A/N: Set in S03E04.
Clive has been sulking for the past hour. Martha can't stand the tension any more and finally says, "I'm sorry, Clive."
"What for? Saying that they only wanted me as special counsel to wind you up?"
"Yeah, that was a bit harsh."
"I do know what I'm doing here, Marth. It's not all about you."
"I know. You're very good." She can't resist adding, "Elizabeth certainly seems to think so."
"Is that what this is about? You're jealous?" He smiles, seeming to like the idea.
"No. I just don't like her."
"You don't like me talking to any woman. Which is odd because you made it pretty clear that you don't want me for yourself."
"Don't flatter yourself, Clive."
"Where do you get off being jealous when you have your mystery man delivering flowers to chambers? You won't even tell me who he is."
"His name's Sean and we were at school together. Satisfied?"
"Not really."
She glowers at him. "You said you were sick of us always being against each other. But now you're going all out for head of chambers, and then you take this job working against me."
"Special counsel is impartial. I'm not for or against you, or Elizabeth."
"Oh, Elizabeth, is it?"
Clive gets to his feet, pushing his papers aside. He walks past her desk, reaching out to touch the flowers that Sean delivered.
"You're jealous," he says, sounding very pleased with himself. She restrains herself from throwing the vase at him as he leaves the room.
