CHAPTER 24 - CROSSROADS
Light had just enough time to take a shower and drink a coffee. He needed both. He hoped it would wake him up a little, but the warm water had the opposite effect. He felt even more tired and his head was empty. He didn't even care that he practically begged his professor to meet him. Alone. In the middle of the night. Light simply didn't care. He just needed Lawliet close. He needed to feel his scent to feel safe. It didn't matter that he would have to dive into his crazy subconsciousness… as long as Lawliet was there with him.
When the time was up, he dressed to comfy sweatpants and a warm sweater and headed to the attic. He found Lawliet already there, he also changed out of his robes and was only in white t-shirt and blue jeans. He was leaning against the frame of the attic window and looking out.
When L heard Light opening a door, he turned around and eyed him from head to toes. When he saw Light was practically ready to bed, his primal instinct was to put the omega to sleep while rubbing their scent glands together. He bit his inner cheek. He was painfully aware that this kid was doing strange things to him. For some reason, the pull towards this boy was so strong that it was leaving him almost defenceless. Otherwise, he would never agree on meeting with a student this late at night.
"Already in a nightgown? If I knew we were spending a night together I would take prettier underwear." L said and tried to throw off Light with his bastard behavior.
Light heard what Lawliet said but he completely ignored it. He wasn't in a mood. He wanted to ask about so many things that he didn't even know where to start. But one thing, bothered him more than others:
"Why?"
That question surprised L. He wanted to get Light uncomfortable and throw him out of the comfort zone and instead Light managed to reverse the situation by one word. And he looked completely calm and serious about the question. L could either answer and see how far the boy would be willing to go or leave the topic. He should leave the topic. He should clear his throat and start talking about something else. He definitely couldn't say another flirty shit that appeared on his mind. Luckily, Light spoke again before L could react.
"Why was the tourney built around my wizarding problems?" Light asked with the whole sentence and smirked when he saw Lawliet's puzzled expression.
L tilted his head. It took him five more seconds to realize that Light actually never reacted on his bastard-flirting attempt but just ignored it and asked about something completely different. That was disturbing. But not as much as the fact that Light actually figured out the purpose of the tourney.
L tried to compose himself and smirked: "Don't flatter yourself, Yagami. You are not the only omega in the 7th year, you know." he said but he knew the reaction was too slow for Light to believe him.
A smile appeared on Light's lips when he saw Lawliet's reaction. It was a poor attempt at covering up. Light managed to surprise his professor enough to catch him unprepared and even if he didnt… the man's scent was still giving him away. There was a bit of a surprise, then resignation and then calming happiness. Light leaned against the other side of the window frame, while trying not to grin. They stayed in a comfortable silence for a few moments, looking into the night. Then Light spoke up again:
"Why are you doing this?"
"I promised to help you, didn't I?" L said and didn't make any more attempts to hide the truth from Light.
"Yes, but this was far beyond the line of your duties…"
L rolled his eyes and cut him off: "It worked, didn't it?"
Light looked at him and smiled: "It did."
"I am glad." L said and smiled back at him. They were staring at each other for a moment. Both of them painfully aware that the face of the other looks beautiful in the moonlight. They were standing only a meter from one another. It felt too far away for Light and too close for L. But also the other way around.
After a few moments it was L, who broke the eye contact and headed back to the attic.
"So… when you used Lumos Solem in the tourney, it was a moment when you got in sync, wasn't it?" L asked and started pacing the room.
Light nodded: "Yes."
"How did you manage?"
"It was actually thanks to Misa. She said something that reminded me of your lessons. I had nothing to lose so I…" Light cleared his throat: "I repeated to myself what my inner omega wants and what I want and somehow..."
"Somehow it merged into one." L finished.
"Yes…" Light nodded and took a step into the room. He saw Lawliet smirking at him, while he had both his hands hidden in his pockets.
"And then you were able to fry 30 magical creatures by Lumos Solem…" Lawliet repeated, like he was not able to believe it.
"Yes…"
There was a moment of silence when L was thinking about the situation. And also, if it's gonna make some damage if he tells Light what was on his mind. He never wanted to boost the boy's ego too much but…
Light isn't really as arrogant as he seems. Actually, he is pretty fragile… L thought and took a deep breath:
"Light, I am not sure if you are aware of this but… you have incredible magic power."
