Someone was trying to make it look like he did the crime. If I knew anything, it was that Elston was not a criminal, he can be anything, but a criminal.
"You know it's hardly surprising all of your tea tastes like paper, now is it?" Elston said.
'Did I mention he was a sarcastic bastard as well? Cause he is, a major one.'
"Petty officer Bick was assigned guard duty, watch over 3 million in marked CIA cash." Gibbs said.
"Well, I am a liaison officer." Elston replied. I could just imagine the clueless look he was pulling off. "I just coordinate between the Royal Navy, U.S., and NATO forces."
"Where's the money?"
'Come on Gibb's you can't actually think he did it?'
"I have no idea."
"You own a Webley revolver?"
"I do, yes. It's in my flat in London."
"The, uh, flat in London that's in foreclosure?"
"I had a few poor investments in Greece."
I rolled my eyes. 'That was always his method. It was much easier than to sell. Or so he said. It made it easier for him to disappear.'
"Hmm, that's an interesting motive, stealing cash from the CIA's slush fund, that they wouldn't want it reported missing."
"Well, that's an interesting conjecture."
Papers shuffling was heard. "A call the night of the murder came from your cell phone. Four blocks from where the body was dumped."
"Right, well, there are only two tiny flaws in your theory here." You could hear the smirk on his lips. "I didn't kill anyone, and I didn't steal the currency. I mean where is the cash, Gibbs? Where is it? Where is any evidence for that matter? Where is DNA? Where is a murder weapon? Where is an eyewitness? You know, I-I should like to call the British consulate now, please." I could hear Gibbs gather up the papers, but what got my interest was Elston's heart. It was beating too fast, not of guilt or adrenaline, but out of fear. "All right, you have to press charges or I'm walking. You have absolutely no right to keep me here."
I jumped at hearing the door open and Gibbs walking out. But before I could run in, he blocked my way and closed the door behind him. With a growl, I scratched the door, begging to be let in. Gibbs ignored me, as he continued to walk on. With a scoff, I trotted over to the agent at the end of the hallway. Grabbing him by the sleeve, I pulled him towards the door and scratched it once more.
"You want in?" He cooed. Resisting the growl bubbling in my throat, I whimpered. "Alright." The man opened the door, without realizing someone was even inside. "There you go."
"You shouldn't be in here." Elston mumbled.
I scoffed. 'When has that ever stopped me.' Walking over to him, I placed my front paws on his leg and raised on my hind legs. Poking over his heart with my nose, I whimpered softly.
"You heard that huh?" Running a hand over my head, he sighed softly. "Don't worry about it love. This will all be over soon enough." We stayed there for a while, my head on his shoulder, while he ran his hand over it. It wasn't long before a rep from the British consul came to take him away. I followed him down to the bullpen and into the elevator. With a kiss on the head, he climbed on and left.
Gibbs walked out a few minutes later, asking for him. "He walked out a few moments ago boss." Tony replied.
"McGee track his cell phone." Gibbs ordered.
"On it." Tim frowned. "I can't. He's turned it off."
"Then track something from the past few weeks." Gibbs said, leaning next to him.
"Cell footprints." Tim smirked, as he typed away. "He's made multiple calls from a single location. Here in D.C.? I thought he was on a ship in Norfolk."
"Give me a location." Gibbs ordered as he grabbed his badge and gun. Tim gave him the address to a hotel in downtown. "Okay. Ziva, DiNozzo you're with me." I was quick to follow but was stopped by Gibbs. "No, you stay here." For once ignoring a direct order, I snapped at his leg causing him to jump back. Trotting into the elevator I stood between Ziva and Tony. Knowing very well, Gibbs was not going to lose time in simply trying to get me to stay. Besides, Elston was someone very special to me and I know for a fact he is innocent.
