I couldn't help but feel excited.
The demigods in the quest played right into my hands!
Normally, I would be going against the camps separately, due to Rome and Greece. However, after listening to a nymph's suggestion, it was a good idea to free the oracle of Delphi from her bonds temporarily. The oracle sprouted the prophecy without the gods' knowledge, and the damage would now unfold.
I'll explain how prophecies work if it gets confusing. Normally, the gods know about great prophecies before the world does, so they try to prevent it while preparing for the conflict. But now, they were unprepared for all of this. Don't worry, I did not disrupt fate by releasing the oracle's bonds.
I also infected Thalia's mind with these inappropriate romantic thoughts. Artemis and her hunters would be disorganized so fighting them would be much easier. They didn't even think an outside force was involved!
Now, I was disappointed with how Zeus responded to the prophecy. I expected that he would be against the idea of gods fighting with demigods and by making the Greeks and Romans interact. I suppose That son of Poseidon and the last war taught him some humility.
Nico di Angelo's role in the quest was very delicate as the mediator between camps, so I would have to play my cards right to subdue him. Capturing him would have been a good decision, but the future arousing from that would be too unpredictable. It was not a risk I was willing to take.
I may not have an army, but any sensible demigod, mortal, or god would want to fight on my side. If they know me, they will recognize my power and join my side. Everybody loves power and fame. Sadly, there are rarely any of them nowadays.
But first, I need to figure out the Fates' loyalty in this war. And, maybe switch them over to my side. Their presence could change everything, and I cannot beat all three of them and the Olympians combined. Even I have some limits.
I moved my arms and chanted, "I now summon the three Moirae; Lachesis, Atropos, and Clotho here!"
The fates reappeared in front of me in pink mist. They instantly got up from their chairs and looked around for whoever summoned them. Me.
Atropos shouted, "Who dares to summon the Fates? Great punishment follows for doing this!"
Lachesis added, "Come out, wherever you are! The more time you waste, the more severe the punishment!"
Their threats were so amusing! Well, time to stop toying with them.
I stepped out of the shadows where I was visible, my pink robe in stark contrast with the wall behind me.
Clotho gasped and the other two Fates stepped back.
I smirked. Times haven't changed. "Hello, Atropos. You know your punishments cannot extend to me, right?"
Atropos composed herself and cleared her throat. "Well, hello. We haven't seen you in a long time. A millennium, to be exact. Why are we here?"
I waved my arms to show the room, ignoring the question. "Welcome to my humble abode!"
Atropos scoffed and Clotho snorted.
I smiled and turned back to them. "Don't you like this room? This place always impresses me!"
Lachesis said, "This is beautiful, but I doubt you summoned us here to talk about the architecture here."
Clotho crossed her arms. "Why did you summon us now, after all this time? Another millennium won't hurt."
I summoned four chairs to sit on. I sat down on a chair, and the others sat down.
"Clotho, if I visited you three, the Olympians would have noticed and tried to hunt me down. They wouldn't have succeeded, but it was too much risk. And, there may be a special reason I called you all here."
Clotho sighed. "I know, I know. But why now?"
"All in due time, but let's get down to business." I summoned some lemonade for all of us.
Atropos guffawed. "I know for a fact that you have never been able to talk about business."
I chuckled and took a sip from my lemonade. "Not wrong. I assume you have heard the great prophecy?"
Lachesis clenched her fists and seethed. "Yes. But this time, we only heard the prophecy after it was spoken. Whoever tampered with fate will perish."
Clotho chuckled nervously. "Lachesis is only like that because she hates people doing our jobs without permission. But, do you know rushed fate?"
I grimaced. "Yes, it was me who did that.
I freed the oracle so they could declare the prophecy."
All their mouths opened in shock at my declaration. Atropos even stood up and drew two daggers. Why wouldn't she? I just admitted that I bypassed their powers and duties for my own gain. Even I'd be angry at myself.
I put my hands up as a sign of peace. I did not want to fight anybody until I could be on Earth. "Peace, I do not wish to fight you."
"That will be impossible," Atropos screamed. "You freed the oracle and destroyed millennia of balance! How could you?"
Lachesis gasped. "You're the enemy of the prophecy, right?"
Bringing the Fates here was a great mistake on my part. I thought they would not be hostile to me, but I was wrong. To a primordial!
Well, I brought them here, so I better continue my plan to sway them to my side.
Atropos took my silence as a yes and surged forward, daggers pointing to my heart. I summoned a stiletto to defend myself against her. Atropos was relentless in her onslaught, pushing me back towards the wall. A trained fighter. The room was bursting with the sound of metal blades. I didn't want to blast her, since I still needed the Fates' loyalty.
Atropos got a lucky hit on my shoulder, causing me to lose concentration. She followed it up with a slash to my ribs, before pushing me against the wall. With a dagger caressing my neck and another poking my ribs, I dropped the stiletto.
