Prologue
Demon World is a land filled with the most powerful apparitions of whoever lived in the ancient land. There resides the four Kings of the demon world: Raizen, Mukuro, Yomi, and Namiyo. Among one of the four kings, Namiyo had a daughter and named her Wakumi. Named after the beautiful spring of water.
Her powers were equal to her father's and had become one of the most powerful water apparitions known to the demon world. Her name became a legend, setting fear into the eyes of the weakest of demons who live. Despite her power and strength, she was unlike other demons who strive to kill just for satisfaction, but she kills for justice to however harm the innocent demons. Especially the female ones.
Wakumi dedicated her life to serving and protecting what is right, despite the friendly rivalry with one of the other demon lords, Mukuro. They both would have some friendly fights and sometimes talk about improving their territories.
But it was when Wakumi's careless actions, made the biggest mistake of her life. When she went to the living world, she met a human. She tried attacking him, but the human didn't show any fear in his eyes like he was ready to die. Through this, Wakumi mated with him and immediately regretted it, because when she returned to the demon world a few weeks later, she became pregnant with a half-human child in her.
When Namiyo heard this, Wakumi was cast out of her own territory. The council of her father didn't want a half-breed human in their hands and let Namiyo have no choice but to cast her out. Wakumi accepted her punishment and promised herself that she would do anything to protect her own child. Never to return to her father again.
Months went by quickly as Wakumi gave birth to her child on her own in a lake. She quickly but gently rubbed her young infant with a wet towel and kissed her gently.
"Welcome to the world, my beautiful ocean." Wakumi said to her child as she put up a strong barrier around them until she regained some strength to look after her child.
"I haven't given you a name yet sweetie. What should I call my little ocean?" She baby talked to her daughter as she gently caressed her cheeks. "You're going to be a beautiful demon when you grow up. Such a rare and unusual beauty for a baby like you, my ocean." She smiled knowing what name to give her child. "Hayami. That will be your name, my ocean. I promise, mommy's going to take care of you."
Years went by and Hayami did grow up with a beauty that is rare for a demon child. Born with nightshade hair and amethyst-like eyes. At a young age, Wakumi taught Hayami how to use a sword and had learned how to defend herself when she was alone. Many demons tried to take Hayami, but their success barely happened, mostly because Hayami killed every demon who tried to take her or use her for their own personal use. Through those years, Wakumi met a fellow water apparition named Ryuji Ezume. Said that he was from Namiyo's grounds and said that he was of no harm to her or Hayami.
Ryuji wasn't like other demons that they both met. He was patient, understanding, and not quick to judge. Much to Hayami's delight upon seeing him. He even taught Hayami how to use her water powers when she doesn't have her sword with her. Wakumi and Ryuji fell in love as the months passed and they were wed. It wasn't long before Wakumi gave birth to another baby girl, and they named her Ranumi. Hayami was happy to be a big sister and through this, her maturity grew to be responsible but kept her carefree spirit and fierce personality.
As the years passed for the family, Hayami went to explore more of the area that is near the home they all have settled in. She was aware of the demons who wanted her mother's gemstone for when she cried giving birth to her. She never took the necklace as she found comfort in wearing it as if her mother was with her all the time. Along the way, she explores the areas, and she came across a small demon duel.
She stood on the tree branch as she watched the fight. What caught her eyes was the Hiruseki stone that the black-haired demon was wearing around his neck. In the end, the said demon won, stabbing his opponent into his stomach. She was about to leave until he set eyes on her.
They both stared into their eyes. She looked at his crimson ones while he looked into her amethyst ones. Hayami looked down at his necklace once more, but he saw this and smirked, surprising her a bit.
"Hn. I'm guessing this interested you." He said holding out his hiruseki stone as she stayed silent, not uttering a word to what he said, "Wait...I can easily smell that you are half human. Hn, then you must be Lady Wakumi's daughter. It will be an honor to kill you."
Hayami stared in shock. Everyone knows in the demon world about her mother's name is a legend, but they mostly target her half-breed child, which was her.
