Welcome to Greek meets Roman! I will try to revise and edit as much as possible. Disclaimer: The characters and places you know belong to Rick Riordan, everything else is mine.
ATTENTION: This will be the LAST chapter I rewrite. I realize that this has taken more than three months. Three months! (I didn't write for a month due to vacation.) The other chapters will only be grammatical fixes and line skipping.
Thanks for all the followers, favorites, and reviews!
Hestia POV
Mount Olympus
Dionysus notified us of a council meeting in the afternoon. He said it was Level Red, which is the highest classification. All the Olympians, Hades, myself (as usual), could take part of the meeting, and some minor gods could listen in. (There's a difference.)
Oh yes, there is a classification! This is used to make sure no immortals have to lose their time for meetings they didn't have to attend. (We have all the time in the world, but we like to conserve it. What's the mortal saying? Live every day like it's last? That follows for gods as well.)
So, the first classification, Class Green, is the regular monthly meeting on Olympus. Nothing special or important. Class Yellow is important, but it only involves the Olympians. Class Orange involves something involving mortals and gods. Hades can attend these, although he sends his furies. This is when the council discusses prophecies.
Class Red has the utmost importance, and includes the major prophecies and world and life-threatening danger. Some minor gods are welcome, but most don't attend. There was a Level Red meeting when the Elder Gods Prophecy, the one that young Perseus completed last year.
I was surprised by Dionysus, of all gods, to be calling a Class Red meeting. Either something threatening or very important will happen, or that he was drunk. If that's the case, Zeus will definitely punish him with another century of staying at Camp Half-Blood and no alcohol.
I was walking to Apollo's palace to talk about the prophecy. (Better to be prepared for prophecies, especially if you're the peacemaker.)
I heard loud footsteps behind me. I turned around and saw Artemis running in my direction, looking very distressed and miserable. What happened?
I put a hand on her shoulder, slowing her down. "Slow down, Artemis. Tell me what is wrong," I said gently.
Artemis looked up and breathed deeply. "Oh Hestia, it's such a relief to see you. This is a terrible day. My lieutenant, Thalia, was holding hands with a boy. I followed them and I saw them..." She started sniffling, a sound like coughing.
I could tell that she couldn't explain it to me without crying. "Niece, just show it to me."
Artemis nodded gratefully and touched my forehead, letting me experience what happened.
Thalia, Artemis' lieutenant was holding hands with a boy on the outskirts of the forest. They were laughing and smiling, looking like they were in a relationship.
Thalia said, "Mark, we should go to the city. If my, um, mom, finds out about us, she'll be very mad."
"Oh, okay. Let's go."
The two left the forest, and Artemis followed them quietly.
Once they arrived at an alley, Mark kissed Thalia! And it wasn't a friendly kiss, it was a romantic kiss on the lips! How could the lieutenant of Artemis kiss another person? She took a sacred oath! Artemis gasped, leading Thalia to look around for her. The goddess turned invisible so Thalia couldn't see her.
Thalia frowned. She turned back and put her hands on Mark's chest. "Let's go inside. No one can see us that way," she said seductively, even winking at him!
Mark nodded, and the two went inside a building. Click! The door must have been locked by Thalia to keep Artemis out.
Artemis opened the lock magically and followed them through the hallways. They went into a room and locked the door behind them.
Artemis went to the door but didn't open it. What if she was making this all up? They probably aren't dating. (I was also reliving Artemis' thoughts.)
She used her heightened vision to see what was going on inside the room. It shocked the both of us!
They were making out intensely on the bed, their bodies practically glued together! Mark was shirtless and Thalia was unbuttoning her shirt. They were definitely going to have sex! What was happening? How could Thalia betray Artemis like that?
Artemis turned off her vision and slumped against the wall, sobbing silently. Groans and moans came after some seconds from the room. She started bawling at the fact that the lieutenant of the Hunters of Artemis, a group that had sworn off love, was having sex with a mortal boy.
Artemis' bawls turned into sobs and then into whimpers. She stood up to leave this hellhole where Thalia Grace broke her oath.
