Millie hid inside a janitor's closet, cracking the door to peek outside and see four guards with batons searching for her. For some reason, she can't remember why she was here to begin with, who her target was, and where Blitz and Moxxie were. But it didn't matter right now, she would have to kill these goons first before she could find the answers to those questions.
Millie kicked down the door, taking the guards by shock. With the element of surprise by her side, she pulled out her machete and sliced the nearest guard's kneecaps which caused him to fall to his knees. Millie stabbed him between the eyes before the other guy on her right tried to use an overhead strike with his baton, which Millie blocked. She then pushed him away and stabbed him in the abdomen 3 times.
Turning around, Millie saw the last two goons with their batons up, visibly shaking in fear of what was in front of them. She grinned before jumping on the nearest guard and slitting his throat. The last man had enough and tried to run away, but Millie simply threw her machete at his head, killing him instantly.
The murderous imp looked at the dead bodies around her, admiring her work. Before she could do anything else though, a loud bang went off, and she felt something go through her chest. Looking down, she noticed her hands were covered in her own blood and a bullet hole in her chest. It was clear that someone shot her, but she somehow didn't feel any pain.
A guard with a pistol walked out of the shadows in front of her, pointing it at her. Millie wanted to run, but she just stood there in pure terror. She would die here, and there was nothing she could do.
And before she knew it, the guard fired again.
Millie jolted up from her bed in a cold sweat, slowly realizing that she was still in her apartment in Imp City. Thank Satan it was all just a dream, she thought to herself. Yesterday was her first day on the job and it was a wild one, going up against a group of armed mercenaries with nothing but a battle axe and wrathian bloodlust. Millie never thought about it too much until last night when Blitz brought it up over drinks.
"That was batshit insane what you did back there, Mils!" Blitz said, "When I saw you charge in there I thought I was gonna be wrong about you and end up seeing you filled with holes! I mean, you were this close to having your brains or guts or whatever splattered everywhere. I guess it's a good thing those mercs had shitty aim, right Mox?"
That's when Millie realized how lucky she was to survive that encounter. Guns weren't the weapons of Wrath imps. Everyone there fought with their fists or the weapon they had on them, usually a knife or a club. This was Millie's first time fighting people who didn't follow the wrathian ways.
Millie pondered this as she got up and dressed in her usual outfit. She should've been excited to go on another hit, but now she was scared. What if that dream was a premonition of what is to come? What if she wasn't as lucky as before? The moment she realized how she felt, she slapped herself in the face.
"Snap out of it, Millie!" She said to herself. "You're a wrath imp, an ass-kicking machine! Nothing's gonna kill ya!" Now that Millie was prepped, she left her apartment and headed to work.
However, on the way there the fear slowly seeped back in.
Millie took a deep breath before opening the door to the I.M.P office. As she entered she noticed the secretary, Loona, at her desk browsing her phone. And in front of her was the desk of her coworker, Moxxie. He sat there with a white bag and a teacup on his desk, doing some paperwork before he looked up and noticed her. He gave a smile as he stood up from his chair, picked up the cup, and approached her.
"Good Morning, Millie!" He said, "How are you doing?"
"I'm fine," Millie replied, trying her best to look like nothing was bugging her. However, Moxxie could see right through it, as he had been in her hooves before.
"Well, even if that's the case I want you to have this." Moxxie handed her the tea. "Try some, it'll help you relax."
Millie wasn't sure of that but decided to humor him as she took a sip of the tea. The moment she did, the sweet taste overtook her, removing all the tenseness she had on the way here. "Mmmmmm," She said, "This is good!"
"I'm glad you like it, I made it myself."
Millie was shocked, "Really!?"
"Indeed. I made it for you, actually. When Blitz was going on about you almost dying yesterday, I noticed how it got to you. I know how that feels, I remember my first gunfight. Let's just say I jumped every time I heard a loud noise for about two weeks, and I grew up around guns." Millie didn't know what to say. After all, nobody had ever made her tea before, especially to help her relax. If this was wrath and she brought up any of the stuff she was feeling, she would've just been told to suck it up or something along those lines.
Eventually, she thought of something, "Why would ya make this for me?"
"Well, because you're my friend. I care about you." Moxxie replied.
