Hashirama had returned Naruto to his apartment and escorted the two Akatsuki members to someone named Jiraiya. Hashirama was a little uncomfortable with the woman overhearing his conversation about Madara.
No one understood his feelings except for Tobirama, and it was always "You can't love an Uchiha, she'll kill you in your sleep," or "Father would be turning in his grave if he knew," and the one he hated most was "Don't you remember what they did to our brothers? It's against both Senju and Uchiha traditions."
Hashirama wished he had someone during his life who would've given him advice that wasn't tainted by war, but at that time it was impossible.
From what Hashirama knew, Jiraiya would be at the bathhouse or in the Hokage's office. It surprised him that those were the only places he'd be at, "Each to their own I suppose," Hashirama thought.
To no one's surprise Jiraiya was at the bathhouse, Hashirama had to tap on Jiraiya's shoulder as the man had been peeping.
"Oh Lord first, you almost gave me a heart attack. I thought you were Tsunade." Jiraiya said.
"Why would Tsuna scare you?" Hashirama said as he rubbed his temple.
"Well you see, I'm researching for my books and Tsunade hates it when I do research."
Hashirama was just as confused until Jiraiya saw Konan and the orange-haired man, he walked past Hashirama and hugged the two.
"Konan, you've grown into a lovely young woman," Jiraiya said. He turned his head to look at the orange-haired man and he looked concerned, "Yahiko, why do you have the Rinnegan?"
"I'm not Yahiko, I am Pain in this form. But I suggest we speak somewhere more private." Pain said to Jiraiya.
Hashirama hadn't realized it but Pain did have the Rinnegan, but the last person to have it was the sage of six paths.
Jiraiya and Hashirama followed Konan and Pain to a huge tree made of paper, once they made their way inside Hashirama saw a man with red hair. Hashirama knew he must've been an Uzumaki, his body was disfigured.
"Nagato?! What happened to you?" Jiraiya said as he saw the disfigured man.
"A lot has happened since we last met, Master Jiraiya. But the reason I wanted to speak with you... And the mokotun user, is about Madara Uchiha."
Jiraiya felt a shiver go down his spine whilst Hashirama was listening, more interested.
"So have you met the masked one or the reanimated one?" Hashirama asked.
"The masked one as you call her is called Tobi, but she doesn't wear her mask anymore, not since the real Madara appeared and took over."
"So you have met her," Hashirama remembered how controlling Madara was.
"I fear I don't trust her, she's so strong that she could defeat the entire Akatsuki blind, and she terrifies me," Nagato said.
Hashirama gave a sheepish laugh, if anyone knew how scary she could be it was him. Jiraiya rubbed his chin while thinking, "You can't do anything to kill her as she's an Edo Tensei, and you can't seal her either since she could easily break free..."
"Master Jiraiya, I'm striving for worldpeace but I think Madara will betray me or even worse, kill me." Nagato didn't trust Madara at all.
"It may be dangerous but I think you should wait until she reveals her true motive," Jiraiya said.
"What is your plan for world peace?" Hashirama asked.
"Tobi approached me under the alias Madara many years ago, offered me the plan to end the cycle of pain by sealing the tailed beasts into a special statue and using it to return the world to a more primitive era. I think Tobi met Madara long ago to enact this plan, cause she not only gives me orders but Tobi as well." Nagato explained.
Hashirama knew it would have been impossible for her to meet and train someone to complete a plan before she died, but he started to think about the many abilities of the Sharingan. He learned from Tobirama about the Sharingan abilities, the Mangekyou Sharingan was unique to each Uchiha but overuse of the Mangekyou would result in total blindness, Madara's Mangekyou ability was rewinding time and it caught Hashirama off guard many times. The eternal Mangekyou was obtained from taking a family member's Sharingan, it removed the negative effects from the Mangekyou and changes its shape. Then there are Izanagi and Izanami, Izanagi can rewrite reality with the cost of one Sharingan, to counter Izanagi, Izanami was created. Izanami can trap someone no matter how strong they are by creating three key events and then casting Izanami, it also costs a Sharingan.
Hashirama now understood that Madara had used Izanagi to survive, Hashirama spoke up "If what you say is true then Madara used Izanagi and trained an apprentice to complete this plan."
Neither Jiraiya nor Nagato knew what he meant but still trusted him as he knew the most about Madara.
"Madara also wants me to revive her using a special jutsu named Rinne rebirth, I know as soon as I do she'll have no use for me," Nagato said.
"Then stall as long as possible until we are certain we can defeat Madara, but I should let you know that I'm leaving Konoha for three years soon," Jiraiya said.
"If you are unable to find a way to defeat her, then I'll be forced to revive her, and then no one will be able to stop her," Nagato said as he, the vessel called Pain, and Konan left to their home.
Jiraiya turned to Hashirama, "What do you think we can do to stop Madara Uchiha?"
Hashirama hesitated before he answered, "I know of two ways to defeat her, we could wait for Madara to be revived and have Itachi or Sasuke use Izanami to trap her in Izanami until she changes her way."
"I may not understand what Izanami is, but I assume you need a Sharingan to use it. But if there's a second option then why don't we try that?" Jiraiya said.
Hashirama looked down, "I don't like the other one, cause I'll have to fight her and someone will have to seal her. She deserves a second chance but I fear she won't listen to reason."
Jiraiya could tell that Hashirama still cared for his old friend, "Sometimes we don't have a choice in what happens. You said it yourself, I shall not tolerate anyone who threatens my village."
Hashirama hated that his own words were being used against him, he said it during the first five kage summit, a month after his fight with Madara.
Hashirama wanted to give the tailed beasts to each village, but Hashirama kept the nine tails. The first Kazekage threatened war on the hidden leaf if he were to give tailed beasts to the hidden stone village.
Hashirama used a little bit of his chakra pressure. "I shall not tolerate anyone who threatens my village." He said as it broke the table and terrified the other kage, they vowed to never start a war. This was later broken after Hashirama died.
"I may have said those words but that was a lifetime ago," Hashirama said.
"One way or another you'll have to confront her, it's your destiny," Jiraiya said.