Once we arrived, we ran into the hotel and up to the second floor. I stayed at Gibbs right, trying to lock onto Elston's scent. Breaking into the room, I knew right away it was empty, only there was something else. The room didn't have his scent. Elston was never here. He was never in this room. Yet there was another scent, a very recent one. It was strong, irritating to the point really. I knew it belongs to another person, yet I have never encountered such person. Seeing Ziva confirm the money had been in the room, I just knew it. Someone was trying to set him up and judging by the look on Gibbs, I knew it was working.
"Malloy and the money both gone." Tony sighed, as he set out the BOLO for Elston.
'Damnit Elston, what did you get yourself into.'
So it appeared the government didn't want the money to be found. It was never supposed to actually exist in a way actually. Leon had ordered the team to stand off and drop the case. We had everything from air travel to underground travel covered and on the lookout for Elston. The team wanted to find him for the murder of the petty officer. I wanted to find him to make sure he was still alive. After we were called off the case, Gibbs drive us home. The second I was out of the car, his scent invaded my nose. Running to the door, I jumped and pranced, trying to hurry Gibbs in opening the door. The second he did, I stumbled into the living room and jumped. Elston groaned as my full weight landed on his chest.
"Happy to see you too." Giving me a small kiss on the head, he watched Gibbs walk in and raised the beer in his hand. "Cheer Gibbs. You know, it does read 'beer' on the label here, but unfortunately, it tastes rather more like horse excrement."
Gibbs grabbed a beer for himself and pulled up a chair. "MI-6 knows my address. I'm flattered."
"Yes, I do apologize if I misled you."
"What are you doing here, really?"
I perked up at the spiked jump in his heartbeat.
"I need your help."
Gibbs sighed. "I am not a lawyer."
Elston chuckled under his breath. "No, well, it's not your law that I'm in trouble with. It's much worse than that." He glanced up a somewhat juvenile look. "Do you have pretzels?"
Gibbs removed his watch, placing it on the table. "You have ten seconds..." He then took his gun out and placed it on the table. "Before I shoot you accidentally for trespassing."
"I've been set up." Elston sighed. I knew Gibbs would shoot if he really wanted to. Jumping off Elston, I grabbed Gibbs's gun and took it into the kitchen. Placing it on the kitchen table, I returned. Only to see Gibbs glaring at me. Giving his hand a lick, I jumped back on Elston once more. "You know I thought MI-6 was good, but your CIA, they're very impressive. That three million in marked CIA money, it was on the ship." Elston pulled a bulge of money out of his bag and tossed it onto the table. "10,000 dollars. That's for the beer. You keep the change."
Gibbs pulled dropped a 'nugget' on the table as well. "That's for the ship."
"Should be enough currency there for you to track the CIA frequency. That'll lead you to the rest, and to the person who is responsible."
"What's in it for me?" Gibbs asked.
"You get your killer."
"Mmm. What's in it for you?"
Elston scoffed/laughed. "I don't get killed."
I watched them both. I swear they were worse than two heated alphas. After a few more seconds, Gibbs smirked. "Alright then, let's get going."
"Going?"
"Yeah." Grabbing his keys and the money, he turned to me. "Give me back my gun." With a huff, I retrieved it back for him. "Come on." We followed him back to his car.
Elston sat in the front seat, as I sat in the middle. "How did you come by her?"
Gibbs tossed him a look. "Lance found her in one of the shelters. Next thing I knew, we have a K-9."
"You have no idea, just how lucky you are mate." His hands ran down my chest, causing me to whimper in delight.
"I have to ask, but do you know her?" Gibbs felt stupid asking such a question.
"Why do you say that?"
"She is never so welcoming to strangers." Gibbs said. "Still snaps at DiNozzo."
Elston laughed. "Yes, well, I have always been a wolf lover." I rolled my eyes, giving his hand a small nip.
As we walked into the bullpen, I was surprised to see the others still here and working. Especially Tony.
"Hey boss good news!" Tony grinned. "A guy fitting Malloy's description just paid cash for a ticket to Glasgow."
"It wasn't me." Elston grumbled.
"Gibbs, how did you find him?" Ziva asked.
