Prompt: Write about a parent's wisdom.

Rating: K

"It doesn't matter what others think," Mother said, stroking Heather's fur. "Even if they try to hurt you, it's never, ever alright to lie or change yourself to be like them. That's just stooping to their level. All that matters is that you live the truth. Nothing else is important if you do the right thing."

Now, as Heather stood tall against the flames in the center of the Seventh District, staring hard into the eyes of those around her, she lived her mother's words.

"I'm not certain what you want to hear," she began, "but, begging your pardon, neither do I care."

Truer words had never been spoken. Living the truth was all that mattered.

Reply to Ann: Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed. Angsty stuff is one of my favorite things to write. :) Thanks for pointing that out! I'll go fix it right now.
