Lou Ellen POV
Cleveland, Ohio

Oof.

Sleeping spells were always one of the more taxing spells, especially against a strong-willed and powerful like Thalia. But I wasn't the most powerful spell-caster in Camp Half-Blood for nothing. Plus, her anger made it easier to get access to her brain and alter her circadian rhythm.

But why was Thalia fighting so much against Nico? There had to be something else, something... deeper. They were going to have fix this conflict because I was not putting another person to sleep.

Nico whispered something into Thalia's ear, something I couldn't hear. Nico was always a weird kid, but all this over an Iris-Message? Why was he so adamant about ending the IM? He was weird and now suspicious.

But, health came first. "Are you okay?" I asked. "Thalia can hurt when she's angry, but I would call that fury."

Nico smiled, dusting dirt and leaves off of his clothes. "I'm fine, and thanks for the help. Are you okay? Electric shoves hurt, from experience."

"It was a new sensation, but Thalia didn't put a lot of power into it."

I turned around to check on Jake, who was glaring hard at Nico. "Do you need any nectar? Thalia hit you pretty hard."

"I'm good. Fortunately, Thalia didn't use electricity when she punched and kicked me. Care to explain her violence, Nico?"

Jake walked over to Nico, towering over his short and thin frame. He won't escape us this time.

Nico held his hands up. "I'll tell you, I will. Just don't go batshit crazy like Thalia did, alright?"

"Maybe," I replied. "Just tell us. We don't need secrets dividing us and the quest."

"Let me tell this with Percy present. He would need to hear it."

"Can you pick Thalia up, Jake?" I asked.

Jake sighed before muttering to himself something. He lifted Thalia's body and carried her across his torso, while we walked over to where Percy and Annabeth were.

Percy was sitting and calmly looking at Annabeth. Couples. So adorable, with Annabeth's serene face and Percy's loving one.

How could you love someone so deeply?

The look of intense love and extensive care. Their relationship looked so nice, nothing that I could ever had. Nobody could look at me with love in their eyes, no one would protect me so strongly, and nobody would care about me that much.

What did I have? I was Hecate's daughter, the most powerful demigod sorceress in the world. Everyone thought that I was a master manipulator, using magic on them 24/7.

I wasn't bad. Why were they raised with the belief that magic is bad?! Magic is just like a weapon, only more complicated. It's the person wielding magic nefariously who's bad, not magic itself.

Jake laid Thalia down next to Annabeth. Percy looked up in surprise, asking, "What's wrong? Why is Thalia asleep? Was there a fight?"

"Guys, there is something I have to tell you," Nico said. "There's been a lot I haven't told you."

Nico bombarded us with everything: his position at the Roman camp, his position on the quest, and the interaction on the IM.

Nico answered most of the questions we asked, but there was still one needed to be asked. "Who were the people in the IM? The ones we'll meet in the middle?"

Nico looked away to the lake with his hands in his pocket, straight-out ignoring me. Such nonchalance! Why does he always do that!?

"Nico! Can you hear me? Who were the people in the Iris-Message!?"

Nico looked at Thalia's sleeping body and whispered, "I can only tell you 3 of them. I swore never to tell any Greek demigod who the fourth one was.

There is Hazel Levesque, my half-sister. She's the sweetest and strongest demigod I know." So the Roman god Pluto had a daughter. Did that break the oath or not? "There's also Reyna, the praetor of Camp Jupiter. She's the leader-"

Nico suddenly covered his ears with his hands. He dropped down in a fetal pose, his face scrunching up. What was happening? We didn't need a third member of the quest unconscious!

"Nico, are you okay?" Percy asked, pulling him up from the ground.

Nico's eyes were open wide and blood red, like ones of an insane or frantic person. "Something went really wrong with Hazel! I have to check up on her now! See you guys later!"

Nico ran into the nearest shadow and disappeared before you could say 'Katy Perry'.

Ugh! I kicked a rock and groaned.

Nico was about to tell us about who we were going to meet and who was causing the strife between him and Thalia! But now, we only knew about two people, not all four. Why did Hazel have to get injured now? I mean, I care about demigods' health, but Nico always disappeared at the worst of times. No wonder Camp wasn't fond of him.

