"What the fuck."
"Yeah." Eyal chuckled.
"Wait, why are you so cool about this?" I asked. "The jealousy would still be there."
Eyal shrugged. "I don't get bothered for a few reasons. That is just harmless flirting. Ned knew who she was since the moment he worked with her. He is also aware of who she's mated to and what we are expecting. He would never try anything with her. Besides I trust Ziva." He smiled softly. "I also know that should anything ever happen to me; she will have someone that will love her just if not more than I."
"She doesn't know?"
"No, and I want to keep it that way." Eyal gave me a pointed look. "There is no need for her to know, at least not now."
"Why the hell can we not just be a normal pack."
Eyal laughed. "For many, many reasons."
Time jump: Few days a later
For the next Couple of the days we were focused on the protection of the team. Ned had kept his promise of sharing a few of his packmates to cover the team. They weren't too happy about it, but they held their tongues.
Hotch had temporarily relocated himself into Clay's house. His mate was handling all pack issues for the time being. He had been asked by Eyal to stay behind and help watch the packs. He didn't seem to mind, not to mention the man had months of vacation time racked up. He was practically forced out of the Building. Now he was torturing the poor wolves with his team leader attitude. That man needed a hobby.
Clay and Ned had been busy away from the compound. They had taken a few wolves with them, in hopes of finding any lead to Elijah and his pack.
I still didn't believe Matt had anything to do with the death of Elijah's family. I didn't see my brother willingly hurting a woman and child. For what purpose? Matt knows the damage losing a mate causes someone. To purposely do that with no cause, was not like him. I need to get ahold of him before Ned and his pack did.
The ringing of the phone echoed through the house. Running out of the shower, I jumped over the bed, snatching the phone from the nightstand.
"Hello?" I quickly sat up at hearing a frantic Ziva on the other line. "Ziva? Wh-what are you-I can't hear you! What's wrong?!" She kept going on something about Eyal? "Where are you?" After finally being able to get her to calm down, she blurted out her location. "Do not move! You hear me, do not move!" Keeping the phone on, I quickly got dressed and bolted out of the house.
Jumping over the porch, I landed on all four paws. A few of the pack-mates spotted me, taking action and following me without question. I didn't know what was wrong with Ziva, but I had a feeling this wasn't going to end well.
A few moments before: Third POV
Ziva had just parked her car on the street across from her apartment building. As she crossed the street and looked straight ahead, she frowned at seeing Tony's car parked a few feet in front of her. Glancing up at the building to the window of her apartment, she frowned at seeing no sign of light or movement. She knew Eyal should have arrived moments before she did.
Just as she pulled the building door open, the sound of a shot fired stopped her. It hadn't come from inside the building. Ordering the doorman inside and telling him to call 911, she unholstered her off-duty weapon and took off towards the alley beside the apartments. She could already hear the sirens coming toward her. As she turned the corner, the whole world around her froze. The sound of sirens disappeared along with every other noise around her. Her eyes stared at the fallen man between her and another shadow. Without thinking straight, she broke from her trance and rushed to the fallen man.
"Eyal?!" Kneeling beside him, she fumbled with getting her phone out of her back pocket. "Eyal?" Calling Alex in a frantic speech, she managed to tell her where she was. "I'm here. Eyal, I need you to stay with me. Please." Shrugging her jacket off, she used it to place pressure on the wound. Looking up from her dying partner, she glared at the shooter. "How many times was he shot?"
"Zi-"
"How many?!"
"Three."
"The-" She breathed out a gasp. "Call Gibbs. Right now." Seeing no movement from him, she snapped. "Now!" Focusing her attention back on Eyal, she was losing it. Putting pressure on one would be leaving the other two open. She couldn't stop the bleeding no matter how much she tried. "I need you to fight this. Are you listening to me? I need you to keep fighting. Help is almost here."
Eyal watched her. His chest was on fire. His lungs warned him of the blood filling them up. He couldn't move no matter how much he tried. But just hearing her voice was putting him at ease. Hearing her was hope he would be okay. Seeing the tears rolling down her face, pinched at his chest. She shouldn't have to worry about him. Should never spill her tears for him. Forcing himself to raise his hand, he growled at not being able to do so. 'I'm sorry Neshema.' Turning his head to the side, he picked up on a thumping sound. 'Alex.'
