Stepping out of the elevator, I followed Ziva into the bullpen. You ever felt those annoying butterflies in your stomach? Like when you're in trouble and on your way to the dean's office. Yes? Well, that's how I felt at this moment. I knew leaving was the right thing to do, but that didn't make facing him any easier. He was still my 'boss' in some way.
"Morning Gibbs." Ziva took a seat at her desk, starting the computer up.
"Morning Ziva." His voice echoed in my ears.
I stood in the middle of the floor, head down. I was waiting for a reprimand or lashing out, but instead, I got nothing. Looking up, I was meet with cold blue eyes. He was mad? 'The nerve of this asshat! I should be the angered one. He kicked me out. Picked her over me!' Yet here I was asking for his forgiveness. God, I was pathetic, but not anymore. I will not beg him for something he will never be able to give me. With a low snarl, I made my way towards my new housemate's desk. Crawling under the desk and settling in for the day.
Third point of view:
Gibbs watched as she laid under Ziva's desk. He wasn't sure what had gotten into her these last few days. The running away and snapping at Lisa was all very strange. Maybe Lisa was right and had created too strong of a bond with her. She was a wild animal, and he kept treating her like a pet dog. Hopefully staying with Ziva, she will find a much stable place.
Throughout the day, the team caught up on backed-up paperwork. For once in a long time, they didn't receive a new case.
Alex took this opportunity to trot around the building. She hadn't really explored the building, since she always stayed by Gibbs's side. To her surprise, there were a lot more agents than she was aware of. Even much more surprised at the fact that half the department didn't know about her. At one point some dude jumped on his desk and yelled wild wolf. Abby had to come down and "catch" the wild wolf.
And these guys were agents?
Still, that got her a yelling from Gibbs. Something about it not being okay to wander off and scare the rookie agents. Again she took to laying under Ziva's desk. That was her entire day's routine. Walk around, eat and sleep. She needed to go out, run and get some air. She was not meant to be cooped up all day!
Crawling out from under the desk, She gave out a loud howl. 'Can we get a case already!' Dropping dramatically on the floor, she whimpered non-stop.
"What's up with her?" Tony mumbled, yet not once stopping what he was doing.
Tim glanced over his computer and shrugged. "Looks like she's bored."
Ziva walked around her desk and kneeled beside her. "I don't think it's that. Gibbs had mention she has been acting strange."
Alex huffed. 'What does he know.'
Tim suddenly appeared by her side as well. "Think she might be sick?"
"Probably rabies." Tony mumbled.
'I hate you sometimes.' Alex growled.
Tony dramatically pointed a finger at her. "See she is already going rabid!"
"Tony shush." Ziva snapped. "I think we should take her to the vet."
"Alright, you take her and I'll let director Vance and Gibbs know." Tim said.
Alex rolled her eyes at their dramatic thinking. All she did was huff and lay on the ground. 'I am just bored! Not dying.' Come to think of it, can you really die of boredom? Feeling Ziva attempt to pick her up, Alex huffed and stood. 'Well if it's going to get me out of here, I might as well go along with it.
What's the worse that can happen?'
"Da-vid and Luna?" A small red-haired girl called out our names, holding a clipboard.
Ziva walked them into a room. "Up." She patted the table.
It wasn't long before the vet came in. He was an older gentleman. He's what a lot of people would call a silver fox. "Good afternoon, I am Dr. Cartman." Washing his hands, he grabbed the clipboard on the counter. "Says here you are not sure what is wrong with her?"
Ziva nodded. "Just small things that are not like her."
Putting the clipboard down, he finally looked at her. "Wow, okay. I know my nurse said she was unique, but I was not expecting a wolf." He held his hand in front of her nose, urging her to sniff.
Alex held back the urge to bite him. She hated when humans did that. 'I am not a dog.' Ignoring his attempt in greeting, she laid down. 'Just tell her I am fine so we can leave already.'
"How did you come about getting her?" The vet asked.
"She is actually our team's K-9. I work with NCIS." Ziva explained.
The vet nodded, running his hands down her shoulders and neck. "Keeping her active and busy is very good. Hybrids are not like your average dog. So the more you stimulate their minds and keep them working the better."
'Dude, your hands are freezing.' Alex growled as he ran a hand over her stomach. 'At least warn me.'
Giving her a gentle stroke on the neck, he took a seat on his little rolling chair. "Well, she shows no signs of discomfort. And I felt nothing out of place. What exactly are you worried about?"
Ziva shrugged. "I might be paranoid, but she just hasn't been acting the way she does."
"Okay give me an example." The vet said.
"She has been agitated. Running off into the woods and not coming back for hours or days." Ziva said.
'Okay, it was one day!'
