Hey, everybody. Back with another chapter.
So, this is the last chapter of this story. I know it's been a relatively short story, but I hope you still liked it.
Let's get to it.
Chapter 10- Uncertain Victory
Barry smiles as he and Johnny emerge from the breach in the Baxter Building. While that whole fight could've gone better, in the end, it worked out.
As he and Johnny emerge, Barry sees Reed, Sue, and Ben all standing around a desk, staring anxiously at the breach. Once the two come through, they visibly look relieved. Well, at least Ben and Sue do. Barry still has trouble discerning some of Ben's emotions now that he's made of rock.
"Barry! Johnny!" Sue exclaims as they come through.
"Don't worry, sis. We're fine," Johnny says.
Sue looks relieved. The group is silent for several moments before Reed finally speaks up and says, "So. Barry, what did Victor want with you? It's clear now that he and Thawne didn't send Hydro Man to get us involved. They sent him here to lure you back. What did he want?"
Barry looks at Reed before he says, "He wanted my speed."
"What?" Reed asks, eyes widening a bit.
"He wanted my speed. That's what machine was. He and Thawne built it together, and it would suck all the Speed Force out of me. It's not impossible. A speedster named Zoom did to me years ago, though I soon managed to get my powers back. Doom said, if he could get my speed, he'd be unstoppable, and the world would be his," Barry says.
"Yup. Classic psychopathic bad guy," Johnny says.
"Well, Doom's not wrong. He's already incredibly powerful. If he had my speed as well, trust me, he'd be nearly unstoppable. Personally, if he got my speed…I think that if he got my speed, the only thing that might be able to stop him would be the Infinity Stones, which are what Thanos used to wipe out half of all life," Barry says.
Reed nods. "Well, it's a good thing we got you out of there, then," he says.
"Yes. But it's not over. Thawne escaped, and Doom is still out there. This plan may have been foiled, but they'll be crafting more. And there's nothing preventing them from teaming up again in the future," Barry says.
"Where do you think Thawne went?" Sue asks.
"I don't know. He could be anywhere, or anywhen. We have no way of knowing, or when he'll show up again," Barry replies. He then turns to Reed and says, "I want you to do something Reed. You're one of the brightest minds on this planet. I want you to try and build something that might be able to detect Thawne if he ever returns."
"Well, I can try. I'll need readings on a speedster in action so I know what to scan for," Reed says.
"Well, you can get those readings while I tell you a little bit more about my powers. I mean, you did ask for that, right?" Barry says.
Reed grins. "This is gonna be fun," he says.
(Two days later)
Barry zips up a back with the few things he brought to Earth-99 and slings it around his back. He then turns to Reed, who is waiting a few feet away, and he says, "Thank you for all your help, Reed. Thank you for calling me here when Morris went berserk, and thank you for rescuing me from Doom."
"Of course, Barry. We owe you thanks as well for helping to stop Thawne and Victor's plans. And for being a friend as well," Reed says.
Barry grins and extends his hand, which Reed happily takes, and the two shake hands. "It's been fun, Reed. But I'm sure Wanda will be anxious for me to come home. And don't worry. Wanda and I will come over for the wedding," he says.
"Well, me and Sue finally decided on a date and venue. It'll be March 10th," Reed says.
Barry smiles. "Well, I'll put it on the calendar," he says. He then pulls out his extrapolator, turns around, and presses the button, opening a breach.
As Barry steps towards the breach, Reed says, "Barry." Barry turns to face Reed, and sees he's now looking serious.
"Be careful, Barry. Thawne's still out there, and after allying with him, we don't know what else Victor might be capable of. So…just watch your back," he says.
Barry nods. "I will, Reed," he says. He then turns and walks through the breach. Reed watches him go, doubt still gnawing at him.
(Earth-1, Allen Farm)
Wanda smiles as she watches Nora and Stephen play with Max and Lady, two young dogs that she and Barry got for the twins a month ago. She still finds it amazing that these two innocent little children, in another timeline, grew up into truly amazing people and heroes.
