Chapter 1: Eventful Events
Hayami's POV
I was currently in Spirit World, more specifically in Koenma's office, because told me that there's going to be someone, I'll be watching in case things get complicated.
"Exactly who is this human you ask me to watch over." I asked, mostly because I don't want to waste my time on it.
"His name is Yusuke Urameshi. A high school student who isn't new to fights." Koenma said, "I've recently brought him back to life when he died from a car accident saving a young boy on the road. I'm recruiting him to be my new spirit detective." My eyes widen a little when he said that. "Of course, the job means arresting all demons, but given your records Hayami, you haven't committed any crime, including your family, considering that you are half human and half demon. I trust that you'll be assisting him when it comes to stopping these demons."
I nodded. "When will I be meeting this boy? It's best to let him know that I'm an ally to him before he wants to kill or arrest me." I said,
"He is at school right now, though I will be visiting him later. You should be meeting him in town."
"Alright." I was then transported back to the living world near the forest. "Hmm, at least this place is near the town." I said as I walked down the streets towards Meiou Private High. My sister's and a certain fox demon's school.
Ranumi's POV
Another day ended as I packed up my things. Meiou High has always been my way of getting to know more about humans. Despite me being a demon, I fit in with them just fine. Everyone in school was very nice here, apart from the bullies who were part of a fan club of someone popular in this school. Shuichi Minamino.
Girls love him. Not just for his good looks, but for how he always has the top scores every week. He's basically named 'Prince of Meiou High'. I've seen how girls would act when he's not around and I'd rather avoid them as much as possible. In truth, I'm in the same class as him.
A boy towards me looked nervous. "Hey there Umi, are you free this weekend, if you'd like, we could go hang out?" He asked nervously,
I gently shook my head as I looked at him with apologetic eyes. "Sorry, but I'm kind of busy when it comes to the weekends. Though I appreciate the offer, I must decline. Sorry." I politely apologized to him,
He looked a little disappointed but gently smile at me. "Oh no, it's okay, Umi. Really, it's okay. Maybe we could hang out another time?" He said waving his hands,
"I would appreciate that." I said as he smiled at me before walking away.
One thing about me being in school is that the boys here are always asking me to go on dates with them. Not only that my real name is Ranumi. Umi became my human name when I first started to try human life. Basically, I've become popular in school as well because of my white to blue hair and how my scores are just second to Shuichi's. Human girls wanted to be my friend, especially the wealthy ones while boys flirted or ask me out. But I always decline, mostly because I don't want to be near someone who is a human. Though I did make a few trusting friends and that is enough for me.
As I was walking out of the classroom with my bag on my back, three girls blocked my path at the door.
"Oh, look, ladies, it's that white head brat." Their leader, Arisu, said looking down at me.
Another thing is that I'm a short girl, and girls like her like to pick a fight with me. If only they know that I'm not really a human, then they'll really be scared. But I'm not a fighter like my big sister and I don't like to be violent with humans. Plus, I don't like it when people like Arisu, pick a fight with anyone who didn't do anything wrong to them.
"Please, just leave me alone." I said trying to push them out of the way, but they just blocked the door.
"Oh, and why should we do that? You are nothing special. You don't belong here. Besides, that necklace shouldn't be owned by someone like you." She said as she was about to snatch my birthstone.
My mother's teardrop.
I quickly grabbed her wrist as she started screaming in pain. I looked at her confused. I only squeezed her wrist a little. I let go of her wrist as I walked out of the classroom.
"Hey, where do you think you're going?! I'm not finished with you, bitch!" Arisu yelled, making me look back at her with an annoyed look on my face as she was holding her wrist. "Come back here! You'll pay for hurting me."
'What a drama queen.' I thought as I listened to her nonsense excuses. I only acted in self-defense, and I barely put any effort into it.
I sighed at her exaggeration as I turned my head back in front, only to bump into someone's lower chest. I suddenly smelled the scent of roses only to look up to see Shuichi Minamino. I immediately backed away from him and apologized as I quickly walked away from him, holding my birthstone that was around my neck.
"Umi wait!" Shuichi called out to me, but I ignored it since I don't want to get involved with him at anything.
Shuichi would always want to get a chance to talk with me, whether there were not many people around or not, but I kept excusing myself and ignored him when he called me. It's not like I don't like him, but I don't want girls like Arisu to pick a fight with me because I'm hanging out with the Prince of Meiou High. It would just cause drama and problems that I wouldn't want to be a part of.
Once I was out of the school, I saw Hayami standing by at the school gate with her hands in her pocket, patiently waiting for me. I smiled and ran up to my big sister, giving her a hug which she returned.
"How's school today?" She asked breaking the hug as we walked back home.
"It's alright, like usual." I said, my voice neutral since I don't want to tell her about what happened earlier. "How about you? How was your day?" I asked,
She sighed, "I went to Spirit World today, since Koenma ask for my presence there and to inform me about his new spirit detective."
"Spirit detective?" I looked at her a bit shocked,
"That's right. Though I will be meeting him soon in town. I just came to get you and bring you home to father."
I looked back in front with my thoughts occupying my head as I and Hayami walked back home.
"Are you sure that nothing else happened in school?" She asked not looking at me while I looked at her confused, "Because from the look on your face earlier, something did happen."
I sighed in defeat. I can't hide anything from her. I mean she is my big sister, and she knows me better than anyone other than our father.
"Remember those bullies I told you about?" I asked to which she responded with a nod, "Well, Arisu tried to steal mother's stone from me."
Hayami looked back at me shocked, "She what?" She asked, "Did she do anything else to you?"
"No, she just tried to steal it." I said, holding the gemstone around my neck.