I turned back to the group. Percy asked me, "So, is Thalia okay? What did you do, Lou?"

I raised my eyebrows at his suspicion. Even Percy, the champion of minor gods, couldn't trust me, Hecate's daughter. No wonder Alabaster left Camp.

"I cast a spell on her that made her sleep. She should wake up at the same time as Annabeth wakes up. Which reminds me, I should check on her."

I knelt down next to Annabeth and checked her wound and vitals. She had a high fever, but that was expected from becoming knocked out. Her heartbeat was a bit slow. Something suspicious was happening to Annabeth's wound. I couldn't tell it with my five senses. Time for a magical potion!

Percy must have noticed something wrong since he asked, "Lou, what's wrong?"

I got a white vial out of my bag and poured a teaspoon of the white liquid on my hand. I replied, "Everything about Annabeth's vitals is normal, or expected. But something is happening near the wound. This liquid will allow me to figure out what's wrong."

I grabbed a serrated leaf from the grass around me. Serrated leaves were the only way the potion would work. I soaked half of the leaf into the liquid in my hand and brushed them over each of my corneas.

The potion would to make anything that my eyes see transparent so I could see wounds and hidden fractures in bodies. Why a serrated leaf is the activating agent, I have no idea. Blame Hecate.

I first checked on the others to see if anything underlying was affecting them. Jake was fine, but his brain and body was exhausted. Probably because he worked in the forges all the time. Children of Hephaestus were workaholics! Percy was fine, even though he had much more water in his body than the average demigod. Must be a Poseidon thing. Thalia's brain was fiery, full of electrical synapses. A Zeus thing. How do I look like?

Onto Annabeth. Annabeth's wound was fluctuating. A lot. It was healing and mending itself at some times, but then worsening for the other half. Why was this happening? Even without my spell, the wound wouldn't worsen.

Did I do something wrong with my spell? My ingredients were all right, I applied them correctly. All I had to do was to leave the spell fester for 15 minutes, give or take one minute.

Fuck!

Annabeth had that spell for at least 20 minutes! Not even 16!

Oh my gods!

I cast the healing spell for 10 minutes until Thalia and Nico got into their fight, and Jake and I had to mediate between them. I shouldn't have left this clearing! Fuck!

Percy asked, "Is Annabeth all good? I mean, is the wound okay?"

I took a deep breath, and broke the news to him. "I overcast the healing spell. It's supposed to last at most 16 minutes. But Thalia and Nico got into a fight so I forgot to remove the spell. This overdo is causing Annabeth's wound to fluctuate."

Percy gasped and shook my shoulders. Bit dramatic?! I moved his hands away.

"What do you mean? Will the injury exist forever?"

"What I said was true. However, Annabeth will remain in her coma if I don't fix this."

"Does that mean what I think it means?" Jake asked.

"Yes. If I don't fix my mistake, Annabeth will be comatose forever."

Percy's eyes opened wide with shock, and a few tears escaped his face. Jake gasped and sat down on a nearby tree. Percy ran his fingers through his hair, incessantly whispering. "Are you sure there isn't anything you can do?"

To tell you the truth, I forgot. There were so many spells and counter-measures to remember if you were a child of Hecate that I forgot the healing one! I mean, nobody goes wrong on a healing spell, so we don't learn the counter-measure.

"I can't think of anything, but I'll give a call to someone to stop the effect. Just one Iris-Message." I had a plan.

Percy nodded but left the clearing, like the words seemed to wash over him. "I'll go talk to him," Jake said. "Lou, just try to find something to fix this. Quickly."

I nodded and looked at Annabeth. I forgot how to counter a healing spell, but other children of Hecate knew the solution. And the Hecate cabin had a whole library to track spells!

Time to IM one of my siblings, maybe Micah. He had a great memory. I got a drachma and walked towards the lake. I dropped the drachma in and declared, "Oh Iris, goddess of the Rainbow, please accept my offering. Show me Micah Harlow in Camp Half-Blood."