'Eyal?'
'Hold the pack back. Don't let them come here.'
'What's going on?'
'Please. Don't let them see.'
There was a pause. 'As you wish.'
'Thank you.'
Ziva heard her before seeing her. Just as the wolf appeared beside her, the ambulance pulled up.
A female paramedic rushed towards the fallen agent, placing a hand on Ziva's shoulder. "Ma'am please stand aside."
Alex grabbed her sleeve and tugged her away from Eyal. 'Let them work.'
"Do you know what happened?" A male paramedic appeared behind us, carrying a bag and stretcher. "What's his name?"
Alex noticed Ziva was still stuck in a trance. Nipping at her arm, she got a jump. 'Come on, snap out of it!'
"E-Eyal Lavine." Ziva spoke. "He's 38. 6'3 and 130. He has three GSW to the chest. I was unable to see if the bullets went through."
"Copy that." The guy replied. "Let's get him on the gurney and out of here. He's losing too much blood."
Just as quickly as they had arrived, they left with Eyal. Ziva had jumped into the ambulance as well. Alex was still trying to piece the situation together. PD had arrived just as Eyal had been taken, along with another set of paramedics. It appeared Tony had a bite mark on his arm. Taking a whiff of Tony, Alex was dumbfounded. He reeked of gunpowder and Eyal.
Now she understood why Eyal wanted the pack to stay away. The second they caught a whiff of him, they would have killed him.
Taking off towards the waiting wolves, she ordered them back to the compound. 'Grab the rest of the Alphas. Leave the packs to watch the place. Shift back, bring me a set of clothes and bring the cars as well.' Once they left, she made her way to the hospital.
They had enough going on with Elijah, her brother, and Derek. The last thing they needed was to stop the packs from killing Tony.
Time jump:
By the time Gibbs and the others arrived, they were surprised at the number of people in the waiting room. All eyes on them. Some glaring, others openly snarling.
Ned growled lowly at them. "Knock it off. Staring a fight here will do no one any good."
"That's the bastard's alpha." A young pup from Eyal's pack snapped.
Ned glanced over at Gibbs a disgruntled look on his face. "That may be so, but he wasn't the one who shot Eyal."
"What does it matter!" Another yelled. "One human is worth the same as the other. You won't let us touch the bastard that did it, so what do you care if we make his alpha pay!"
"Enough!" Everyone jumped at the loud thud. Ned had grabbed the wolf, slamming him against the wall with his hand around its throat. "Let me remind you of a few things. One, that human happens to be a packmate of your alpha female. A father of some sort. Two, he is the mate of another alpha female. Three, you will not shed any human blood without my authorization. Four, you do not punish anyone for the crimes of another man. And finally..." He tightened his hand around the young wolf's throat, nearly crushing his windpipe. "If you ever speak to me in such a way again, I will rip your tongue out. Understood?"
"Y-yes, sir."
Letting the man fall to the ground, he simply stepped over him. "That goes for the rest of you."
Alex eased back into her chair. She had been ready to jump in between Gibbs and the pack before Ned intervened. "I'm starting to like him."
Nathan chuckled. "Don't let all that fool you. He's a big puppy under all that wolf."
Gibbs had walked into the hallway to look for Tony. After a few moments, Tony walked out. Big mistake. Ned, Clay, Nathan, and Hotch all jumped to their feet. Using their presence alone, were able to halt the fest of the wolves from reacting. Alex was trying her best from preventing the alpha themselves from reacting.
She quickly grabbed Clay by the hand, who had begun to approach the agent. 'If you all snap, the others will as well. Remember we are in a hospital.'
Nathan scoffed, taking a few steps back. 'Everyone needs to leave.' Before the packs could protest, he stopped them. 'Too many emotions are running hot right now. We are affecting each other, which is affecting all of you. Hotchner, take them back. Once you have calmed down, come back.'
'Alright.' Grabbing his jacket, he called for the others to follow.
'Nathan? Clay? You two need air?' Ned asked, getting no response.
Once the wolves left the area, they were all able to breathe. Because of the connection between an alpha and his pack, emotions are felt. Now put 20 something pissed-off wolves in a small room with five pissed-off alphas, you had a volcano brewing. Every time you took in a breath, it felt as if someone was poking you with a stick. Just jabbing and jabbing over and over, pissing you off even more. If the alpha loses control the entire pack loses it. Unless mated there is no one else that could stop a rampaging wolf.
