Chapter 2
Regina hadn't been sure what she had been expecting upon arriving in a new world, universe, or whatever you want to call it. But it certainly had not included winding up landing on her bum in a filthy alleyway behind a bookstore. Groaning slightly, she sat there for a second and tried to gain a modicum of pride.
"Well if this is a precursor to what my life is going to be like from now on, I should probably find somewhere new," She said.
Getting up off the dirty ground, she was surprised to find herself in different clothes than what she had been wearing when she left Storybrooke. She had been wearing a dark blue pantsuit with a white shirt and now she was in what she would have called dark attire. A tight-fitting black dress with silver stitching resembling climbing vines over the sleeves and around the hem. Her hair which had been about chin length was now much longer and in her favorite style of an extremely high ponytail and hanging over her right shoulder.
Deciding it wouldn't do her any good to remain where she was currently standing, she walked out of the alley and into the street. It was like stepping back in time; literally, almost everyone Regina could see rushing through the cobblestone street was in 19th-century style robes of all colors and fabrics. Some combinations even had the poor newcomer almost feeling ill due to the complete lack of color coordination. She strolled along into the street until a newspaper stand came into view. Realizing that she did not know what kind of currency this world would currently use, she resolved to check what the date was. The headline boldly stated Boy-Who-Lived, Harry Potter To Attend Hogwarts This Year. What a stupid name, Regina mused as she looked for the date. Ah, there it was, July 29, 1991. Hmm. Well, it was certainly an improvement to get out of 1984.
The former Evil Queen or was it, evil mayor contemplated what she should do first. The spellbook stated that this incantation would give her a completely new identity. Deciding she would have to ask for assistance she walked across the street and entered a shop called Madam Malkin's. Upon being informed that Regina was new in town and looking for potential relatives the proprietor was quite happy to be of assistance. She informed Regina that she would need an inheritance test at Gringotts bank and warned her to be polite to the goblins.
"The Goblins can be very mean if they feel slighted or you try to steal something from them. They have their own laws within their building so be very careful. It will impress them if you ask them for what the proper greeting to a goblin ought to be." Madam Malkin's stated.
"How do I find the building? Asked Regina
"It is right up the street, dear; big white building with guards out front."
"Thank you very much for your assistance." Said Regina and promptly left the store.
