Time jump: 1 month
Alex groaned at the peeking light shining through the blinds. Pushing her face under the covers, she growled at not being able to fall asleep once more. Not to mention she really needed to pee. Climbing out of bed, she stumbled into the bathroom and sleepily sat on the toilet. Glancing at the clock on the wall, she let out another loud groan. Only she would wake up five minutes before her alarm. Reaching into the shower, she turned the water on.
"It's too early, come back to bed!" Nathan yelled from within the bedroom.
Alex growled. "I unlike you have a job!"
"You mean the job that doesn't pay you?"
She could just imagine the smirk on his lips. "Shut up." Striping down and jumping into the shower she willed the sleep to go away.
Nathan turned his head over at hearing her walk out of the bathroom. His eyes fell instantly on her belly. Jumping out of bed, he walked over to her. Wrapping his arms around her stomach, he grinned. "We need to finish the nursery this week. You only have a month left."
"I know." She whispered. "Would have finished last week, if someone hadn't broken the crib."
"I had to test it out." Nathan groaned. "If it can't hold me, there is no way I letting them sleep in it."
Alex rolled her eyes. "Ask Eyal to help you. Then help him. Ziva is about to have a meltdown if he doesn't hurry up."
"How is she?"
Alex shrugged. "I haven't spoken to her in a few days. She and Eyal went back to his turf. Have her meet his pack officially."
"She's what a few weeks out?" Nathan asked.
Alex nodded. "Yes. Which means this should be her last week at work before maternity leave."
Nathan suddenly reached for his phone, dialing a number. "Ty."
'Yeah?'
"Listen, I need a few pack mates to help Eyal and his pack this month. Ziva should be giving birth in a couple of weeks. With Elijah still on the loose, I don't want any surprises."
'Understood. I'll send a few over right now.'
"Thank you."
Alex frowned. "You think he'd try something?"
"Better safe than sorry," Nathan grumbled. "We never thought he'd attack in daylight with humans."
"True." Drying herself off, she leaned over and gave him a quick kiss. "I have to go."
"Be careful."
"Always!" Dropping the towel just before walking out the front door, she leaped over the porch and landed on four paws. Running towards the woods, she hurried to Ziva's place.
After the incident at her father's cabin and her talk with Gibbs, Alex had to speak with the team. To say she got mixed emotions from each one was an understatement. Ziva was hurt by the fact that I didn't trust her enough to say anything, but she understood. It helped Eyal spoke to her. Tim was totally fine with it, he stated a few times that he had suspected something was at play. But Tony. Tony just stayed quiet. He refused to speak to her after that. The times we went out on cases, he made it an effort to avoid her. It hurt of course, but she knew to give him space.
Alex had moved in with Nathan after that. Well more like Nathan and she had moved into her father's cabin. She believed they all did. Eyal and Ziva spent more time with them than they did at their place. Nathan's pack had mixed in with Clay's pack so much that their scent was now the same. Ever since Clay being alive had spread, Matt and Derek had returned home. For some reason, Matt refused to be anywhere near their dad. And Derek, well Derek looked downright scared when he found out about Clay. She wasn't too sure what that was about, but she was not about to meddle in it.
Reaching the edge of the woods she poked her head out of the bushes. It was still early in the morning and happily, there weren't too many people walking around. Stepping out onto the sidewalk, she trotted down the street. Stopping at the corner, Alex waited for the green light to cross. Ziva's apartment was a few blocks down at this point.
The doorman no longer questioned her arrival, he simply opened the door for the wolf. The security guard would just roll his eyes and call the elevator for her. Alex made a mental note in tipping him next time. Getting off the third floor, she took a left and walked over to Ziva's apartment door. Scratching at the bottom, she waited for her to respond.
"You're here early." Ziva mumbled, opening the door for her. "Coffee?"
'Yes please!' Alex yelped.
"I'll take that as a yes." Grabbing the pot and filling it with water, she glanced down at the wolf. "You got fat."