It wasn't until the sun had gone down, that we received any news. Ziva had walked out to the waiting room, followed by Gibbs. The woman was still wearing the bloody clothes she came in with. The smell of Eyal's blood causes the wolves nausea. She was tired and from the looks of it, about to collapse.
"How is he?" Nathan asked.
Ziva offered a forced smile. "They say he is going to pull through." She held her hand out to Gibbs, who in return handed her a small jar. "They found this in the wounds. They can't figure out what it was."
Alex grabbed the jar, bringing it closer for inspection. It was the three bullets. "Silver?"
Clay grabbed it with a shake of his head. "This has been modified. Bane mixed in with the silver." He handed it to Ned. "I know only one group that uses that exact combination."
"Lycans." Ned growled.
"Who?" Gibbs asked.
Ned handed the jar over to Nathan. "The laycans are th-Ziva!" He lunged forward, catching her before falling to the ground. "Hey." Pushing her hair back, he released a long breath. "I got you."
POV: Alex
We all piled into Gibbs's house. The team minus Tony had joined us as well. Gibbs has offered us to come back and explain what we knew.
Spotting him walk into the kitchen, I walked in after him. "You didn't have to do all of this. We could have gone back to the compound."
"It's not a problem Alex." Gibbs replied. "Besides, Ziva needs to be in bed. It's still a good ten miles from your place."
"Eyal could have died today," I muttered. "Tony could have killed him. Do you know what that would have done? The danger it would have brought down on all of you? If Eyal dies, I will not be able to protect any of you. I don't know what I'd do if anything happens to you. If they-"
"Hey, shhh." He wrapped his arms about me, pulling me into his chest. My face was buried in the crook of his neck. "Shhh. Eyal will be fine. Nothing will happen to us."
"You can't know that." I whispered.
Gibbs chuckled. "I do." Pulling back enough to see my face, he wiped the tears away. "We have been through enough to know that. Besides, it's not like I am just going to let them come for us."
"It doesn't stop the worrying."
"And it never will Alex." He whispered. "When you care for someone, you will never stop worrying." Pulling me into another hug, he whispered. "I don't."
"We are ready when you two are!" Hotch yelled from the living room.
"I hate that guy." I grumbled.
Pulling away, he grabbed the beers and gestured towards the room. "Let's go." Once we were settled, all attention was turned to Ned.
"The Lycans are hunters. Notorious for hunting werewolves mostly." Ned began. "But they are hunter by hire. Which can only mean one thing."
"Someone hired them to kill Eyal," Tim stated.
Nathan nodded. "Yes, but that doesn't explain how your agent got these bullets in his gun."
"We need to speak with him." Clay added. "Where is he?"
Gibbs sighed. "His apartment most likely."
"Alone?" I asked. "He does realize there are at least fifty wolves that want him dead." Everyone paled at the realization.
Gibbs tossed Tim his set of keys. "Go bring him here. He puts up a fight, you have my permission to knock him cold."
Clay jumped to his feet, a mischievous grin on his face. "I'll come with. Might need to help to drag the body to the car."
"No killing!" I yelled after the two over-eager men. "Did you hear me?!"
"What was that?!"
"I am going to kill him." Turning towards Ned, I mauled over my question. "What do you plan on doing?"
"Want to be a bit specific?" He yawned. "I have a few things going on at the moment."
"With Tony."
He shared a look with Nathan. "Although this wasn't my choice, I have agreed to let Eyal be the one. Nathan had brought it to my attention that, the alpha human and his puppies are a part of both your and Ziva's pack. Therefore I will allow alpha Lavine to deal the punishment."
I felt a weight being lifted. "Thank you."
"Don't thank me yet." Ned said. "Ziva also has the right to set punishment. You might want to keep her away from him for a bit."
Gibbs ran a hand through his hair. "Wha-"
"Jethro I'm hom-" Lisa walked into the house, freezing at the door. "Oh, hello. I had no idea we were having guests tonight."
"Lisa, what are you doing here?" Gibbs huffed.
She raised the bags as if they answered his question. "We had dinner plans."