"I'm not easily defeated demon." She replied, taking out her sword, "Try to threaten me and you'll see what I'm capable of."
"A challenge from the daughter of the Lady Wakumi? Now this will be fun." He lashed out at her as they both attacked with their swords.
Hayami kept her calm but fierce expression as she fought the demon. She could tell that he is on the same level as him and that the fight could end out in a draw or that someone would triumph, depending on the skills.
"Hn. Not bad." The demon smirked, "You obviously inherited your skills from her." He complimented as he blocked the attacks.
"You're not that bad yourself." Hayami backed away and threw water like daggers at him, which caught him off guard as he dodged all that come at him.
"Clever, but that's not going to beat me, girl." He said, being quite impressed with the skills she's shown so far. "And your still just a human half-breed."
"You fool. I hated my origin and never wanted to be a part of it!" Hayami yelled jumping onto a tree branch.
"What, are you gonna cower to a fight that you clearly can lose?" He said,
"Don't get cocky, it might be your downfall." She said as she launched another water dagger at her, but she didn't aim for him.
"Huh, your aim was pathetic. That didn't even head towards me." He said looking at her,
"Who said that it was for you?" She said, looking to where she threw the daggers, only to find a demon falling out of the shadows, lying dead on the ground. "It was for him. Be lucky you're not getting stabbed in the back as we kept the fight." She looked at his crimson eyes to see that he was a bit surprised,
That was when they both realized that they were surrounded by other lower-class demons.
"Hn, looks like the fool is not the only one who failed to make an ambush." The demon said, looking at all the demons who were staring at them,
"We're going to be legends if we killed that water half breed!"
"You'll get the body and I'll take the necklace."
"For a half-breed, she looks hot."
Each of the demons commented on Hayami as she stared at them with disgust and hatred.
"You foolish demons are just a bunch of crap." Hayami said, "This day will be your last day with the living." She readied her sword, preparing for them to attack.
"Care for me to join you?" The black-haired demon said to her. "I can let you have all the fun."
"Do what you'd like, I'm not stopping even if we're stopping our fight." She replied
Both engaged the group of demons, slicing them to pieces. Attacking and dodging each demon that went for them. It took a while, but they both managed to kill every demon who tried to destroy Hayami. One of them did manage to make a cut on her left arm, as blood came pouring out of her skin. She wiped off the pouring blood before looking at her now bloody hand. Not only that it stings.
"You can finish me now that I'm injured. No better chances than this." She said to the demon who kept staring at her.
"No." He said surprising her a bit, "As much as I want to make your death my next kill, this fight will obviously not be fair especially now with your injury. This fight is a draw."
Hayami stared at him clueless about what to say. The demon walked towards her before grabbing her wounded arm and inspecting the wound.
"Who- Who are you?" Were the words that came out of her mouth as she looked at the black-haired demon confusedly.
"Hiei. Hiei Jaganshi." He told his name, looking into her amethyst eyes. "And yours?"
"Hayami. Hayami Ezume." She replied,
Hiei smirked at her. "I will admit that I'm impressed with your skills. I must've underestimated the daughter of Lady Wakumi."
Hayami rolled her eyes, pulling her arm away, turning around as she walked away while holding her injured arm. She headed back to her home, unknowingly aware that Hiei secretly followed her back.
Years went by, and Hiei and Hayami became close friends as they both killed lower demons. In a way, they both enjoyed each other's company. They both would sometimes train with Wakumi when it comes to sword fighting. Much to the mother's delight, she was happy to see her eldest with a boy that could make her happy.
When Hayami went to find Hiei, she saw him fighting a demon on the edge of the cliff. She immediately went to help him as she stabbed the demon from behind while Hiei stabbed him in the chest. Hiei looked down at the cliff feeling angry at himself for being careless about losing the hiruseki stone.
Hayami saw his expression and knows that it was best to not push it. A few days later, Hiei asked her to come with him to get a Jagan implant. She at first didn't like the idea, but after he explained his reason, she agreed but feeling like he would leave her for good.