Alex growled. 'Look who's talking.' Ziva had a bit of a baby bump, but nowhere the size it should be. The last ultrasound she had, had the doctor stumped. In their eyes and knowledge, she was 8 months and two weeks. 'Eyal here?'
"I have no idea what you are saying." Ziva yawned. "My guess you're looking for Eyal. He's left early, something about Nathan and Hotch."
Alex huffed, jumping onto the sofa. Like Ziva, her stomach wasn't showing too much. It was evident she was pregnant, but that was about it. Spotting the robe laid out on the smaller couch, she grabbed it and trotted into the bathroom. Shifting back, she slipped into the robe and walked back out.
"How are you feeling?"
Ziva jumped at the sudden voice. "Damnit, Alex!" She placed the whistling pot on the counter, glaring at the laughing she-wolf. "A little warning next time."
"Aren't you a trained spy thingy?" Reaching for the mugs on the upper counter, she pulled out the milk and sugar.
Ziva handed her the creamer. "I am not a spy."
"Right because a spy would openly admit to being a spy."
"It's too early for your riddles." Ziva groaned. "And to answer your question, I feel fine. They haven't been kicking as much as last week."
"Lucky you." Alex chuckled. "These two have decided their mother's bladder is now a soccer ball."
Ziva cringed, knowing just how bad that felt. "Eyal keeps hoping for girls."
"Nathan wants one of each." Alex replied. "I honestly want boys."
"Speaking of boys, you have any idea as to why Eyal doesn't want any?" Ziva asked. "I always thought boys were what they wanted the most."
Alex chuckled. "Well, it varies for the wolf and pack. Many are still traditional and prefer a male to take over the pack. Others don't care if their firstborn is a female or male. But when two males are born such as twins, one must be picked as the next alpha."
"Is that a good thing or a bad thing?" Ziva asked.
"Depends. Many times it's fine. The father will always pick the one that was born first out of the two. But there are times the younger sibling will not accept it and challenge the other for the tile." Alex explained.
"What's the difference with it being the females then?" Ziva frowned. "One would be picked to take over the pack right?"
"Yes and no." Alex hated all the turns and twists of her kind. "There are a few reasons a female wouldn't take over her pack, but the main one being her mate. The moment you mate, you take the title of your mate. For example, I was a lead beta. Mating with Nathan has made me an alpha female of the pack. His pack. You being a human, we would have marked you as an omega. But mating Eyal has made you into the alpha female."
"What if there is no heir for your pack?" Ziva asked.
"Then the packs are united, but that happens rarely. Usually, another male wolf will rise to the occasion and take control of the pack." Alex reached for a banana in the fruit basket. "But I won't be worried about any of that."
"How come?" She reached for half of the fruit, ignoring the growl she got.
Alex tossed the peel into the trash, finishing her coffee. "Nathan already has a son. Aaron is the firstborn, there for the next in line to lead the pack. So regardless of my pups being females or males, they would have to challenge Aaron for the title of alpha."
"I will never learn all of this." Ziva groaned lo
Alex chuckled. "I was born into this and I still haven't learned half of it."
"I need a shower." Ziva grumbled, stumbling back into her room.
While Ziva showered and got ready for work, Alex decided to make them some PBJ sandwiches. Knowing the ex-Mossad, coffee was the only thing she would be inhaling.
Ziva walked out fully awake and ready to head out. Grabbing the sandwich and her bag, she glanced over at Alex. "You walking out like that?"
Alex shook her head. "No, let me finish this real quick." Taking three full bites of the sandwich, she chugged the cup of coffee and shifted back. 'Let's go.'
Ziva frowned. "Why is it that I can understand Eyal when he's changed, but not you or the others?"
Alex rolled her eyes. 'You had to ask after I shifted back?'
Ziva chuckled, holding the door open for her. "Should have asked before you changed."
'You think?'