"If I do kill her I'm only proving her right, she wants to end the cycle of hatred and I do too but there is no easy solution." Jiraiya closed his eyes before he spoke, "Long ago I was told of a prophecy, it was about a child of peace or ruin. The great sage toad said he saw a vision of the child of prophecy with another person battling a woman, the description was the child's eyes were brimming with love. Now I can say I think you might be said child of prophecy, but do you love anyone to be brimming with it?"
Hashirama didn't answer, instead, he chose to be silent. If he was this prophecy would he truly know what to do? Hashirama always doubted himself and that's what always held him back in life. Jiraiya began speaking, "I'm going to take Naruto on a journey outside the village for three years, I would like you to give me an answer then."
Hashirama sighed as Jiraiya walked away, he needed time to think.
Hashirama started walking to the place where it all began, the valley of the end. He was never alive to see the statues of himself and Madara. Her statue had a smile and it was just as beautiful as the real one, it reminded him of the only Halloween he was able to enjoy with Madara.
It was after the Uzumaki asked for Madara's hand in marriage. Everyone was celebrating, even Tobirama the stickler, all except for the Uchiha clan leader.
Hashirama was always worried that Madara would succumb to her depression and take her own life, he knocked on her door in a werewolf costume. Madara opened the door in her usual indigo shirt and pants, made an audible sound of disappointment, "What do you want Hashirama?"
Hashirama could tell she was irritated but being the fool he was said, "I was wondering why the Uchiha clan leader wasn't making an appearance at the Halloween festival."
"I was planning on spending it alone," she said disinterestedly.
"Oh don't be like that Mara, no one should be alone on a holiday," Hashirama replied.
Madara knowing Hashirama was ever persistent said, "Fine I will attend, but do not expect me to wear a costume."
Hashirama walked with Madara around the village watching the young children not worrying about war or death, this was why they created the village. Hashirama saw a vampire costume in one of the village stores, Hashirama thought about how Madara would look with the cloak.
Madara noticing the costume too walked inside to examine it, "I know what you are going to say, and I did say I would not. However, this is an exception because it is not ridiculous. But you are going to buy it for me." Madara said without looking at him.
Hashirama sighed as he pulled out his leather wallet, he may have been the Hokage and former leader to the Senju but he still only carried enough money for a week's worth of food. He gave the shopkeeper almost all of his money for the single cloak, Madara flaunted her vampire cloak as they continued walking
Hashirama and Madara stumbled upon the village square, Hashirama didn't know there was going to be a Halloween dance. Madara was uncomfortable with all the touchy-feely things happening around her, Hashirama noticed and said, "What's wrong? Haven't you danced before?"
Madara looked down, "I never had the chance to, being the sole daughter of the leader and all"
Hashirama asked, "Well why don't we try? I mean it's similar to what we do in battle. You call them dances as well."
Madara was dumbstruck, never had she been so off guard with something in her life. Madara looked down, "Why not."
Hashirama and Madara were dancing quite fast to go along with the music, Madara felt normal for the first time since she threw rocks with Hashirama as children. When the music slowed down to be more intimate, Madara had a huge blush as she held onto Hashirama's shoulders. They were staring deeply into each other's eyes, it was a dream come true for Hashirama.
Unfortunately, Tobirama saw them dancing and asked for the music to be faster-paced as to discourage the slow dance, Madara had noticed the change in speed and let go of Hashirama. Hashirama fell more in love with the woman, both looked away not knowing what to do.
They figured that going to the Izakaya would be better than the crowded village square. Uchihas rarely drank and when they did it was minuscule, Senjus on the other hand drank alcohol like it was water. When they sat at the bar, Madara ordered only one glass, while Hashirama ordered three bottles.
Hashirama noticed a poker table in the corner of the room, Madara tried her best to stop Hashirama from gambling. But he was determined, and he was losing what was left in his wallet. Madara laughed at how bad he was, Hashirama went into his depressive state when he lost everything.
Hashirama walked Madara home, he would never forget how happy Madara looked that night. When he attempted to return home he fell quite a lot, Hashirama was quite drunk. He was lucky that Tobirama found him, Tobirama tried scolding him when Hashirama fell asleep in his arms. Tobirama carried him back to their home and put him in his bed, Tobirama hated how often Hashirama would get drunk.
Hashirama noticed there were no trees, no grass, and no flowers near either statue, he felt like he should liven up Madara's side with the same flowers he gave her as a kid.
Hashirama was thirteen and had been seeing Madara more and more frequently, and Hashirama already had a crush on her.
Hashirama felt his heart stop when he saw her swimming in her bathing suit, Madara hadn't sensed him yet so he watched her for a little while. He felt so guilty afterward he thought to bring her flowers, however, he didn't see any around himself. So he tried creating flowers that reminded him of Madara, he created red spider lily's daffodils and baby blue eyes.
He approached Madara with the flowers in hand, she didn't understand why he was holding flowers.
"Madara, will you please take these flowers?" Hashirama said nervously. Madara looked like she didn't quite understand what he was doing but took the red spider lily's, "Thank you Hashirama, but you know I do not like flowers right?" She said as she put a flower in her hair.
"I uhh... well I... I was watching you swim from a distance and I wanted to give you these flowers as an apology." Hashirama said with a huge blush.
Madara hit him in the shoulder and said, "You should not be a pervert you know, us girls like our privacy."
Hashirama thought she looked even more pretty with the flower in her hair, "I wasn't trying to be a pervert, I just saw you swimming and got nervous." Hashirama replied.
"There is no need to be nervous, we are just friends," Madara said. And caused Hashirama to desperately want more.
Hashirama sprouted a whole garden of red spider lily next to Madara's statue, Hashirama didn't need to eat or sleep because he was dead so he decided to come here whenever he had free time.
Naruto said his goodbyes to everyone and left the village with Jiraiya, Hiruzen wanted to step down as Hokage and Hashirama to be the current Hokage but Hashirama declined.
Sasuke trained with both Kakashi and Itachi, Itachi told Kakashi about everything he knew about the Sharingan. Kakashi could tell Itachi was hiding something from him but didn't delve into it.
Sakura started training under Tsunade, learning medical ninjutsu. Might Guy started dating Anko, it didn't last long with all his youth nonsense.
Danzo was making plans to overthrow Hiruzen and become the sixth Hokage, but Itachi made sure he couldn't by casting him in Tsukuyomi. Danzo was then captured and imprisoned.