Gibbs shook his head, writing something down on her pad. "I didn't. He found me." Grabbing Elston by the lapel of his jacket, Gibbs pulled him behind Ziva's desk. "Ziva, you watch him." Elston fought not to grin. "You watch him like Syria. Not Switzerland."
"Mmm-hmm."
I laid by his side making sure no one messed with him. At one point Elston sat on the floor, pulling my head on his lap. I quickly turned both him and Tony the second they began to talk about movies. If anyone could give Tony a run for his money on that subject was Elston. Or Malloy. I don't even know if he goes by that name anymore. The sound of Gibbs's voice woke me from my slumber. Looking up I saw the team huddled around the tv screen. Elston still sat on the ground, his head leaning against the cubical's wall.
"Malloy!" Gibbs yelled, causing Elston to startle. "There is a restroom right over there." He pointed to the door at the end of the hallway. "Luna watch him."
Walking behind him groggily, we stumbled into the room. He kicked his shoes off and shrugged his jacket off, before falling onto the bed. Half asleep, he pats his chest. With some trouble, I jumped onto the bed and laid half body on, half body off him.
"Reminds me of the last time I saw you." He whispered. "Your dad caught us, just like this. Nearly took my head off." I groaned. "I know what Gibbs is to you." Suddenly I wasn't sleepy anymore. Looking up at him, I nudged his chest. "It's alright Alex, but I still would like to give us a chance." Running his hand over my head, he dropped his head back with a sigh. "We were to be married anyways love, unite the packs."
'Yeah, but you decided to get in with MI-6!' I snapped.
"I know!" He growled, clearly knowing what I was angry for. "I know how bloody stupid that was. But I can't change it. I can simply let go and move on." Looking back at me, his eyes shifted. "Just think about it. After this is all over, I will leave MI-6 for good. Take my role in the pack. And I want you with me." He stopped me from reacting. "I know you found your mate. But remember, we can still mate and be happy. As long as you are near Gibbs and he is fine, you can be with anyone you want."
I frowned. 'Why does everyone keep saying that? I thought once you found your mate, that was it. No other being could make you happy or make you whole.'
Elston chuckled. "You still have a lot to learn pup."
Time jump:
I laid on the floor, beside Elston's chair as he pretended to be reading the paperwork. We were waiting for Petty Officer Bicks' murderer to arrive. Gibbs and the team were hiding just in the next room, waiting to make the arrest. The moment she walked in, her scent hit me like a ton of bricks. It was the same one from the hotel room.
"Sorry I am late." She grinned, placing the silver briefcase on the counter.
Elston pushed his chair back, turning to face her. "Yes, now I assume you'll be wanting to exchange this for smaller bills."
"What are you doing here?"
I walked around the counter, growling lowly. She tensed at seeing me, making a move as if she was about to run. 'Oh, I dare you to run bitch!'
Elston scoffed. "Give me the money, Tennison."
She quickly pulled a gun on. "Not so fast."
"Luna no!" Elston yelled, stopping my advances towards the woman. "An English pistol. You killed that yank sailor, didn't you?"
"I killed him because he saw what I was doing. And he tried to stop me." She pulled the hammer back. "Don't make the same mistake he did."
In one swift motion, I jumped onto the counter. Standing between her and Elston, growling as she kept the gun aimed at me. 'I will rip out your throat before you can pull that trigger!'
"I think you just made the mistake."
At that moment Gibbs and the others walked in, taking the gun and handcuffing the woman. She blabbed on about, how she was saving lives by keeping the money. And that our government was helping the bad guys. Nothing new woman! Sitting on the counter, I grinned as she was hauled out. Gibbs gave Elston a small nod, before calling me to him. I paused for a moment, glancing back at him.
'I don't want you to leave.' I whimpered, pushing my head into his chest.
Elston smiled softly, hugging me. "I am going to give this money back and come right back. We need to talk." Giving me a kiss on the head, he pulled away. "Go on Alex."
Jumping off the counter, I refused to look back at him. It wasn't a goodbye, simply a see you later. But still, it always hurt to leave someone you love behind.
