"This is Berk. A safe place for us Berkians and our dragons. Most dragons we rescue from dragon hunters settle on other sides of the island away from the village, while a few others kind of decided to stay, but not too close" Hiccup narrated.
They arrived and landed down in Berk. The other dragon riders went off to do their own things while Hiccup and Astrid went to the Forge.
"Hey there, chief. How was the mission" Gobber asked him.
"Crazy Gobber, just plain crazy" he replied.
"What did Ruffnut and Tuffnut do this time" Gobber asked.
"No, surprisingly it's not them this time. Something else entirely happened" Astrid replied.
"Oh yeah, what happened" Eret asked them.
"We got ourselves a rouge dragon rider" Hiccup replied.
"Well, that's not something you see everyday" said Gobber.
"Yeah, but the craziest part was the dragon he was riding" said Astrid.
"Really, what kind of dragon does your rouge dragon rider have" Eret asked him.
"The Mutantlator" he replied.
Both Eret and Gobber froze on the spot.
"Yeah, believe it or not, that legend is actually true. We all saw it and heard it, Snotlout even got a close look at it" said Hiccup.
"It's true. All of it" said Astrid.
"The Mutantlator? I thought that dragon was the stuff of legends" said Gobber.
"I've heard the legend when I worked for Drago, but I never thought that it would be real" said Eret.
"Oh, it's real alright. It took out 3 ships like nothing" said Astrid.
"Well, it sounds to me like whoever your mystery rider is, him and his legend of a dragon are on our side" said Gobber.
"We can't really be sure, Gobber. Not until we find them" said Hiccup.
That's when Fishlegs arrived with Meatlug.
"Hiccup! The Dragon Eye is ready" he said.
"Great, let's get to it then" said Hiccup.
Before Hiccup could leave, Eret put his hand on his shoulder.
"What exactly do you think the Dragon Eye will tell you about a dragon no one knows nothing about" he asked him.
"We have to try. If there's one place that might have anything on it, it's there " he replied.
Him and his friend go inside the great hall and began looking for information.
"OK, where do we start first" Astrid asked.
"I mean, if it'll be any class, mystery class" Tuffnut replied.
"Wow, good thinking Tuffnut" said Hiccup.
They started looking through the possible classes, but after almost an hour of searching found nothing.
"That's it! That's every combination I could think of" said Fishlegs.
"Come on, there's got to be something that works" said Hiccup.
"What works? We've tried every combination with every class, Hiccup" said Fishlegs.
He put the Dragon Eye down in front of Meatlug's lava spew and a small part of something began to show.
"What the? Bud" said Hiccup.
He picked up the Dragon Eye and Toothless shined his plasma right through it. It showed another part of the puzzle. Fishlegs and Hiccup glanced at each other before looking back at the dragon eye.
"Go get the others and their dragons, we might have finally just stumbled onto something" said Hiccup.
After a minute, the other riders came back with their dragons. The other dragons shined their fires through the Dragon Eye and it finally showed the Legendary Mutantlator, exactly how Snotlout described it.
"Woah" Hiccup uttered.
"Incredible" said Fishlegs.
"Can you examine any of this, Fishlegs" Hiccup asked him.
"Yeah, hold on" he replied.
He got closer and began to translate the words.
"It says here that the Mutantlator is incredibly fast, incredibly agile and very, very deadly" he said.
The others glanced at each other, concerned.
"It says here that it's immune to Dragon Root, among other things dragons experience" he said.
"Immune to Dragon Root? That sounds…handy" said Snotlout.
"Can you tell us what it eats? If we figure out what it eats, we can find out where it eats" said Astrid.
"It says here that it eats all kinds of food and fish but prefers to eat…" he stopped talking and gasped.
"Eels" he said.
The others glanced at each other and realized where the Mutantlator and their rouge rider are.
"So, Eel Island" said Valka.
Toothless and Cloudjumper looked worried while the other dragons quickly left. Hiccup just sighed.
"My mom and I will go to Eel Island tomorrow. The rest of you will stay here" he said.
"Hiccup, are you sure about that" Astrid asked him.
"Yes, I'm sure" he replied.
The next day, Hiccup and Valka geared up and began their journey to Eel Island.