Now Millie was even more shocked. "You don't want anything from me?"
Moxxie gave a smile, "Just for you to be welcome."
The more she learned about Moxxie, the more she felt this imp was special. Before they could continue their conversation, the door opened, revealing Blitz walking into the office. He gave his daughter a hug, annoying Loona, and approached Moxxie. "Alright, Mox, did you get my lunch?" Blitz said.
"Yes, sir," Moxxie said as he reached into the white bag on his desk and pulled out a chalupa before handing it to Blitz.
"Oh thank Satan, I'm starvi-" Blitz stopped to look at his food. "Moxxie, what the fuck is this?" He said as he showed him the chalupa.
Moxxie examined it and soon realized the problem. "... beans," he said with his head down.
"And what did I say to get?"
"Fries and a chalupa with no beans."
"And yet you got me one with beans!" Blitz yelled, "You know what beans do to me right!?"
"They make you shit uncontrollably."
"They make me shit uncontrollably! So why the fuck does this have beans in it!?"
"I forgot to specify it in the order, I'm sorry."
"You better be fucking sorry! You almost made me spend the entire workday in the bathroom! Lucifer Morningstar, Mox, are you good at anything besides shooting!?" Moxxie still held his head down in shame, while Millie was slowly being filled with anger at how her friend was being treated. After Blitz threw the chalupa on the desk, he looked into the bag and pulled out the fries. "At least you got the fries, not that it's any better," he said before walking towards his office.
Millie's anger reached the tipping point, so she picked up the chalupa and threw it at Blitz's back. "Who just assaulted me with a chalupa!?" He shouted as he turned around.
"I did!" Millie called back, "Quit treatin' Moxxie like crap!"
"Well, he fucked up my order so I have a right to be pissed off at him!"
"Why don't you get the food yourself then since ya care so much!?"
"Because he lives close to the Mexican place, so it's convenient!"
"He's not your fucking delivery boy! Give him more respect!"
"What the hell's wrong with you, you on your period or something!?"
"Oh, you did NOT just say that!"
"I did, and it's pissing you off so I got what I wanted."
"In wrath, we follow our shit talking up with our fists!"
"I'd love to shut that mouth of yours, Mils, but I have fries to-" in the blink of an eye, Millie knocked the fries out of his hand, making them fall all over the floor. Blitz was stunned as he looked at the mess, then returned his attention to Millie with fury in his eyes. "Oh, you mud-bathing bitch!"
Blitz threw a punch at her, but Millie ducked in time to dodge it and returned the favor with an uppercut square in the jaw. While Blitz was disoriented, Millie jumped onto Blitz and gave him a headbutt. The two fought each other throughout every point in the room, punching and scratching each other as they did. At one point Millie slammed Blitz's head on a desk and at another Blitz stabbed her in her left arm with a pen. Moxxie was so flabbergasted that he wasn't sure what to do, as there seemed to be no way to stop these two once they set their mind to something. On the other hand, Loona was having a great time watching the chaos ensue as she filmed it on her phone.
However, all good things must come to an end. The door to the I.M.P office opened, revealing a sinner with a biker's uniform, sunglasses, and a red headscarf. Millie and Blitz had their arms around each other's throats before they noticed the potential customers walk in, ending their fight abruptly.
"Hello!" Blitz said in a friendly tone, "Welcome to I.M.P! Would you like to place a hit!?"
"Yeah," said the biker, confused about what he just saw. "But if you're in the middle of somethin' I can wait outside."
"No no, it's fine! We were just having a minor disagreement, nothing to be worried about. Now step into my office and we'll discuss the hit in detail." Blitz led the sinner into his office and shut the door. Soon after that Moxxie approached Millie.
"Are you ok?" Moxxie asked as he looked at where Blitz stabbed her.
"I'm alright, just a scratch," Millie said, slowly calming down. "Why do you let him treat ya like that?"
"You get used to it after a while. But even so, you did that for me?"
"You bet I did! We're friends aren't we?"
Moxxie gave another smile, "You're right, it's just that nobody's stood up for me like that before. Part of me wishes you didn't do that, but another wants to thank you for it."