"Can we change it for another night?" He pulled her into the kitchen. "I can't tonight, I have something going on."
"This is the third time you have canceled on me."
"I'm sorry."
"Not good enough."
I bit my lower lip, trying not to pay attention to the conversation. But when your hearing is that good, it's impossible.
"Listen, once I have a cleared night I'll cook. Right now, you need to leave."
"First you cancel and now you're kicking me out?"
"N-no." He sighed. "I have an ongoing case. You can not be here."
"What is she doing here?"
"What?"
"The girl. If this is an ongoing case, what is she doing here?"
"She's a part of the case."
"I never knew she was an agent. What is that like a new code for an affair?"
'Seriously? She's acting like a fucken teenager.'
"That's enough Lisa." The sound of a bottle slamming on the counter was heard. "I don't mind you coming here unannounced, but I will not have you accusing me of something I haven't done. Or disrespecting Alex. You need to leave."
"You know what." She grabbed her bags, marching out of the kitchen. "Just call me when you aren't...working." With that, she slammed the door and left.
I glanced over at him. "She is charming." That earned me an eye roll.
It took Clay and Tim two hours just to arrive with a pissed-off Tony. Pushing him down on the ottoman, Clay removed the ropes around his wrist.
"What the hell am I doing here?" Tony snapped. "Coming into my apartment and dragging me out without reason!"
"Without reason?" We all turned to see Ziva in the hallway. "You shot Eyal. Is that not enough?"
"He had it coming," Tony growled. "The bastard tried to attack me. Of course, I shot him!"
What the hell was the matter with him?
"What do you mean he tried to attack you?" I asked.
"I received a text from Ziva. Telling me to show up at her place." Tony began. "When I got there, out of nowhere Eyal appears. He's shifted, foam around the mouth he looked sick. Like Cujo only less bloody."
"Eyal was fine all day." Nathan said. "We don't get sick. We can't get sick."
"I wasn't about to become dog chow, so yeah I shot him." Tony continued. "Every time I shot him, he would simply get up and keep coming."
Reaching for the jar, I placed it in front of him. "Where did you get these bullets?"
Tony frowned. "Those aren't mine."
"They came from your gun."
"Yeah, I know, but they aren't mine." Tony groaned. "I went to the shooting range earlier today. I ran out of ammo and some guy offered to share a clip. That's when I got the text, took the clip, and left."
Clay stepped up to Tony, grabbing him by the jaw and tilting his head to the side. "Have you seen that man before?"
"Outside the shooting range." He shrugged. "He bumped into me, something on him even ripped my sleeve."
Clay walked around, lifting his sleeves. "Eyal did attack him."
"What?!"
"Tony, the man you bumped into was a Lycan hunter." Clay raised Tony's arm, showing a long cut. It looked as if someone has sprinkled purple glitter over the bloody wound. "As we said earlier, they are the elite in hunting, but they never pass an opportunity to allow someone else to do their dirty work."
"How about someone explains for the non-wolves in the room." Tony demanded.
"They are saying you were used as a puppet." Tim said.
Ned nodded. "Pretty much."
"How?" Gibbs asked.
I pointed to the glitter-like thing. "It's a mixture of toxins. It's harmless to humans but does make them hallucinate. When Tony got to cut the toxins were released into his system. It takes a few minutes to kick in, but the smell is strong enough for a wolf to catch onto. Eyal must have smelt it on him." Running my finger over the powder, I tasted it. Spitting it out almost immediately after feeling the burn. "Tony you have a bite on your arm as well."
"Yeah, he took a bite out of me."
"He wasn't trying to bite you." Nathan said. "He was trying to get the toxin out of you."
"By taking a chunk out of me?" Tony yelped.
I couldn't resist rolling my eyes. "The only way one can take it out is by sucking it out. He must have tried and ended up getting burned."
"How?" Ziva asked.
"The Lycans know of all our weaknesses. Although due to centuries of building up a tolerance for wolf's bane, we still get burn by it is ingested." I glanced at the powder on my finger. "They must have mixed it in with the toxin to avoid any of us from sucking it out."
"So, what? Do I just walk around with a hallucinate toxin in my system?" Tony snapped.
"Keep that attitude and I will take a bite out of you." I growled.
Nathan huffed. "Is there any harm in leaving him as he is?"
