P.S: Tony is going to have some competition.
Elston chuckled, moving his hand towards my belly. 'Well, you can call me whatever name pleases you.'
I sighed, stretching myself even more. Moving my head up to his shoulder, I buried my nose in the crook of his neck. 'Elijah. I always loved that name.'
'Very well.' Elston glanced down at his watch. 'It seems that every time I am with you, time seems to fly by.'
'Hmm? What time is it?'
'5 pm.'
I jumped off the couch, shocked to see the sun going down. 'But, I just got here.'
'Like I said, time fly's when you are here.' Elston stretched himself, reaching for the cabin door. 'Want to head back?'
I wasn't sure how to respond to that. A part of me wanted to return and make sure Gibbs was fine. But I also didn't want to see him and Lisa together. Here, with Elston, I was cared for and loved in a way. I didn't have to worry about anyone coming and taking my spot in his life. I had no fear of being thrown out or treated as a pet. Together we were a pack. 'Can I spend the night here with you?'
Elston was surprised, but non the less he closed the door. 'You don't need to ask Alex. Where I am, you will always have a place.'
'Thank you.'
The next morning, I was awoken by the sound of the forest. Birds chirping and singing. The nearby stream flowing through the woods. It was a pleasant change from the blaring alarm that usually woke me up. I frowned at the extra weight holding me down. Titling my head to the right, I spotted Elston's head draped over my neck. Just before bed, he had shifted and wrapped himself around me. It had been a long time since I have had the comfort of my kind. Giving him a quick lick on the muzzle, I slowly crawled out from underneath him. If the clock on his wall was correct, I was already late.
'It's too early.' Elston mumbled, curling tighter into a ball.
'I have to go back, Gibbs should be up and ready.' Stopping at the front door, I cursed at my curse. 'A little help.'
Elston chuckled, shifting back. "Am I going to have to get a doggy door?" I snapped at his heel, getting a simple laugh in return. "Be safe."
Opening the door for me, I bolted out the door and headed to the house. By the time I got there, Gibbs was standing by the back door. As I got closer I spotted a rope in his hand. Stopping a few feet away from him, I stared at him.
"Thought I was going to have to send out a search party for you." Gibbs said, taking a sip of his coffee. "Come on, let's get going."
I refused to move. The last time someone held a rope, I was latched on the other end. 'Drop the rope.'
"Luna let's go." Gibbs called.
'Drop the rope.'
Gibbs took a step forward, only to stop at the sound of my growl. "What's wrong?" Taking another step, I growled louder. "Luna?" After finally taking the hint, he quickly dropped the rope and took a knee. "Hey, it's fine. Come here."
Trotting over to him, I was suddenly hit by her scent. She was still here. 'Seriously?! One fucken day, that is all I ask for. One day!' And just my luck, she had to appear just then.
"Jethro, you are going to be late." Lisa called from the door. "Ah, she's back."
"Yeah, she just showed up." Gibbs sighed.
"Well, don't let her in here please Gibbs. I don't want her attacking the puppy again." Lisa snared, tossing me a murdering look. "Are you going to ask one of your teammates to take her? Just until we re-home the pup."
'Take me in?' I glanced at Gibbs, then back and her and back at him. 'Bitch you must be crazy, there is no way in hell he will-'
"Yeah, I spoke with Ziva." Gibbs whispered.
'Wh-what?' I always heard about wolves being hurt by their mates. Regardless of it being unintentional, it hurt like a bitch. Imagine a needle prickling your heart over and over, with no signs of stopping. He would rather get rid of me, than work something ou- 'What the hell am I saying! I am a wolf! Not his pet!' Seeing his hand reach out towards me, I quickly dodged it and took off running towards the woods again.
"Luna!"
I stopped, fighting the urge to go to him. I was not going to be made a mockery off. I was not going to be treated like some dog, he can move to the side when a bitch appears. Without sparing him a glance, I took off towards the one place I now felt safe. Breaking through the thick bushes, I took in a deep breath.
"Back so soon?" Elston stood on the porch, leaning against one of the beams. He wore a nicely fitted black suit. Seeing my lack of response, he made his way over to me. 'Alex, what's wrong?'
'Nothing, but could you give me a ride?'
Elston frowned. 'Ride?'
'To Ziva's place.'
'Hey, what happened?'
I really didn't want to get into it. I knew how and what he was going to say. And frankly, I just didn't want to hear it. 'I don't want to talk about it.'
Elston sighed running a hand through my neck's fur. "Don't you just love humans?" Pulling out his keys, we made our way to his car.
The ride was quiet. No talking and no music. Just us and the road ahead. Elston held onto my paw, stroking it with his thumb. I stared out the window, watching as everything flew past me. This was my life right now. Time flying past me with no way of putting a pause on it. I needed to stop, take a step back, and just breathe.
"We're here love." Elston had stopped a block away.
'I will be staying here for a while with Ziva.' I stated.
Elston clenched his jaws as he climbed out of the car and rushed to open my door. "I'll come by every day to check on you."
'Thank you.'
