If you have stuck with the story so far, thank you. In this chapter will be a new original character introduced, also there will be some al bhed language used so I'll post the translation at the end of this chapter.
Standing at the shore, Kya watched Yuna perform the sending. What kind of guidance can she provide for a summoner whose duty is the hardest? Pryflies swarm around the dancing summoner, the souls of the dead float up towards the slate sky. The air felt heavy around Kya, she felt the sorrow and pain building up inside her. Sin had come and gone. Sin had left behind destruction as it did many times before. Saying her goodbyes, she joined Seymour when she heard Auron and Kinoc but this time, she wasn't interested in their conversation. Someday, she may confront Auron but today was not the day. "Going so soon?" Seymour noticed Kya walking by. Stopping in her tracks, she paused for a moment. "I'm going to the Djose Temple. I'll see you in Guadosalam." Kya's voice was quiet with exhaustion. "Very well. However, you will have to cross paths with your uncle. Do not be afraid." Seymour bowed but was cut off by Kya when she spun around to face him. Anger was growing like a fire in her eyes and he took notice of this. "I'm not afraid. Now if you excuse me, I'm heading to the temple. I will see you later." With that, she turned around on her heel and walked.
The pathway was crowded with crusaders who were injured or packing their belongings to decide whether or not they should head home. Kya didn't bother to acknowledge anyone as her focus was on the destination. She would offer her guidance to any summoners who were there. As she got closer to the Djose Temple, she noticed the sun rays peeking through gray clouds. Soon, the skies turned into shades of pinks, purples and orange. Kya had finally reached the bridge to Djose Temple, a river ran underneath the stone bridge and rocks slowed the rhythm of the water slightly. After everything that had happened, Kya stopped for a moment to watch the running water as she leaned over the railing. After ten years, my uncle Auron, decided to show up and there was nothing yet everything I wanted to say to him. Not only that, Yuna, a girl I knew from when we were children living in Bevelle has followed in her father's footsteps. Here I am, questioning everything and feeling uncertain of myself, huh? Hey!
A faint squeaking sound distracted Kya's thoughts when she noticed a tan colored small monkey ran up to her on the railing. She noticed its face was lighter than the rest of the body and the tip of its tail was white. Kya smiled as she reached to scratch the monkey's chin as it chirped. Something about this creature was oddly familiar and at that moment, she noticed the distinct heart shaped spot on its forward. "Meiko?" She questioned, tilting her head. The monkey jumped onto her shoulder, rubbing its face on her neck. "Hey, stop, that tickles!" Kya giggled as a young male with wavy sandy blonde hair with pieces of bangs resting over his green swirly eyes. He also had a pair of eye goggles resting on top of his head and was dressed in a blue and yellow shirt with tanned pants paired with blue and black boots. She noticed his left arm was missing and replaced with a machina arm, Kya also noticed there were scars on visible skin as well parts of his face. Still, she had found him rather cute.
"Sorry about that, Meiko doesn't normally wander off like that." The Al Bhed chuckled nervously, his voice thick with the Al Bhed accent. Still, he spoke the Spira language rather well. The male commanded the monkey to come back but Meiko didn't budge, instead she crawled behind Kya's neck, under her hair. "Hey!" The stranger frowned then realization crossed his face as he stared Kya from top to bottom. "Meiko knows you somehow. Please tell me your name." Kya could tell that the male didn't recognize her at all and to be fair, she wouldn't have recognized him either if it wasn't for his pet monkey. "I'm Kya. You remember me don't you? Back when I used to visit Luca, Kalani?" She reached to rub Meiko's chin. Kalani's mouth dropped, then stumbled to find the right words before he finally spoke. "Kya? How have you been?" He had pulled her in for a tight hug, almost too tight as Kya choked. "Oh, sorry. I'm still getting used to the strength of this mechanical arm." Kalani chuckled, waving his left arm. Kya laughed softly, taking notice of how different he looks compared to the last time she had seen him. "I'm doing well, I've become a High Priestess." Kya's voice sounded rather disappointed but she tried to hide it. At that moment, Meiko jumped onto Kalani's shoulder. "I see." He didn't seem too thrilled and she could tell he had thousands of questions of why she stopped visiting Luca.