"It's best if you hide the stone whenever you're around school and remember to always keep it near you. You know how important that is to you and to mother." Hayami said,
"I know, I know."
We then reached the house to only be greeted by our father, Ryuji at the door.
"There are my water girls." He said as he hugged us both. "Koenma already informed me about the new spirit detective in town."
"Right. I should get going and meet him in town soon since school is over." Hayami said,
"Just stay safe, Hayami, and watch out for anything unusual. Also, come back home before dinner." He reminded,
"Don't worry, father. I will." She said as she walked toward town.
Hayami's POV
As I was walking back towards
town, my mind wanders off to how Ranumi was acting. She always tells me things about what's happening in school and every time she tells, she always avoided the topic of Shuichi Minamino, aka Kurama.
Sure, I know the guy and he had told me that he has been trying to talk to my sister, but she deliberately ignored him every time. One thing I find amusing is that she has a huge crush on Yoko Kurama when we first met him in demon world, but she doesn't know that he is Shuichi Minamino. Kurama has admitted to me and my father that he has admired Ranumi and has grown protective of her for a while and knew of her behaviors in school. Not that I'm worried, but I trust Kurama with my sister. If only she knows who he really is.
The funniest part is that if she realized who she was ignoring, she wouldn't talk to me for a week after me not told her who Kurama is.
I was almost near the park that was close to town, I sense a familiar presence somewhere behind me. I kept walking casually like nothing is wrong, but I can feel someone trying to get through my mental barrier. I stopped in my tracks to turn around to see no one behind me.
'I could've sworn I felt someone behind me just now.' I wondered as I looked back in front, only to come face to face with the three-eyed fire demon, Hiei.
He didn't even flinch when I turned around. "Why won't you still let me in, Onna?" Hiei asked, not moving an inch as he stared into my eyes,
"Because it's private in my head. And I don't want anyone looking through my memories, rather you like it or not." I said as I was about to walk past him until he grabbed my arm, pulling me towards him and carrying me bridal style as he jumped somewhere away from human sight.
"Hiei! Where are you taking me?! I don't have time for this nonsense! Let go!" I said trying to talk him out of it. Apparently, it's not gonna happen, because he had a firm grip on holding me in his arms.
He carried me near a forest as he carefully puts me down. "Hiei, what are you doing and why did you bring me here?"
"Is this who are you referring to, Hiei?" A voice was heard from behind. Coming out of the shadows was a tall demon. He scoffed, "She doesn't even look much like Lady Wakumi, and I can smell that she's a human. We're already about to storm the vaults and you want this human to come with us?"
"Watch it ugly." I said menacingly, "You better think of your word choice or else."
"Who are you calling ugly, princess?!"
"Just merely your assistance, Hayami." A familiar voice came as I looked at the person who said it. My eyes widen slowly at the sight of the red-headed demon leaning against the tree.
"Don't tell me you're a part of this, Kurama." I said,
"Sadly yes. We've been planning on stealing the three ancient artifacts of darkness from Spirit world's vault for our cause." Kurama explained with a hint of sadness in his voice, "Hiei thought that if you help us, we could succeed in doing this."
"Helping is out of the question. Whatever 'cause' is this about, I'm not gonna be a part of it." I sternly said,
"Gouki, she's powerful as she is." Hiei said crossing his arms as he looks at me. "I've known her long enough to witness what she can do."
Of course, every demon knows of Lady Wakumi and the amount of power that she has. If only they know what really happened because having immense power hers wouldn't just disappear into thin air.
"Ha! And Hiei thinks you are a powerful demon just like her, but your nothing like her." The said demon said,
"I wouldn't say that if I were you." Hiei smirked, "She may be a half-demon, but her power is something to be admired."
"Just look at her, she's nothing but a pretty girl."
"I have no business in this and you're just a waste of time." I said as I started walking away,
"As I said, she's nothing but a pretty face and a coward."
That was the last straw. In a blink of an eye, I rushed towards Gouki, kicking him on the stomach and creating water shurikens, pinning him to the tree. Gouki was now sweating in fear after seeing what he witnessed with me.
"I don't pick up a fight that isn't worth fighting. You should've known better to listen and not to mess with me." I said before walking away again,
Hiei's POV
I smirked at the sight of how Hayami dealt with Gouki. She's still as strong as I remembered when we fought Yatsude.
"Now do you see why I wanted her to join us." I said to Gouki, who is still pinned to the tree, "She may have human blood in her, but her demon blood is what makes her stronger than other humans."
"Hehe. For someone who is a half-demon, she's not only strong, but she also got the looks too." Gouki said, "Kinda reminds me of Lady Wakumi."
I glared daggers at him and growled lightly. The second he saw her; I knew he was looking at her with a perverted gaze. Hayami is not to be taken likely and she is the reason why I stay, to watch her from the distance and make sure no male would touch her.
"That's enough." Kurama said, "We must proceed to Spirit world to get the artifacts."
I 'Hn' as we left, Gouki just behind us, still getting himself free from getting pinned.
When I remembered the Shadow Sword, I knew that it could create a demon with one slice. If I get my hand on that sword, we could create a demon army. And since Hayami is just a half-demon, I'll just use the Shadow Sword to make her a full-fledged demon. She will be thanking me when this is over.
'You really care about her even if she avoids you like a plague.' Kurama said through my mind.
'Hn, she's important to me rather she knows it or not, Kurama.' I told the fox.
I have finally found her and I'm not just gonna let her go again.
'Besides, aren't you the same with Ranumi. She also avoids you like a plague.' I remembered it when I saw the water apparition avoiding the fox through my Jagan eye.
'That's because she doesn't know who I really am, Hiei. She knows that I am Shuichi, not Kurama.' I scoffed at his reply as we made our way to the spirit world.
