Welcome to Greek meets Roman! I will try to revise and edit as much as possible. Disclaimer: The characters and places you know belong to Rick Riordan, everything else is mine.
ATTENTION: As you know, this is the first chapter on my rewriting project that I'm just editing small stuff. My quality of writing was BAD in 2020.
Thanks for all the followers, favorites, and reviews!
Annabeth POV
Camp Half-Blood
Percy told me the prophecy and the meeting about Chiron a couple hours ago. Most of the counselors didn't know about it yet, so I assumed Chiron would announce it at dinner or at the bonfire.
In the evening, I went to eat at the dining pavilion with the rest of my cabin. I did my usual routine, giving Percy a hug and a kiss. Some people from the Aphrodite cabin squealed. Seriously, I've been kissing Percy for months! What's special about that?
I sacrificed some food to Athena and started eating.
In the middle of dinner, Chiron stomped his hoof to quiet the campers. "After the bonfire, all cabin counselors will report to the big house for a meeting about a prophecy," he announced.
At this line, people started whispering, which turned into yelling and shouting pretty quickly.
Chiron stomped his hoof pretty hard, again, to quiet the campers, again. "Details will be told at the meeting. If you want to know any information, ask your cabin counselor after they come back." He gave the pavilion a stern look and sat back down to resume eating.
We all finished eating and went to the bonfire. The Apollo kids got some people to sing something, but my thoughts were more about what Nico was hiding. The prophecy had to be a big one so Hades was invited to Olympus.
After the bonfire, I dropped some stuff at my cabin and went to the big house. When I arrived, only 6 other counselors, Rachel, and Chiron were there. In the next couple of minutes, all the counselors for all the cabins arrived.
We were pretty much doing normal stuff or gossiping at the Rec Room until Chiron shouted, "That's enough talking, campers. Now, we are here to talk about the next great prophecy."
Everybody started shouting again until Chiron stomped his hoof. "Let's be quiet," he boomed, "And let our resident oracle Rachel say the prophecy."
Will asked, "Where's Mr. D, by the way? I don't see him here."
The other counselors' looked around for the missing god, but I knew the real reason he wasn't here.
I replied, "There's a council meeting on Olympus about the prophecy. Mr. D should be there."
The room exploded into conversations about a prophecy that needed a council meeting. I looked at Chiron, who was frowning and sighing. He must have thought I wouldn't know that, but I can't help it! It was Nico's fault! Nico di Angelo was causing everybody's problems these days.
Chiron stomped his hoof for what seemed to be the millionth time this evening, causing everybody to shut up.
"I regrettably say that this is the next great prophecy." Chiron sighed. "There is a council meeting going on in Olympus, which is why Mr. D. is not here. But where did you hear that, Annabeth?"
Everyone looked back at me. "Nico told me that in the afternoon."
Chiron raised his eyebrows and asked, "Where is Nico, by the way?" Everyone looked at the corners of the room with shadows to see if he would jump out.
"Annabeth, did Nico tell you where he would be right now?" Percy asked.
Everybody stared at me again for an answer. Again. Honestly, couldn't they just use their logic to find out that no, I do not know where Nico is. Don't they have some common sense? And, the obvious location where Nico could be besides the meeting would be the underworld. Duh!
"He told me he would be keeping the underworld in order since both Hades and Persephone wouldn't be there." Nico was surely hiding something the afternoon, so I quickly added, "He was hiding something but he shadow-traveled away after I could ask him."
"Why would Hades put Nico in charge?" Chiron muttered. I couldn't hear his other words since they were too quiet for me to hear.
Everyone started doing their own thing again (arguing, gossiping, pranking) until Rachel interrupted us. "Ok guys, I'm saying the prophecy right now. Pay attention."
Rachel recited the prophecy, which caused everyone to shout at each other. Well, not me and a few others. I was too busy contemplating what it meant.
Why was Rome in the prophecy? Which demigods were Air, Water, and Earth? What contest was it talking about?
"Silence!" Chiron shouted, shocking us. Chiron rarely shouted.
"This is the great prophecy, remember. Let us continue in order and peace."
Butch asked, "Why would we have to go to the middle of the country and fight a contest?"
"Actually, there is something you need to know." Rachel said, doing some weird head gesture to Chiron. "But first, all of you have to swear on the Styx to not tell anyone about this."
I looked at Percy for his thoughts and he shrugged. What could be the harm? We all swore on the Styx.
Chiron cleared his throat. "There is another camp on the West Coast for Roman demigods. I think some of our demigods will meet them in the middle of the US. They must have received the same prophecy."
Drew laughed. "You're joking, Chiron."
None of us said anything. "Right?"
"Ok, you're not joking," Drew said, sighing.
I would have agreed with her if someone else said this, but this was Chiron. He never lied. Plus, the prophecy includes Rome. It made total sense!