And Hashirama stayed in the valley of the end, until someone needed his help, he felt both useless and helpful at the same time. If it wasn't for Madara trying to destroy the world then he would have surely asked for someone to seal him away.
There was a day Hashirama wandered into the village, he'd wanted to spend some time with his nephew. Hashirama found Kakashi at the home of Itachi and Sasuke, he'd been training with them.
Itachi blocked a kick from Sasuke and dodged a kunai she'd thrown, Kakashi was sitting on the patio, watching the siblings fight when Hashirama arrived. "It seems someone isn't slacking on their training," The first Hokage said, sitting next to the silver haired man.
"Well I am one of four people with a Sharingan, I don't want to waste it." He replied, "And also I only have one student willing to train with me."
Hashirama watched the two Uchiha siblings train with each other and didn't stop until Sasuke was breathing heavily, "Let's take a break Sasuke, we have another visitor." Itachi said.
"Fine, but don't think you won just yet, older brother." She replied as she sat down next to her sensei.
There was something about Sasuke that was bothering Hashirama, she had this familiar look that he couldn't quite place. The first thought was that she reminded him of Madara but that wasn't true at all, sure she had Uchiha pride but Madara was more than just that.
"Lord first, what brings you here?" Itachi asked, sitting next to him.
"Oh I came to spend some time with my nephew, I'm sorry to have bothered you."
"No it's no problem, you were my idol growing up. But maybe you could spar with Kakashi and me, I'd say that's more than fair."
Hashirama barely sparred or trained and he didn't know how much he could hold back, "Kakashi, are you up for it?"
"I suppose it's a good chance to go all out on someone is a good change of pace."
"All out?!" Hashirama questioned.
"Well yeah, you're a reanimation so I don't need to hold back."
Hashirama was a little nervous as he expected a nice friendly sparring session, not two wielders of Mangekyou Sharingans. Both Kakashi and Itachi walked out into the edge of the backyard, "Anytime now, uncle." Kakashi said uncovering his Sharingan. Itachi turned his eyes to the Mangekyou, he knew the risks of overuse of the Mangekyou but this was a once in a lifetime opportunity that he wouldn't pass up on.
"Alright I'm coming," he turned to watch the smile on Sasuke's face of such a fight, "Good luck, Lord first." She said. Hashirama sighed going into a defensive stance, he was not prepared for the first attack to be a crow. He swatted it away and dodged an attack from Kakashi, "I thought you were smarter, nephew." Hashirama said pinning him to the ground.
"I am, there just needed to be a distraction." Hashirama widened his eyes as he was electrocuted by Kakashi's clone, half of Hashirama's body was smashed into a paper cloud. Itachi had used his Susanoo to smash Hashirama and the lightning style clone, but Hashirama substituted with a wood clone.
"Impressive, it seems I might actually enjoy this." Hashirama said sprouting wooden beams around Kakashi and Itachi.
Itachi shot amaterasu at Hashirama which he reacted by using a wood clone as a shield, Kakashi created a clone and ran a lightning cable through the wooden beams. Hashirama tried restraining Kakashi with a wood style: silent strangle jutsu, Itachi blocked the attack with his Susanoo.
Kakashi was gunning straight for Hashirama, Itachi used his yasaka beads to force Hashirama to block or dodge. Hashirama blocked it using a rashomon gate. Kakashi then cast the hand signs for the hidden mist jutsu, obscuring Hashirama's vision and hearing. It was hard to even sense through the fog since the fog was just laced with Kakashi's chakra.
Kakashi sprouted out with a lightning blade through the back of Hashirama's chest. Itachi took advantage and cast a jutsu, "Fire style: phoenix scarlet claw." It lit four shuriken on fire and hit Hashirama directly after Kakashi moved. To add insult to injury Kakashi put Hashirama into a water prison, "I want to say you lost, uncle." Kakashi teased.
Hashirama laughed loudly, "I suppose so. Your teamwork was stellar, it reminds me of mine and Tobi's teamwork."
Kakashi disabled the water prison and covered his Sharingan and Itachi deactivated his Sharingan, "Strategy is everything. But it was still just a spar, you would destroy us in a real battle, Lord first." Itachi said.
Sasuke laughed on the side, "I can't believe the god of Shinobi lost to my brother and sensei, does that mean they're gods of Shinobi?"
Hashirama laughed nervously, "Are they giving that title to anyone nowadays?"
Hashirama not knowing what to do wanted to talk to his grandniece, he walked into the apartment building she was renting and knocked on her door. There was no answer, Hashirama then knocked again, and still no answer. Hashirama thought to himself where would she be if she wasn't home, but he didn't need to, the owner of the building walked by and bowed to him, "Lord first! I wasn't expecting you to be here of all places, can I help you with anything?"
"Yes, actually. I'm trying to find Tsuna, do you know where she is?"
The landlord chuckled, "Oh she'll be anywhere there's drinks and gambling involved." He then leaned in closer, "I think she's got an addiction."
Hashirama laughed, "Well that makes two of us. Thank you." Hashirama waved to the landlord as he left.
Hashirama searched three different establishments before finding Tsunade with her pupil Shizune drinking sake and booze. Oh, how Hashirama wished he could be alive again to just get blackout drunk, but this was no time to think of that, he had a niece to mingle with.
Shizune saw Hashirama approach their table, "Lady Tsunade! Your grandfather is coming."
Tsunade was what one might call wasted or trashed, she didn't even make words come out of her mouth, just unintelligible sounds.
Hashirama walked up to their table and sat down next to Shizune, "So, I'm not sure we've met before. I'm Hashirama Senju." He placed his hand for Shizune to shake, Shizune was almost starstruck at meeting such a legend but a historic figure. She shook his hand energetically, "I know, you're the first Hokage. It's a pleasure to meet you, I'm Shizune. Lady Tsunade's student."
Hashirama was surprised by how excited the girl seemed, "Oh? I didn't know Tsuna took students. She must be a very special teacher."
Shizune laughed nervously, "You have no idea."
Tsunade sobered up enough to speak, "Granduncle? What're you doin' in a place like this?"
"Well, I wanted to know what it is you do, seeing how most of my time is with Kakashi."
"Oh how thoughtful of you, but couldn't have picked a better-" Tsunade burped mid-sentence, "-Time. As I and Shizune were going to hit the blackjack table."