Ned shrugged. "Wouldn't know. We always take it out."
"Well, there is always a first time." Ziva added.
I crossed my arms, nodding. "I mean he seems fine, what the worse that can happen?"
Tony kept looking from me to Ziva to the others and back. "You can't be serious? Get this thing out of me!"
Ned growled. "It may not be completely your fault, but in the end, you shot three altered bullets into my packmate. You are only alive because he is. Don't tempt your fate."
I knew seeing his teammate being treated in such a way must have been hard for Gibbs, but I had to hand it to him. He kept his reaction to himself and allowed the others to vent. This was honestly the only safe way to do so, with no one getting hurt. Yet.
"Nathan why don't you take the others back to the compound." I suggested. "Ziva still needs to get some rest and there is nothing we can do tonight."
Nathan raised a brow, glancing at Gibbs. "I suppose you will be staying?" I nodded. "Very well, I'll pick you two up tomorrow morning."
"Thank you."
Tony, Ziva, Tim, Gibbs, and I were the only ones left. Ziva had decided to call it a night. Not after warning Tony that their conversation wasn't over. Tim left after a drink, not wanting to be around so much tension.
"Am I going to have a pack trial?" Tony asked.
I held my breath for a second. "I don't think so."
"But, without the trial how will I prove I didn't mean to shoot him?" Tony asked confused. "I prefer to prove my innocence in front of everyone."
I shared a look with Gibbs. "Tony, a pack trial is not what you think. It won't help prove anything, but the fact that you can't outrun a pack of wolves." The man was completely confused. "I will but this is as simple as I can. You do not want a pack trial."
"You should stay here tonight." Gibbs ordered. "It's best if you don't tempt the tolerance of those wolves."
"Yeah, alright." Tony grabbed the blanket draped over the couch. "I am taking the guest room."
"Stay away from Ziva," Gibbs yelled after him.
"I don't have a death wish!" Tony yelled back.
I fell in the spot beside Gibbs. "Could have fooled me." Snatching the beer out of Gibbs's hands, I busy myself by reading the label. "Today was not how I envisioned my day."
"That was my beer." Gibbs mumbled.
"Huh." Raising the bottle, I twirled it around. "Don't see your name on it."
Snatching the bottle back, he reached for a pen on the table and wrote his name. "There."
"That was petty."
"You want one, go grab another."
I groaned. "I'm too tired to get up."
With a simple eye roll, he walked over to grab a beer and brought it back. "Here."
"You know I can't drink." I raised a brow.
Slamming the bottle on the table he took his seat once more. "You're insufferable sometimes."
"I know."
There was a fat silence between the two of us for a moment. "Is Tony in any danger?"
"Yes." I noticed his clenched jaws and fist. "You need to understand something. The bond we have for one another is something out of this world. The Alpha is like a parent, sibling, or friend to each wolf in the pack. Whatever they need the alpha to be they will be it. They are the ones that protect them. Give them comfort when needed and some of the time even die for their packs." Taking his bottle out of his hand, I sighed. "An alpha has two bonds in his life. The one to his pack and the one to his mate. Sever either one and you will have a rampage on both ends. Should have Eyal died, not only would you have the pack stop at nothing from killing the responsible one, but a mate as well."
"Ziva is human, she wouldn't have the same response." Gibbs stated.
I shook my head. "Before I would have agreed with you. But she's mates to him now. There are several changes in her. Her emotions are connected to him and the pack. Any slight change affects everyone. She would have responded the same, if not worse than the pack. And that's not counting the emotions of her pups." I could see his counterargument coming. "Before you try and defend him, that he was under the influence of the toxin hear me out. Tony had been the only one from the team that has shown dislike for us all. He has shown over and over that he will not accept us. We all know of his hatred towards Eyal, because of his attraction to Ziva. And my guess is the hunters knew that. So to make the impact sting, even more, they used him. The packs already don't like him, Gibbs, this is just adding fuel."
"So, how do I keep him alive?"
"Keep him away from the packs. At least until Eyal is back and in control." I replied. "The packs respect Ned and the others, but at the end of the day, they don't lead them. The less they see him, the quicker this can be solved."
"Keep him away." Gibbs exhaled slowly. "Shouldn't be too hard."
'No, the tricky part was keeping the pack away.'