Rachel broke the moment of silence. "Let's continue. Any comments for the other lines?"
I said, "Butch, you were right with your questions. And air, water, and earth most likely signifies a child of Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades working together to break a cage."
Lou Ellen suggested, "Don't forget, it could include the roman demigods as well."
Jake asked, "What cage are we supposed to break, though?"
Chiron replied, "I don't know. It'll be found during the quest."
"Wars are going to break out? That'll be fun." Clarisse said, rubbing her hands together. Children of Ares would always think like that, but this was multiple wars. It was no joke!
I frowned. "But, it'll break out with the enemies' rage. We'll have multiple enemies to fight against!"
The councilors murmured in worry and agreement.
"Guys, we have to win this war to end the feud. Especially against the Romans. We always lose against them!" Holly, the head councilor of Nike, groaned.
Clarisse shouted in agreement. Holly and her should definitely become best friends.
Chiron frowned. "Holly, our camps are supposed to become best friends. Let us not have any major conflicts. Let's move on to who should go on the quest."
Clovis suddenly shot up from his sleeping position, crying out, "Don't disturb my sleep!" I groaned.
Clovis seemed to notice he was not in his cabin but in a councilor's meeting. "Forgot you guys were here. Dad told me to tell you there will be four people on the prophecy, including Percy and Annabeth. If that's all, I'm going to sleep."
I looked at Percy and shrugged, causing him to chuckle. Same old situation and people, even if we almost a year away from being 18.
"I volunteer," said Jake. "I can help with transportation and with breaking the cage."
Chiron looked at him doubtfully. "Jake, are you sure? This is the great prophecy. There is a higher risk of death."
Jake shrugged. "If I die, I die. I'm going."
"Anyone else?" Chiron asked.
"I'll go." Lou Ellen whispered. I almost couldn't her her voice from across the room. You will need a little magic on your trip, and I can protect you guys from any curses from the cage."
"Are you sure?" Chiron asked.
Lou Ellen nodded.
Chiron continued, "Go to your cabins and get some sleep. Quest members, you will be leaving tomorrow morning. May the gods bless your quest."
We nodded, and everyone left except Chiron and Rachel. I went to my bunk and my cabin and fell into a dreamless sleep. Thank Hypnos for that.
Jason POV
Camp Jupiter
I was still a bit miffed at both the praetors and the augur going on a life-threatening quest, leaving Camp Jupiter with no leader if all three of us die. But, we can't defy the gods, so here we were.
All the centurions, some senators, Nico, Reyna, and I met at the Senate House in New Rome after dinner to talk about the quest.
"Hello. Let's get straight to the point. We are here to discuss the next Great prophecy and its quest." Reyna announced.
Most of the senators and attending Lares started murmuring at each other.
"Octavian, the augur, please say the prophecy," I said.
Octavian recited the prophecy to everyone.
Everybody in attendance started arguing against each other and coming up with crazy conspiracy theories, like the Greeks were going to make us fight a contest. Seriously?
Reyna shouted above everybody else, "This is the roman senate, not some barbarian table group. Let's not shout or interrupt anyone."
A Lar spoke up, "Praetors, it must be the Graecus! Those Greeks will be coming back to conquer and kill us all! I say to attack first, like tradition!"
The other ghosts shouted in agreement and I could see some senators getting swayed.
I intervened before it could get any worse "All of you Lares are observers! You may not propose ideas, only the rest may."
"Octavian here says he was visited by Lord Apollo in his sleep regarding this prophecy," Reyna said. "Would you tell us what happened?"
Octavian nodded at her and said, "I visited Apollo in his palace in my sleep. He told me many things about the quest.
We will meet demigods from another camp. He said it was on the East Coast and that we would meet them in the middle of the US. He said Reyna, Jason, me, and one other will go on this quest.
"I wanted to ask him more, but he said ancient laws restricted him from saying anything. But Lord Apollo said Nico di Angelo knew more about this prophecy." Octavian pointed and glared at Nico.
Nico looked like a deer caught in the headlights. "Well, you know what? I'm just going to tell you. I'm a child of Hades."
Reyna asked, "We know that, and the god is called Pluto, not Hades. But that's not relevant."
"But I'm the child of Hades, not Pluto. Hazel is the daughter of Pluto. They are two different gods."
Nico continued to tell us about how the gods had two forms when changed from Greece to Rome, how they moved from country to country, the civil war debacle, and a lot more.
Apparently, they didn't shed and throw away their Greek form when they moved to Rome, but they separated them. Ugh. I was going to need some time to process all that info.
"The Olympians separated Greeks and Romans to the extremes of the US," said Nico. "There is a camp for Greek demigods on the East Coast but I won't tell you where because that would be dangerous. Even though I was born Greek, they all stay away since I'm a child of Hades. But here, you don't like weakness, and I like that."