"Ooh, blackjack. It sounds fun, so do you have to beat Jack?"
Tsunade laughed, "Come on, I'll show you how a pro does it." She grabbed Hashirama's arm and dragged him to the blackjack table, the dealer asked if Hashirama and Shizune would play but they declined. Hashirama looked at some of the playing cards and noticed the king was a cartoonized version of himself, the queen resembled Mito Uzumaki, and the jack resembled Madara.
Hashirama stared at it, it was almost taunting him for the things he couldn't stop. It bothered him seeing the woman he married and the woman he loved as fictitious playing cards, he stepped away for a moment to collect himself before he watched Tsunade rake up loss after loss after loss. It made him chuckle weakly, "So this was how Madara felt watching me gamble away my weekly pay?"
Tsunade stormed away after raking up zero winnings, and Shizune and Hashirama followed. Shizune couldn't help but ask the first Hokage, "Is it true that you're not Lady Tsunade's grandfather?"
"No, I am not. That's my brother's doing."
"Why don't you seem mad?"
"Mad about what? My brother loving the wife I didn't?"
"If you didn't love Lady Mito, then who did you love?"
Hashirama knew the answer but it was better not to say, "I can't say, maybe my heart doesn't belong to anyone."
Shizune looked saddened, "You must've been lonely in life, and now even more so."
Hashirama nodded, "I've always been lonely in a sense. I prefer others to be happy over myself, for better...or for worse." He stared off into the distance.
When Jiraiya and Naruto returned, Naruto had grown quite a bit. Hiruzen almost mistook him for Minato. When Naruto saw Sasuke he ran to hug her, she had her hair in a ponytail and she wore a blue loose-fitting shirt and she still kept her white shorts.
Sasuke was excited to see Naruto too but she had started dating a couple of months prior, she was dating Neji as she found him cute. Itachi wasn't too pleased with the news, he even threatened Neji to not break her heart.
Sakura had grown taller than Sasuke, Sasuke always hated when people made fun of her height.
Itachi began dating and only Kakashi knew, they had mutual respect's privacy.
After two days of Naruto being back, the sand village sent a Raven asking for help. The Kazekage was on a diplomatic mission to the hidden mist village, and the Kazekage's son Gaara had been kidnapped by the Akatsuki.
Naruto had befriended Gaara during the attack on the leaf and gave Gaara a new perspective, he wanted to go save him. Hiruzen relented and sent team Kakashi, Naruto was excited to be on a mission like old times.
Itachi wanted to go too but had faith that Sasuke would return safely, he watched as they left the village gate. Kakashi wondered if they were ready for battling Akatsuki members, but as long as he was there none of them would get hurt.
Once they arrived at the village hidden in the sand, they were rushed to the hospital. Kankuro was the boy's name, he was Gaara's brother and he tried to stop the Akatsuki members from taking Gaara, he was poisoned by Sasori of the red sand.
No one had a cure to the poison, but luckily Sakura was a student of Tsunade. She had been able to create a cure within an hour, she made extra vials of the cure since they were going to fight this poison user. An older woman was there and was about to attack Kakashi until she was stopped, she thought that he was the white fang of the leaf. The lady's name was lady Chiyo, she wanted to help team Kakashi takedown Sasori once and for all.
They headed out to where they thought the Akatsuki members would be, whilst they were in Sunagakure Hiruzen sent team Guy to assist in the mission. However, there was an Akatsuki member in team Kakashi's way to the cave. It was a man with slicked-back white hair, he also had a scythe.
The man was named Hidan and he was very foul-mouthed, he tried lunging at Kakashi but he jumped out of the way. Naruto being the knucklehead charged towards Hidan and was cut on his hand, Hidan created a weird circle formation at his feet and licked Naruto's blood.
Hidan's skin tone changed to look akin to that of a skeleton, Hidan pulled out a metal rod and stabbed his left leg, everyone was confused until Naruto fell to his knee gripping his left leg. Kakashi understood how Hidan's Jutsu worked by merely seeing it once, Kakashi quickly used his mangekyou to utilize Kamui.
Kakashi aimed Kamui at Hidan's head, killing the man. However, a different body appeared after Hidan's supposed death. Team Guy experienced the same thing but with an Akatsuki member named Kakuzu.
Once both teams arrived at the cave Gaara was supposedly in, they figured out there was a barrier on the cave. It required five sealing tags to be removed at the same time, team Guy went to locate the sealing tags and team Kakashi waited until Guy gave the signal.
Once Guy gave the signal Kakashi removed the seal on the cave and the entrance opened, and everyone was able to see the life drain from Gaara's body. There were two Akatsuki members in the cave a red-haired man and a black-haired woman.
The woman was looking away from everyone and Kakashi was wondering if this was the real Madara or if it was the impersonator, he was not ready to fight the real one. The woman finally turned around and revealed her one Sharingan, once Kakashi laid eyes on the Sharingan it changed to the mangekyou.
Kakashi stood still as he saw her face, it was unmistakable as the woman who stood before him was Obito Uchiha.
"It's been a while, Bakakashi." Kakashi hearing the name knew that there was no questioning it.
"You know her Sensei?" Sakura asked him, but he was unable to move or say anything as all his focus was on Obito. Never had he been frozen by a mere glance, this was the most fearless man in the hidden leaf since he had been on the most A-rank and S-rank missions. He had the title of copy ninja Kakashi and the owner of a thousand jutsus, but the sight of his childhood crush made him freeze.
Sasuke noticed that the woman had the same mangekyou Sharingan and called Kakashi, Bakakashi. "Was this the same person who gave Kakashi his Sharingan," she thought.
Naruto still enraged charged at Obito but was stopped by the red-haired man, Sasori.
Everyone but Kakashi was now focused on Sasori, Obito didn't find joy in seeing Kakashi's will be extinguished. She became cold and uncaring but she still had her kindness, no matter how deep inside it was hidden.
"Obito," Kakashi weakly murmured. He couldn't get any other word out, his voice so quiet it was almost considered a whisper.
"What happened, I thought you would carry on my determination, but instead you squandered it." Obito mocked him.
"What happened to you?" Kakashi said his voice almost in fear.
"Someone told me of how to not trust men and they were right, 'cause you killed Rin the first chance you got."
"No, I tried to save her!" Kakashi almost yelled.