Trotting into the elevator, they headed down to the lobby. Waving goodbye to the doorman, they jumped into the car and drove off towards the office. It felt both weird and free with the team knowing about her. Granted it was not the way she had wanted them to find out, but what was done, was done.
Alex made her way towards the bullpen, frowning at not seeing anyone. 'We the first?'
"Where is everyone?" Ziva mumbled.
"Agent Dav-id, you are late." Leon stood over the catwalk. "The meeting has already started."
Alex frowned. 'Meeting?'
Placing her bag in her chair, Ziva rushed to follow the director. Alex trotted behind them into a room. They had three rows of small desks, each with three across. Some agents sat in chairs against the wall, looking bored out of their minds. Ziva moved to take a seat behind Tony, while Alex sat beside Gibbs. The man stood by the window his cup of coffee in his hand.
"Glad you could join us." A dark-skinned lady stood in the front of the group. "You must be Agent Ziva Dav-id correct?"
"Correct."
She scanned her clipboard. "And where is agent Lu-Luna?"
Everyone's eyes landed on the wolf splayed across Gibbs's feet. Having heard her cop name, she raised her head with a slight growl. 'Present!'
"That's agent Luna?" The lady asked.
Everyone nodded.
"It's a dog."
'I take offense to that!'
Tim chuckled. "She's a wolf."
"Right." Sidestepping away from me, she ordered one of the agents to shut the lights off. "We will be starting the meeting with a presentation explaining the many ways one can commit Sexual Harassment."
Luna was knocked out way before the video ever played. She could just tell how serious this woman took her job, which meant that the presentation was not going to be a short one.
"Lights, please."
A jolt from Gibbs's shoe woke her up in an instant. Glancing around, she groaned at seeing the meeting was still going. 'Damn, just how much time does she need?' Glancing up at Gibbs, she nudged his leg. 'I need coffee.'
"No."
'Seriously?' Nipping at his shin, she turned to McGee. Without having to be asked, he removed the lid from his cup and placed it on the floor for her. 'And I didn't even have to train him.'
"From the video presentation, it's clear that sexual harassment can take many forms in the workplace." Looking up she chuckled at seeing that the only one that was actually paying attention, was Palmer. Everyone else seemed half asleep. Tony was laying back with his head on Ziva's desk. McGee was staring off into space, while his hand ran through her fur. Ziva was reading some book she had. "A coworker with elevator eyes looking you up and down, a coworker shows you a cartoon or photo of sexual nature."
"If you're lucky," Tony whispered.
"A coworker's hand accidentally brushed up against your body." She stated, adding quotes with her fingers.
McGee was quick to remove his hand from her neck. "Sorry."
'Believe me, if I found that offensive you wouldn't have a hand anymore.'
She caught onto Ziva's comeback. "If you're really lucky."
"Physical contact can be divided into three categories." She clicked her remote, bringing up a picture of a traffic light. "Greenlight includes normal behavior." Gibbs and Luna shared a look, slowly turning back towards the front. "Yellow light includes borderline behaviors such as hugging someone or..." Abby shot up from her seat with her hand raised. "Yep?"
"What's wrong with hugging people? I hug people all the time."
"You may see it as friendly, but your coworkers may find it offensive."
Luna scoffed. 'This woman didn't know who she was talking to.'
"You guys get offended when I hug you?"
Everyone was quick to reassure her that they weren't. Then there was Luna. Screaming at the top of her lungs a loud yes.
"I am hugging you all in my mind right now." She hugged herself, closing her eyes in pure delight.
'I better not be in that scenario!'
"D.O.D policy is very clear about this point, miss." Her tone had just gone up a notch. "You must first ask permission before making physical contact with a coworker."
Abby had a look of pure disbelief. "Like, every time?"
She nodded. "Yes."
"But that's dumb!" Abby argued.
