The cell door is finally opened and the guards manage to restrain Sean. Clive, who has clearly come off worst from the fight, is on the floor.

"Clive!" Martha runs over to him and in spite of the pain he's in Clive has a mental celebration. She came to me first. He looks up to see the guards escorting Sean out, presumably to another cell. He reaches up to wipe the blood off his lip.

"Are you hurt?" Martha kneels in front of him.

"No, I'm fine."

Seeing that he is, in fact, fine, apart from a few soon-to-be bruises, Martha sits back, the concern on her face being replaced with irritation. "What the hell happened?"

"He went for me."

"Why?"

"What do you mean, why?"

"What were you fighting about?"

"You," he says honestly. He can still hear Sean's voice, the smug I get it. You're in love with her, aren't you? Am I right? Sean must have heard the softness in Clive's voice when he talked about Martha. He's the second person in a matter of days to accuse Clive of being in love with her, the first one being Harriet, when he was trying to get her into bed, no less. He could tell Martha what Sean said, but he's had quite enough humiliation for today and doesn't need another rejection on top of being beaten up by an oik several inches shorter than him.

"For God's sake." Martha looks exasperated rather than flattered. "I turn my back for two seconds—"

"It wasn't me, it was him!"

"What, he just went for you for no reason?"

"Yes!" Martha looks sceptical. "Come on Marth, I'm not violent. You think I just decided to start a punch-up with someone on trial for murder?"

"You should get checked out." Martha stands up. "I need to go and see Sean."

"You're not still going to represent him?" Martha doesn't answer, just sweeps towards the cell door. Clive is left wondering, if it's so obvious to Sean and Harriet how he feels about Martha, why Martha herself can't seem to see it.
