Hey, everybody. Back with another chapter.
Let's get to it.
Bl4ckHunter: Yeah, I won't have them actually show up in this story. I plan for Yelena to at least make a cameo in the next story, the finale of Phase 2, and possibly Alexei too, but I'll probably refrain from including them in a major role until I've seen the move. Dang pandemic, delaying all the good movies!
heroflow1000: My version of Crisis on Infinite Earths will be the final story in the MACU. I'm probably a year away from even starting it, as I have 4 Phases planned out, and we're not even done with Phase 2 yet.
Guest: If I ever use the character of Mr. Sinister, that is a great idea for casting. Not sure if I'll ever use Mr. Sinister, but I'll think about it.
Chapter 6- Caught in the Crossfire
Natasha scans the computer screen, going through the various reports on Moon Knight's activities. She and Oliver have been trying to find a pattern in Moon Knight's appearances to get an idea of where he might show up next.
"I think I found a pattern," Oliver says. Natasha quickly scoots her chair over beside Oliver.
Oliver points to his screen. "I've mapped out Moon Knight's reported appearances. Even time he comes south, it seems like he gets further and further south every time before heading back north. If I'm reading the pattern right, he'll finally make it to San Diego sometime very soon before he heads back up towards the area of San Francisco," he says.
"Hmm. I guess it's better than what we've found so far," Natasha says.
Suddenly, Natasha's phone begins to ring. "Excuse me" she says before walking a few steps away to answer the call.
"Hey. I looked into the man you discussed with me. An acquaintance of mine spotted him in San Diego just last night," a familiar female voice says in a Russian accent.
"Thank you. Let me know if you get anything else," Natasha says before hanging up the phone.
Natasha then turns to Oliver and says, "That was a friend of mine I asked to look into this. She said an acquaintance of hers spotted Moon Knight in San Diego last night. If we go looking for him down there tonight, we might be able to catch him."
Oliver smiles. "Well, I guess we're going down to San Diego. Why don't we have a date on the beach while we're at it?" he asks.
Natasha smiles. "Sure. Why not? I haven't been to the beach in who knows how long," she responds.
(That night)
Natasha slowly makes her way down a street, keeping in the shadows as much as she can. Her earpiece is tuned in to a police scanner. Something that Tony put together for them.
She and Oliver had come to San Diego hours ago, and had a brief date at the beach at La Jolla, followed up by dinner at a nearby café before they set out to patrol San Diego, looking for any sign of Moon Knight. Natasha is wearing a hoodie to keep her face hidden, not wanting to draw attention. That would just make the hunt harder.
Natasha taps her earpiece and says, "Any sign of him?"
"Nothing. Looks like our friend won't be found if he doesn't want to be found," Oliver says.
"Maybe he's already moved on to somewhere else," Natasha says.
"The night is still young. I think we should keep looking for a while longer before we give up," Oliver says.
"Okay. We'll meet up at the Midway at 2 AM," Natasha says.
"Sounds good. Keep checking back in," Oliver says.
Natasha keeps walking down the street, heading into a less lit area. This is an area known for being more frequent with crime. This area is definitely going to be one of the more likely spots for Moon Knight to show himself.
As Natasha walks, a man walks out of a side street with a knife in his hand, then stops right in front of Natasha and holds out the knife. "Wallet. Phone. Now," the man says.
Natasha stops, then reaches up and flips her hood back. The man's eyes widen as he recognizes he's facing the Black Widow. He turns to run, but only makes it a few steps before Natasha raises one of her arms and fires a taser disk from her Widow's Bite, which hits the man in the back and takes him down.
"Serves you right for trying to mug an Avenger," Natasha says to the unconscious mugger as she walks right past him.
As she walks past the mugger, her earpiece suddenly comes to life with a transmission going over the police network. "All units, we have two masked men duking it out with each other. Confirmation one of the individuals is the white suited vigilante," the transmission says.
Natasha is instantly on alert, listening intently. She hears the police describe the location, and smiles as she realizes it's only about two blocks away from where she is.
Natasha instantly starts sprinting in the direction of the spot the police indicated. Knowing from the transmission that there's someone there besides just Moon Knight, she readies her Widow's Bite gauntlets.
Finally, Natasha rounds a corner. And she stops short at the sight she sees.
Feet away from her is the body of a cop with a dart in his throat. She immediately guesses that he's the officer who sent out the call over the police network.
About 30 feet away, two men in similar suits are fighting tooth and nail, each wielding a bo staff. One she immediately recognizes as Moon Knight. However, the other man is wearing a suit that is physically almost identical, but is instead more of a tan/grey color, and the crescent on his chest is oriented in the opposite direction of the crescent on Moon Knight's chest.
Natasha stands there for a second before she sees Moon Knight get knocked back by a powerful kick from the other masked man. Without hesitation, Natasha sprints forward, drawing her electric batons from where they're hidden under her jacket.
The other man hears her coming and turns to face her, barely managing to block one of her batons with his bo staff. Natasha jabs her batons at him several times, but the man manages to block each strike before grabbing a razor sharp metal crescent off his belt and throwing it at her. The crescent slices across her leg, causing Natasha to grit her teeth from the pain.
Moon Knight charges back into the fight and attacks the other masked man. Together, he and Natasha press their attack, slowly forcing him back, but it's clear this man is skilled, and he's fighting them in a way that he's preventing them from dividing his attention too much.
After a minute of this fighting, Moon Knight forces the other man back, then pulls out a pair of smoke grenades and throws them down. The smoke grenades burst and instantly envelop them in smoke.
"Come on!" Moon Knight says, grabbing Natasha's hand and pulling her away from the scene. The two run down the street before Moon Knight pulls out a grappling gun. The cable hauls him up, and he grabs Natasha's hand, pulling her with him.
As they disappear onto the roof of the building, the smoke clears. The other masked man looks around but sees no sign of them. Hearing police sirens coming closer, the man takes off down the street to make his escape. As he does, he says under his breath, "You can't escape me forever, brother. I will find you and kill you."
And, I'll end there. I know, short, but I thought it was a good stopping point.
So, the masked man fighting with Moon Knight is Shadow Knight, whose secret identity is Randal Spector, Moon Knight's estranged brother. Shadow Knight is one of Moon Knight's biggest and most dangerous enemies from the comics, so I decided to use him here.
So, next chapter will be Moon Knight revealing his identity and backstory to Natasha, as well as the backstory of his feud with his brother. I hope you're excited for it, and I'll try and have it up soon. Until it is up, please leave a review, and stay tuned!