Mark said, "That was really good, babe. When should we do it again?" They apparently didn't hear Artemis crying, probably too occupied in their session.
I thought that Thalia was going to say no, but she replied, "Yeah, that was amazing. Let's do it tomorrow at 2 pm."
Artemis sprinted away from the building and teleported to Olympus.
Artemis removed her finger from my forehead and started bawling again. I turned into a teenage girl to hug her, putting comfort and warmth in Artemis.
"I don't know what to do now! This has never happened to one of my lieutenants before! How could Thalia do that?! I trusted her." Artemis' voice quieted at the end.
She stopped crying, wiping her tears off her face. "Sorry for troubling you, Hestia. I just don't know what to do. Why would Thalia do that?"
It pained me to see Artemis so downcast. She should know crying never troubles me! Everybody should know that. "Crying is not a weakness, Artemis. Crying shows that you have a range of emotions and that you are compassionate."
I grabbed Artemis' hand and pulled her up. "You know what? Let's go to Apollo and talk to him about this."
Artemis nodded, growing into a 14 year-old to match my age. We started walking slowly to Apollo's palace.
Artemis asked, "Why are you going to Apollo? Normally you stay near the hearth."
I sighed. "Dionysus called a Class Red meeting."
She chuckled and nodded her head. "Oh yes, that thing. I ignored him since I was following Thalia. Now it does seem important."
"I'm going to find out if there's a prophecy. I'd like to be prepared if a fight breaks out at the meeting."
Artemis nodded, and we continued walking to Apollo's palace. Once we arrived at his door, we heard him talking to a demigod. Artemis knocked on the door and shouted, "Apollo, I need you!"
Apollo didn't open the door, so I used my heightened vision to see what was going on in his palace. Apollo waved his hand at a dream-like figure, who I recognized as Octavian, the augur of the Roman Camp. What was he doing here?
Artemis opened the door with her powers, but not before the augur completely disappeared. Why was he here?
Apollo POV
Once I finished talking to my Octavian about the prophecy, I wanted to see how he was doing at Camp Jupiter. He was, how do I say this, openly disrespectful and mocked people. I wanted to see if anyone mistreated him due to that.
I heard a voice I recognized as Diana, "Apollo, I need you!"
Our conversation was cut short, so I waved my hand to make Octavian disappear. Sending demigods' dream form back to their body took a few seconds, so I hoped neither of them saw each other.
Unfortunately, Artemis opened the door a second before Octavian disappeared. There was a 14-year-old Hestia behind her.
I quickly transferred into my Greek form to stop any of us to glitch into our Roman forms. Artemis telepathically thanked me for that. (Glitching effectively disables us from effectively fighting or thinking. Not to mention it's extremely uncomfortable. I'm trusting you don't tell any Titans or Giants that.)
Artemis asked, "Which demigod were you talking to?"
"It was Camp Jupiter's augur. Probably about the new great prophecy. But we can talk about that later," Hestia replied, sending a stern glare at me. "Artemis has something to tell you."
Hestia looked at Artemis and tilted her head towards me, like she was a teacher and giving Artemis (the child) confidence to recite something in class. That clearly meant Artemis was distressed and at a moment of weakness, something that almost never happened.
"What's wrong? Did something happen to your hunters?" What could be causing this somber mood?
"Something's wrong. I saw Thalia kissing a mortal boy, and... you know what? I'll just show it to you like I did to Hestia."
Artemis pressed her index finger on my forehead, allowing me to relive these memories. I saw the kiss in the forest, Thalia and Mark's entrance in the building, the kissing and sex session, and Artemis' leaving.
When the vision ended, Artemis was crying, eyes puffy. Hestia was hugging her and radiating warmth and comfort. I quickly hugged Artemis, trying to calm her down.
How could Thalia, her lieutenant, do that to her? It was the ultimate sign of betrayal and mockery to everything my sister stood for! There deserved to be some punishment, especially for the mortal who corrupted Thalia.