"Why couldn't you tell us about the Graecus?" Octavian accused. "Withholding information about Rome's enemies is treason, punishable by expulsion."
"First of all, Rome and Greece should never have been enemies, and the whole point of the prophecy is to get rid of the feud between them and become allies," Nico shot back. "Plus, I took an oath to never tell anyone of these two camps, and I could only tell you after I got permission from my father."
"Fine. Are your allegiances with Greece or Rome, di Angelo?"
"Did you not hear what I just said? At the end of this, allegiances to one side or the other won't matter. We should be working together."
"That doesn't answer my question."
"Ugh." Nico shook his head. "I feel closer to Camp Jupiter because exclude campers due to their parentage and since you guys don't pity or stay away from me. But at the end, I will be close to both Greece and Rome."
I could feel a fight about to break out, so I intervened. "Have you told the Greeks anything about us? That oath better have gone both ways."
"No, no. But their leader knows you exist and probably told the campers about you existence. But that's all he knows, and the goddess Lupa. Nothing else."
"When did you find out about us, traitor?" Octavian asked. "And why you?"
"Hades wanted me to get more mortal friends last year, and because he wanted me to check on Hazel at camp. But never call me a traitor. I have been nothing but loyal to Rome and the gods."
Octavian smirked. "I'll believe that when I see it. But I'll let it go."
He turned around to face the senators and centurions. "I have a motion to raise. I propose we ban Nico di Angelo from participating in this meeting due to the recent circumstances. Only true and loyal Romans should be here."
"Oh listen here, you skinny piece of shit, I am loyal to Rome." Nico came forward as if to attack Octavian, but he restrained himself. Good. Violence was what Octavian wanted. "How about you move your conspiring ass out of the Senate House?! You will doom the quest before it-"
"You may be loyal to Rome, but are you a loyal Roman?" Octavian smirked. (It infuriated me how he could keep his cool all this time.)
"You know what?" Nico put his hands up and stepped back into the shadows. "That's right. I'm not Roman, and I will never be, according to your shitty perceptions. I won't participate in this meeting."
Nico raised an eyebrow at the following silence. "Continue. Don't let this 'non-Roman' interrupt your meeting. Also, fuck you, Octavian." He flipped him off.
"Ok, let's keep the vulgarity out of the Senate." Reyna said. "Let's talk about the quest members."
I cleared my throat. "Octavian, is is true that me, Reyna, you, and one other are supposed to go on the quest?"
"I swear on my life and my allegiance to Rome that it is true." The passive-aggressiveness to Nico never ended.
"Do we all agree that Octavian, Jason and I should go on the quest?" Reyna asked the senators.
All but two senators approved the question. A small part of me hoped that not all the three heads of Camp Jupiter would have to go on a quest, but oh well.
Reyna asked, "Does anyone have suggestions for the fourth member for the quest?"
Some senators whispered some ideas about the fourth member, but I knew that the options were not good for a quest this magnitude.
"My sister, Hazel Levesque, could go on the quest," Nico proposed. "She represents Earth in-"
"Who said you could talk, traitor?" Octavian sneered. "You are not participating in this meeting?"
"Well, since there is no motion to ban my participation, I am free to talk as I wish. Unless both praetors want to do something about it."
"Then let's ban Nico di Angelo's partici-"
"Let me explain my choice, Octavian. Then I will shut up," Nico shot back calmly.
"Hazel should go since she represents Earth in the prophecy. None of the Greeks have an equivalent for the Earth."
"All in motion for Hazel Levesque to go on the quest? If you are worried about her relation to Nico, we will keep track on her. And she has Roman blood." Reyna asked.
Four of the senators raised their hands, but two said they were abstaining.
"To the senators who are not raising their hands, who do you think should go?" I asked.
"We should not be allowing a girl as young as 14 to go on a quest, especially someone who only became a legionnaire weeks ago," a senator spoke up.
"But we have a duty to send a half-blood with power over Earth to complete the quest. Who else has the power over the Earth?" Another senator asked.
"I promise you guys, the Greeks have no demigod for the Earth." Nico interrupted. "They have to come from Rome."
Two senators whispered among themselves, and they nodded at the end of their conversation. Both raised their hands to confirm Hazel to go on the quest. Finally!
"As approved by the Senate, Jason Grace, Reyna Ramirez-Arellano, Octavian Simmons, and Hazel Levesque shall go on this quest," I robotically said.
"Business has finished, the meeting has ended, and no further debates shall take place during the session. All dismissed expect the quest members." Reyna finished.
I told Nico, "Tell Hazel about her role in the quest."
"We will be leaving for the quest tomorrow morning after Breakfast. Get a good night's sleep." I told everyone.