"Yes, I am working on myself for a long time and…" Light started but Lawliet cut him off:
"No, that's not what I mean. Both times you were trying to connect with your inner omega, the objects in the rooms started shaking. It was like a small eruption coming from inside of you. And I believe that… tonight you were able to let that fire out."
Light opened and closed his mouth: "Wha...What does it mean, professor?"
"That means that the power which comes from your omegan nature is much stronger than anything you were doing until now."
Light frowned and gave it a thought. It made a lot of sense to him. He was always a strong wizard but what he did tonight was far beyond all the magic he'd ever done. And if Lawliet noticed something like that during their sessions, it was probably true.
So my wizarding power really comes from my omegan nature? God, if I only knew sooner… Light thought and his mind immediately started wondering. He wondered just how much power was hidden inside him. He thought about all the good things he could do with such power. How many dark wizards he would send to Azkaban. And how inspirative it would be for other omegas who went through similar problems. Now that Light had Lawliet on his side, it didn't seem impossible. His dreams might actually come true. He really might become an Auror.
L watched as a smile slowly spreading across the boy's face and he raised an eyebrow: "Wipe that stupid smile of your face, Yagami. This is just the beginning. You still need to learn how to use this power and be constantly in sync."
Light's cheeks went pink, because it felt like Lawliet read his mind. He laughed nervously: "Haha… Sorry…I know… I am just… happy."
"I know. I am proud of you." L said and immediately regretted it. He complimented the boy practically all night and he somehow wasn't able to stop.
"Tha… thank you!" Light stuttered and was still surprised by the change in his professor. The man was really not a bad person. He was just… trying to look like one. Or maybe it was the alpha part of his personality and Light was also getting to know the other side of the man now.
L wanted to flee from there. He started to feel unsure around Light. It was like the boy kept him under some spell. He cleared his throat and headed towards the attic window again: "Alright so… if you know what your inner omega wants, you don't need me to try to connect with it anymore, right?"
Light opened and closed his mouth. He didn't think about it that far. Theoretically, yes. He knew his inner omega wanted a family and this classical boring omegan cliché stuff. But there was also something strange about that vision he had, when Lawliet took barriers in his mind down. Something that kept Light tight on a string. He wanted to see the whole vision…
"But you also said that the vision might help me reveal my powers…" Light said, remembering Lawliet's words.
"I thought you did that by yourself during the tourney…" Lawliet opposed. If Light got this far already, there was no point going through that vision.
There was a moment of silence and L realized that Light was actually trying to find reasons why to go through the process again. Which was weird, because it always ended bad. Then it finally came to him:
"There was something more in that vision." L stated and watched Light biting his lower lip.
"Yes, professor." The boy answered shyly.
"And you wanna see it again…"
"Yes, professor…" Light said and it was more or less true. He wanted to stay with Lawliet as long as possible and he also wanted to know where the vision would lead next. Even when it is uncomfortable for him.
The first time he was horrified by the fact that he was kissing his professor and had children with him. The second time he was shocked to find out that Lawliet changed to Mikami during the kiss. But Light never went through the whole vision. There was something his inner omega wanted to say so Light felt obligated to try again. Especially, when unleashing his inner omega led to amazing results until now.
L wasn't sure if it was a good idea. He understood Light's reasons but the boy was tired. And it was hard for him to endure even when he was in full strength.
"Are you sure you wanna do this tonight? You look very tired."
"I am sure." Light nodded and watched Lawliet shaking his head from side to side in disbelief.
"Do you always get what you want, Light?" L asked and moved to the centre of the room to conjure all the magical objects they needed.
"Yes, professor, I do." Light answered confidently and moved to sit down in the middle of a magical circle.
L watched him quietly while thinking: Then I am lucky you don't want me.
The vision started exactly like before. Green meadow. Three kids playing with Lawliet, their father. Light coming to them, Lawliet standing up from the kids kissing Light on the lips. Then a hand on Light's pregnant belly. The baby kicking. Arousal and slick wetting Light's hole in the vision and even in reality. But Light was now able to endure this. He knew it was just his imagination and in his imagination, they already did worse things than kissing.
Then, the man started adding more and more pressure into the kiss. It was getting uncomfortable and Light opened his eyes to see Lawliet was gone and it was now Mikami kissing him.
