Reyna POV
Camp Jupiter

I was walking down the Via Praetoria to the cohorts, checking on the legion's progress. It was an unusually windy and cold day; I had to cover my arms with a toga. Aquilo, the god of the North Wind, must have been very angry.

I wore a purple toga, symbolizing my praetorship. Well, mine and Jason's praetorship, since he was raised on a shield after the battle of Mount Othrys and I was elected a year ago. But the new praetorships didn't wash away the fact that many demigods had died that week. It was a heartbreaking day.

I still had a naive hope that Jason and I would get involved romantically, but it never would have happened. Even if we were in a relationship, neither of us would be happy. Lady Venus even said no demigod would heal my heart! I was angry at the goddess, but now I've come to accept it. I'm fine with living without a romantic partner.

Today was an important day because Nico di Angelo, the ambassador of Pluto, was coming for the afternoon and the war games were being held tonight. I missed participating in the games, defending or attacking the castle. After all, my mother is Bellona, the goddess of War. It is in my blood to fight. Being a referee doesn't satisfy my instincts.

I saw some shadows grow under a tree, with Nico di Angelo stepping out of them. I stopped walking, looking at him suspiciously. He usually shadow-travelled near the barracks, not in the Via Praetoria. What was so important?

Nico shouted, "Reyna! Come here!"

I jogged to the tree, frowning. "What?"

"Shh." Nico lifted his index finger to his lips. "I received alarming news from Pluto. A prophecy is going to be fulfilled."

"What do you mean? What type of prophecy?"

"It's a great prophecy. Pluto hadn't told me, so I was hoping Octavian knew what it was."

Ah, Octavian. The augur of Camp Jupiter. I definitely did not like him, with his slimy and cowardly attitudes. Not only were they harmful, they were distinctly un-roman. But, he was a good predictor of prophecies, so I tolerated him.

"Well, let's go see Octavian then," I said.

We walked back to the temples where Octavian should be. On the way, we picked up Jason and told him the whole situation.

Jason asked, "Do we really need to talk to Octavian for the prophecy? I'm sure Lord Pluto can tell it to Nico."

Nico shook his head. "No. My father said I had to find the prophecy here. Plus, Octavian is the augur, the guy who reads prophecies. This one should not be any different."

"I know you don't like him, Jason, but that can't interfere with our jobs," I added.

Jason sighed and slumped his shoulders like a child. "Fine. Let's go to the Temple of Jupiter."

We found Octavian, surprise, not killing a stuffed animal. (He used so many of them; the teddy bear industry must be rich from just him!)

The augur was walking down the steps on the Temple of Jupiter, looking worried. Octavian noticed us and ran towards me. "Praetor Reyna, thank gods you're here. I need to tell you something right now."

He looked at Jason and Nico, addressing them mockingly. "Praetor Jason, Ambassador." Jason frowned at the disrespect, but Nico rolled his eyes and looked upwards.

"Are you sure we need them here?" Octavian whispered.

I sighed. Why did he hate everyone except me?! It was getting on my nerves. "Jason's a praetor. Try not to forget he has a higher rank than you. And Nico's staying here."

Octavian huffed and said aloud, "Well, the gods have told me that there is an important prophecy taking place."

"The gods talked to you?" Nico asked.

"Not really. They signalled it when I read the entrails of a teddy bear."

I had no idea how Octavian worked his magic and received signals from the gods, but I wasn't complaining. Auguries and divination were confusing!

"Yeah. Pluto told me there was a major prophecy, but he didn't tell it to me," Nico commented.

"I didn't receive the prophecy. If I make a sacrifice, I'll know," Octavian said.

"Reyna, this proves that Nico should not stay in Camp Jupiter. His father's disloyalty to the gods is so strong he can't tell his son a prophecy," Octavian pleaded, his hands open in front.

Octavian turned around to face Nico "You hear that? Pluto doesn't even trust you with the prophecy. How loyal and important is Pluto anyways?! At least Lord Apollo will tell me if I make a sacrifice."

This was the wrongest card to ever play in front of Nico. He was extremely loyal to Pluto and revered him. Octavian insulting the god was going to get him hurt badly.

And I was right.

Nico's eyes turned into this soul-crushing black, his fists started shaking, and the Earth around Octavian started rumbling!

Luckily, Jason, who was next to Nico, opened his fists and hugged him from the back.