Growing up, despite being under Jyscal's wing, she never broke the tradition of visiting Luca during the summers. The blitzball games were held and people all over Spira traveled to watch the game. During her stay in Luca, she stayed with a family friend. When she was ten, she met an Al Bhed boy who was at an ice cream stand. Unfortunately, even during the games, people still had hate for the Al Bhed. The young girl noticed that the seller was shooing him away. "Curse those Al Bhed, scaring off me customers!" The old lady mumbled but quickly turned her scowl into a smile when she saw Kya. "Hello dear, which flavor would you like?" Instead of answering, she turned to the boy who was on the verge of tears. "What kind do you like?" Kya asked. The boy looked at her, confused and shook his head. It had dawned on her that he didn't understand what she was saying. Out from the boy's collar peeked a baby monkey. "Meiko, ku yht reta!" He hissed softly at the young monkey but the monkey who was named Mekio squeaked as she crawled out from the boy's shirt and onto Kya's leg.
It was ever since that day, Kya and Kalani became best friends over sea salt ice cream with the help of Meiko. Kya taught Kalani how to speak Spiran and he taught her how to speak some Al Bhed along with how to fix machina. When Kya had turned thirteen, it was decided by the Maesters of Yevon that she would become a High Priestess just like her mother was before her and as her grandmother was. Kya had often wondered what kind of person Kalani will grow up to be. Now five years later, Kya stood face to face with him. "What about you? How have you been?" Kya asked as she watched Kalani feed Meiko a piece of fruit. "Oh, me? I'm a Summoner now. It's been a challenge since Yevon hates us Al Bhed."
"I don't understand the hate either." Kya sighed as she started to walk towards the temple. Kalani walked beside her as the two continued to talk. "No guardians though?" She noticed the male was traveling alone but he didn't seem to mind as he smiled. "Nope, unless you want to count Meiko as a guardian although she hides whenever there's trouble." He seemed to laugh to himself but noticed Kya wasn't smiling. "You alright?" He wondered, sounding concerned. "I'm fine. Just tired is all." Kya looked up at him. It seemed that he grew taller over the past five years. Of course, she hadn't grown much but she looked up at him. She even had to look up slightly at Yuna as Kya stood at only five foot even with the boots on. "I'm going to see if the temple needs any assistance but as my duty as a High Priestess, I wish you well on your journey, Lord Kalani." Kya did a bow prayer which made Kalani frown at her. Shaking his head, Kalani placed a hand on his hip and gave her a serious look. "Please don't ever address me so formally. The Kya I remember would call me a yccruma and be about her merry day. Kya, let's catch up soon, okay?" Kalani gave Kya a ruffle on her head and went inside the inn.
Night finally came as did a few other summoners including Yuna and her guardians. Kya assisted Yuna with healing the wounded alongside Kalani. For a moment, she could forget about the troubles she had seen and forget about her duties as she chatted and laughed with Yuna and Kalani. Although Kalani and Yuna had never met until now and it had been years since she last saw the two, it was almost as if time had never stopped. "Morning is near." Kya had taken notice of the night sky translating into a deep blue and purple. "We should all rest soon." Kalani spoke but Yuna was already yawning. "You're right. Goodnight everyone." Yuna bowed as she went inside the temple. Kalani and Kya decided to rest inside the temple as well. "Looks like we'll both be sleeping on the floor, this place is full." Kalani said, rubbing his eyes and noticed that Meiko was already asleep in his pouch resting at his hip. Kya had already laid on the floor, using her arm as a pillow and drifted off into a deep slumber.
Kya…
Kya…
Let me ease your sorrow.