A gray, robotic face sprouted out of the mist. "King Zeus of the Gods has ordained that all Iris-Messages to Camp Half-Blood are banned due to security and privacy issues. Iris Messages will be blocked as long as Kind Zeus' order remains." The mist and the face disappeared and my drachma appeared in my hands.

What the fuck just happened? Iris Messages should never be blocked!

One of the fundamentals of free messaging and free speech! Zeus actually shut Iris Messages down. Iris Messages! But why? What was going on through his head?

Okay. Annabeth could still be saved.

I couldn't talk to Micah or anyone else from Camp Half-Blood. Who else? My mother, or... him. Should I? I swore on the Styx to never contact him unless it was an emergency.

This was an emergency! Annabeth was in a coma, and only he could help me. All due to me.

My promise to him was not as important as someone's life. I was going to ask for his help.

I dropped the drachma in the lake. "Oh Iris, goddess of the Rainbow, please accept my offering. Show me Alabaster Torrington."

Yeah, Alabaster Torrington.

My brother who got banished from CHB since he fought for the Titans. And, the most powerful mortal magician. He knew everything.

The mist from the IM showed Alabaster fighting off a Laistrygonian giant. He tricked it with an duplicate of himself that even I fell for. While the giant was busy fighting his duplicate, or his real self, Alabaster drove his gold sword through the giant's chest. Gold dust fell onto the ground, where even more golden dust laid.

Alabaster was so powerful, if he could beat a Laistrygonian giant that efficiently after killing other monsters. One of a kind.

"Lou, is this important?" Alabaster asked. "I told you to IM me only in emergencies! I don't want the gods to know where I am."

I grimaced. "Be quiet, Alabaster. Other demigods are near and they might listen. And this is an emergency."

His green eyes darkened. "Lou, who are you with? It better not be Percy Jackson."

For some reason, Alabaster hated Percy with all his passion, so I lied. Hopefully, he didn't know who Annabeth was to Percy. "No, I'm with Jake, a son of Hephaestus, and Annabeth, and daughter of Athena."

His face softened. I warned him of another Northern Giant coming near from his left. Alabaster cursed and chanted "αόρατος πέπλο!". An invisibility spell.

Did you know Alabaster had a magic notebook? Hecate gave him the notebook for his 16th birthday. Only the owner of the notebook can read them, and the notebook updates its contents anytime the owner chants spell. Any spell Alabaster casts, it's ingrained in the notebook. Did I mention it is indestructible and can never be lost?

The only downside was that the book couldn't store every spell the owner chants. So one could make this weird announcement where you gave away another spell of your choice, and the desired spell would be written down. You could still use the spell, but you have to memorize the lost spell.

"Ok, Lou, I have a limited time before the invisibility spell wears off. What do you want?"

"So, Annabeth got injured by some hellhounds. I applied the speed-healing spell on Annabeth, but it malfunctioned. She'll stay in a coma unless I find a counter-effect."

Alabaster sighed. "Okay. What did you do wrong?"

"Uh, you know the healing casting time is at most 16 minutes?" Nod. "Well, 10 minutes passed before I left to deal with a... fight."

Alabaster narrowed his eyes at me and groaned. "Lou Ellen, you never stop a spell casting for any reason, you know. Even for battle. Magic 101. Anyways, nobody actually ever stopped this basic spell like you described, so I am going to have to find out the solution myself. You will owe me one, Lou Ellen."

My cheeks burned in embarrassment. I was the worst. I made a mistake so hard to do that nobody did it.

Alabaster started his incantation to our mother, "O Hecate, goddess of magic and necromancy, the supreme magician, may you grace us with the solution to counter the mistake your daughter Lou Ellen Blackstone has made? In return, I will give up a spell from my spellbook."

Alabaster frowned before rapidly turning over pages in his spell book. He stopped on a page a quarter of the way down and laughed. "I will give up the spell κέρατο κεφαλής, Lady Hecate. Its only use is for a prank." Oh, the classic unicorn horn spell. The first prank spell any magician learns.

Alabaster started an incantation in rapid fire Greek that I couldn't make out for 10 seconds. The book lit up with white light and levitated above his hands. Was this normal? Alabaster was shocked! A purple beam straight from the sky struck a page of the spellbook. The white light disappeared and the book fell down on the ground, leaving one page open.