"Relax, Nico. Don't try to kill Octavian. He's not worth it," Jason whispered soothingly, close to Nico's ear.

This seemed to calm Nico down since the Earth stopped rumbling and his eyes went back to the normal black. Crisis averted!

Suddenly, a skeleton hand grabbed Octavian's foot and pulled back, tripping Octavian! Nico loomed over him, his eyes turning a tint of red, looking like blood mixed with obsidian. They looked like the darkest pits of Tartarus!

His aura even started expanding, this void-black color! As if even colors were afraid of being around him. Once again, I was reminded of the immense power children of Pluto had.

Nico threatened menacingly, "Octavian, my father, the Lord of Death, can make you vanish to the Fields of Punishment. Treat my father with respect or I will drag you down there myself. Do you understand?"

Octavian looked terrified and looked at me pleadingly, hoping I would save him. Well, he got into this mess, so he has to do this on his own. No help from me. (It sounds terrible that I didn't feel bad for Octavian, but after all he did, he deserved it.)

Realizing all hope was lost, Octavian nodded and looked down. "Fine."

Nico snorted, grabbing Octavian's hand and pulling him up forcefully. "Now sacrifice your little teddy bears and tell us the prophecy," he said mockingly. "And my father trusts this camp and the gods enough that he believes I will find the prophecy here. He's not disloyal."

Octavian dusted himself off and grumbled, likely thinking of ways to get back at Nico. I wasn't worried about him; Nico could handle himself. Octavian led us to the Temple of Jupiter.

Jason whispered to me, "I've been waiting for someone to do that to Octavian for a long time. Nico was the right person to do it."

I couldn't help but agree. Children of Pluto, Nico especially, held long grudges and were extremely vengeful. What could happen if someone threatened Nico's loved ones? Or a future girlfriend?

Once we arrived at the Temple of Jupiter, Octavian took a teddy bear from some rack and put it on a table. He slashed it a couple times with a knife, leaving stuffing all over the table. He grabbed clumps of stuffing and sniffed it.

Octavian then closed his eyes for a couple seconds, probably contacting the gods, until he exclaimed, "The gods have told the prophecy!"

Jason asked, "What is it?"

Octavian recited the prophecy:

In the crossroads of East and West

Half-bloods combined fight a contest

Air, Water, Earth unlock the cage

Wars break out with enemies' rage

Then sour rivals become best friends

Feud between Rome and Greece now ends

Nico POV

Apollo was crazy.

Why the Tartarus did he allow Octavian to get the prophecy?

I knew that Apollo couldn't control the oracle of Delphi or prophecies, but he could restrict who knew about them.

Combining Romans and Greeks was a terrible idea, at least to my father. There was a major conflict the last time they knew about each other. You know, it's called the Civil War! Killed hundreds of demigods!

But Hades had sent me here to hear the prophecy. He must have known it involved combining the two groups. The guy who preached about never letting Romans and Greeks know about each other now sent me to learn about a prophecy involving those groups.

It couldn't have been a coincidence.

So why did my father lie?

Jason and Reyna looked downcast, probably because they didn't want to fight the war in the prophecy. Another war just a year apart from the Titan War! Octavian looked confused and started muttering things under his breath.

Reyna looked at me to see if I had any answers. I shrugged my shoulders to show that I had no idea what was going on. (I knew about the Greeks and the last two lines of the prophecy, but nothing else.)

Reyna cleared her throat. "Well, this prophecy indicates that there is a new enemy and that we will have to work with some other group. The rumors of the Graeci must be true, then."

She looked at Octavian. "Since Lord Apollo allowed this prophecy, try to contact him to find out anything else about this situation."

"The war games tonight are cancelled. We'll be having a senate meeting after dinner about the prophecy. We will discuss the matter of the Greeks then. Contact Lord Pluto to see if he can tell us anything extra about this prophecy," Jason said, the last part looking at me.

"Nico, maybe slip in something about Greek demigods to Pluto to see if he slips up." Jason whispered, probably thinking that it was a genius plan.

Nope! Pluto already knew about Camp Half-Blood and what I do. I'd explain who I was later. Maybe at the senate meeting.

"I don't take orders from anyone, Grace. But I'll go to the Underworld."

I ran into a shadow of a pillar and dissolved into shadows and darkness, aiming for Hades' palace.