We all left the Senate House in our different ways, for me the Praetors' quarters.
Apollo POV
Olympus
Surprisingly, I was the one who realized it was time for the council meeting Dionysus called on Olympus when talking with Hestia and Artemis. Not the other two. Weird.
I said, "It's time for the council meeting. We should leave now so Zeus won't be too angry towards me."
"Apollo, remember, the prophecy is not your fault." Artemis reminded me. "If Zeus gets mad at you, we will tell him the truth about oracles."
"But you know how Zeus is."
"Let's go to the council room first and deal with Zeus later," Hestia told us.
I nodded. I flashed to the council room and sat on my seat like Hestia and Artemis did. Everybody else was already here, including Hades. Minor gods were also in attendance. Niiice.
"Now, since Apollo and Artemis are here, we can start the meeting," Zeus boomed. "Dionysus, why have you called this a Class Red? It should be important."
The wine god replied, "The oracle at Camp Half-Blood has recited the next great prophecy. It involves the Greeks and the other demigods."
To stop headaches every day: Greece and Rome never in one say. That's the Olympian rule. (Pretty good rhyme, right? Courtesy of me.)
"What is the prophecy. And who is the enemy?" Zeus looked at me.
I recited the prophecy in front of everyone, quickly skipping over the sixth line.
Shouting and yelling quickly took over the throne room. The ears of any mortal would have exploded a second after!
Hera, fed up, yelled, "Silence everybody! Families do not scream at each other from a bit of news, especially the Olympian family!"
Zeus looked embarrassed. "Thank you, dear. No shouting in my throne room. Any thoughts about the prophecy, Athena?"
"Yes. The first two lines indicate that half-bloods will meet in between the two demigod camps and fight a contest, most likely orchestrated by this enemy. A demigod of Zeus, Poseidon, or Hades will unlock some type of cage, also created by the enemy."
"The earth could also be represented by a child of Demeter," a minor god pointed out. Not likely, though.
Demeter shook her head and smiled. "Ah, prophecies almost never include a child of mine. They don't die as early as some demigods do. Plus, Hades fits better with 'Earth' than me."
"Anyways, when the demigods unlock the cage, they might release something important for the enemy where they can wage war against us." Athena continued somberly.
"So, should we prevent the demigods from opening any cages with mystical power?" Artemis asked.
"Let's not jump to conclusions. We don't know what the cage does. Plus, how will we defeat the enemy without following the prophecy?"
"After the prophecy, the Greeks and the other demigods will resolve their feud, one way or another," Athena finished.
"We should move on to the elephant in the room." I smirked. "Nico di Angelo."
Ha. Take that, pale Hades.
"What does the son of Hades have to do with this?" Zeus sighed.
Hades held his hands awkwardly. "I may have told Nico about the camp in California. He is now my ambassador there."
Oh, what did you do, you sweet god. All of us glared at him and Hades was looking as if to shadow-travel away.
"And pray tell," Artemis asked, glowing a harsh shade of silver. "Why did you tell your son about the roman camp?"
Hades put his hands up. "He was an outcast at the Greek camp, so I thought the other one would make get him more friends. Now, I know what goes on at the other camp. But I made him swear on the Styx to never tell any being that knowledge!"
Zeus rubbed his beard. "Hades, don't leave. We could use your son as an advantage. He could coordinate both quests directly instead of us gods so ancient laws would not be broken."
Nice plan, father. But for what? Zeus never liked his brothers' children. Well, that's his and Hades' business. Not mine.
"All in favor of Nico di Angelo keeping track of the demigods, raise your hand!" All of us except Hades affirmed the resolution.
"Nico di Angelo will keep track of the demigods on their quest, decreed by the Olympian council!" Zeus thundered. "Let's start preparations for the war, everyone! Including figuring out where the cage is!"
"Minor gods," The minor gods looked up from their silence. "Um, thank you for helping us in this war." Zeus said slowly. Too hard for the King, I see.
"Remember what our jobs our towards the war. Council is dismissed!"
Zeus and others flashed away. I smiled at Hestia and Artemis and flashed into the Sun Chariot to set the Sun.
Here is my fourth chapter of Greek meets Roman!
Summary: The Greeks, Romans, and Gods all hold meetings concerning the prophecy. Percy, Annabeth, Jake Mason, Lou Ellen, Jason, Reyna, Octavian, and Hazel will go on the quest. Nico will coordinate between the two, and Octavian's mission to expel him failed. Everyone knows about each other now!
Will the questers be able to start smoothly? Will anyone else be added to the quest? Where is the cage the demigods will unlock? How will Nico and Octavian deal out their frustrations now that they're on the same quest?
So, now we have the exposition laid out completely. Now the action finally starts to heat up. Hello, Rising Action!
Have a great day and let's all Mystify!