He reached down, grabbing me by under my jaw. "You will never have to thank me for anything Alex. From here on out, I will always be at your call." Leaning down, he planted a kiss on the side of my muzzle. "I will see you later."
'Bye.' Watching me drive off, I made my way to Ziva's apartment. She lived on the third floor, which meant stairs. I really hated stairs. Spotting a young later with a stroller, I quickly stood by the side of the stroller and walked with them. The doorman was none the wiser, as I slipped by him. Giving the little girl a lick on the hand, I ran towards the stairs and waited for someone to open the door. Unfortunately, it had happened to be a security guard.
"Hey!"
Running in between his legs, I dashed up the stairs, leaping over two steps at a time. I could hear him hot of my trail. Reaching the third floor, I jumped pushing the door open. It wasn't hard to locate Ziva's scent in the hallway. Reaching unit 128, I scratched, banged, and barked at the door. Just as she opened it, I felt a pair of unknown hands latch onto my collar.
"Gotcha!"
"Luna!" Ziva was quick to react, pulling me towards her. "Wait she is mine."
"Yours?" The guard asked, clearly not believing her. "She came from the streets."
"That was my fault. She tends to sneak out when I am not watching her." Successfully getting the man to let go, she pushed me into her apartment. "It won't happen again, I promise."
"Very well, but remember all dogs need to be on a leash at all times."
"Got it." Closing the door on him, she exhaled deeply. "That was a close one. Now, what the hell are you doing here?" Kneeling on the wooden floor, she checked me over. "You could have been sent to the pound Luna."
'Sorry.' Licking her cheek, I trotted over to her couch. 'I am not about to ask for permission.'
Ziva chuckled, gesturing her to jump up. "Something tells me that even if I say no, you're still going to get on."
Ziva walked into the kitchen, grabbing a bowl and filling it with water. Placing it on the floor, she grabbed her phone and called Gibbs.
'Gibbs.'
"Hey Gibbs, Luna is here."
'Here where?! Your place?'
"Yes, she showed up at my door. Did you drop her off?"
'No! She ran off this morning.'
"From your house? That's a good 20 miles." Ziva turned towards me with a shocked look. "I am on my way to work now."
'Alright.'
Placing her phone in her back pocket, she sighed. "I am guessing Gibbs did something to upset you?"
'Damn right.'
"Alright well then, let's go." Grabbing her keys, we headed out the door. I stayed by her side, trying not to wander off too much.
"Hello, Ziva."
I jumped at the sudden voice of a man behind us. 'Who the hell are you?'
"Eyal, good morning."
I noticed the slight jump her heartbeat gave. Her blood was rushing through her body and her damn hormones were off the roof. 'Great a lovesick agent.' Turning my attention to the man, I had to admit, Ziva had good taste. He stood at least 6'1. Broad shoulders, dark-haired with a shadowy goatee. Standing between the two of them, I sniffed him out. 'Damn he smells good.'
"Off to work?" Eyal asked.
Ziva nodded. "Yes, I am off to work. You off to work as well?"
If I could I would have facepalmed myself and her. 'Why must we always make a fool of ourselves?'
Eyal chuckled, giving her a charming smirk. "No actually, I am off this week. So I will be free."
"Oh, that's great." Ziva mumbled, dropping her gaze down at her hands. "Finally going to get that list of yours done?"
'Oh my god! Take a hint woman!' Knowing she wasn't going to do it on her own, I walked over to the man. Sitting in front of him, I gave out a small yelp. 'Hello! Wolf looking for attention!'
Eyal glanced down a smile breaking loose. "Hello, beautiful." Crouching down on one knee, he gently stroked my neck and head. "What's her name?"
"Oh her name is Luna." Ziva replied. "She's the wolf I told you about."
"Well, in that case. Thank you very much, Luna." Giving my head a small pat, he stood back up.
"Thank you for what?" Ziva asked.
Eyal took a step closer to her, just enough to make her even more uncomfortable (in a good way). "For protecting you from that dog. Had she not, I wouldn't be able to have dinner with you."
'Okay, now that was smooth.'
"Dinner?"
"If you would do me that honor, that is." Eyal has her a hopeful look.
Ziva tried not to show it too much, but the woman was about to burst out blushing. "I would love to."
"Great, tomorrow night? Say 8 pm?"
"Yes."
Stepping back, he gave a small bow bidding us goodbye.
"So what do you think about him?" Ziva asked as we walked towards her vehicle.
'He seems nice.'
"He seems like a good guy right?" She held the door open, allowing me to jump in. "Still, there is something about him."
'Well, he smells really good.'
"Did you smell him?!" Ziva groaned. "I wonder what he uses." Starting the car up, she tossed me a look.
"How do you know?"
'Know?'
"When you have picked the right one. I mean I know wolves mate for life." Ziva said.
'I don't even know nowadays. I found my mate, but I don't think that's going to work out. Now an old flame reappears and I think I might have found someone I can build my life with.'
"You probably don't understand what I am saying." Ziva sighed, pulling the car into the garage. "Alright, time to get to work."
'Time to face Gibbs.'