Obito looked at Kakashi with disgust, "Liar! You're nothing but trash." Obito said as Sasori began fighting Kakashi's team and Chiyo. Obito started to attack Kakashi who wasn't fighting back, Obito thought about killing him and taking her Sharingan back but she couldn't bring herself to do it.
Sasori's fight was pretty even until one of his iron sand blocks hit Sakura, Sasori poisoned all of his iron sand. Luckily Sakura still had three vials of the antidote and used one on herself.
Lady Chiyo was Sasori's grandmother, she used her puppets to battle with Sasori's third Kazekage puppet. Naruto tried rushing in with a Rasengan but was hit with iron sand, he was incapacitated until Sakura gave him the second antidote.
Naruto knowing he would be a burden stayed out of the fight as Sasori would take advantage of his brashness, Sasuke was studying him with her Sharingan to see if he would make a mistake. Once he made a single mistake she hit the Third Kazekage puppet with a Chidori, Sakura hit Sasori while he was distracted by Sasuke, knocking him into multiple pieces. Cause he himself was a puppet.
Sakura felt victorious at the defeat of the Akatsuki member, Sasori had reformed himself and pulled out a blade. He lunged towards Sakura when Sasuke pushed her out of the way, Sasori had stabbed Sasuke in the heart.
Obito noticed this and had a flashback to when Kakashi killed Rin.
"You see that Kakashi? That's where protecting people gets you!" Obito said forcing the jounin to see his student skewered through the heart just like he had done to Rin, Kakashi felt like he was going to blackout when Naruto went berserk and transformed into the four tails cloak.
Sasori wasn't prepared for an increase in speed and strength to the knuckleheaded boy, Naruto disintegrated Sasori with a tailed beast bomb but he was hit by Sasori's poisoned blade.
Obito seeing she had no more reason to stay began to Kamui away, but before she left she told Kakashi one last thing, "It seems I should be going, good luck explaining this to Itachi, Bakakashi."
Something broke in Kakashi seeing his favorite student killed, and the girl he loved was alive and twisted made him think of everyone he lost and how he still lived, if it weren't for team Guy arriving he would have lied on the ground and hoped he had been killed.
The Green Beast of the leaf had to use the seventh gate to incapacitate Naruto, once the seal on Naruto was tightened they all looked at Sasuke's body. Naruto and Sakura broke down crying, lady Chiyo wished she could help the girl but knew she couldn't restore a heart. But she could make something good come from her being here, she walked over to Gaara's body and slowly gave her life force for his.
Might Guy was the first to notice lady Chiyo do so, Neji used his Byakugan to see that she was giving Gaara her chakra. Everyone gathered around lady Chiyo to see the red-haired boy sit back up, but lady Chiyo fell over due to the forbidden jutsu taking her life.
They gave lady Chiyo a proper burial and returned Gaara to the sand village, Kakashi carried the young Uchiha girl's body back to the leaf village. Itachi waited at the village gate to greet the returning teams, once he saw Kakashi carrying his little sister he knew something was wrong.
"Sasuke!" Itachi yelled as he ran to the man holding his sister's body, Itachi saw the guilty look that Kakashi had, "What happened? What happened to Sasuke?!"
The silver-haired man looked down regretfully, "It was the puppet user, Sasori. He stabbed her in the heart and I couldn't..." Kakashi was shaken, Itachi was filled with grief and didn't want to do anything rash, he wanted to hear what Guy knew about what made the fearless former Anbu captain freeze.
"She deserves a proper funeral, please give her to me," Itachi asked Kakashi, he handed Itachi the young girl and slowly arrived at the Hokage estate.
Naruto looked to Itachi, "Who's Obito?" He asked.
Both Guy and Itachi knew the name and feared for Kakashi's mental state,
"Was she with Sasori?" Itachi asked.
"Yeah, Kakashi sensei said the name, and the woman was not happy about it. And when she attacked him, he did nothing to defend himself." Naruto said puzzled.
Itachi had to inform the third Hokage immediately, but he had to care for Sasuke first Sasuke and then he would I for.
"Guy can you tell Lord third about this event, I'm going to be too busy with Sasuke in the meantime."
"You can count on me!" The eccentric man said.
Kakashi knocked on Hiruzen's office and after a minute he was told to enter, "Here's the report for the rescue mission, I'll be retiring to my apartment for the day if you don't need anything else." Kakashi said nonchalantly as he placed the paper on his desk.
"I'm afraid I can't let you do that," Hiruzen said whilst not even looking at the report paper.
"And why not?" Kakashi said with boredom in his voice.
"Have a seat, we need to talk."
Kakashi didn't like where this was going.
"Guy delivered his report right before you, and I'd like you to explain to me what happened before I read yours," Hiruzen said, seriousness ever in his voice. Guy must've beaten him while he was filling out his report, always putting one hundred percent in what he does.
"There's not much to tell, we rescued Gaara and killed an Akatsuki member. That's all." Kakashi left out the most important details.
Hiruzen sighed, "What about Sasuke, did she not make it into your report?"
Kakashi hung his head in guilt, "I failed her as a master and froze."
"No you didn't, she did what you taught her. Defending her friends, that's all we can ask of our students, no matter how hard it may be." Hiruzen said getting up from his chair, he grabbed his cane and walked to the door.
"If you're still full of guilt I suggest you go see the man with the most regrets ever, he's at his usual spot," Hiruzen said motioning Kakashi out the door, he understood what he was getting at. Kakashi left the Hokage tower to the only place where Hashirama stays at night, the valley of the end.
Kakashi walked through the forest to come across the two great statues of Hashirama Senju and Madara Uchiha, the real Hashirama was next to the statue of Madara. He was creating roses, it was probably a metaphor for her beauty and her lethality.
"So what brings a stranger out here, did you come to ask for some wisdom, cause if so you might as well learn the reanimation and reanimate Tobirama," Hashirama said not looking away from the flowers.
"Lord third told me I should come see you, I've had a rough couple of days," Kakashi said apprehensively.
Hashirama turned around, his face was still cracked and his eyes still blackened. "Grand nephew? I thought you were out on a mission."
"I was, but I completed it," Kakashi said walking over to Hashirama.
Hashirama could tell Kakashi was troubled, Hashirama sighed "What happened?"
Kakashi sat down on the grass, "One of my students was killed."