I said, "The mortal boy must be killed for sleeping with the lieutenant of my sister's hunt. I wish Thalia could have been punished, but she must have died for breaking the oath."
Artemis took a deep breath and whispered, "Thalia didn't die."
"But how is she not dead? The Styx should have killed her for breaking the oath."
Artemis cowered away from me, probably afraid of my accusatory and loud tone. Hestia rubbed her shoulder comfortingly, glaring at me.
"I'm sorry for sounding so accusing, Arty." I whispered. "It's not your fault. I just don't like seeing you so depressed."
"I don't know why the Styx didn't kill Thalia," Hestia said. "Maybe the fates predicted she should not have died today. Probably something to do with the prophecy. Only they have this type of leverage over the Styx."
"Let's get back on the prophecy," Artemis said, gaining back her confidence. "What is the prophecy, brother? Why were you speaking to the augur? Is it the Romans?"
I recited the prophecy:
In the crossroads of East and West
Half-bloods meet and fight a contest
Air, Water, Earth unlock the cage
Wars break out with enemies' rage
Then sour rivals become best friends
Feud between Rome and Greece now ends
At the last line, all three of us glitched between our Roman and Greek forms. Switching between my Greek side and my Roman side was exhausting! Both sides were fighting for dominance in this shared soul. It took all my effort not to explode with the power of an atomic bomb to try to calm things down! Olympus wouldn't be destroyed, but some dead nymphs would haunt me the rest of my eternal life.
These times, I wish the gods weren't just different entities, they had different souls and bodies. It was so painful! I wouldn't wish that on any of our enemies (except Kronos and the Giants).
Fortunately, we settled on our Greek sides in a couple seconds. (It felt like an eternity.) I grabbed my head and rattled it, trying to recover my mind.
Since the glitching must have made me look very disheveled, I snapped my fingers to make my godly self look like my awesome godly self. Artemis and Hestia did the same.
My sister glared at me, asking, "What were you thinking when you allowed the oracle to say the prophecy? That was a reckless and stupid move. What were you doing, sleeping around like usual!?"
I looked down, embarrassed. "I know. It's my fault. I was hooking up with a girl, and I let my guard down. The enemy probably freed the oracle from her bonds so she could say the prophecy without my permission."
Hestia snorted. "Apollo, we both know that's not how prophecies and the oracle works. You can't reliably force the oracle to not say prophecies."
"What do you mean?" Artemis asked.
"The oracle's mission is to spread the truth to as many people as possible. That may sound good, but some things need to be hidden in order for fate to progress normally. The titans realized that this could divide whole nations and plunge humankind into civil war. You can't change the oracle's nature, so the Titaness Phoebe restricted the oracle's power to immortals and their offspring only. That way, fate and the oracle could coexist peacefully."
Everything Hestia said checked out with my knowledge. The oracle took care of immortals, fate of the mortals, and both took care of the semi-divine. It was how the world worked.
"Kronos, as power-hungry as he was, forced her to restrict the fulfillment of prophecies. He took that as a chance to keep the mortal and the semi-divine world blind of possible dangers. But prophecies have to be fulfilled, or else unintended consequences to the ruling order rise up. That may have led to our success over Kronos.
We were close to our end with the Giants and Typhon, but we allowed the prophecies to be fulfilled, even if they could have given us a trip to Tartarus. Same think with Kronos a year ago. We tried to delay the prophecy, but we allowed Percy Jackson to live until his sixteenth birthday, fulfilling it."
"But how does this tie in with this prophecy?" Artemis asked.
"And how do you know all of this?" I asked. "I'm the god of truth and prophecies, not you."
Hestia looked at me sternly. "You were the one thinking that we could stop the oracle from saying the prophecy. But by letting the demigod camps know, we won't be doomed to the same fate doomed to us with the Giants and Typhon."
Artemis' eyes lit up and exclaimed, "That means this war with the enemy isn't that serious! We won't be close to banishment to Tartarus. Great!" She was practically jumping with joy.
"Not true," Hestia interjected. "We got rid of the possibility of the oracle and fate working against us. We will still have to fight this enemy, even though fate and the oracle are neutral."