Meanwhile, on a dragon hunter ship that was behind an armada.
"So, another outpost has been attacked" Maeve asked.
"Yes, Matron" said a dragon hunter.
"I take it the Mutantlator and its rider have struck again" she asked.
"Yes, Matron. Along with several more dragon riders" the dragon hunter replied.
That got her attention.
"Several more" she asked him.
"Yes, Matron. One of them had a Night Fury" the dragon hunter replied.
Maeve raised an eyebrow while her generals, Bjarke, Fuld and Askari, were in shock.
"And he said that he hunted them all down. Clearly he missed one" she said.
"What now, Maeve" Askari asked her.
"We return to base to stock up on supplies" she ordered.
Every dragon hunter on board got to work and set course for their base.
"We don't really need supplies. Do we, Matron Maeve" Fuld asked her.
"Of course we do, Fuld. I also need to check a few other things" she replied.
Meanwhile Hiccup and Valka finally made it to Eel Island.
"Alright, we're here. What should we be on the lookout for" Valka asked.
"Smoke from a campfire. If our mystery rider and his Mutantlator are on this Island, they'll probably have a camp somewhere" he replied.
Valka nodded. They flew around for a while before Hiccup spotted smoke from a campfire in the distance.
"There! Smoke from a campfire" he said.
They quickly flew over there to investigate. They landed and discovered not only a campsite, but a cave that was turned into a makeshift home. Inside was a bed, a bench with notes and a map on it and a large stone slab where something big had been sleeping on.
"Woah, I'll say this. Our rouge rider and his Mutantlator were certainly busy" said Hiccup.
"I'll say" said Valka.
As they examined the inside of the cave, they heard a dragon call from outside. It sounded like a Night Fury call mixed in with a Singetail roar. They quickly rushed outside and began looking around.
"I've been around dragons for almost 20 years and I have never heard a dragon call like that before" said Valka.
"Me neither, mom" said Hiccup.
They heard it again and this time, they looked up. Right there was the legendary Mutantlator, on fire like a Monstrous Nightmare as it roared and flew by.
"I don't believe it" said Hiccup.
"Me neither" said Valka.
"Come on, let's get after it" said Hiccup.
They got on their dragons and quickly flew after it. By the time they caught up to the Mutantlator, it was no longer on fire.
"Look at it…it's massive" said Hiccup.
"Amazing" Valka uttered.
"There's no sign of the rider though, strange" said Hiccup.
Toothless ordered it to stand down and land. That's when it glared back at them and its own fins began to glow red, much to their shock.
"Woah, looks like you aren't the only alpha, bud" said Hiccup.
The Mutantlator then picked up speed and took off.
"Go! We'll catch up" said Valka.
"OK, bud. Let's get after it" said Hiccup.
Toothless nodded and quickly sped up after it. Hiccup was shocked at just how fast it was. Even at his top speed, Toothless couldn't catch up to it. The Mutantlator quickly lifted it's 2 upper wings up and released a cloud of Smothering Smokebreath smoke at them.
"Smothering Smokebreath smoke" Hiccup uttered.
When they finally got out of the smoke, the Mutantlator was gone.
"Where did it go" Hiccup asked.
He and Toothless looked around, but couldn't see it anywhere. A few seconds later, Valka and Cloudjumper caught up with them.
"What happened" Valka asked him.
"It somehow shook us. It…it sprayed us with Smothering Smokebreath smoke and the next thing you know, it was gone" he replied.
"Curious, it didn't have its rider with it and it didn't have any intentions to harm us" said Valka.
Hiccup thought about it all and quickly realized what was going on.
"It was a diversion! To keep us away from their camp" said Hiccup.
"Come on, then" said Valka.
They quickly sped back to the camp site. There was their mystery dragon rider, looking through notes and maps when the Mutantlator came back.
"Did you manage to lose them" he asked his dragon.
Lightning smiled and nodded.
"Good work, pal. Let's get our stuff and let's get moving" he said.
Lightning then heard something coming. He turned around and saw a Night Fury and a Stormcutter approaching. His growled as his spines went up and he set himself on fire, his rider noticing it. Toothless and Cloudjumper landed several feet away from him, cautious as he was now visibly angry.
