and Topanga takes her seat beside Cory.
Zay says, "We have the parents here to talk about our lovely couple so let's welcome Cory and Topanga Matthews"
Topanga replies, "Well, we're glad to be a part of our children's wedding. I've known both of the kids for years now and I have to say that Riley and Lucas are perfect for each other. I have watched them grow as people and as a couple over the years, which makes me really proud of both of my kids."
Cory adds, "As much as I would like and prefer for my daughter to stay as my little girl forever, I also know how the story goes. It was inevitable."
Zay asks, "What did you guys think of Lucas when you first met him?"
Cory replies, "Well, I met him on his first day of school in New York when I was teaching about the Civil War and I could see that Riley liked him from the moment she saw him for the first time, according to me. I found it odd because nothing like this had happened before, but later I learnt that Riley had met him already, so it made a bit more sense. I caught them chatting in the cafeteria where I had tried to keep Lucas away from my daughter but unfortunately, he had a good sense of direction. I found it funny that Lucas seemed to know Riley pretty well considering they hadn't really talked till then. Maya had started a homework rebellion and Riley hadn't stopped her like she normally would, which Lucas called her out on. Later there was the assignment where I had taken away their smartphones and sent my students to the library. Riley and Lucas ended up being partners and when she came home that night, she said that they both connected that which really scared me."
Topanga adds, "I still remember when Cory told me that Riley liked some boy in her class. I wanted to know more about the boy, so Cory pulled out his records and that's how we found out about him being expelled. This set off alarms in Cory's head but from what I had heard about that boy, I knew that there was more to the story. So, I told him to calmly talk to Lucas about the matter and that's when we found out that he was very much like Riley, but he just happened to have a temper and some violent tendencies. I was really proud of him for admitting that he needed help, so I got Cory to help him out."
Zay asks, "What exactly happened when Lucas and Riley went on their first date?"
Cory replies, "Well, I had a feeling that Lucas was going to ask my daughter, so I tried to avoid him as much as possible. I even tried to lock him out of the classroom, but the kid was too strong. That kid tricked me to ask for permission to take Riley out on a date. My stupid brother also took his niece's side, so to make myself feel better I got Maya and Farkle to go with them on a double date."
Topanga adds, "I was quite surprised to see that Lucas came to ask for permission. I was more than happy to allow them and I even helped my daughter get ready. Riley was so excited to go out with Lucas, which reminded me of the times I went out with Cory when we were younger. I had a feeling that these two would end up together in the end."
Zay asks, "What do you think about the time when they tried to date before they were ready?"
Topanga replies, "Honestly, I was surprised to see them act so stupidly when they were clearly not ready for a proper relationship. I had seen the front of Riley's notebook, so I had a feeling that they might end up rushing into something they weren't really ready for. I'm just glad that they realised in time that every relationship is different."
Cory adds, "While I was not comfortable with the idea of my daughter being in a relationship, let alone a serious one, I couldn't deny that these two kids needed each other."
Zay says, "I have to know something about your crazy antics. Why do you always chase Lucas out of Riley's room? Also, why did you always steal one of his boots?"
Cory chuckles and replies, "Well, that's just a test. I couldn't let my baby girl go out with just any boy now, could I? I tested Lucas every time I found him in my daughter's room to know if he really liked my daughter, as much as he claimed. Every time he walked back with only one boot on, I feared that he wouldn't come back again. I've watched him walk back with only one boot on in the coldest of months as well. Every time he came back even though he knew that I would steal one of his boots, I grew more and more sure that he truly loves my daughter. No guy would keep coming back to a girl when he knows that he will again lose his boots, unless he really likes the girl. That's why when I was sure that Lucas would never leave, I stopped stealing his boots."
Topanga says, "It also had something to do with something my father told you, didn't it? I know he said something to you after which you became much more paranoid about our daughter."
Cory replies, "Well, your father said that he always kept an eye on Shawn when he should have kept it on me. He felt that you could have gone out with Shawn, but you dated me and then we went on to get married and have kids."
Zay asks, "What do you guys think of Lucas as a person, now that he's officially about to become your son?"
Topanga replies, "Lucas is probably the strongest person I know. He's been through a lot, but he hasn't let it change him too much as a person. Lucas is still the charming young man I met back when he was in seventh grade. He has just matured a bit with time because of his life's experiences. Lucas has become like a role model for Auggie and it's really heart-warming to watch both of them together. They have become brothers by choice and I love the bond they have. We're at the point where we know that if Auggie has any problem, he'll go straight to Lucas and then both of them will sort it out together."
