Meanwhile, somewhere nearby:
"Great, more fighters." Dharkon thought as he pondered on last night's events. "I'm never going to be able to take them down at this rate."
December 2020:
Galeem and Dharkon had recovered from their first defeat and tried to beat the challengers once more. Galeem immediately gathered up his Master Hand clones and rushed to battle the fighters. Dharkon stayed back and watched from a distance. He was going to do the same thing as last time and take over when Galeem was weakened.
"Alright, second times the charm." Dharkon waited in suspense. Even though the fighters put up a good battle, Galeem was actually beating them down. All of them were launched away, bruised and struggling to get up. The ball of light started to charge up and glow, preparing to capture everyone for a second time.
"Excellent…" Maybe he won't even need to fight them if they're all captured.
Suddenly, a loud noise came out of nowhere, which made Galeem's bright center grow dim and stop charging. Everyone that was watching had their jaws drop, including Dharkon, who didn't even have a mouth. "What is he doing? Why isn't he capturing them?" Dharkon thought for a split second.
As soon as that thought crossed his mind, Galeem's core faded to black and got split in half. Somehow, someone had sliced Galeem into two. He fell apart, along with all of his Master Hand clones. Dharkon couldn't believe his eye. He definitely wasn't recovering from this.
"What. What?! WHAAAAAAAT?!" Dharkon squinted at the culprit that was floating where Galeem was a second ago, watching the destruction that he caused. It was another anime swordfighter, named Sephiroth.
…
"THIS?! THIS GUY KILLED GALEEM IN ONE FELL SWOOP?! WH-" Sephiroth conjured a storm and started to descend. He wreaked havoc on the remaining fighters that still had enough energy to fight with his gigantic sword. Some of them managed to get a few lucky hits on him, but that seemed to make things worse as Sephiroth spread his one wing. He hurled a Gigaflare at three of them, blasting them away. He charged in on Mario and, from a distance, it looked like he impaled the plumber.
Dharkon's eye dilated. He quickly and cautiously moved in closer to see what happened. He was careful to not let anyone see him.
The sword only went through the strap of Mario's overalls, much to Dharkon's disappointment. Another anime swordfighter called Cloud ran towards Sephiroth and swung his sword forward. Sephiroth parried the hit with Mario still on his sword. Sephiroth flung Mario off his sword and continued his duel with Cloud. Their swords clashed with each other, with Sephiroth using Cloud's sword to jump away. Cloud used this opening to unleash his Omnislash with his Fusion Sword, and like 5 other swords. Dharkon had seen enough, and decided to flee while everyone was distracted.
Present:
"What am I going to do now…" He's running low on puppet fighters and Crazy Hand clones, and the common enemies that Dharkon found around his hideaway where he lurks like Koopas and Slimes got taken down too easily by the fighters. It has been a few months since he last attacked them, and he's just about given up hope of shrouding the world in darkness.
*THOOM*
"Huzz- Agh! Why can't Merasmus get the hang of this dimension traveling magic! This better be the right place, Merasmus has been to so many wrong places and… and…"
Dharkon whirled around. He was met with a floating 7-foot wizard wearing a black robe, a scarf, and a very weird hat-skull thing on his head. He also had a book and wooden staff in his hands.
"Monoculus? What are you doing here? Wait a minute, that can't be right. Monoculus doesn't have all those tendrils around him." Dharkon narrowed his eye and glared at him. Merasmus chuckled nervously. Dharkon made a hammer using his tendrils and quickly swung it toward Merasmus.
"AHHHH! No, wait! I don't want to fight! Ow! Stop!" Dharkon stopped but kept his hammer lifted. "Thank you. I have come to this universe to find these nine mercenaries," Merasmus pulled out a poorly drawn picture of the mercenaries. "Especially this one," He pointed to the Soldier. "Have you seen any of them?"
Dharkon stared. "Oh, you don't have a mouth. That's a bit of a problem." Merasmus thought for a bit. "Hmmm… How about you draw what you want to say in the ground with your weird tendrils?" The eye would have frowned if he had a mouth but did what Merasmus suggested anyway.

"Yes, I saw them last night. They're the new fighters invited to Smash Bros. Couldn't miss them if I tried." Merasmus read aloud. "Smash Bros?" Dharkon smoothed out the ground and drew again.
*scribble*
"It's a fighting tournament, they were over there last night." Dharkon pointed to the distant mansion. Merasmus grinned.
"Finally, I found them. I'll finally get to kill them. Granted, I did say that last year, and the four years before that, but this time it'll be different!" He started to float towards the mansion, but Dharkon poked him in the back. Merasmus turned around.
*scribble*
"I'm sorry, did you say that this is your sixth time trying to kill them?"
"Um, well, yes. This is my sixth time. One of the mercenaries, Soldier, was my roommate, and living with him was the most abysmal thing I have experienced I have gone through in all of my 6,000 years. I have tried to kill him and his team for, again, six years, but I keep failing. But it'll be different this time!"
Dharkon racked his brain for a little bit.
*scribble*
"Tell you what; I've been meaning to take down the other fighters, along with those mercenaries you mentioned. How about we work together to beat them?" He wouldn't do this in any other situation, but right now he was desperate.
"That… sounds like a good idea. Alright, I guess I'll work with you, uh… What was your name again?"
*scribble*
"Dharkon. And yours?" He held out a tendril to Merasmus, who nervously shook it.
"Merasmus. Looks like those idiots are in for a surprise, haha!"