It was then a night in the demon world and the following morning is when Hayami is going to go with Hiei to Shigure. Wakumi stared at her eldest, seeing her sleep peacefully with no care in the world. She didn't want to break her own daughter from what was to happen, but it was for the best.
"Are you sure you want to proceed with this, love?" Ryuji asked as he stood behind his wife, placing a hand on her shoulder.
"If my visions were to be true, my powers shouldn't fall into the wrong hands." Wakumi said, "Ranumi is still too young to handle the amount of power. I know Hayami can handle it. She's always been strong since she was a child after the years that I've raised her."
"You know this could break her when she knows the truth. She looks up to you more than anyone." Ryuji said kissing her head. "And most importantly I don't want to lose you to what's about to happen." He wrapped his arms around her, trapping her in his embrace.
"You know I love you, Ryuji. Hayami and Ranumi will be my legacy. With you there to guide them." She said, "There's no other way, love. It must be done. My powers cannot just disappear into thin air. Once all my powers are inside her, only she can release and control them. I have faith in her, even if she is a half-demon."
"I hope so."
Wakumi then created a bright water orb, containing all her powers inside as she gives it to her sleeping daughter as her body glowed a bright blue. Her usually nightshade hair now has teal highlights on the ends of her hair. Meaning that the power that is now within Hayami has started to grow as her whole entire body started to glow in bright blue light. It ended within seconds and Hayami now has her mother's powers within her.
The next day, Hayami went with Hiei to Shigure for the Jagan implant. Hiei instantly noticed the teal highlights on her hair when he saw her. He'll never admit it, but he thought that she looks more beautiful than she was. Hayami didn't notice at first but was shocked that her hair changed a bit.
During the whole way to Shigure, Hayami was mostly quiet the whole time they went and Hiei mentally questioned her sudden silence but didn't push it further. They made it to the place and Hiei immediately demanded the implant. Shigure said that it would be the most painful thing he'll experience, but Hiei immediately proved that he could take the pain by stabbing his hand with his sword, catching Hayami off guard.
As Shigure went to start the surgery, Hiei held Hayami's hand softly tightly as she was about to go wait outside.
"Stay, Onna. I want you to be here when this is over." Hiei said to her as he stared at her amethyst orbs.
Hayami sighed but smiled softly, reassuring him that she would be staying when it is over as she also held his hand with both of hers. Shigure then started the surgery as Hiei cried in pain. Hayami closed her eyes and looked away while feeling his hand tighten its hold as the pain go on. She started to cry colored gemstones, mentally praying that this would be over soon and that Hiei could survive this.
For what seemed like hours, the surgery was done. Hayami felt Hiei's demon energy was low but other than that he's alive and recovering from the surgery as his whole forehead was covered in a bandage to where his Jagan eye is. It took an entire day for him to recover. Hiei slowly opened his eyes and noticed that he was sleeping on Hayami's lap and that she was asleep. He gently reached out his hand and tucked some of her hair behind her ear, causing her to slowly wake up. Hiei then quickly sat up.
"You finally up?" Hayami asked rubbing her eyes,
"How long was I out?" He asked,
"A whole day." She said before looking at him. "I stayed with you until you woke up. I even told my parents through my water mirror yesterday, so they let me stay out a little longer."
Hiei 'Hn' as he put on his black coat and grabbed his sword as they both went out of the building. Outside they see Shigure swinging a ring-like sword. As they were about to leave Shigure stopped them, saying that Hiei's demon energy dropped to that of an infant. It took a few hours as Hayami used her healing powers to speed up his recovery and give him a bit of her energy.
Hayami stood at the cliff staring at the oceans of the demon world and thinks about what will happen after this. Hiei has told her of his purpose of getting the Jagan implant in finding not only his mother's stone but also the Glacial village.
Hiei arrived at where she was and they both talked a bit more before they were about to leave. But Hayami couldn't shake the feeling of being left alone or being used by the fire demon she's grown to care about so much.