The Underworld

I shadow-travelled in front of Hades' throne. I couldn't get my balance right, so I fell down and scraped my knee against the marble floor.

Ouch! At least I was wearing pants, so there would only be a small burn. I'd check on it later.

Hades, sitting on his throne, looked amused at my position and chuckled. Right. The fall made it look like I was kneeling in front of him, which is something I never did. The most I ever did was a bow.

"It's not funny." I grumbled, standing. "I haven't totally mastered shadow-travelling."

Hades chuckled, again! "Let me tell you a piece of advice. You have to control your start, since the momentum carries from the start to the end. Don't run into the shadows, stroll into them. Then you won't fall." I followed his advice, and it worked. (Thank you, Hades!)

Hades waved his hand. "That's not what this is about. Why are you here?" My irritation of him resurfaced, angry that he didn't tell me what the prophecy entailed. Hades could have left me prepared, you know?

"I went to Camp Jupiter, as you wanted, and found the words of the prophecy. You know, the one that talks about Greeks and Romans meeting. I'm totally thankful that you told me about that," I said, my voice dripping with sarcasm. (I was not thankful at all.)

"Nico, you know I could not have told you the prophecy. It's against the ancient laws," Hades retorted with a neutral face. Couldn't my father show some emotion? "But I have news for you."

"You could have told me the Greeks and Romans will meet!" I exploded, a deathly-black aura exuding out of me.

Why did everyone keep me in the dark?! Even my own father!

He could have sent me a warning so I wouldn't get caught off guard.

I could be trusted!

I can be trusted.

Right?

Hades raised an eyebrow and snapped his fingers, closing my mouth. (This is how gods deal with mortals, readers. Once they don't like what we do, they shut us up with their powers to show how superior they are. And now they wonder why some demigods don't fight for them. Such hypocrisy!)

"There will be a council meeting on Olympus where other minor gods and I will be present." That was surprising! Normally, it would take a crisis to even include Hades! "You will have to be at a counsellor's meeting at Camp Half-Blood tonight."

Oh. "Father, the Romans have a senate meeting during the same time. I promised Jason and Reyna I would be there. I can't be at both places at once!"

"Well, you're going to have to be present at one of the camps. Find an excuse to not be at the other camp. Creating a duplicate of yourself would be too unreliable." (Yes, gods can create duplicates. No, don't ever ask them to create one of you. They don't have a moral compass.)

"Fine," I said, grumbling.

Hades' eyes turned soft, like a mortal father. He stepped off his throne and arrived next to me. "I know you are still angry that I didn't tell you about the prophecy, but I could not have told you anything. You must understand."

I nodded, a bit of my anger dissipating. Gods were heavily restrained by ancient laws; it was the price to pay for being immortal and powerful. I shouldn't have been too hard on my father.

"Nico, make me proud and show that the House of Hades can help," Hades said, patting me on the back.

"Or the House of Pluto," I added.

His form flickered, varying between his normal black robes with his Roman suit.

"Argh! Nico di Angelo! You did that on purpose!" Hades/Pluto screamed, sounding like two voices blended together. (Ok, I did that on purpose to have a little revenge on my father. Now he could understand how I felt.)

I chuckled and quickly ran towards a shadow of my father's throne to avoid his wrath. Hades shouldn't be too angry at me!

Before I jumped in the shadows, I remembered his advice. I slowed down and instead of running into the shadows, I stepped into them. The shadows carried me to Camp Half-Blood.

Camp Half-Blood

Luckily, I arrived with almost no momentum. But I was a little disoriented from the shadows, so I grabbed whatever was nearest to me, forehead against it, and breathed deeply. (I still haven't gotten used to the movement!)

After a few seconds, I looked up and found a couple campers walking around. Annabeth was one of them! I let go of the pole I was leaning on and ran towards her.

"Annabeth!" I shouted.

She turned around, noticing me. "Oh good. You're here, Nico. There's a counsellor's meeting after the campfire, and it's mandatory," Annabeth emphasized the last word.

"Oh. I'm so sorry; I can't come. Hades is going to be at a meeting on Olympus this evening and he told me to stay in the Underworld." Annabeth looked at me with narrowed eyes.

I added, "Hades told me to guard the underworld while he was gone. He didn't want it to be out of order. Persephone will be on Olympus." Another lie!

That was a terrible excuse, but I didn't think to come up with one. This was the best I could do in two seconds! Hopefully Annabeth would buy it.