She looked at the ground thoughtfully. "But I am worried over our lack of control over the oracle. Normally, gods are alerted to prophecies before the world knows about them. The enemy could have new cards up their sleeve; something that could change how prophecies work."
Just so you know, I think it was greeeeat that Hestia just admitted that we have only one enemy, but said that the enemy could change how prophecies and, by-extension, the oracle works. Way to calm the mood!
"You still didn't answer my question!" I exclaimed. "How do you know all this stuff?"
"Oh, I used to visit Phoebe time to time after the Titan War. Her reign of prophecies was ending, so she told me some information about them. It was good to relieve herself from all the stress under Kronos' control of the oracle. But now we don't have any reason to stay in touch."
"You should, Hestia," I replied. "When I meet with her, she feels a bit depressed with all these new religious fanatics who claim to know all prophecies that define the future. It's starting to show in her attitude."
"You visit Phoebe?" Artemis asked.
I looked at her weirdly. "Uh, she is our grandmother. Of course I visit her. But it's only once every three or four years. Do you visit her?"
"I mean, sometimes, I do, but-"
"Let's get back on track, Artemis and Apollo." Hestia interrupted. "We spent too much time talking about Phoebe and how prophecies work while we need to focus on this prophecy."
I whispered to Artemis, "If you do visit, get her drunk. She doesn't hold back in that state and could tell you a few secrets of your future."
"Apollo!" Hestia reprimanded.
I raised my hands up. "Sorry! Sorry. We'll have plenty of time to be serious at the council meeting, so let's just let loose now for the next few hours."
I looked at Artemis for affirmation, and to my surprise, she nodded. "Yes. This whole ordeal with Thalia's escapade and how prophecies work. Let's just relax."
"Yes. I can't control the oracle, for crying out loud!"
"Zeus will think you can control it, though," Hestia remarked. "There could be loads of punishments coming your way if things go badly."
"Let's stop thinking about this bad stuff!" Artemis pouted. "We decided to enjoy the few remaining hours we have till the council meeting."
Hestia rolled her eyes and sighed exaggeratedly. "Fine."
"You know what we should do? We should hook up with girls at some bars. Maybe not you, Hestia, but I know something sexual has to be happening in the hunter's camp of yours. Right, Artemis?"
This was a stupid idea that was going to get me beaten up by my sister, but it felt good to joke around after that seriousness.
"Apollo!" Hestia and Artemis shouted. The difference was that Artemis was walking up to me with a murderous glint in her eyes, cracking her knuckles.
Okay, maybe not just a simple punch or two. I would be beaten up till unconsciousness for several hours. Hopefully Hestia saves me.
Here is the third chapter of Greek meets Roman!
Summary: Artemis finds out that Thalia had sex multiple times with a mortal. Hestia comforts her while going to Apollo's palace. There, the three find out the prophecy. Hestia excuses Apollo of any blame he has over the prophecy and has good news for Olympus.
Too anyone who thinks that Thalia having sex is unnatural, reread the end of the Titan's Curse. Thalia joined so she could not reach the age of sixteen! Not because she wanted to stay an eternal virgin. Also, I wrote that scene for a reason revealed in chapter 5. I can't change it that easily!
Before I rewrote this, Apollo was the one who did the monologue about prophecies. I changed it so Hestia talked about the prophecies, it included Phoebe, and so it wouldn't be so foreshadow too much.
Side note: Where are the female Titanesses in Rick Riordan's books?! Seriously! We need some! I will be including a Titaness, but it won't be Phoebe.
Another side note: Rick, what happened at the end of TTC? Thalia, who has no seniority whatsoever, got to be the lieutenant of the hunt probably because she saved Artemis. Phoebe should have been the candidate, not Thalia!
ATTENTION: This will be the LAST chapter I rewrite. I realize that this has taken more than three months. Three months! (I didn't write for a month due to vacation.) The other chapters will only be grammatical fixes and line skipping.
Anyways, have a great day and let's all Mystify!