"Never come to Earth again. You hear me? Stay in your shitty hole out of our eyesight. Out of Gaia's eyesight." Atropos threatened.
Time to stop playing games. I blasted her with some of my power, causing her to fly across the room and lose consciousness. Sorry.
"Atropos, I'm sorry, but Earth hasn't seen the last of me."
I healed my wounds and looked back at the two other Fates. Fortunately, they didn't seem like they would attack me.
"Why have you summoned us, then?" Lachesis asked.
"Well, I would like for you three to join me against the Olympians. The three, no, two fates and myself against the gods. A definite win. But if you don't, at least stay neutral."
Lachesis scoffed. "I cannot go against the gods. They've done so much for me. I'm sorry. I will have to fight against you, but not today."
"What about you, Clotho?" One of them had to join me. All was lost if the three went against me!
"What will you give me if I stay neutral?" Clotho asked.
I smiled. "If you stay neutral, I promise you will have full control of the lives of demigods, mortals, and monsters. The oracle won't interfere with your wishes."
"That sounds great! Plus, the world needs a change. I'll stay neutral."
I sighed in relief inside. At least one of them won't fight against me. The Fates are at their greatest power when they work together, not separated.
"Clotho!" exclaimed Lachesis. "You're going to stay neutral? The gods have done so much for us!"
"But think of a world without the oracle! I can have full control of the non-deities!"
Lachesis groaned. "At least you're not going against them."
I smirked. Only Atropos was truly against me. My biggest competitors were now quasi-neutral!
"Clotho, let's bind your deal with me. I swear by the creator Chaos that in exchange for your neutrality, you and only you will have full control over demigods, mortals, and monsters!"
"I'll do it too," Clotho said. "I swear by the creator Chaos that I will stay neutral in your war against the Olympians!"
A tattoo of a loom burned on our upper arms, signifying the deal made. Only Chaos could unmake it, and they never did.
"What about you, Lachesis?" I asked. Maybe she would switch sides now that her sister remained neutral.
"I will have stay with the gods. But I promise I won't tell the Olympians of you or this meeting. I swear it on the creator Chaos."
A tattoo burned on Lachesis's forearm, but not on mine. There wasn't anything I could swear about with her.
Clotho asked, "What about Atropos? She is vehemently against you."
I looked at the form of Fate of Death. "Well, I'll just wipe her memory of this meeting."
I walked to her still unconscious body and put my fingers on her forehead. I started pulling her memories of the meeting to my hand. Atropos was stubborn, but she was no match for a primordial.
I turned back to look at the other two. "See you on the battlefield, Lachesis and Clotho. Bye!"
They nodded, and the three Fates left my room.
Mission partially accomplished.
The Fates were no longer my problem.
I went back to the observation room and watch what was going on on their quest. They were about to get off the buses!
Time to release my first surprise.
Annabeth POV
Cleveland, Ohio
We decided to have lunch at Cleveland. With the money Jake had, it wouldn't have been hard.
Percy decided that we should eat at a nearby fast-food restaurant, but I quickly said no. We deserved better food than something that was not nutritious. Boyfriends generally had bad food taste. Well, the night at Paris was great.
The five of us had lunch and a few drinks, so we decided to head out again. Thalia was in the bathroom and would join us in a while.
Oh no.
I noticed a pack of hellhounds and a couple cyclopes heading towards us.
"Percy, do you see the monsters there? Warn the others!"
He nodded and turned towards the group. "Guys, hellhounds and cyclopes are following us! We can fight them, but don't stray far away from the restaurant."
Unfortunately, Percy's shouting alerted the monsters as they ran towards us. Galloped? Stomped?
"Get in an open space to fight them!"
When we arrived at the lakefront, the monsters were only a couple dozen yards away. I unsheathed my dagger, Percy uncapped Riptide and went near the lake, Lou got a knife and some liquids out, and Jake unsheathes his own sword and a weird contraption.
A great team. Come get us, you slimy bastards!
I lunged at a first hellhound and stabbed it upside the nose before it process anything. Clearly, they thought I wouldn't be that aggressive. After it was disoriented, I climbed on its back and sliced its neck, disintegrating the hellhound into golden dust. The next monsters wouldn't be surprised easily.
I turned around, seeing two hellhounds gallop at me. I slid under one of their bellies, appearing behind it and stabbing one of its legs. It proceeded to try to hit me with its uninjured hind leg. I quickly rolled away from its attacks, unfortunately into the other hellhound.
It swiped its claws inches away from my face, knocking me over from the sheer force of the wind. Oof! I quickly scrambled away into the back of a tree. The hellhounds regrouped and growled at me, showing their disgusting yellow canines. Why did they ever exist?