Light wanted to endure the whole vision, so he tried to play along, but then he felt a hand on his belly. Completely flat belly.
Where… where is the baby? He thought in panic and quickly pushed Mikami away. He put a hand on his stomach and saw that he was not pregnant anymore. Also the kids disappeared. The meadow was not green anymore. Everything around was grey now. Grass was dry and the trees looked like they got hit by lightning. Light was turning around, trying to understand where his family disappeared. Then he spotted two gravestones nearby and his heart started beating in his chest. He had a bad feeling about it. Without a second thought he ran towards those graves and stopped a few meters in front of them in shock. He was already able to see the engraving. Although he knew what he was going to find there, seeing it by his own eyes, was a completely different experience. The bigger gravestone had engraved only one latter:
"L"
Light took two more steps closer before the sadness took over him and he fell down on his knees. He was trying to understand what happened. A second ago they were together, happy and expecting the fourth baby. And now Light was here with Mikami and Lawliet was dead.
But where are the children? Light thought and looked at the second, smaller grave stone. But it didn't have any name. It was right next to Lawliet's, but it seemed empty. Then, Light heard steps behind him and knew it was Mikami. He turned around to face him but the alpha suddenly moved forward and slapped Light in the face. The punch was so strong that he fell down to the ground.
"You just can't forget him, can you?" Mikami shouted at him and kneeled down on his chest. It hurt. It hurt as hell and Light tried to fight the man off. But the alpha was raging:
"You little slut! You said you loved me! You said he was nothing to you!"
Light felt tears filling his eyes as Mikami punched him in the face and then forced a kiss on his bloody lips. Light was shocked, horrified and afraid. He couldn't move. He only stared at the face of a man who was desperately kissing him and biting on his lips. But when the alpha felt that Light's whole body went limp, he broke the kiss with a growl and stood up.
"That was the last straw, Light!" Mikami said coldly and took out his wand. Light knew what was going to happen. This was the end. But Mikami started laughing: "Do you really think I am going to make it that easy for you? That I will just kill you and send you straight to him? No, no, my love. You are going to stay with me…"
Light's eyes widened in horror. Mikami was going to torture him. He wanted to break him not to kill him. Light saw Mikami opening his mouth to say the spell and he instinctively closed his eyes and waited for the attack.
But nothing happened.
Light shivered in shock when he suddenly heard the children's laughter. He opened his eyes to find out the vision changed. Mikami was gone and he was now alone, laying on the floor of some living room. He stayed unmoving for a few moments. He was shocked from the previous events and he had to remind himself that it was not real. It was just a vision. But anyway, he took a few deep breaths before he stood up from the floor.
The living room was pretty and full of light. Windows were not big but there were many of them. Letting natural light inside and warming up the place. Light realized, by the design of the room and the furniture that he was inside of an old fashioned house. But it looked so familiar and cozy. Like a house of his dreams.
Light turned around when he heard children's laughter again. Someone running down the stairs. After a moment, three children ran into the room screaming and laughing. Those were the same three children he saw in his vision earlier but now they were… younger. The youngest boy still had a diaper.
Right after the kids a man figure appeared. But he only looked as a man from the waist down. From the waist up he was a bear!
Light instinctively took out his wand to protect the children but then he realized who he was looking at. It was Lawliet. Alive and spellbound. He was following the kids around the room and the kids were laughing and shouting. Light couldn't help but started laughing too. For a moment he completely forgot about the horror he came through minutes ago. He got completely lost in the vision and felt like he belonged there. Like it was reality.
"What have you done to your father?!" Light heard himself asking.
The kids stopped in their tracks, laughing and looking guilty at the same time. None of them said a thing so Light only waved his wand and broke the spell on his husband. Meanwhile, the kids ran away from the house and headed somewhere out.
When Lawliet looked like a human again, he placed a quick kiss on Light's lips: "Thank you, baby, these little demons are going to kill me one day."
"You wanted three of them." Light said even when his consciousness couldn't know something like that, he felt that it was true.
"Yes… but who would say they will be this powerful at such a young age."
Light brought his hands around Lawliet's neck and pulled him into his body: "Everyone who knows their parents."