"There's a meeting on Olympus?" asked Annabeth. "Neither Percy or Chiron told me that." She looked disappointed that nobody told her, which is understandable. Annabeth's the daughter of the wisdom goddess; it's in her blood to want to know everything.

"Anyways, can you cover for me since I won't be there?"

Annabeth seemed unsure, so I added, "Please? Please?!"

She sighed and nodded reluctantly. "Fine. But you better not be lying to me, or you are dead. Understand?" Annabeth threatened, staring me down.

"Got that. I owe you one," I promised, shadow-travelling back to Camp Jupiter.

"I know you're hiding something. And I'm going to find out what," Annabeth whispered out of earshot.

Octavian POV
Camp Jupiter

I went to Apollo's shrine after Reyna ordered me to get some information. Normally, my auguries were done in the Temple of Jupiter, but contacting gods directly (if they wanted to talk to me) was done in their temples or shrines.

I started praying to Lord Apollo and sacrificed a teddy bear to please him. After a few minutes, Apollo must have enjoyed the smell of burnt teddy bears (don't ask me why), so he contacted me.

Apollo's voice whispered, "Sleep now, my descendant, and your questions shall be answered."

I slowly drifted off to sleep, not noticing I left the door open to the shrine.

I was lying on a bed with a sheet on top, the type in doctor's offices. I looked around the golden room, everything bright and flashy. Apollo was sitting on a chair in the corner in a doctor's coat.

I got off the bed and bowed, but there was nothing where my legs should be. There was only a faint outline where the edges of my legs were, but nothing else. "Aah!" What the Pluto?! Where were my legs? Did Apollo make me a spirit to talk to me? Am I dead? Oh no!

Apollo shut my screaming and hyperventilating with a wave of his hand. "Octavian, do not scream. Jupiter will notice you even sooner and will punish me even more."

I took a couple deep breaths to calm myself. Apollo snapped his fingers to let me speak again. "Is this prophecy the next great prophecy? What do you mean by 'punish me even more'?"

"This is the next great prophecy." Apollo sighed, looking down. "You can call it the Greek prophecy. I foolishly let my control over the oracle lessen, so it spoke this prophecy. Jupiter is blaming me, so I am confined here."

I nodded. "So, where is 'here'?"

"I summoned your dream form here, which is why you are transparent. You are not dead. This is my palace on Mount Olympus."

"Can you tell me anything about the prophecy? Like who we're supposed to meet?"

"You will meet demigods from another camp. But I can't say any more because of certain rules."

"Can you tell me where we will have to go, at least?" Apollo had to give us something.

"You will go east between the two coasts where the two camps are located. Reyna, Jason, and one other will accompany you on this journey."

Good, good. This was good information, and much more than the gods ever gave out for other prophecies.

"Oh, Nico di Angelo has some hidden knowledge. Ask him for information about the prophecy," Apollo added.

"The spawn of Pluto?" I asked, flabbergasted. "What does he know?"

You might be thinking that I'm crazy for still hating him due to the fight near Temple Hill, but di Angelo can only think with his fists. He has no control over his emotions! Anyways, I will get some payback. I'll find a reason to make the senators expel him from Camp Jupiter and New Rome. That'll teach him.

"Pluto tells him many things in the Underworld, out of our reach. He has more freedom down there," Apollo said, pointing downwards. "Ask Nico di Angelo about the other demigod group. He knows about them."

Aha! Now there was a reason to expel di Angelo from Camp.

Treason!

He didn't tell us about our rivals, since the prophecy said there was a feud, during the time of war. I could already hear the arguments forming in my head.

I was going to have revenge on di Angelo!

Loud thunder boomed to the left of the room, startling me. Why was Jupiter angry? Or was his Master Bolt missing?

"That is all I can say, Octavian. Jupiter has told me to send you back to Camp Jupiter. And no, his Master Bolt is not missing." Apollo chuckled, reading my thoughts.

"I understand, milord." I bowed, this time not hyperventilating about my lack of legs.

A foreign, female voice yelled, "Apollo! I need you!" Apollo paled and waved his right hand towards me.

I disappeared, but I saw a black-haired teenage girl open the door with another girl behind her.

I shot up from my resting place -the marble floor- and saw a couple people surrounding me, talking with themselves. What were they doing here? Were they gossiping about me? Whatever.