The uninjured hellhound slapped its paws at my face, but I was prepared to roll away from its attack. The claws sliced the tree halfway, causing it to tilt dangerously. Not in my direction, but in the hellhounds' direction. I rushed towards them (in a moment of stupidity) and starting stabbing the trunk. The tree started to sway, leaving its leaves to fall on all of us. It finally collapsed on the hellhounds' hind legs.
Percy came up to me and smiled. Together for the end of the battle. I stabbed the first hellhounds' neck a few times, causing it to disintegrate into yellow dust. Percy did the same to the other one.
That took the breath out of me! I asked, "What are you doing here?"
Percy smiled and kissed me briefly. "You needed help, so I came here. Already got rid of two hellhounds and a cyclops."
I laughed. "The tree got it handled for me. I didn't need any help."
Percy rolled his eyes. "Sure. But let's kill that cyclops. He's been looking at us hungrily. Only I can do that."
"Percy!" I hit him in the arm. Inappropriate jokes were now part of my life. Ugh.
"Oh. There's another one."
"We got it, Annabeth. Let's go!"
I stabbed the first cyclops' foot, bringing him down in pain. It didn't hurt him that much, because he punched the ground to make me lose balance. After regained my balance, both of us were upright. Back to square one.
"Annabeth, look out!"
I moved to the side instinctively. The other cyclops's club was about to hit me, probably kill me!
I attacked the first one in the back quicker than last time. I slashed at his back and legs wildly, hoping to anger him into rash decisions. The cyclops started swinging his meaty arms around and bent down. I stepped back and jumped up, cutting his whole right arm off. He howled in pain and yelled, "I will kill you, half-blood!"
Yeah right. I smirked. I stabbed its thigh before it could recover from its injury. I climbed on its back, stabbed its behind twice. The cyclops screamed in pain and fell down on the ground. I stabbed its eye and its forehead, causing it to disintegrate.
Percy also finished the second cyclops. There were only a third of the original monsters. Jake didn't have any visible injuries, and neither did Lou. Jake was is a losing fight with two cyclopes, and Lou Ellen was fighting against two hellhounds.
Jake needed help, and I was going to give the help to him. Should I have let Percy, who had actual powers, deal with the cyclops? Maybe. But monsters are monsters at the end.
"Percy, help Lou!" I shouted.
Lou looked up and opened her mouth as if she was warning me about something. But what?
I didn't have enough time to look back at what she was seeing before a powerful force barreled into me. I fell forward, trying to brace the fall with my arms reflexively.
Only now, my arms got the brunt of the impact.
"AAH! Ow! Fuck!" I could feel something pop. Was it my elbow joint?
"Annabeth!" Someone cried.
"It's just my arms. Fight the monsters!" I shouted to whoever called me.
I pulled out some ambrosia and ate two squares. Or tried to. My arms hurt as bad as Tartarus. That would not be enough to burn me up.
I looked up from the ground and scanned the area. Lou Ellen killed a hellhound already, and Jake and Percy had dealt with one cyclops. Good. They were fine without me.
I turned back around to see whatever bumped into me.
Fuck. A hellhound. Looking especially murderous.
I was going to get mauled.
Trying to escape, I tried to sit up using my arms. Apparently, nobody told me they were still broken because I screamed in pain. Again.
The hellhound rammed into me for the second time, pushing me against a tree. That took the wind out of me! And a few broken bones.
I was going to die today. In front of a hellhound.
Not happening, bozo. "Come and get me, you piece of shit!"
Never say that much when you just lost Oxygen. Dizziness overtook me, but I was still able to grasp my knife and hold it in front of me. If I was going to die, so would my murderer.
The shadows behind the hellhound grew larger, suddenly ejecting a person.
"Nico!" I shouted.
Good. I wouldn't die today. Only lose consciousness. Those injuries took a toll on me.
"Go die, you fucker!" I screamed to the hellhound.
I collapsed on the tree and everything went black.
Nico POV
Cleveland, Ohio
After the incident with Octavian earlier, I stuck around to make sure Octavian didn't try anything against Hazel. She could handle herself, but Octavian knew people's weaknesses and how to silence them. He did it to me!
Too much time was spent overseeing the Romans, so I shadow-travelled to Cleveland to check in with the Greeks. Hazel could defend herself for now.
I had a sinking feeling in my gut.
What could be happening now? It was just the start of the quest.
Percy, Lou Ellen, and Jake were battling two hellhounds and a cyclops. But Annabeth was going to get rammed by a hellhound. She was backed against the tree, clearly not able to defend herself.
Annabeth would not die today. Mark my words.
I jumped on the hellhound's back and stabbed it using all my strength a couple times with my sword. The monster disintegrated into yellow dust, which quickly dissipated into my sword. One hellhound permanently gone!
Annabeth had already lost consciousness, so I laid her gently against the tree. Lou Ellen needed help killing the two hellhounds, but I wasn't needed. A spear protruded from one of their backs, and the hellhound disintegrated to dust.