"She usually stays with my boss. He explained to us, how she is fine one moment and the next she reacts unexplainably."
Cartman hummed with a nod. "Have you seen other wolves in the area?"
"Once." Ziva still remembered the day Alex brought over the injured wolf. She wasn't about to mention their latest encounter with a wolf.
"I am not an expert with wolves, but I have studied them during my trip to Yellow Stone. When she suddenly changes behavior around your boss, is it towards him or someone with him?"He wheeled himself closer to Alex, examining her once again. "I studied a pack of wolves during my stay and I noticed one thing."
Ziva frowned. "It's always someone with him. In particular his girlfriend."
'Oh, please don't say what I know you're going to say.' Alex groaned, covering her face with her paw.
"In the pack, the female would always wander off at the coming in season. They would fight other females off their potential mate." The vet explained. "Could be she is going into season. And she sees your boss as her potential mate."
'God, please make him stop!' Alex snapped at his hands, successfully getting them off her. 'You really need to go back and study. Females don't fight other females for mates. That is the male's job. Secondly, that is not why I was moody. I was just bored!'
Ziva chuckled nervously, pulling Alex towards her. "Sorry, sometimes I think she understands what we are saying. How can we help her or stop this behavior."
The vet sighed, wheeling towards the sink and washing his hands once more. "There are two options. One you let her breed, preferably with a dog. You want the puppies being more domestic than wild." He gave her a look. "Because only lord knows how this one is so domestic."
"She's part dog." Ziva said in the most obvious tone.
Cartman chuckled, shaking his head. "Forgive me, but whoever told you that was lying. That is a wolf, no dog, just a wolf."
Alex was starting to get uneasy. 'Does he know what I am?' No there was no way. Besides how would he know about us, there are so few left as it is.
"Okay, what's the other option?" Ziva asked.
"We spay her."
Alex growled, standing in a defensive stand. Her fur-raising as she bared her teeth. 'You can try asshole!'
Ziva as the vet was surprised by her reaction.
Kneeling beside her, Ziva stroked her fur mane. "Calm down Luna, no one is going to do anything to you."
'You got that right!' Alex snarled.
Ziva gathered the leash in her hand, trying to keep Alex from tearing a new airway in his throat. "I will have to talk with the team. See what we think might be best."
"Very well, but do hurry. She should be going into season pretty soon." The vet replied, opening the door for Ziva.
Once outside Alex stopped her growling, mauling over what the good doctor had said. He wasn't in the all wrong, she was close to her heat. For those of you that don't know, werewolves do have 'seasons'. We don't really know why seeing we can get pregnant anything we want. But at the same time, it was for the un-mated wolves.
You see many wolves as you know are rejected by their mates for one reason or another. Others their mates may have died before they knew them. So the heat cycle worked as a new mating ritual. It allows you as a human and as a wolf to accept the person you have chosen as your mate. Your bond is strong, but will never be strong as that of a true mate.
NCIS:
Alex quickly darted towards Ziva's desk. She really didn't want to hear what they were to say. It was embarrassing enough.
"Hey, so what's the verdict?" Tony asked. "Rabies."
"No, according to the good doctor, Luna is just in the mood for puppies." Ziva said, getting nothing, but confused looks. She really didn't want to get into the detail, so she picked the quickest explanation. "Luna is going into in heat. So we either pick her a boyfriend or we get her spayed."
Tony laughed, hitting the desk with his palm. "So she needs to get laid?"
"Well, what are we going to do?" Tim asked, shoving
Tony away from him. "Knock it off Dinozzo."
"I don't know, we would have to ask Gibbs and the director." Ziva said.
And that is how Alex found herself in the middle of Vance's office, with everyone talking about her sex life.
"Spay her." Gibbs shrugged.
'I am sorry what?!' Alex growled. 'You of all have no right to decided that!'
"I don't think she agrees boss." Tim chuckled. "I say we let her breed." That got him a murdering look from Gibbs.
"She is a working dog. We don't have the time to deal with a pregnant wolf and then caring for who knows how many pups." Gibbs argued, he wasn't sure what he was so against it. But he just didn't like the idea of Luna getting bred. "I say we spay her and be done with it."
Vance sighed, running a hand over his head. He wasn't sure why exactly he was being dragged into this, but none the less they were here. "Look, what is the benefit of her getting spayed?"
"She no longer has the urge to breed and wander off." Ziva said.
'That's so not true.' Alex mumbled. Lord help whoever tried to touch her. 'I will always have those urges.'
"But we would be risking losing the trust she has in us." Tim was quick to jump in.
Gibbs frowned, leaning forward in the chair. "What do you mean?"
