Prompt: Workaholic.

So, a friend and I have this headcanon that Heyna is like the one that keeps the palace running. She does the paperwork and the finances (Smalls definitely wouldn't do those) and manages the servants and everything. It might seem weird, but we love it. :) She also like knows everything, so that's where this comes from. :D

Smalls entered the small office and rubbed his eyes. It was too late to be up, but if he didn't get up at three a.m. he might never get it.

His candle lit up the small room as he entered another office through it and stopped short, his eyes darting around in surprise.

Heyna sat at the desk, working busily at paperwork. Without raising her head she greeted him. "Sire. Might I ask what you are doing up?"

"I—I needed something," he stammered. By Flint, Smalls, have more composure than that. "I needed to get something," he said again, more clearly and loudly.

Heyna hummed in reply, still not looking up from the document she was working on.

"What are you doing up?" Smalls' tone was sharper than it should have been, but it was three a.m., and he hadn't wanted to run into anyone.

"Working. There is much to get done before the feast in three days."

"Well, yes, but—" But you should go to bed so I can get the paper out of your desk.

She signed the bottom of the page and finally looked up at him. "I seem to have disturbed you. Allow me to get out of your way and go to my chamber to finish up." There was the slightest hint of a smile on her face as she reached into her pocket and locked the desk drawer, then replaced the key and strode from the room. "Good luck and good night, Your Majesty," she said, pausing at the doorway. "I don't think you can get in there without my key." Then she left.

Smalls stared after, stupefied. How in Natalia did she know he wanted to get in her desk drawer? Did she know what he wanted, too?

He hastened over to her desk to see if maybe she'd left it out, but the only thing there was a note. He picked it up.

Smalls, it read, please don't try to change the menu on the document I signed last night. Stewed spinach in pumpkins is a traditional dish for those from Blackstone Citadel and must be included in the spread of the Feast. And yes, the king must sample every dish. Even the queen agrees with me. Good night.

He groaned. Spinach and pumpkin was absolutely awful. But how did she know?

Reply to Ann: T_T I know! T_T Helmer is so good.