Thalia Grace grabbed her spear and helped Lou Ellen finish off the other hellhound.
Thalia was here? Why?
Did something happen to the hunt?
I asked, "What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be with the hunt?"
Thalia grimaced. "Well, I got kicked out."
"Wait, what?"
She crossed her arms. "I don't want to talk about it now, okay!?"
I put my hands up. "Okay, okay!"
"Why are you on the quest? Shouldn't you be at Camp Half-Blood?"
"I can't enter Camp or Olympus. This was my only option."
A bit cryptic, but okay. "Cool."
The others joined us by now. Well, Percy was off worrying over Annabeth and feeding her nectar.
Thalia asked, "Death breath, what are you doing here?"
Why did Thalia have to ask about that? If I explained, they would know that I knew about the Roman camp for months. I would lose the little amount of trust I already had.
I lied. "The Olympians told me to watch over you and make sure you don't die, but I couldn't be on the quest. I'll explain later."
Thalia nodded a bit hesitantly. She was going to ask me more questions later. The others nodded, probably happy more demigods were on the quest.
We went to see Annabeth. Percy was force-feeding her ambrosia, and Lou Ellen was preparing a healing incantation.
"How bad is it?" I asked.
"She has three broken ribs, a fractured right arm, and a concussion," replied Lou Ellen, still getting materials out of her bag. "We would be waiting till sundown for Annabeth to regain consciousness, but this spell should wake her in one to two hours."
I sighed. I would have to stay here until Annabeth woke up. I checked her life force and found out it was weakened, but would bounce back soon. "She should recover by day's end."
"Guys, I'm going to IM someone. Don't disturb me," I told them.
I walked to the lake's edge and took out a drachma. I said, "Oh Iris, goddess of the Rainbow, please accept my offering. Show me Hazel Levesque."
I threw the drachma in the lake. Mist appeared, showing Hazel and the other Romans. For once, Octavian was not messing with her. In fact, he was doing his own thing, only glaring at Hazel sometimes. Hazel, ignoring him, was twirling her spatha.
"Passengers, we will arrive at our next destination, Reno, Nevada, in 10 minutes," the train intercom announced. "Thanks for riding Amtrak. We hope to see you again."
How could I make Hazel notice me? I didn't want the others to notice me, especially Octavian. I needed a secret sound with Hazel. Maybe an innocent bird sound. I made a cuckoo sound that made Hazel notice me.
She asked, "Nico, what are you doing here? What's this mist?" She pointed around it, so close to swiping and ending the message.
I whispered "Hazel, don't swipe the message. That will end it. This is called Iris-Messaging, a method Greeks use to communicate."
"Why are you talking to me then?"
"Shhh. Be quiet. I don't want the Romans to hear us."
Hazel looked back and nodded.
I continued, "Has Octavian been messing with you?"
Hazel chuckled. "Him? After that stunt in San Francisco, he doesn't even talk to me. He only glares at me from time to time."
I smiled. "Good. He will invoke my wrath if he messes with you again."
Hazel laughed again.
"Also, Hazel, don't be afraid of your curse over the metals. Use it to your advantage. It's a great power."
Hazel frowned. "But what if they find out? Octavian knows so much; he won't hesitate to expel me."
How could I phrase this? "It doesn't matter what they think of you. It matters what you think of you. And leave Octavian to me. He's not the only one with a silver tongue."
Hazel nodded. "Okay. I trust you."
I smiled and waved goodbye.
"Nico, what's this?" A voice behind me asked.
An angry Thalia had her arms crossed, waiting for an explanation. I could smell the burnt air!
I was fucked.
Could I jump in the lake?
Here is the sixth chapter of Greek meets Roman!
Summary: The enemy summons where the three Fates' allegiances are determined. The Greeks arrive at Cleveland, Ohio and get attacked by monsters. They defeat them, but Annabeth loses consciousness. Nico checks in with Hazel, but Thalia discovers the secret Iris-Message.
The previous chapter was a bit one-sided against the gods, so I changed the Fates' allegiance. I wanted to give them a side because nobody ever does. Clotho is neutral, Lachesis is semi-neutral, and Atropos is loyal AF to the gods.
Nico may seem way too protective of Hazel, but that's a normal older brother attitude. (Nico is older than Hazel.) As Hazel matures later in the story, the over protectiveness might even be a problem.
Annabeth getting defeated so easily may seem unrealistic, but think about it. She already killed multiple monsters and was pretty worn-out. Plus, she was attacked from behind. She does not have powers anyway.
How will Atropos react to the other Fates' allegiances? Will she even figure it out? Will Annabeth recover from her injury? How will Lou's spell affect her? How angry is Thalia at Nico? Will violence follow? How will Hazel react?
Have a great day and let's all Mystify!