Hashirama sat down next to him, "I see, was it Naruto?" Hashirama asked thinking the worst.
"No, it was Sasuke," Kakashi replied.
Hashirama looked down regretfully, "That's one more Uchiha on my conscience."
"No, this one is on me, if I hadn't frozen then maybe..."
Hashirama interjected, "Don't be so hard on yourself, that's my job." Hashirama chuckled trying to cheer Kakashi up.
"Did you know that the masked woman was Obito?" Kakashi asked.
Hashirama was silent for a moment before he answered, "Yes."
Kakashi should have been upset but it made sense for Hashirama not to tell him about Obito.
"You're not mad?" Hashirama asked.
"No, it was for the best. But I went in unprepared and I froze up, and because of that I was unable to save her." Kakashi said as looked at the valley.
"Kakashi, do you remember how I died?" Hashirama said trying to get the silver-haired man's attention.
"You were killed by spies, they snuck into the village and poisoned you." He said absentmindedly.
"What I'm about to tell you no one else alive knows, I wasn't killed by spies, I committed seppuku. I was a coward who took the easy way out." Hashirama said.
Kakashi looked at him wide-eyed, "You committed seppuku? Why?" Kakashi was taken aback by the brunette's words, seppuku was a touchy subject for Kakashi as his father had done it.
"Because I killed Madara, she was apart of the reason I wanted to create the village in the first place. But she succumbed to her darkness and I did nothing to help her, when I put my sword into her back a part of me died with her." Hashirama said as a tear fell from his left eye.
"Why are you telling me this?" Kakashi asked.
"So you won't make the same mistake I did, if you love this Obito then try to guide her through the darkness," Hashirama said with a somber tone.
"So it's true, you did love Madara," Kakashi said remembering that Tobirama always hated the woman.
"I... I still do. And it's because I didn't muster the courage to tell her, all this is happening."
"There's still time, maybe you can finally tell her," Kakashi said.
"You think she would listen to me after I stabbed her? I doubt that she would change her mind and not do this infinite Tsukuyomi thing, I know I wouldn't."
Kakashi stood up and said, "There's going to be a funeral for Sasuke, you should be there."
Hashirama didn't say anything but nodded, he just stared off into the distance.
Kakashi returned to the village with Hashirama, almost everyone made their way to the cemetery. Itachi began giving a speech about Sasuke, then Kakashi, then Naruto, Neji, Anko, Sakura, Guy, and Hiruzen.
Hashirama felt out of place among all the living, he was reminiscing about Madara's funeral.
He'd never been so sad in his life that day, barely anyone was there since no one cared about Madara. It made Hashirama angry since she was an integral part of the village and the woman he loved so desperately.
Hashirama was snapped out of his thoughts when Kakashi put his hand on his shoulder, "It's not the first time you've had to be here, isn't it."
"And it won't be the last," Hashirama countered.
Just then Itachi came by and asked to speak with Hashirama alone, Kakashi respected his wish and walked away.
"Lord first, I wanted to talk to you about something." The Uchiha said.
"Please don't let this be about Madara."
Itachi began, "I'm afraid it is."
Hashirama sighed, "Then out with it."
"Do you think she'll attack the leaf village?"
"I don't know, Madara is a skilled tactician and with me here I don't see her attacking."
"But what about Naruto, she is after the tailed beasts."
"I'm going, to be honest, you're the one who will have to fight her."
"Me?" Itachi asked in surprise.
"The only way she can be defeated is by Izanami."
Itachi looked down, "That's quite a price, are you sure you don't want to fight her?"
"I can't, not again. I don't have the will to fight her again." Hashirama said.
"I see, then when the time comes I'll fight her." Itachi looked somber.
"Have you taken her eyes yet?" Hashirama asked.
"I have, they're the only thing I have left of her."
Hashirama felt guilty, this girl meant everything to Itachi and if he falls into his darkness then what happened to Madara will repeat with him.
Just then Shikamaru and Choji came running with a badly injured Asuma, he was charred and losing a lot of blood. Hashirama tried healing Asuma but he was too far gone, all of Asuma's students and Kurenai gathered around him as he was dying.
They buried two Shinobi of Konoha that day, after Asuma was buried Ino-Shika-Cho wanted revenge on the man who killed Asuma. They asked almost every jounin to help but they were told to not attempt it as attacking Akatsuki members was dangerous.
They were going to leave the village to set out on their suicide mission when Hashirama stopped them, he understood why they wanted to go and asked if he could go with them.
The three teenagers agreed and set out with the first Hokage to kill the Akatsuki members.
They found Hidan and Kakuzu waiting in a ruined forest, Hidan was the one they wanted to kill as he was the one who killed Asuma. Hashirama announced his presence to them and Kakuzu was immediately terrified, Hashirama hadn't realized that he was an assassin who tried killing him long ago.
Kakuzu made his fear known by surrendering, everyone was confused until he spoke, "First Hokage Hashirama, you might not remember me but I attempted to kill you for my village's honor. You spared me mercy then, could you spare me now."
Hashirama then remembered how he had completely humiliated him, "Oh yeah, you were from a small village that wanted the Senju gone."
Hidan had no clue what was happening but in his confusion, Shikamaru used shadow possession jutsu to lead him away from Kakuzu.
Hashirama debated on sparing the hidden waterfall Shinobi but he did kind of ruin his life by humiliating him, "I'll spare you but you can't ever come near the hidden leaf village again." Hashirama said with authority.
"I swear it, even if I'm tasked with retrieving the nine tails I won't come back," Kakuzu said before he left the forest.
Shikamaru had returned from burying Hidan, it was fitting for Shikamaru to bury him in the Nara forest. Once they returned to the village from their encounter with the Akatsuki, Hashirama was scolded by Hiruzen.
"Don't you understand how dangerous it is for chunin to battle the Akatsuki?! We just lost one of our best from the last encounter, did the thought not cross your mind?!" Hiruzen rambled on for a while not letting Hashirama speak.
"Nothing bad happened, so what's all the fuss about?" Hashirama asked.
"The 'fuss' is you let them go knowing that one of them could have died," Hiruzen said getting more and more agitated.
"But they didn't, I was there to prevent that from happening."