Suddenly, she hears a breach opening. She turns to the side and sees a breach swirling in the air a few feet away. A moment later, Barry steps out of it.
"Barry!" she cries out as she runs over to him and hugs him. He immediately hugs her back and gives her a quick kiss.
"I was worried about you! You were taking so long to come back," she says.
"I'm sorry honey. But, it took us a little while, and then I was working with Reed on an important project that I had to do before I came back," he says. He had told Wanda about Reed and the rest of the Fantastic Four after he came back from Earth-99 after meeting them the first time.
"What happened?" Wanda asks.
"Morris showed up going crazy. Turns out he was under mind control. When me and the Fantastic Four worked to find out who was behind it, we found out it was this guy named Doctor Doom…and Thawne," he says.
Wanda reacts a bit to hearing the name Doctor Doom, as Doom had taken power in Latveria shortly before she had joined the Avengers. She remembered hearing about it while she in the HYDRA base. However, when Barry says Thawne's name, her eyes go wide.
"Thawne?" she asks in shock.
"Yes. He came to this time and to Earth-99, and was working with Doom. He promised Doom to help steal my speed if Doom would help him kill me. I was a little too cocky and tried to sneak into Doom's palace, and he captured me. Thankfully, the Fantastic Four rescued me and we drove off Thawne before we had to retreat from Doom," Barry says.
Wanda hugs him again. "I'm so glad you're safe," she says.
"I know. I just…when will I finally be rid of Thawne. Every time I think I won't ever see him again, he returns," Barry says.
"I don't know, Barry. But I do know, that if he shows up again, I'll be there to help you fight him," Wanda says.
Barry smiles down at her. "And that bravery is one of the many things I love about you," he says before kissing her again.
Right then, Nora and Stephen notice Barry. "Daddy!" Nora cries out, and she and Stephen hurry over to him.
"My little runners!" Barry says happily, as he gets down on his knees. Nora and Stephen race up and hug him, right before Max and Lady pounce on Barry, knocking him over. Barry laughs as his children and dogs express their delight at his return. This is what happiness feels like.
(Earth-99, New York City, 1 day later)
Sue looks at Reed, rather concerned. They had decided to go on a walk, but Reed hadn't said a word the entire time.
Finally, Sue speaks up and asks, "Reed. What's wrong? You haven't said a word this entire time."
Reed turns to Sue. "Sorry, Sue. Something's just been nagging at me the last few days," he says.
"What do you mean?" Sue asks.
"Our escape from Victor. It felt…almost too easy. Almost like he let us go. I think he could've stopped us if he wanted to. But he didn't," Reed says.
"So, what are you thinking?" Sue asks.
"I just can't help but feel…even though we freed Barry and drove off Thawne, somehow…Victor still got what he wanted," Reed says.
Sue just looks at her fiancée with concern. Suddenly, up ahead, they hear, "Hey, my purse!"
They look up and see a young couple running after a man who looks to be in his 20s. The man looks a little ragged and is clutching a purse.
Reed and Sue glance at each other, then grin. Reed stretches out his arm and snatches the purse out of the thief's hands. Before the thief can react, Sue conjures a force cage around the thief, preventing him from moving.
Everyone sees Reed and Sue and begins to cheer. Reed smiles as he stretches out his arm to the young woman to return her purse. Two NYPD officers run up to the thief, and Sue lowers the force cage, allowing them to arrest him.
As this is going on, an old man with glasses and a mustache, sitting on a nearby bench while reading a newspaper, lowers his paper, and looks over at Reed and Sue.
"Why are there so many super heroes in New York?" the man asks to himself.
(Latveria)
Doom types several keys under the display screen he's standing in front of, calibrating his machine. Then, he reaches into the folds of his cloak, and pulls out a small cylinder. Inside is a tiny amount of blood. Barry Allen's blood.