Shortly after their brief conversation, Blitz exited his office. "Alright, we're killing a biker gang!" Blitz announced before approaching Millie. "Listen here, you little shit, you're on thin ice right now. The only reason you're not fired is because you're good at your job. So I'll pretend your disrespect never happened." He put his face close to Millie, staring her down as she was doing the same with him. "But if you ever pull that shit again you better hope to Satan I just fire you and nothing more. Are we clear?"
Millie was extremely tempted to spit in Blitz's face, but as she glanced at Moxxie, he motioned her to go along with it for his sake. "Fine." She said reluctantly.
"Good. Now get ready."
As the I.M.P crew entered the portal to Earth, they found themselves on a road in the middle of another desert. On the side of this road was a small gray building with graffiti. Above the doorway was a yellow neon sign that read "Rider's Rejoice," clarifying that this was a bar.
Not just any bar though, this was the place all their targets were gathered, the client's rival gang who killed him. "Man, I'm feeling nostalgic," Blitz whispered as they snuck around the right side of the bar to the back. "Wiping out a gang was my first job before I hired you guys. It's how I got these scars."
"So what?" Millie said dismissively, "I went through worse than that and you don't see me with a fuckton of scars."
Blitz stopped before going around the corner to face Millie with anger on his face. Moxxie was prepared to break up a fight between these two, but thankfully the backdoor of the bar opened, causing them to refocus on the mission. They hid behind the wall before the corner as they saw who came out. A man in a biker vest holding a trash bag walked to the dumpster to the right of the door, opposite where Blitz and the rest were hiding. Moxxie readied his silenced pistol as the man dumped the trash inside the dumpster, after which he shot him through the side of his head, killing him instantly.
Blitz opened the backdoor and peeked inside. He saw a hallway that opened up to the main bar proper to the left, but what got his attention was an opened door in front of him that led into the bathroom. On the right side of the bathroom were 4 urinals, one of which was occupied by a biker, as well as a single stall at the end. Blitz opened his door gently before sneaking into the building and up to the man taking a piss.
The imp jumped on his back as he pulled out his knife and stabbed him in the neck, causing him to fall back to the ground, but not before Blitz grabbed him and gently put him down to not make any noise. Millie and Moxxie were already close behind when they heard a flush coming from the stall. Shortly after, another biker walked out and saw Blitz over the body of his dead friend.
Millie was very tempted to just let the biker and Blitz fight it out, as it would've been hilarious for her to see that asshole of a boss's fuckup bite him in the ass. However, this man would no doubt alert the rest of the bikers in this building, so she reluctantly pulled out her knife and threw it right between his eyes before he could take any action, killing him instantly. There didn't appear to be anyone else close by, so they just let him fall to the ground.
"Huh," Blitz said looking back at Millie. "That's the only good thing you've done today." Millie fought the urge to punch him in the gut as she went to retrieve her knife from the biker's skull. Blitz left the bathroom and before Millie could join him, she noticed that the man Blitz had killed had a holstered pistol around his waist. This meant that these men were armed, which gave her a sense of dread, reminding Millie of her dream.
She stood there wondering if her luck from the last mission was still with her. What if someone got a shot at her? All it took was a bullet to the head or at least a barrage of them to kill an imp, would this be where she died? Millie's thoughts went wild before Moxxie tapped on her shoulder.
"Are you ok?" Moxxie asked, breaking her out of her fear-induced trance.
"I-I'm fine," Millie replied, putting on another brave face. Moxxie looked in the direction she was facing and noticed the pistol holster, making it clear to him what was bugging her.
"Are you scared?" Moxxie said.
Millie was taken aback by that question. She wanted to say that everything was good and that she wasn't terrified of death. But by looking at him, Moxxie seemed to know something was up. "A little," she said.
"Don't worry," Moxxie replied with that same welcoming smile as he put his arm on her shoulder. "I've got your back. I'll make sure no one gets a shot at you." Seeing that smile of his, combined with the comforting arm on her shoulder, made her heart skip a beat. Somehow this interest she had in Moxxie had grown into something much more. Before she could figure out what that was, however, Blitz peaked his head back into the bathroom.
"You two done making out in here?" Blitz asked. "Then let's go."
The imps snuck through the small hallway and peeked around the corner into the main bar area. There were 5 people in here. Two of them were occupying one of the pool tables on the left side, while the other two were sitting at the bar on the right side. The last one appeared to be the bartender.