Cory adds, "I somewhat hate to admit it, but the boy grows on you. Lucas was also the first one of Riley's friends that Auggie had bonded with so well. My son won't listen to me, but he'll always listen to his brother in law. Lucas is actually the one that I am most proud of as a teacher."
Zay asks, "Is that why you gave him your blessings to propose to Riley?"
Cory replies, "Lucas is the kind of man every parent would want for their daughter. He respects and cherishes my daughter. What else could I ask for?"
Topanga adds, "But I have to admit that it has been rather entertaining watching Cory freak out every time Riley and Lucas have tried to spend some time alone. Riley hated it, but even she would admit that it's fun to watch Cory and Lucas go around in circles."
Zay says, "Well I've mostly seen this in school only but even the rest of us have enjoyed it. I might just miss it after Lucas and Riley get married."
Cory replies, "You all are just going to have to live with it. I don't think I can go back to even pretending to hate Lucas."
Zay says, "Well then, I guess that's the end of this segment"
With that Zay turns off the camera and starts packing everything.
Topanga asks, "What all do you have left now?"
Zay continues packing and replies, "Well, there's some shopping clip I need to make. Lucas took Riley to get the invitations behind our backs but thankfully Riley managed to click some pictures for me to use. I just have to record the setting up of the altar and of course the freak out Lucas is going to have on his wedding day. After that it's only the wedding clips that will remain."
Cory says, "Lucas really doesn't like you sticking your nose in his matters, does he?"
Zay shakes his head and replies, "Nah, he doesn't but it never stops me. As much as Lucas says that he doesn't want me recording all this, he also doesn't have the heart to tell me to stop. I know he'll appreciate my hard work someday in the future."
Topanga says, "I think Lucas is secretly enjoying this, but he also wants his privacy in some matters. By the way, Josh mentioned that Lucas is planning a surprise for Riley right now, so please don't bother him too much."
Zay chuckles and replies, "Oh don't worry, I know better than to bother Luke when he's planning surprises for Cotton Candy Face. Just recently we came to know that he read a book called 'Language of Flowers' because he wants his gifts for Riley to be meaningful."
Cory says, "That's interesting"
Topanga replies, "I think that it's really sweet of him to put so much thought into his gifts for his better half. Not all men would do something like this."
Cory and Zay simply shake their heads knowing that there's no arguing with Topanga.
Zay says, "I have to ask something, completely off the record. What do you guys think will happen to Riley and Maya after the wedding?"
Topanga replies, "As per my experience, I'm pretty sure that they will always remain best friends just like Shawn and Cory. Their priorities might change with time, but they will always be best friends."
Zay asks, "Are you really sure about that because they haven't exactly been on the best of terms recently?"
Cory replies, "I know that something is going on with the two of them and I'm not completely happy with the way they are handling the situation, but I'm staying out of it so that the two of them make their own mistakes and learn from them. Riley and Maya just need to sit down and talk about the things bothering them once before the wedding. Shawn and I never really had a proper conversation and that resulted in a pretty big fight on the aisle during our wedding. I really regretted not considering Shawn's feelings back then just because I didn't really want to acknowledge the fact that things were going to change between us."
Zay asks, "Do you think these two will also fight on the wedding day?"
Topanga replies, "Well the girls are a lot smarter, plus Josh has also been working on getting them to talk because he already knows about the big Shawn and Cory fight. I'm sure the two of them will sort things out by the end of this week."
Cory adds, "Josh mentioned that he already knows about Maya's side of things, so he's trying to get her to talk about it to Riley. Hopefully things will be alright between them, otherwise Riley will have to look for another Maid of Honour."
Zay asks, "Why does it sound like there is a story behind this?"
Topanga replies, "Well Cory had been forcing Shawn to run several errands which made him so angry that he decided that he wanted nothing to do with the wedding. Eric stood as Cory's Best Man and the idiot forgot about our wedding rings."
Zay asks, "What happened then?"
Cory replies, "Shawn came at the last minute to save the day, but we ended up fighting after that. Thankfully we both sorted things out soon enough and went on with the wedding."
Zay says, "All's well that ends well I guess, but I still hope nothing like this happens at Lucas and Riley's wedding"
Cory replies, "Me too"
They chat for some time before Zay leaves for his home, finally giving Cory and Topanga some alone time.
Looks like Cory is in favour of Maya and Riley talking things out