Alabaster shook his head and picked the book up. "That never happens when I ask for spells. Okay, let me see the solution." His eyebrows furrowed. Alabaster reread it, not telling me anything.

Alabaster ripped the page out shoved it in front of the camera. Wait, what? The page didn't have any spells or remedies to it. It looked like a set of instructions, but I couldn't get anything else. The mist was choppy. "What does it say, Alabaster? It isn't a spell."

"It looks like a prophecy. Let me see it again." Alabaster turned the page around, but the page shocked his hand. Was this abnormal as well?

"Are you okay, Alabaster?" He glared at the page. What was going on?

"I think so. This thing shocked me when I read it. I think only you can see the prophecy. You know how mom is."

Okay, so I need access to the page. Time for a teleportation spell. "Alabaster, are you going to give it to me? Through a teleportation spell?"

He laughed at my question and shook his head. "Lou, you botched up this spell. Redeem yourself by transporting the page to yourself. I am not going to fix your mistake.

I was a bit unsure. I botched up a healing spell, and it was more common for people to botch up teleportation spells. "Okay, fine. Where are you?"

"I'm in Calgary, Alberta. And do the spell quickly. I don't have much time."

Now, you might be thinking, Are you sure you are going to teleport the right thing? I could be bringing anything from Calgary to Cleveland. But you can only teleport things with a divine or magical power, and the page was the only magical source. Other than Alabaster and the rest of his spellbook.

I chanted the spell in Ancient Greek, bla bla bla.

Of course, I could just tell the spell to you, the reader, but fat chance. The spell is in Ancient Greek, which I am sure you don't know. Number two, complex spells like a teleportation spell are never to be heard, or in this case, seen by mortals. And if you aren't a mortal, well, IM me for the spell. I might give it to you.

Once I finished casting the spell, a torn piece of paper popped into my hand. Before I could actually read what was written down, something rustled behind me in the bushes. Jake and Percy!

I looked up at Alabaster apologetically. "Thanks for the paper. But the others coming back, Alabaster. And I think they shouldn't know about you. Bye!"

"Wait, I need to ask you something too! It's really important! Can-"

I slashed the Iris-Message, ending whatever Alabaster wanted me to hear. He could always IM me later.

Just in time! Jake and Percy stepped out of the bushes. Percy looked way better than last time. "Did you find a cure, or counter-effect?" Percy asked desperately.

"Yeah. My... source from the Iris-Message gave me this piece of paper. It should have instructions to heal Annabeth. Properly."

I gave the paper to Percy. Percy frowned and asked, "Is that even a spell? I know I don't use magic, but that doesn't look like a spell. Is it legible?"

Jake grabbed the paper from Percy, but he looked helpless too. Did Alabaster send me something useless?

Jake gave me the letter, which had clear instructions in English. Like Times New Roman, double spaced, 12 point-font. "Really? You can't read this? I can."

Both of them nodded, confirming my thoughts. "Only I can read it. He was right," I whispered.

"He? Who's he?" Jake asked.

Oh! I think I whisper too loudly. "Oh, that was my source," I answered way too quickly.

Jake eyed me suspiciously, but he let it go. "So, what does it say?" Percy asked.

"To find the treatment of the spell,

You must go to where Erato dwells.

Over the canvas find the sorcery.

To cure the Owl, follow the remedy."

Percy groaned. "Another fucking prophecy, of course. Can't the gods just give us simple instructions once in a while? Not everything has to be in riddles!"

Jake asked him, "Dude, are you okay?" Percy waved us both off, walking towards Thalia and Annabeth.

"It's actually not that hard to decipher," I said.

Jake looked back at me, surprised. "What does it mean, Lou?"

"We're supposed to go to where Erato is located. She's a muse, so she lives on Olympus, but I don't think we'll go back to New York. It's probably about a painting of her since it talks about a canvas. So we're going to a museum."

"Okay, but how will that get us the remedy for Annabeth? A painting isn't going to cure her."

"Over the canvas. If it was visible, it would be really obvious for mortals. But where would it be?"

"Maybe it's over the canvas, but under the paint? That fits."