"Alright, let's kill these bitches." Blitz said, about to run in and cause havoc. But before he could, Millie grabbed him by the arm and pulled him back.
"What are ya doin'!?" Millie whispered.
Blitz pulled his arm out of her grip. "My job, what the fuck does it look like?"
"We can't just go chargin' in, they've got guns."
"So? Yesterday you went berserk on heavily armed mercs. What's so different about this time?"
"I just don't want anyone to get a lucky shot."
"Y'know, Mils, I'm getting sick and tired of your attitude today."
Sensing a fight, Moxxie tried to break it up before it could start. "Sir, maybe she has a point. We should-"
"Zip it, Moxxie!" Blitz shouted.
"Don't talk to him like that!" Millie shouted back.
"I'm the boss, so I get to treat my employees how I want! I don't know how they do it in Wrath, sweetie, but here I'm in charge and your strength means jack shit!"
"Well, you're a shit boss from what I've seen! You let others do the hard work and shit-talk them even if they do it right!"
"When did you become Mox's personal dicksucker?"
"I just appreciate good work, unlike you who's just an asshole that wants to bully people!"
"Millie, I swear to Satan, the more you talk the more I wanna fire your ass!"
"GUYS!" Moxxie shouted.
"What!?" Blitz replied. Moxxie pointed in the bar's direction. All the bikers had stopped what they were doing to see what l the screaming they heard was about. Now they were standing in front of the I.M.P crew, wondering what the hell they were looking at.
"Why didn't you warn me they were here?" Blitz whispered to Moxxie as they kept eye contact with the bikers.
"I did, multiple times," Moxxie replied.
One biker snapped out of their shock and pulled out their gun. Thankfully, Biltz pulled out his pistol and shot at the man first, hitting him twice in the chest and killing him. This caused the other men to retreat, two hiding behind the pool table they played at and the other hiding behind a second one closest to the imps.
As soon as the single man peaked his head out, Blitz shot him clear through the head before the crew advanced toward the table to use it as cover as the other two men shot at them. Blitz and Moxxie returned fire but so far neither could get a hit on each other. Millie took deep breaths before peeking out from cover, locating their targets. Then, with all her courage, she charged over to them as soon as they stopped shooting, jumping onto the pool table and stabbing one of them in the head.
Millie smiled as she saw her victim fall to the floor, proud of what she accomplished. That would soon be replaced with fear as she heard the click of a gun. In her excitement, she forgot about the other biker now pointing a gun at her. But before she knew it another gunshot went off and his head exploded into tiny bits of brain matter. Looking to where the sound came from, she saw Moxxie standing on top of the bar aiming his gun at the now dead biker, smoke still coming from the muzzle.
Moxxie gave a smile at her, which she couldn't resist returning with her own. Just then, the bartender rose from behind the bar with a baseball bat and struck the unaware Moxxie in the back of the head, knocking him out as he dropped onto the floor.
"Moxxie!" She shouted with worry, which soon turned into anger as her gaze turned to the bartender. She then screamed as she charged at him, startling the bartender so much that he didn't have enough time to react as Millie jumped on him and stabbed him through the throat. Even though he fell to the ground dead, Millie continued to penetrate him repeatedly until she calmed down, and at that point, she was covered in blood.
When she returned to Moxxie's side, Blitz was there looking over him. "Don't worry, he isn't dead," Blitz said, which made Millie give a sigh of relief. "But he's gonna have a bitch of a headache thanks to you."
Millie rolled her eyes, "Maybe if ya weren't so dead set on doing this your way, we wouldn't be in a gunfight."
"I'm sorry, besides the one yesterday, how many gunfights have you been in? Exactly, you don't know shit. And thanks to you, you almost got yourself and Moxxie killed."
"Oh, ya care about him now?"
"Of course, I care about him!"
"Why!? All you do is bully him even when he does what he's told!"
"Because…"
"Because what!?"
"BECAUSE HE WAS THERE WHEN NO ONE ELSE WOULD BE!"
"... What do ya mean?" Millie said, shocked.