I shouted, "What are you doing here? Leave! Relinqúite!"

Hopefully embarrassed, they all turned around and left towards New Rome.

I sprinted to the Temple of Jupiter where the three should be. Only Jason and Reyna were there, waiting on the stairs of the temple.

Reyna said, "We told the senators there is a meeting this evening. We will ramp up the production of weapons and the legion will be doing harder training sessions starting tomorrow."

Jason asked, "Do you have any news from Apollo?"

"Apollo told me that you and Reyna will accompany me to go on the quest. He didn't tell me the fourth member. He said that we will meet in the middle of the two coasts."

Reyna asked, "The two praetors leaving for a quest? That's highly unusual and super risky."

"Yeah." Jason added. "Remember Michael Varus in the 80s? The legion was in disarray for two weeks. What if both of us die? Who will become the next praetors of the legion?"

"Octavian, you're supposed to come on the quest as well, and you're the next-in-line for praetorship. If you die, it's down to the centurions or the senators. There will be a civil war between the two groups for the position, and this other war to deal with, then."

"Octavian, could you sit this one out and stay at camp?" Jason asked. "It's safer."

I voiced my thoughts. "Even though this is a very precarious plan, this is what Apollo told me. Our purpose is to serve the will of the gods, and this is what the gods willed. All three of us will have to go on the quest."

Reyna sighed and nodded. "You're right. Hopefully, all three of us going on this quest will be an advantage."

Jason said, "Well, both of you better not be dying on this quest. And I'll try my best not to." Reyna and I chuckled.

The shadows from a pillar, how do I say this, they solidified? Well, they looked like something real, not just the lack of sun.

Nico di Angelo stepped out of them, letting the shadows de-solidify.

He grabbed the handrail and bent over, with a blech! noise coming from him.

Jason and Reyna, after looking down, exclaimed, "Ew! Nico!"

I ran over to their side of the stairs and saw a puddle of green liquid on the grass.

"Di Angelo!"

He threw up on the grass! Mr. my father is so powerful can't even control his shadow-travel! Hmph!

"Sorry guys," Nico apologized. "I haven't fully controlled shadow-travel. My stomach hates the movement sometimes, especially if I have to shadow-travel a lot. This time, I shadow-travelled three times in less than half an hour."

But why would di Angelo need to travel three times? You only need two trips between Camp Jupiter and the Underworld. He was surely hiding something. I would bring it up at the senate meeting, where the senators could also vote on expelling Nico.

I told Nico the information I got from Apollo.

I asked, "What did you find with Pluto?" (I tried to not put any bite into his name. At least, not until the senate meeting.)

"There is going to be a meeting on Olympus about the prophecy. Pluto couldn't tell me anymore because of the Ancient Laws." Ah yes, the laws that restricted every immortal with their actions on the Earth. Making sure the all-powerful gods can't wipe out the whole human population without a good reason. They balance the power.

Nico's face lit up. "But, I think I know the last person to be on the quest. Since it's the Earth, I think it should-"

"Nico, let's wait until the senate meeting to choose the last quest member," Reyna interrupted. "I don't want any biases when we decide."

Nico's head dropped down, disappointed. "Fine. I'll wait. But I'll be at the senate meeting."

Jason patted Nico's back. "Good. Get ready for the senate meeting and the quest."

I nodded. Jason and Reyna went to the Praetors' quarters, and Nico headed to the shrine of Pluto.

I started walking to the barracks of the 1st cohort, hoping to find a replacement for centurion. Hopefully, no significant auguries would happen while we were gone.

Here is my second chapter of Greek meets Roman!

Summary: Reyna, Jason, Nico and Octavian find out about the prophecy. Nico decides to go to the senate meeting, where Octavian plans to act on a sinister plan, instead of the counselors' meeting. We find out Romans supposed to go on the quest.

So, we all know canon Octavian hates Nico, the Greeks, and the idea of working together. With his humiliation, he's trying to expel Nico from Camp Jupiter. Who knows what can happen if he finds out Nico is Greek? Will that affect his loyalty to the quest?

I chose to write about Nico doubting himself over why people don't trust him. He left CHB as an outcast, and was apparently shunned after the Titan War. Plus, I don't think Rick wrote a character who doubted themselves without being compared to a group (sorry Piper).

Sadly, Frank does not play a major role in this fanfic.

Have a great day and let's all Mystify!
