Chapter 3: The Ones who Wander
Kya greeted Yuna with a bow. "Welcome, Lady Yuna. I'm Lady Kya. Is there anything I can do for you?" Kya tried her best to remember what she practiced but the tone of her voice didn't feel natural to her. Yuna tilted her head. "Kya…Kya?" Yuna gasped, shaking her head. "You lived in Bevelle, right? Sir Auron is your uncle?" Yuna spat out the questions all at once as Kya nodded. The summoner smiled and grabbed Kya's hands. "I can't believe it's really you. We have to tell Sir Auron!" Yuna could nearly control her excitement when Kya shook her head and looked down. "This is not the best time." She mumbled, feeling Yuna's hands loosen before finally letting go of Kya. "Not the best time for what?" A young male with blonde hair and strange clothes had seemed to be eavesdropping when he had interrupted. Kya stared at him, unsure of what to say. "I'm sorry." Kya bowed and walked away to join Kinoc and Seymour.
Kya watched the Al-Bhed prepare for battle, she knew deep down that this was going to be a great sacrifice as Sin would destroy everything in its path. "You must be strong. Lady Yuna may need your guidance through this troubled time." Seymour advised as he placed his hand around Kya's shoulder. "Isn't that what her guardians are supposed to do?" Kya suddenly felt irritated. She was growing tired of feeling like it was her only duty but what could she do? She trained for years for this, but in the end, she still didn't feel satisfied. Kya spun around when she heard communication, the Sinsprawn had escaped its cage but it appeared that Yuna and her guardians were already fighting it. "Let them handle it." Kinoc didn't even seem a bit concerned but Kya clearly was. "But I need to do something!" She protested but she realized it was already too late. The fiend was defeated and Seymour was now grabbing her hand, running for shelter behind crates. "Cover your eyes!" He warned as he pressed onto Kya, guarding her.
A blast of warm air swooshed over everyone as a white blinding light caused the Al-Bhed and Crusaders evaporated into thin air. Kya's ears were ringing, it had happened so quickly. She felt Seymour get off of her, signaling it was now safe. What happened? Uncovering her eyes, she felt sick as she saw the destruction that Sin was now leaving behind. Standing up, her body felt as if it had been trampled in a stampede but she knew she had to fight on. "Stay alert, it's our turn to fight." Seymour had noticed the Sinspawn had now gone berserk as Kya joined his side, eager to fight. With a staff in hand, she wished it was a sword. Still, she stood beside Seymour since it was her job to heal those she assisted in battle. "Need some help?" Auron had joined in, with his katana in hand. He didn't seem to notice Kya or maybe he didn't recognize her. Kya looked at Seymour who had casted fire onto the fiend when she heard Yuna join the fight.
The fiend went down with a fight and Kya felt more exhausted then ever. "Everyone, stand back, I summon!" Yuna shouted, feeling desperate to defeat Sin. "You can't!" Seymour protested, he reminded her that she would still need the Final Aeon. Kya noticed that Yuna felt the same as her; useless but wanting to do something. Anything. How many people died today? How many gave up their lives for this? How many families will receive the news that their loved one died fighting Sin?
"Ahh!" Kya ran, shouting towards Sin but arms quickly jerked her back. It was Seymour who was holding her. "I need to do something!" She yelled, struggling as he kept his grasp around her. "People died! How can we stand here and do nothing?" Her yells turned into sobs then into crying. "My job was to protect the people of Spira." Kya felt her face wet with tears. Seymour released her and said nothing. There was nothing he could say to make Kya feel better, she knew this but she wished he had said something. Feeling alone, she wiped her tears and watched Sin swim away. The machina used to fight Sin was destroyed and bodies that didn't vanish scattered all over the battle field. Some were torn apart, or twisted in agony. There were a few bodies that looked as if they were a peaceful slumber.
My job was to protect the people of Spira and to guide the Summoners on their pilgrimage. Yet, I have been able to do nothing. People died. Families will weep in sorrow over their lost beloved. And I, stand here alive and alone. Knowing that no one will feel the sorrow if I die.