Suddenly her eyes landed on the wolf. "Let's use Agent Luna for example. She is considered a coworker, correct?" Abby nodded. "Do you hug her or pet her whenever you like? Or do you watch her see if she's okay to touch?"
"I-I don't hug her." Abby replied. "But she doesn't mind if I do."
'Don't even try it.' Alex growled.
Gibbs gave her a nudge with his shoe once more, gesturing to walk to her. "Go."
Shaking herself, she sat down. 'I am not a hugger. Besides she's never hugged me and I am not about to let her start now. Did you forget the way she treated McGee after he shot that mutt! Or the other times she belittled him!' Feeling the nudge again, she snapped at his shoe in a warning. 'Don't think you still have the same control you did before.'
"Please, let's move this on." Leon jumped in. He had spotted the snap of teeth. The last thing he needed was for this meeting to turn into a presentation about animals in the workplace. "Luna may be a member of the team, but she is only bonded to certain members. Place her in an uncomfortable position and someone will end up hurt."
Thankfully she got the hint and continued with her presentation. "Finally, there's red-light behavior, such as deliberate, unwelcome touching." Like Abby did before him, Tony shot up from his seat making a weird noise. By the look on Ziva's face, she appeared to have been the cause of his reaction. "Another question?"
"Yeah, what if you slap someone in the back of the head like this?" He slapped McGee, who in return cupped checked him causing Tony to nearly bend over. "Wo-would that be considered inappropriate behavior?"
"Absolutely. Are you saying that this actually happened?" Now she was business.
They all turned from Tony to Gibbs, waiting for the agent's next move. Luckily, he chose to live another day. "No, I was just wondering that's all."
Luna having had enough decided sleeping in the bullpen was a much better idea. Carrying two growing pups was wearying her out quicker than usual. The packs had most of it all worked out really. Nathan and she had already picked out the sub mom or in other words, the pack nanny. Every pack usually had four, two males and two females. Depending on how large the pack was. They were the ones to help raise and watch over the pups. Nathan had decided to use the same two wolves that helped raise Aaron. Alex had no issues with it, but she did warn him that any decision for or about them, had to go through her first.
"Luna!" Gibbs rushed down the stairs, the others following him as well.
'Meeting over?'
"Come on, let's go." He grabbed her vest and leash, making his way to the elevator. "We got a body."
Arriving at the scene they all scattered. Tony, Ziva, and McGee gathered the equipment. Gibbs stopped her from jumping out of the car. Pulling the vest from the trunk, he secured it around her. She growled at the leash being attached.
"It's a short leash." He mumbled. "It is attached to the vest only. No one will be holding it and it won't dangle on the ground. New rule."
'I hate this.'
Running his hand over her head and around the neck, he chuckled. "Let's go."
While Gibbs spoke with palmer, Alex trotted around. She circled the large SUV parked in the building. Jumping into the passenger seat, she sniffed around. Unfortunately, the only scent she caught was that of their victim. She did find a creepy-looking robot on the driver's side.
"What kind of vehicle is this?" Gibbs appeared just beside her, flashing his light into the SUV.
'One out to kill us.'
Tim decided this was his moment. "It is a second-generation fully autonomous AI-operated vehicle, boss."
'And cue the headache.'
"Well, yeah. Yeah, I can see that, McGee." Gibbs attempted to play it cool, although the man had no clue what was just said. "I mean, other than the obvious."
Ziva jumped in, clearly not falling for it. "Wait, you actually understood that? You know what it does then?"
He nodded his head with such certainty. "Yeah, your basic second-generation AI...autonomous..stuff." In the end, he ratted himself out. "Where the hell does the driver sit?"
Ziva fought not to laugh, keeping her head down. "That's the point. There isn't one. It drives itself."
"Boss, 'AI' stands for artificial intelligence." McGee explained. "It's a robot."
Alex would have been laughing in his face, had she not been in the form she was. 'Should have just stayed quiet.'
His eyes landed on her, narrowing them. "Shut it."