Lawliet chuckled and kissed Light again. Lovingly and passionately. But this time, Light wasn't surprised or protesting. He loved how the man's lips were dancing against his own and how perfectly they fit together. He kissed back knowing that he would never have a chance to do it in real life. So he could as well enjoy these moments in his imagination.
Lawliet suddenly pulled away: "You know if we won't stop, I might accidentally put number four inside you."
Light leaned closer to the man and whispered into his ear: "Then do it."
Then he felt two strong arms around his waist and felt kisses on his neck. His head automatically fell back and he closed his eyes, completely losing himself in the feeling. It felt nice and Light wanted to feel more.
All of sudden Light felt teeth roughly biting on his neck and ripping his skin. He gasped in pain and opened his eyes. He was in a different place again. The ceiling he was staring at was made of stone and the place was cold and smelled of mold and ammonia. Light moved his head to see more and his eyes widened when he saw Lawliet a few meters in front of him. The man was hanging on a wall. His hands were chained and above his head and he was hanging there like a piece of meat. His body was covered in blood and his eyes watching Light with all the sadness in the world.
In that moment Light realized that the man making rough bite marks on his neck was Mikami.
He gasped and wanted to push Mikami away, but he didn't have control. It felt like he was a prisoner inside his own body. He heard Mikami saying:
"What is it, Light? Want to finish him off already?"
Light wanted to scream. He wanted to punch Mikami and run to get Lawliet down from that wall, but he couldn't do anything, he only heard himself saying: "It's about time. He stinks."
What? What? Light was screaming inside and he felt his whole being shivering: No… No, I don't want him to die!
Light felt that Mikami reached for Light's wand and put it into his hand: "Then go on, he is all yours…" the alpha said and placed a quick kiss on Light's neck before he stepped away.
Light aimed the wand at his professor. At least his body did. Light's consciousness was screaming to stop. But he also felt all the sharp pain and hate, this imaginary Light felt. Whatever was driving Light in his vision was an incredibly strong and painful experience. Light's consciousness and his vision self were staring at Lawliet and saw that the man was smiling.
"It's alright, Light. Just do it." The bloodied man said with a weak voice.
"Shut up!" Mikami screamed at Lawliet and stepped to Light again. He put his arms around his waist from the back.
"Do it, Light. You said he doesn't mean anything to you." He whispered into his ear and Light realized that he heard fear in his voice.
"Exactly, he is nothing to me…" Light heard himself saying and opened his mouth to say the spell: "Avada…"
Everything in Light screamed and was silent at the same time. He felt like he was about to explode. While the spell was leaving his mouth he saw Lawliet smiling at him and saying:
"I love you."
"Kedavra." Light said and a beam of red Light flew from his wand.
In a second it was over. Lawliet was gone. His big dark eyes were still wide open but the life inside them was gone. And Light knew part of him died too. He felt tears filling his eyes and he instinctively closed them.
Then, it felt like the dark Light that controlled his body disappeared because Light fell to the ground. His eyes were shut tight and tears were falling down from them. There was sharp pain, going through his whole being. It felt like someone ripped the heart from his rib cage and left only an empty body. Light had no idea how long he was sobbing before he realized the vision changed again. There was no longer Mikami and no longer Lawliet's dead body.
Light found himself on a crossroad.
What? He thought and looked around. There was nothing else. Just an empty space and him, sitting on a road which led from nowhere and splitted into two directions right in front of him. Then Light started hearing voices. There was children's laughter. There was a hysterical scream in which Light recognized his own voice. There were moans and sounds of pleasure. There was Lawliet's voice, teasing him about something. There was Mikami's voice, yelling something. It was all a big mingle of sounds which were all coming from those two different directions. But it was not clear what was coming from where.
All those sounds were getting louder and louder. Light felt his heart rate increasing and his instinct was screaming to run. But he couldn't move. In a moment it felt like someone put a speaker with all those sounds right in front of him. Light caught his ears to shield himself and crouched down on the road.
Once he closed his eyes there was silence. Then… Light heard his own voice, coming from deep inside his mind, saying:
"The decision is yours to make."
Okay, I realize, that this might have been a bit shocking. And I would like to know what you think of Light's vision. Do you think you can decipher it? Why do you think Light saw what he saw? What does it mean? And no, it's not as easy as it seems.
I am looking forward to read your ideas!
Love, J.