"Do you think you could find both...all on your own, Hiei?" She asked sadly to the fire demon who was walking away.
"Don't get your hopes up." He replied, "I have come for what I came for and have no business here anymore. At least now it will be a lot faster."
'So it means that you don't need me anymore. I guess this is goodbye.' Hayami thought sadly, "Whatever you say, Hiei." She said turning towards the cliffs as she walks and stands on the very edge of the cliff, facing the ocean in front of her.
"What are you doing, Onna?" He asked facing his body towards the water demon as he stopped in his tracks.
"Like what you said: You have no business here anymore. More like I have no business in being here with you anymore."
A single tear fell from her eyes as a gust of wind blows in front of her, making the tear blow towards Hiei, landing on his cheek.
"Hayami, what are you saying?" He asked with a hint of concern in his voice, but she didn't answer.
With that, she jumped off the cliff as her body disappeared in the crash of the waves. Hiei stood there in surprise, even using his Jagan eye to search for her body, but the body wasn't found.
"I know you're not dead, Hayami." He said to no one, 'We'll meet again someday. And one day...I'd like to claim you as mine.' He told himself in his thoughts as he looks at the ocean of the demon world. 'You're no ordinary half-breed in my eyes, Onna. You're one of a kind.'
Hayami came back to her home, feeling a bit depressed and not wanting to see the fire demon any time soon. Suddenly a huge wave of energy was felt as she immediately rushed towards the place where she felt the energy. Much to her surprise, it was at her home.
Ryuji called her with little Ranumi in his arms, crying as she held onto her father's chest. Wakumi wasn't with them and Hayami demanded an explanation from her stepfather about what was going on. Hesitantly, Ryuji explained about Wakumi's visions and that two nights ago was when she gave all her power to her to protect it.
Hayami was shocked and immediately rushed to where her mother was, completely ignoring her father. When she got there, she saw two known high-class demons fighting her mother. The Toguro brothers. Hayami froze in her place, watching her mother get beaten up by the two demons. Completely shocked and scared that she might lose her mother.
With a final strike from the younger Toguro, Wakumi's life energy blows its final energy as her body falls onto the ground. Hayami's eyes widen in shock. Seeing her mother killed by the two demons.
Something broke in her. Suddenly, thunder clouds started to form above the demons. Hayami was blinded by anger, fear, and pain. Suddenly a huge wave of energy goes off from the half-breed's body, spreading all the areas that were near her. Her powers constantly rose as her eyes glowed a bright magenta and water started to surround her body.
In an instant, Hayami rushed toward the Toguro brothers with rage in her attacks, clearly not thinking about anything else but only avenging her mother. Both Toguro's smirked and used their powers to stop her and barely missed as they continued to punch her with every attempt, she makes to get close. But her attempt and control of her powers were not enough.
Hayami was then left all bruised up, left there to die with her mother until Ryuji and Ranumi found them both. The three of them cradled Wakumi's body in their arms, mourning their loss. This loss took a heavy turn on Hayami. She looked up to her mother and she made sacrifices on her own as she raised her since birth before meeting Ryuji. Ranumi cried out hard, tears forming into colorful gemstones as they hit the ground.
Ryuji vowed to never love another woman other than Wakumi. He loved her so much and tried pleading with her to stop, yet she insisted to let her visions come. It broke his heart to see his wife gone but promised to give his children the care and love they deserve and to protect them.
Ranumi even promised that she would start practicing her powers to protect her father and sisters, despite her young age as a demon. She was young yet she always felt sympathy and empathy in everything.
Something changed in Hayami after they buried their mother's body near the grave of her grandfather's territory. Her expression became emotionless but kept the fierce look. Her eyes were cold like they were ready to kill. Hayami vowed to herself that whoever tries to hurt more of the ones she cared about will be slaughtered in an instant.
This begins a new beginning for her in not just controlling her power but also taking her anger out on those who will say something insulting about her mother.