"Wolves are loyal animals. They will put their lives in their pack's hands, so if we take her to an unknown place. Where she will be probed by strangers and put to sleep, she will lose trust." Tim explained. "In her eyes, we placed her in danger willingly and took away her ability to be a mother."
'He gets it, why can't the rest of you.' Walking over to Tim, Alex head-butted his leg. 'Thank you.'
Kneeling down beside her, he held her in his arms. "I say we leave her be."
"I have to agree with McGee on this one." Tony spoke up for the first time. "Besides we are dealing with a wolf, not a dog."
Vance nodded, happy to put an end to this debate.
"Fine, leave her be."
'Thank you, lord!'
Alex's POV:
The moment they opened the door I bolted out of the office. That was too close of a call to my liking. But what really hurt me was Gibbs's goal in making me sterile. What was up with that? I mean I get the whole stop breeding and adopt thingy, but damn.
"We should get Jethro to breed with her." Tony said.
I stopped in my tracks, glancing up at him. 'Are you serious right now?!'
"I was thinking of maybe a husky." Tim suggested. "Keep the wolf look going."
'Oh come on!'
Ziva stared at me, tilting her head to the side with a nod. "A neighbor of mine has an all-white husky. We can use him."
'Alright, that's it.' Pushing past them, I ran towards the bullpen only to hit something. I had turned to glance behind me and failed to see what was in front of me. 'Ow.' Looking up at the object of my pain, I was meet with blue eyes. He was covered in his coffee, clearly hot. 'Crap.'
"Dammit Luna, how many times do I have to tell you to stop running around!" He snapped, quickly reaching for my collar. "Ziva the leash."
Ziva was confused by the event occurring but nonetheless handed him the leash. "What happened?"
Gibbs sighed, hooking the leash to my collar. "I don't want her running around the office. She is going to cause trouble. Take her down to the kennel in the garage."
'Wait what?!' I was shocked. 'You can't be serious right now! Gibbs!' Of course, all they heard were whimpers and howls. I tried to make him look at me. Acknowledge what he was doing, but he didn't. 'God dammit Jethro!' Ziva's tried her best to pull me away, but I hooked my nails into the carpet. 'I am not going into a cage!' Gibbs still refuses to acknowledge me or my pleas. 'You can't make me!' Atlas they did. Tony had come up behind me and picked me up. Between him and Ziva, they carried me into the elevator and into the garage.
Ziva held the gate open, allowing Tony to place me in. "I am so sorry Luna."
I sat there without moving. Just sat on the cold concrete floor. He just discarded me like nothing. Yelled at me and threw me into this cage. He treated me worse than an actual animal. My own mate. My so call soulmate. Dropping my head down, I couldn't help, but let out a whimper.
Ziva couldn't keep seeing her in such a state. Walking into the kennel, she took a seat next to me. Grabbing my two legs, Ziva laid me over her lap and patted me gently. "It's alright Luna. This isn't for long. Just a few more hours and I'll take you home with me. No cage and big bed."
Closing my eyes, I leaned into her warmth. 'Thank you.'
"Wonder what got into Gibbs?" Tony asked. He had busied himself with refilling the water bowl and setting some blankets on the dog bed. "He's cared about Luna the most since she came here. Hell, he was the one that blew a fuse when he saw this kennel."
"I don't know. Since this morning he has been short temper with her." Ziva whispered. Having seen my eyes closed, she believed I had fallen asleep. "Anything and everything she does today, has set him off."
Tony sighed, crouching in front of us. "Well, he better figure out whatever he has going on. Luna won't handle this well."
I felt him reach out towards me hesitant. I had planned on scaring him but decided not to. Instead, I allowed him to pet my head. Opening my eye and locking them with his, he froze. The fear of getting bit, caused him to go rigid. 'Alright, time to fix this.' Pushing myself off Ziva, I shoved Tony onto his ass and flopped myself onto his lap. 'I would never hurt you just for the heck of it. I trust you with my life. Hope you can too.' Using my snout, I shoved at his hand.
"She wants you to pet her Tony." Tim had appeared from behind Tony, with a plate of raw meat.
Tony chuckled nervously as he petted my head and neck. "Wow, she's soft."
'Thank you. It's natural.'
"Hate to break up this miracle moment, but Gibbs wants us all back upstairs." Tim said, giving me a few scratches.
Tony frowned, holding me tight in his arms. "And Luna?"
'Yeah! What about me?'
All we got in response was a shake of his head. Bidding my goodbyes to the three of them, I made my way to the pile of blankets Tony had set up. I watched as they made their way into the elevator and disappeared. It was quiet in the garage. No outdoor sounds, no cars running. Nothing.
'This is going to be hell.' Closing my eyes, I decided sleep was the only thing I could do.