"Yeah. I'll duplicate the painting so the mortals don't notice, we'll bring it here, and then wash off the paint."

"Sounds like a plan. But are you sure that you can wash off the paint? It's decades old, if not centuries. It will be really hard."

"We'll think about that when we get the painting. The longer we take, the harder it will be for the remedy to take effect. And we have a son of Poseidon for a reason. Let's tell Percy about this!"

I told Percy about our interpretations of the mini-prophecy, and he seemed to take it well. Well, he took it well for any person whose girlfriend was in a coma. "Nice! So, who should go on this quest?" he asked.

This was a hard one, because we still needed one demigod to guard Thalia and Annabeth. We couldn't have them die before I could cure them!

"I'm supposed to go on the quest. The prophecy was given to me, and we'll need magic for getting Erato's painting, wherever it is," I said. "But one of you has to stay here to guard Annabeth and Thalia. I'll leave that up to you."

I left the area as quickly as possible. The truth is, I hated watching confrontations between other people. They were just too messy and judgemental, and people held grudges. For a long time. This could be solved by Jake and Percy. No external influences. Just two children of the gods.

Ugh, my life was a mess. This whole great prophecy was a mess.

According to Nico and Chiron, we were supposed to meet Romans in the middle of the US? Why should we trust the Olympians, who harbored this secret for centuries? What other secrets do you have, Olympians!? I just want to stay at camp doing regular demigod stuff. Fuck the prophecy and the Olympians.

All I have to do is deal with it. I could just finish this quest, living, and then go back to camp unnoticed. Not that hard. Why did I even volunteer?

Percy cleared his throat, catching my attention. "We've decided that, um, I will stay here with Thalia and Annabeth. Jake will go with you."

Jake smiled at me. Don't tell Percy this, but I was hoping Jake would come with me! Percy was probably mad at me for messing everything up.

Percy's eyes watered, but he quickly wiped his tears away. "Guys, I'm fine. Just go get the painting and the remedy for Annabeth. Quickly. I'll guard Thalia and Annabeth."

I looked at Percy one last time and said, "If there's any problem, Iris-Message me. It shouldn't happen because you're near a lake, but anything's a possibility."

He nodded. "I know. Go to the painting. And you'll handle it. You guys have good chemistry."

My cheeks reddened. Didn't they say Percy was the oblivious one?

Jake and I left the clearing and the park in sight for the painting of Erato. Our mini-adventure had started! (That was sarcasm.)

But how could we know where the painting was? We couldn't use phones.

Here is the tenth Chapter of Greek meets Roman!

Ten chapters! A giant milestone! Thank you all for supporting me through the fanfic-writing of my life.

Summary: Nico explained his whole situation with the Romans to the Greek quest. Lou Ellen discovered her healing spell on Annabeth went wrong, making Annabeth comatose. Alabaster gave Lou a solution to her mistake during an IM: a mini quest chosen by Hecate. Lou and Jake must now find a painting of Erato!

Zeus blocked Iris Messages to and from Camp Jupiter and Camp Half-Blood camps because he thought the enemy would be spying the messages. Is Zeus his usual paranoid self, or is the enemy actually listening in? But since the questers are outside of the camps, they can IM each other.

Lou could be a doctor. I'm just saying. Lou is a doctor. If you're well versed in magical systems and how they interact with the depths of the human body, you could definitely become a doctor.

If Alabaster sounds like a dick, it's because he is. Canonically and in my fanfic. Lou tolerates his dickish attitude because she thinks that tough love is the best way to improve as a person and demigod. That's obviously false, especially since Alabaster was her closest sibling.

Love and support your family! Don't be like the gods!

Will Jake and Lou Ellen get the remedy to save Annabeth? What will happen on the two's mini quest? And where is the painting of Erato? How does Erato feel about all this? Will Percy protect Thalia and Annabeth well? If all goes well, will Annabeth even recover?

I do realize I am going very slowly with this story. I originally wanted this chapter to finish up Cleveland as last chapter did Reno, but that wasn't possible. Cleveland will finish in two chapters, I promise. Do you want to have 2-2.5 chapters for each city?

Have a great day and let's all Mystify!