Hiruzen finally gave in to his anger, "Why did it have to be you who got revived, why couldn't it have been master Tobirama. He would have helped me govern the village and give me advice when I needed it."
Hashirama was visibly upset at the comment and left without saying a word, he went to the valley of the end to be alone with his thoughts. He had to admit that Hiruzen was right, he wasn't good at politics and he only really cared about the safety of the village, not the inhabitants. If he could jump off the cliff and die he would have.
"Madara, where are you now?" Hashirama closed his eyes trying to focus on sensing her across the world, he wasn't a good sensor but he knew Madara's chakra more than he knew his brother's face, he spent three hours trying to locate her until he felt her presence... and his own?
Hashirama stopped for a second confused, he began thinking as to why he could sense himself. The only explanation is that she had infused some of his DNA onto herself, which wasn't good as she could now use mokotun abilities. Knowing Madara it wasn't out of sentimental value but rather it was a means to an end.
He couldn't do anything but sense her using her newfound abilities, in some world, it could have been stalking but not here. He oddly felt at peace with her having his abilities.
Kakashi began training Naruto about chakra natures, his was wind. Kakashi had his friend Tenzo help him train Naruto, Tenzo was an ex-root and had his name hidden from anyone but Kakashi and the third Hokage. Naruto trained so hard that he was able to mix wind style chakra nature with the Rasengan, creating the wind style: Rasen shuriken.
A two months after Hashirama helped Ino-Shika-Cho kill Hidan, Hiruzen was called to a five kage summit. It was unusual for a five kage summit to be called while no one was at war, but Hiruzen couldn't ignore it as it was the law. Hiruzen left with two bodyguards, Itachi and Guy to the land of iron.
A day before Hiruzen left on his diplomatic mission Hashirama felt a great disturbance with Madara's chakra, she was regaining her past strength. Which to Hashirama was the worst thing that could have happened, the Uzumaki boy must've revived her as it had been three years since their conversation.
While Hiruzen was away Nagato and Konan came back to the village, they came to see Hashirama. Kakashi was wary of them because of his bad experience with the Akatsuki, but knowing who they wanted to see obliged.
Hashirama sensed the three approaching him, he was not surprised in seeing the Uzumaki. However, he was surprised to see he was missing an eye and his hair was slowly turning white.
"Young Uzumaki, what happened to your hair?" Hashirama said in a foreboding tone.
"I stalled her as long as I could, now it's time you do your part," Nagato said.
Kakashi was very out of the loop, "Stall who? And you've met him before Lord first?!" Kakashi asked.
"That's not important right now Tobi... er Kakashi." Hashirama mistook Kakashi for Tobirama. Hashirama turned his attention back to Nagato, "What do you mean my part?"
The Uzumaki man did the hand signs for ram and snake. "Gedo art of Rinne Rebirth," Nagato said as Hashirama's body began to change.
Hashirama's eyes were restored with life, his cracks gone, he was once again alive. Hashirama couldn't believe he was returned to life and neither could Kakashi.
"I leave my dream of peace to you, Hashirama Senju," Nagato said as his life force was drained from his body. Konan wrapped Nagato's body in paper, "I will return to the hidden rain village and give Nagato a proper burial, but you should know that Nagato's Rinnegan was Madara's."
Konan left with Nagato's body.
Hashirama thought for a moment until he understood what it meant, "So she truly has been planning for this."
"Uncle?" Kakashi asked, uneasy.
"Madara must've stolen some of my DNA during our fight in this very valley, and she implanted it onto herself unlocking her Rinnegan."
"Does that mean she has access to your mokotun too?"
"I'm afraid so, once Saru returns we shall inform him."
Kakashi nodded as he headed back to the village, "Aren't you coming?"
Hashirama was confused as Kakashi turned back around, "Don't you want to celebrate being alive but again?" Kakashi asked.
Hashirama looked to his flowers and then to Kakashi, "Maybe I should, not everyone gets a second chance." Hashirama said with a smile.
Kakashi lead Hashirama through the village and to an Izakaya, Hashirama grimaced as it was the same one he'd gone to with Madara. Kakashi watched as Hashirama's face didn't show happiness, but sorrow.
"You okay, uncle?" Kakashi asked.
Hashirama snapped himself out of his stupor, "I've never felt better." Hashirama said as he walked past Kakashi and into the Izakaya.
Hashirama had to admit it but he missed eating and drinking, Kakashi watched his eagerness to get his first drink. Hashirama ordered the strongest alcoholic beverage he could, "Are you sure that's a good idea, uncle?" Kakashi asked with concern.
"It'll be fine, it's not like alcohol has changed since my time," Hashirama replied.
As soon as he drank a bottle of shōchū he blacked out, Kakashi sighed before even having a drink. Kakashi had to drag Hashirama to his apartment and rent himself a hotel room, Kakashi didn't mind his grand-uncle sleeping in his apartment.
Meanwhile, at the five kage summit, the fourth Raikage Ayy had called the summit to discuss the threat of Madara Uchiha. She had resurrected herself with a jutsu none of them knew of and sealed the eight tails by herself.
Although everyone wanted to deal with her no one could stand up to her for more than thirty seconds, Hiruzen knew of one man to stop her. The fifth Mizukage argued that only in unison could Madara be defeated, the Third Tsuchikage, Onoki agreed with him.
The fourth Kazekage, Rasa was skeptical about it but agreed that the threat of Madara was impossible to ignore since his son had almost died to the Akatsuki.
The fourth Raikage was outraged by the thought of joining forces with the other villages, but before he could answer an Akatsuki member appeared into the room with a swirling jutsu.
Everyone got up to defend themselves from her, "It seems I was correct, the five kage would gather for a summit in threat of Madara Uchiha." The woman said.
Hiruzen, Guy, and Itachi knew who it had to be but everyone in the room was oblivious to her true identity.
The Raikage tried to hit her with his lightning-style lariat, but he passed right through her. Everyone was confused about her arrival and jutsu, The Mizukage asked "And who are you, Akatsuki scum?"
"I am no one, but the Akatsuki has been disbanded and I was left with a choice. Join Madara and expect her to betray me, or join forces with Orochimaru. So today I declare the fourth great ninja war." Obito stated.
Itachi was itching to fight her but knew that she could warp away in an instant. Guy was petrified at the sight of his former friend, the once hopeful Shinobi had now become full of despair.