Blitz paced back and forth. "Do you know what it's like to start up a business in Pride as an imp, Mils? It's shitty, now imagine starting one where you go up to Earth and kill humans? You'd think that demons would've been lining up at a chance like that, but nope! I plastered all the posters I had around Imp Town and even bought an ad in the paper, but nobody wants to work at an imp-run company that isn't Smithson Industries!"
Blitz stopped as he calmed down, "A week went by with no one coming in to apply. I was just about to give up, thinking I had to do this solo. But then he came in asking about my job opening. Satan, I wish I could see the look on my face, I almost hired him on the spot. Am I hard on him? Yes. Do I go too far? Maybe. But it's only because I know he can handle it and I want him to get better. That's how much I care for him, I'd even go far as to say he's my best friend."
Blitz sat down at the bar while Millie tried to figure out how to respond. Eventually, she decided to do what Blitz did, tell the truth. "I was scared." She said.
"Huh?" Blitz turned around to face her.
"Of dying. I ain't been scared of it until now. Especially now that we're dealing with humans who can end ya life with a pull of a trigger. It didn't hit me until last night after our job when ya went off about how lucky I was. Even had a nightmare where somebody shot me, and it scared me shitless. Satan, I'm glad my parents aren't here to see me like this."
Blitz looked away and then closed his eyes. He then made some weird grunting noises before slamming his hand on the bar twice. Millie, confused, wondered if he got constipated or something, the truth was that he felt the same way she did once before and was fighting with himself loudly about whether or not he should console her.
He then let out a loud sigh before patting on the chair stool next to him. "Have a seat, Mils," he said before Millie did just that. "I told you how I got my scars right?"
"Somethin' bout' a gang?" She replied.
"Yep, my first-ever gig was just like this, some guys from a gang wanted to see a few of their rivals offed. It wasn't bikers though, it was just your typical street thugs who hung out around the front of a gas station, 5 of them I think. Had it all planned out too, I snuck in through the back of the store and shot at one fucker through the window. But then some bastard got a shot at me and hit my shoulder, which made my aim shitty. Next thing you know I'm out of bullets. At that moment I shit my pants thinking I was going to die."
Blitz took a deep breath before continuing, "Thankfully, the store owner kept a pistol behind the counter that was loaded, so I took it and continued blasting. Then I hit one of the gas tanks and kaboom. By the time I dragged myself outta that burning building, I was bleeding from every part of my body thanks to the debris that fell on me. Was out of commission for a week."
"And that's how you got those scars?" Millie finally said.
"You bet. And that's when I realized this wasn't something I could do alone. Nowadays I can do this shit by myself with my eyes closed, but back then I needed someone to watch my back. Which is how I started I.M.P." Blitz gave Millie a reassuring smile. "So the next time you worry about stuff like that, just remember that you're not alone, and we've got your back."
Him saying that made Millie remember how she got through the first job, aside from the adrenaline rush. It was because someone like Moxxie had her back so she could focus on her front. Knowing that made all her fears wash away. "Thanks for that." She said.
"Don't get used to it. The only reason I said that was because I know what it's like to be scared of dying. Also, don't tell Mox about any of this ok, especially the best friend part. I don't want it getting to his head."
Millie grinned, "Oh I will, only if you lay off on him once in a while."
"That's gonna be hard to do, but I'll try my best to cut him some slack."
"That's all I ask."
"Now, let's see what they got here." Blitz leaped over the counter to look at the drinks on display. As he did that, Millie heard a groan behind her. To her excitement, it was Moxxie waking up from his head injury.
"Hey, Mox!" She said as she went over to help him up. "Ya doin' ok?"
Moxxie was trying to adjust to his surroundings, "I… what happened?"
"I'll talk about it later." Millie led Moxxie to the stool Blitz sat on and lifted him up onto it before sitting down herself. Blitz then put three glass cups on the counter, two of them having blood stains on them, before pouring drinks into each one.
"Look who decided to join us," Blitz said as he handed out the blood-stained cups t each of his employees. "Oh, and before I forget Mox, from now on I'll get my own lunch, you signed up for killing humans, not picking up my food." He then gave a wink to Millie, who replied with a smirk.
"Oh, um… ok," Moxxie replied, still confused as to what was going on, but he was thankful that he didn't have to pick up Mexican food again. Everyone then picked up their drinks before Blitz made a toast.
"To another successful hit." He said before everyone took their shot.
