I was able to see an orthopedist and he told me that I have Patellofemoral arthritis in my right knee, so I'm currently back in physical therapy.
Leaving
Out by the beach Jim just hung up after giving his partner Harvey Bullock the bad news.
"Mind if I join you?" Sofia came up behind Jim, and handed him a drink while having her own in her hand.
"What are you doing here?" Jim asked.
"I figured you don't know anyone in town, I thought I'd keep you company," Sofia said taking off her sunglasses, "Or maybe I just didn't want to drink alone." Sofia smiled at Jim.
They raised their glasses. "To my dad." Sofia toasted. They clang their glasses together and took a drink.
"I am sorry about your father," Jim told Sofia, "We may have had our differences over the years, but I always respected him."
"Hm. When I was a little girl if I wanted to spend time with my father, he'd have me schedule an appointment," Sofia explains, "Save the respect, I know who my father is. It took him getting sick for us to finally have a real relationship. When I had Leo, I promised myself and him that it wouldn't be that way with us."
"How old is your son?" Jim asked.
"Leo is six years old. I had him when I was only seventeen," Sofia told him, "I met Leo's father when I was sixteen, he was only a couple years older than me, and our relationship was brief. He said that he was on vacation before going to law school. But by the time I found out I was pregnant, he was gone. Anyway, my father didn't agree with it, he wanted me to either send him away or give him to his father, but I just couldn't, so I kept him. After several months my father understood."
"Does he know about Falcone?" Jim asked.
"No, not what he really does," Sofia answered, "I told Leo that he was a business man. I thought it would be safer for him that way."
Jim then asked, "How long have you lived down here?"
"Since I was thirteen," Sofia answered and then explained, "My father thought sending me away from Gotham would keep me safe." Sofia gestured at her home. "There are worse places to grow up. People are happy here, see the sun everyday, but I wasn't alone, I had Mario, we took care of each other. And even though my father wasn't supportive when I first got pregnant, Mario was. He helped me see that I had a choice and he was with me every step of the way since I found out I was pregnant. Leo's father wasn't around, but it didn't matter, because Mario filled in the role of father for Leo, and he helped me take care him when he was younger."
Jim was silent for a few moments, feeling guilty. "I know there's nothing I can say. I am sorry for what happened to him."
Sofia looked away sadly. "You're right there's nothing you can say." She then looked back at Jim. "He was infected with the virus, and you did what you had to."
Jim was surprised at her response. They stayed silent as they looked at each other. Then they took a walk down the beach where they eventually kissed.
Meanwhile Leo just finished packing his suitcase and his backpack. He decided to go to the stable where Copper was so that he could say goodbye to his colt before leaving for Gotham. When Leo got to Copper's stall, he smiled when the young chestnut horse stood up and walked over to him. Copper was technically still a foal as he wasn't fully grown yet, since Leo got him as a foal, when the boy was only five.
"Hi. buddy," Leo said stroking Copper's nose, "So Copper, I got some bad news. Mama says we're moving away to a different city. I don't want to move, but she says that it's for the best. I wish we didn't have to leave."
Leo gave Copper an apple, which the young horse happily munched on. The young boy then hugged the colt. "I'm going to miss you so much. But Mom did say that the groom will take good care of you and Artemis until we can send for you, I hope it will be soon. I've got to go now. Good bye Copper, I'll miss you."
Leo gave Copper another apple before he left, he also stopped by Artemis's stall and gave his mom's horse some apple too. "I'll miss you too Artemis." And then Leo walked out of the stable.
Later when it was dark, Leo was walking out of the house with Sofia and one of the men put their suitcases in the car.
"Alright let's go," Sofia said, and they both got in the car.
As they were riding, Leo was sadly looking out the window, while holding onto Romeo. He was going to miss Miami and everything in it. As he was starting to see less of Miami, Leo sighed sadly.
Sofia gently but firmly grabbed her son's chin to make him look at her, and she smiled at Leo and said gently, "It'll be okay Leo. We are heading to a new life, a life where we'll be happy and free."
"Yes Mom," Leo said.
"But I need you to promise me that you'll be a good boy. Can you do that?" Sofia asked.
Leo replied, "Okay, I promise."
"That's my boy." Sofia smiled and put an arm around Leo.
Some people say that horses fully mature when they are three or four and others say it's one year. I'm not always sure about that. But anyway next chapter, they arrive in Gotham.
