Top Harry Drabbles: Harry/Alucard(Castlevania)
Chapter summary: It's easier to be a wolf than Alucard or Adrian Tepes, the son of Dracula. And sometimes it's easier to be a panther than Harry Potter. (Castlevania, post Season 2 but pre season 3)
It was the howling that drew Harry's attention, sad and mournful and beautiful at the same time. He padded forward on four legs, his long body sleek and fur shiny, rippling in the small breeze of the evening. The stars shone down on the small forest and the moon highlighted the strange, ghostly castle about a mile ahead. He was quiet on his paws, claws flexing and retracting just as quickly as he loped ahead, veering around debris and bodies and armor that was bloody.
The clearing up ahead was empty except for the giant white wolf in the middle of it, its fur shimmering in the moonlight. Harry's breath caught at the sight and he sat down on his haunches and watched, taking quiet breaths as the wolf continued to howl. He wasn't in eye sight of the wolf but he waited, listened to the wolf's song. For a few minutes, the wolf howled and Harry let out a deep huff of breath, his heart aching for whatever the wolf had gone through. He hadn't heard anything like the howl before. Moony had never howled when Remus had shifted… or he had and it was never like this.
This new strange world he had found himself in after twenty peaceful years was a chaotic one, full of vampires, dark creatures and hateful humans. He had mostly kept to himself throughout the last month and only now found himself in a corner of the world called Wallachia.
The howling stopped and Harry turned his attention back to the clearing, watched as the wolf turned around. Glowing golden eyes met his own and Harry rumbled deep in his throat, quiet and peaceful..
The wolf stared at him, body tight for a moment, and then let out a deep sigh, loud in the clearing. Harry took a step towards the creature and another when the wolf didn't grow alarmed. Two more steps brought him up close to the wolf and he looked into those intelligent eyes, mournful and yet a little curious, and closed the distance. He touched his nose to the wolf's, not needing to reach up at all to touch the other animal. Or… the other shape shifter. Harry was pretty sure that the wolf wasn't just a wolf.
The wolf huffed out a breath and turned its gold eyes to the ground, before glancing back to the castle. Harry turned to look at the castle too, seeing the wide entry way to the castle. The big, grand doors were on the ground before it, blown outward or inward and not replaced.
Ancient magic stirred around the castle and he turned back to the white wolf before grinning a cat grin and swiping at the wolf's nose with his tongue. The wolf's eyes widened so much he thought they would fall out of the creature's skull and Harry rumbled again with panther vocal chords and jumped out of the way as the wolf batted at him with a paw. Harry chuffed out an amused sound and ran towards the castle, wanting to look around the ancient stone home.
The wolf growled and Harry swore he heard a low hiss underneath the growl but he paid it no mind, hearing the wolf give chase. Harry ran on panther paws into the castle, taking in the grand entry hall before him, the beautiful stone work and the crumbling debris as he ran. There was armor fallen on the ground and weaponry, bloody swords and capes surrounding him and then stone pillars that had gotten pushed. Clearly a battle had taken place here and not too long ago.
The wolf howled again, one part irritated and three parts… mournful as they ran side by side. They ran up the staircase and through a doorway and up another staircase. Magic was in the air around them and radiated from the wolf, something that called to the part of him that had truly died when Voldemort had cast that final killing curse at him. He took yet another staircase, thankful that they weren't moving stairs, and finally came to what he thought was the top floor of the castle.
He slowed to a trot and down to a walk as he took in the grand room in front of him, the one with one lone pillar in it. The pillar held a shattered… gem on it but Harry didn't pay it any mind, instead walking over to the floor to ceiling windows that overlooked the valley outside. The wolf joined him and sat down on its haunches, sighing loudly again and slumping down.
Harry stepped over to the wolf's side, towering a little bit over the wolf and licked the wolf's coat, his long, sandpapery tongue making the wolf's coat shiny. The wolf let out a noise, strangled and yet needy, and Harry jumped back as the wolf shifted underneath him.
A man lay underneath him a second later and Harry sucked in a breath at the sight, changing back to human form too. Light, golden blond hair pooled around the man's head like a halo and well tailored clothes covered the man's body, from black hose at his legs to a white shirt.
"Beautiful."
The man's golden eyes widened and Harry lowered his arms to bracket the man, one on either side of the man's chest.
"Who are you?" The man questioned, his eyes wide. His voice was lilting and entrancing and curious.
"Harry. Who are you?"
The man hesitated as he looked up at him and his eyes flashed before he answered. "Alucard. You may call me Alucard. I have never met a man who could change shape the way I could."
Alucard peered up at him, his lips curling up into an intrigued grin and then Harry saw the fangs.
"You're… a vampire."
"Almost I suppose. What are you?"
"Almost?" Harry repeated, tilting his head in confusion. "Does that mean you haven't met the requirements to call yourself a vampire?"
Alucard stared at him and then laughed, immediately freezing at the sound like he was surprised that he could still...
Harry swallowed at the look on Alucard's face, grief and mourning and…
He reached out and cupped the man's chin, smoothing a thumb over cool skin. Alucard stiffened and sucked in a tight breath at the touch.
"I know that look."
"I do not have a 'look'."
He withdrew his hand and stepped aside, sitting down. He looked over to watch as Alucard sat up, his movements precise and calculated but weary too.
"Who did you kill?"
Alucard didn't reply for several minutes and Harry stayed quiet, waiting the man out. The moon brightened and the several holes in the glass brought in the chill breeze. He cast a warming charm on himself before he began to shiver and a glow appeared out of the corner of his eyes, small and yet brilliant.
"My father."
"Oh. I'm sorry."
"You are not from around here, are you? You would have heard of Dracula and his great army of hell beasts and his promise to kill every human in the world."
"Hmm? Dracula… as in The Dracula? As in vampire Dracula?"
Alucard sighed and nodded, drawing his knees up to his chest. His long legs stretched and there was no creaking, no struggle to move his body.
"Army of hell beasts? His promise? I didn't think Dracula even existed… let alone whatever you're talking about."
"I honored my mother by killing my father. Oh."
Harry swallowed as his heart skipped a beat at the grief in those words and turned to look as tears pooled in Alucard's eyes.
"Your father was Dracula."
Alucard let out a noise, strangled and broken, and Harry flinched and reached a tentative arm out. Tears fell down Alucard's cheeks but he didn't resist as Harry tugged him in for a hug, keeping his arm loose. Alucard let out a watery sounding sigh and cried, resting his head against Harry's shoulder.
Harry kept quiet as the man cried, tracing over a few strands of soft, golden blond hair, and stared out into the stars. Sobs trailed off into hitching breaths after a while and finally it was quiet.
"Thank you."
"You're welcome."
AN: Been binging some series while stuck at home on lockdown because of coronavirus. Castlevania is bloody and gory but Alucard, Trevor and Sypha are a whole lot of fun.
Hope you guys are staying safe wherever you're at!