"I will wait for you to deal with Madara, cause sooner or later she'll come to capture your precious nine tails jinchuuriki or I will. After all, the leader of the Akatsuki gave his life to revive your first Hokage." Obito gloated.
Hiruzen couldn't believe that an enemy would give their life to save their enemy, Hiruzen started thinking about how and why Orochimaru was involved with the two Uchiha.
"Later," Obito said as she wiped her arm around her body and disappeared.
Everyone was very concerned with the information just given to them, "It seems that our enemies are fighting amongst themselves, we should take this time to assemble our armies." The Mizukage said.
"And how can I trust that your mist Shinobi won't attack my cloud Shinobi?" The Raikage asked.
"Because I believe the time for bickering among villages is over, years of fighting taught me that." The Mizukage replied.
"The Mizukage is right, this threat is bigger than all of us. We must band together if we are to defeat Madara or the one who just declared war on us." The Kazekage said.
The Raikage looked around the room before saying, "Very well, the hidden cloud will join this Shinobi alliance."
Thus the allied Shinobi alliance was born, no more would there be petty conflicts between villages. Each kage returned to their village and got every able-bodied ninja to gather at the allied Shinobi alliance forward operating base. Each was assigned to their respective skill set.
Hiruzen thought long and hard about going through with his plan but knew that he had no role left to play as he was old and injured, he taught Itachi the hand signs for Edo Tensei.
"Are you sure you want to go through with this, Lord Third?" Itachi asked.
"I am, he'll provide more help than I ever could."
Itachi began doing the signs for the Edo Tensei, Hiruzen was going to be the sacrifice for the jutsu.
Itachi smeared the remains of his selected target onto a special scroll, he placed it down in front of Hiruzen and it formed a special seal around him. Once the seal around him was complete dust and ash began to consume him entirely.
When it was finished Itachi was face to face with his selected reanimation, "I'm sure you're confused but right now there's not much time to explain, so to keep it short I used the reanimation jutsu so you could help us in the war."
The reanimated man narrowed his eyes, "So my jutsu has been used huh, you know it's a forbidden jutsu?"
"I understand that, but Lord third insisted that you be brought back."
"And where is Saru?" The reanimation asked.
"Unfortunately he volunteered to be your sacrifice," Itachi replied.
The reanimation looked down with regret, "I'll make sure his sacrifice wasn't in vain, so tell me who are we fighting in this war?"
Itachi began walking as he didn't want to give him the bad news, the reanimation followed after him.
Itachi lead the man to the FOB, where he was met by many glares including the four Kage.
"You're the Hokage's guard, right? Do you know where he is?" The Tsuchikage asked.
The reanimation felt a familiar chakra around him but he couldn't quite place it as his sensor capabilities waned in his older years.
"I regret to inform you all but he wished to have a meaningful death, he became the sacrifice for the reanimation jutsu."
All eyes were on the reanimated Shinobi as he was looking around for the familiar chakra he felt, the more he searched the closer it got.
"Tobirama?" The albino was snapped out of his search as he turned to see the owner of the chakra, the owner was none other than his brother.
Tobirama was in shock as Hashirama wasn't just a reanimation but fully alive, "Aniki? How are you..."
"It's a long story, but it's good to see you," Hashirama said as he hugged him.
"If you can't tell me that can you at least tell me who started the war?" Tobirama was a little annoyed but happy to see his brother.
"Well ya see... it was kinda... Madara's fault..." Hashirama said hoping Tobirama wouldn't get mad.
"What!? You mean she's been resurrected too!?" Unfortunately, he was very much angry as the woman he oh so hated started a war after she'd been revived, he was wishing he was still dead and didn't have to deal with this.
Itachi interjected, "lord second, lord first and Madara were revived by the same person. But now reports say she has the Rinnegan and Lord first's wood style, but she isn't the main enemy right now because there are two others. Orochimaru has joined an enemy named Obito Uchiha, they plan to capture the nine tails and or have Madara killed."
"What of Kakashi is he safe, is he alright?" Tobirama asked.
"Your grandson is the leader of the fifth company, he's on the battlefield waiting for the enemy," Itachi replied.
"Why did you say, grandson?" Tobirama said as he eyed Hashirama.
"Because me, Lord third, and your grandson know that Lord First is a virgin, so that meant that you and Mito Uzumaki had intercourse," Itachi said with a straight face.
Hashirama was a little embarrassed until Tobirama smacked him on the head, "How could you be so reckless? I was trying to preserve your legacy." Tobirama said a little agitated.
"I don't care about my legacy, everyone should know how their village was founded and respect those who came before them even if they fell to a dark place." Hashirama defended.
"You're still upset about Madara, aren't you."
"Well... No. I was never upset, I just didn't have a brother that respected my decisions." Hashirama accused.
"I wasn't just your brother, I was your advisor and that meant more to me than some silly feelings."
Hashirama was growing angry as the conversation dragged on, "But your advice caused this war to happen because you didn't trust her and you killed her brother."
Tobirama was always angry when it came to that she-devil as he called her, "If this is what my actions have caused then I wouldn't have changed a single thing." He said as he walked away from the brunette to the other Kage, Hashirama was deeply hurt by his brother's words.
One of the sensors panicked as they felt an incredible amount of chakra in one location, it was an abundant amount of reanimated Shinobi summoned by Orochimaru. Hashirama hurried to the location as the reanimated legion was very close to the fifth company
The reanimated legion consisted of The previous seven ninja swordsmen of the mist, Haku Yuki, Sakumo Hatake, Deidara, and Sasori.
At the same time, Naruto was on a turtle island training his control over the nine tails, Yamato and Guy were guarding him against any threats.
Unfortunately, they were not prepared for a woman with an intangible jutsu, Obito quickly kidnapped Yamato and left.
Before Hashirama could make it to the fifth company he was ambushed by a familiar friend, Madara with two Rinnegan.
"So he gave his pathetic life to resurrect you, I am a little surprised but you will not be able to beat me now Hashirama!" The ravenette said.
Hashirama had been smashed into a tree, he brushed himself off and looked at the imposing Uchiha monarch with a smile. He was very much excited to fight but he was also very nervous, "Madara can't we just talk?"
Madara looked at him with disgust, "The time for talk is over! I am itching to fight you Hashirama, let us have one final dance."