"Well, Allen. You may have escaped and taken my chance to gain the Speed Force for now. But if you think you stopped me, think again," he says before sliding the cylinder into his machine, ready to begin his study of the blood and the Speed Force energy in Barry's cells.
As he watches the readings from Barry's blood begin to come on the screen, alongside reading from a sample of Thawne's blood that Doom convinced Thawne to give him, the smallest of smiles appears on his face, hidden under his mask.
"It won't be long until Novu makes his move. Once he does, it won't be long before the crisis comes," Doom mutters to himself.
And, I'll end there. Hope you liked that Stan Lee cameo in New York.
Now, first off, I changed my mind regarding the actor playing Doom. Now, the actor playing Doom is Alan Tudyk. I originally thought of changing it to Sasha Roiz, but after a reviewer suggested Tudyk, I decided to go with him. However, Keanu Reeves will take up a role in the MACU very soon.
So, yes, Dr. Doom knows of Mar Novu. In this universe, similar to the comics, he travelled the world and trained under an order of sorcerors. In this universe, he learned of the Monitor through that group. And, he knows of the impending crisis. That's partly why he captured Barry, to gain his speed so he could use it along with his own powers when the crisis comes. I hope you like it.
I decided to do it this way because I was inspired by the old TV show Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. In that, Dr. Doom is portrayed as a villain, but also kind of as a hero, because he's shown to know of the Skrull threat and is secretly hunting for them. He even helps Tony upgrade his suit to be able to track Skrulls and reveal their true selves. So, in this, I decided to take a similar approach, with Doom being a villain, but also be secretly working to prepare for the coming crisis. I'm still planning out how exactly to involve Doom in my version of Crisis, but he will play an important part.
Now, the next main story will be centered around Oliver and Natasha, and introduce another new hero into the MACU. I will spoil that it is a hero already confirmed to come into the MCU. So feel free to guess appropriately. Although, I won't reveal it until I actually show it in the story.
Now, there are only two major stories left in Phase 2. I may do a brief one shot about Reed and Sue's wedding, set before the finale story, but Phase 2 is almost over. I know, it's been a little short, and definitely shorter than Phase 1. However, I do promise that I will try and make Phase 3 longer than Phase 2.
But, wait. We forgot one of my traditions. An end credits scene, right?
(Torfa)
A colony of native Torfans huddle around a fire. Torfa has continued to be ravaged as a result of the Kree-Skrull war. Pretty much all of the native Torfans have been reduced to scavenging refugees. The planet has fallen far from its once greater glory days.
Suddenly, they hear it. A rumbling greater than anything they've ever heard. It seems to shake the very ground beneath them.
Fear begins to take hold in the Torfans. Fear of what this could mean. They've heard the rumors. They fear he's come at last.
Slowly, the Torfans look up. A massive ship, bigger than a city, bigger than an asteroid, descends slowly into the atmosphere.
Then, they hear it. A strange, whishing sound. As they watch, a streak of silver energy moves through the sky overhead, flying in strange patterns over the land before it comes to a halt over the camp.
The streak is revealed to be a humanoid figure. His body looks to be entirely made of silver, and he's riding on something that looks like an surf board on Earth.
The figure looks down at the native Torfans, and with a tone to his voice that suggests he's almost sorry, he says in a voice that echoes over the surrounding plains, "Natives of Torfa. Hear me now! I am the herald of the Devourer! All that you know is at an end, for Galactus hungers!"
HAHAHA! Yes, Galactus has entered the game as has the Silver Surfer.
Technically, Galactus already entered the game, because he was the one who devastated Daxam in this universe. Nebula alluded to him in Worlds Collide, Heroes Unite. I will also confirm that Galactuc will be the villain of the finale of Phase 3, though we will see him again before then. Leave my actor suggestions for Silver Surfer. I already have an actor picked out for Galactus.
And with that, I bring this story to an end. I really hope you liked it. Let me know if you'd like the one shot of Reed and Sue's wedding. Start getting excited for the next story. Leave a review. And as always, stay tuned!
